3FL Notes: S7: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

The curse wins again.

The #1 seeded, top scoring, record-tying Lightning have gone the way of our last six top seeds. Coach Thad's team scored their lowest total of the year in a loss to the SuperBowl-bound Renegades. Meanwhile, Misfits, Inc. punched their ticket to the big game by outscoring everyone else in the entire league.

Week 14 set the record for most league points in a playoff week. Last week tied the record for least league points in a playoff week. You just never know what is going to happen in the 3FL...

Week 15 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 81 points

Player MVPs:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defense - 21 points
New England Patriots Defense - 20 points
Kurt Warner (QB/Ari) - 18 points

Yahoo! Projections: 4/8 - 50%

Week 16 Information

Thursday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ St. Louis Rams
Saturday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Carolina Panthers
Sunday Night: Washington Redskins @ Minnesota Vikings
Monday Night: Denver Broncos @ San Diego Chargers

It's here! SuperBowl week in the 3FL...

For 7th Place:
#5 Baltimorons vs. #7 Dumbbums
Coach Drew did predict a rematch of last year's SuperBowl - but I'll bet he didn't think the loser of it would end up in eighth place. The Baltimorons put themselves on the wrong end of the records last week, scoring the second fewest points ever in a 3FL playoff week. This should be a great game between the two dim-witted teams, though, with Romo-to-Owens highlighting a battle that will last from Thursday night all the way through Monday night.

For 5th Place:
#3 Marauders vs. #8 ray ray haw
Both of these teams had decisive wins last week after sub-par quarterfinals games. Randy Moss broke their regular season matchup wide open and he may do the same thing again. But the final score may rest upon the sit/start decisions of Coach haw and his corps of six WRs. Or the legs of Adrian Peterson on Sunday night.

For 3rd Place:
#1 Lightning vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
Is it ironic that the (usually) high-flying Lightning can blame much of their semifinal loss on the weather? The curse sent a reminder through the snow showers and now Coach Thad has to settle for playing Coach GooMoo for third place. As for this game, it pits the NFL's two best QBs against each other in what should turn out to be a high scoring affair. Neither team has ever finished higher than fourth place in the 3FL, so one of them will earn a bronze virtual statue on their Yahoo! fantasy sports profile. Does anyone have the weekend forecast?

3FL SuperBowl VII:
#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #4 Renegades
Who would have guessed these two would meet for the championship and the trophy? Nobody. During the entire 2007 playoffs the Renegades received a total of zero pick'em votes from our league managers. Zero. But that didn't stop them from making it to the SuperBowl. The newlyweds of FitzCorp come storming into this game with some momentum and a few favorable matchups. Will they chose the right starters? Or will Coach Val surprise everyone again? Both teams have players in the MNF game on Christmas Eve - but Santa can only bring the trophy to one of them. We may have to wait until we hear reindeer up on the rooftop to see who it is...

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

Thanks to all for another fun season!

Good luck this week!

3FL Notes: S7: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

The trophy is headed somewhere completely new this year! There are no former 3FL champions among our final four, so a first-time winner will take home the honor and the hardware for the 2007 season. But who will it be?

Remember that there are games on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday this week. Make sure you have your starting lineups set for players in those games before they start.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 109 points

Player MVPs:

Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 31 points
Jay Cutler (QB/Den) - 29 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 28 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

League Voting: 1/4 - 25%
Yahoo! Projections: 3/4 - 75%

Go vote! The polls close at 8:10pm on Thursday.

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: Denver Broncos @ Houston Texans
Saturday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday Night: Washington Redskins @ New York Giants
Monday Night: Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl VII, Losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 Lightning vs. #4 Renegades
The Lightning continue their march toward history after a convincing quarterfinal win in which they scored the second highest playoff weekly total in league history. Couple that with a tie for the most points ever scored in the regular season and this team seems unstoppable. But, as we've seen, anything can happen in the 3FL. Jay Cutler's performance on Thursday night might be a good indication of if it will.

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
Decisions, decisions. FitzCorp has a bunch of them to make. The Vipers on the other hand have little to think about - their entire bench is full of players that most likely will not play. But they won last week even after sitting a MNF WR for strategy's sake. I doubt that will happen again, as both of these teams will be focused on the prime-time game to see who ends up in the SuperBowl.

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, Losers play for 7th)

#3 Marauders vs. #7 Dumbbums
This could be the best game of the week and it's in the the consolation bracket. Will Vince Young score negative points again? Whose high-flying WRs will be the difference? Can the Dayne train even leave the station on Thursday night? Will Adrian Peterson attempt to mount a Marauders comeback or just seal the victory on MNF? What a matchup! Someone is going to go storming into the 5th place game...

#5 Baltimorons vs. #8 ray ray haw
OK, so this game just might be as good as the Marauders/Dumbbums battle. Led by their respective QBs, each of these two-time champions has been streaky throughout the year. In fact, Coach haw comes into this week having lost his last five in a row. Only one point separated them in week six, and that just might be the case again.

Good luck this week. The trophy awaits a new home!

3FL Notes: S7: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

The playoffs are here! Congratulations to the Vipers, Dumbbums and haw for clinching the final three playoff spots.

There are two things to remember for this week.

First, everyone who qualified for the playoffs will play in each of the next three weeks. Make sure you have a lineup set from now through the end of the postseason.

Second, and more importantly, ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 12:55pm THIS SUNDAY, December 9th. You will not be able to add/drop after this time. Make sure your team is ready for the playoffs before then.

And don't forget that all remaining weeks start with a Thursday Night NFL game.

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 96 points

Player MVPs:

Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 28 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 27 points
Carolina Panthers Defense - 26 points

Regular Season Final Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 47/78 - 60.26%
League Voting: 47/78 - 60.26%
Yahoo! Projections: 46/78 - 58.97%

The Dumbbums were 6/6 in week 13 voting.
Vote early! Voting is up and running for the playoffs and the polls close at 8:10pm on Thursday evening.

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Chicago Bears @ Washington Redskins
Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Baltimore Ravens
Monday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Lightning vs. #8 ray ray haw
Is this the year for the curse of #1 to be broken? The top seed in the 3FL playoffs has lost in the first round four out of six times and has never won a championship. But this #1 seed has the 2007 version of Tom Brady. Of course, he's going against the Steelers Defense this week, so either victory will be bittersweet. The haw lost their last four games in a row but somehow managed to cling to the eighth seed. It won't be easy to pull an upset, but we all know that anything can happen in the 3FL.

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #7 Dumbbums
Donovan McNabb looks like he'll be back as captain of the Corp this week, but will he be all the way back? The 'Bums have a RB playing aginst their own Defense, which will cannabalize some points, but the result of this matchup will hinge on the performances of LT and TO. One thing is for sure - we'll know the winner at around 7:30pm on Sunday.

#3 Marauders vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
In a rematch of last week's game, these two will battle it out for a third time this year. The Vipers won both previous contests and look to continue that trend with a marathon approach; they have at least one player in a game in each time slot. The Marauders spent a good part of the season at the top of the league but finished as the third seed. Maybe that was on purpose...

#4 Renegades vs. #5 Baltimorons
The Baltimorons have an opportunity this year to repeat as champions and keep the trophy right where it is. But don't count out the Renegades. I know they finished the regular season 10th out of 12 in scoring, but there's a reason they went 8-5 to earn the fourth seed. Of course, an injured QB and no backup RB may make a deep playoff run difficult.

Good luck this week. Three wins in a row wins it all!
