Our SuperBowl matchup is set - it's Marauders vs. Dumbbums to claim the trophy and get to play for free next season. Both have been here before. Coach Hoss won the championship in 2003, while Coach Coaldog lost by just two points in 2006.

Who will be receiving an early Christmas present? We'll find out soon enough.

Week 16 Information

Thursday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Saturday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Dallas Cowboys
Sunday Night: Carolina Panthers @ New York Giants
Monday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears

Here we go...SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#3 Spiked Vipers vs. #4 Misfits, Inc.
These two had pretty high hopes for the postseason, but now they are fighting to not end up in last place. That's why they play the games, I guess. Can Kurt Warner win one more game for Coach GooMoo? Or will McNabb lead FitzCorp (and the Eagles) to the promised land? Well, to 7th place anyway...

For 5th Place:
#1 Predacons vs. #7 Lightning
The Preds won both meetings between these two during the regular season, but things could be different this time around. The electrical discharges have some favorable matchups this week. Plus, Coach Sinkerbeam's top RB is playing against his own defense. Thursday night will set the tone in this battle to be the champion of the consolation bracket.

For 3rd Place:
#2 Baltimorons vs. #5 Yuengling Brewers
After starting what appeared to be a strong run to a third title game, the Baltimorons faltered last week, scoring their lowest point total of the season. And it didn't help that both teams in this matchup started RBs that were not playing in their week 15 games. Coaching oversights aside, one of these two will end up with a new digital trophy in their profile. But it will be colored bronze.

3FL SuperBowl VIII
#6 Marauders vs. #8 Dumbbums
Well, here it is! An unlikely matchup if you just look at the seeds, but these are actually two of the hottest teams in the league over the past month, with Coach Hoss winning three straight games and Coach Coaldog winning his past four. They match up well on on paper, too, with high-flying names like Peterson, Westbrook, Fitzgerald and Steve Smith. Any one of them could break out and earn his team the trophy.

The 'Bums were able to sit a player during the last two MNF games to ensure a victory, but that won't happen again in SuperBowl VIII. Both teams have players starting in the last possible game of our season. The 3FL title awaits!

Good luck this week.

Thanks to all for another fun season!

3FL Notes: S8: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

Underdogs and defenses ruled the quarterfinals. Three out of four lower seeds advanced to the semis in the fifth highest scoring week in our playoff history.

And the curse continues. Of course.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 82 points

Pittsburgh Steelers Defense - 23 points

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Chicago Bears
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Cleveland Browns @ Philadelphia Eagles

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl VIII, losers play for 3rd Place)

#8 Dumbbums vs. #5 Yuengling Brewers
The matchup of the blank helmet logos should be an interesting one. Everyone knows how hot the 'Bums have been, but the Brewers look like they can hold their own after outscoring everyone last week. Both teams have been here before. In fact, they have combined for three appearances in the big game (even though neither has won a 3FL championship). But another title shot will likely come down to Coach Coaldog's RBs that bookend the week.

#2 Baltimorons vs. #6 Marauders
This game has a little of the opposite of the other semifinal. These teams have also combined for three SuperBowl appearances, but all three have resulted in championships. The Steelers/Ravens game will be important for both teams, but the 'Morons have even more riding on the Sunday night showdown. Who will have a chance to add to their trophy collection?

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, Losers play for 7th)

#1 Predacons vs. #4 Misfits, Inc.
It's OK if you thought this game would have a SuperBowl berth riding on it. Instead it will only decide who gets to play for fifth place. And it's a shame, but it might be the best matchup of the weekend. We'll have to wait for the Eagles on MNF to find out who wins but we already know one thing. Projected points should be thrown right out the window.

#3 Spiked Vipers vs. #7 Lightning
Portis is cranky. Addai is hurt. These two are going to have to do some paying attention this week to make sure their starters are starting. It looks like the Lightning are going to rely on Eli to end the week with some Sunday night fireworks, but the most important game happens on Thursday night. Anyone get the NFL Network?

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl awaits!

Thursday, December 04, 2008

3FL Notes: S8: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

One point. That's all that separated the Renegades from a chance to defend their title. But the Lightning held on for a tie in the waning seconds on Monday night and punched their own ticket to the playoffs instead. Also, congratulations to the Brewers, Marauders, Dumbbums and Misfits, Inc. for earning a spot in the postseason.

There are two things to remember:

First, everyone who qualified for the playoffs will play in each of the next three weeks. Make sure you have a lineup set from now through the end of week 16.

Second, and more importantly, ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 12:55pm THIS SUNDAY, December 7th. You will not be able to add/drop after this time. Make sure your team is ready for the playoffs before then.

And don't forget that all remaining weeks start with a Thursday Night NFL game.

Also, all individual team pages and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2008 regular season.

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 106 points

Player MVPs:
Brian Westbrook (RB/Phi) - 30 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 24 points
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 22 points

Regular Season Final Predictions Tally

League Voting: 40/78 - 51.28%
Yahoo! Projections: 39/78 - 50%

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Oakland Raiders @ San Diego Chargers
Sunday Night: Washington Redskins @ Baltimore Ravens
Monday Night: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Carolina Panthers

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Predacons vs. #8 Dumbbums
Here comes the curse. For all of the Preds efforts they are rewarded for their first place regular season finish with a game against the hottest team in the league. The 'Bums are peaking at the right time, scoring more points in the last two weeks than any other 3FL team. 35 more points, actually. It will be close enough for fun, but the #1 seed is an underdog for a reason...

#2 Baltimorons vs. #7 Lightning
Just enough. That's how much the Lightning did to make it to this game. And after last week's tie, these two get to play each other again. It's kind of like a continuation of that game in overtime. Of course, in the playoffs there are no ties - total TDs scored by the entire starting roster is the first tiebreaker. We may need it.

#3 Spiked Vipers vs. #6 Marauders
In week four SpiVi won this matchup by two points and the rematch should be just as close. The Marauders' RBs should rack up the points this week, but how is Big Ben's knee? Kurt Warner should also score a bunch, but how many of his TDs will go to Larry Fitzgerald in a Marauders uniform? It should be a good one.

#4 Misfits, Inc. vs. #5 Yuengling Brewers
Now that they have officially qualified for the postseason, FitzCorp will most likely be favored to win every playoff game. Of course we all know what can happen despite the projections of the folks at Yahoo! We'll have to see who gets the start at QB for both teams to have a better idea of how things will turn out. The best two just might be sitting on their respective benches...

Good luck this week. Three wins in a row wins it all!

3FL Notes: S8: Week 13 Preview

The Playoff Picture

Entering the final week of the regular season, we know a few things for sure.

The Predacons have claimed the #1 seed for 2008 (and the curse that comes with it). The Vipers and Baltimorons will be in the top three for sure, and Misfits, Inc. are almost surely in after a stunning comeback from a 29 point deficit on Monday night. That leaves half of the postseason spots up for grabs, with six teams fighting for four spots.

If the Renegades, Brewers, Lightning, or Marauders win, they're in. After that it starts getting more complicated. See, the Renegades and Marauders play each other. As do the Dumbbums and haw, the other two teams with a chance to earn a playoff berth. It's going to be a wild week in the 3FL!

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 90 points

Week 13 Information

Thursday Early: Tennessee Titans @ Detroit Lions
Thursday Late: Seattle Seahawks @ Dallas Cowboys
Thursday Night: Arizona Cardinals @ Philadelphia Eagles
Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings
Monday Night: Jacksonville Jaguars @ Houston Texans

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
In a week of meaningful games, this one is not a part of the hype. Its outcome won't affect clinching or seeding or anything else. It could pull the Chair out of the basement or give the Preds double digits in the win column, but no one else will be paying attention...

Misfits, Inc. (-2) vs. Rough Riders
Now that FitzCorp has all but clinched a playoff spot, they have to be one of the favorites to win it all. Even with Donovan McNabb on the bench of both his NFL and 3FL teams. The Riders could break the record for least team points in a season this week, but they have a much better record than anyone could have thought after losing their top pick and team leader in the first 15 minutes of the season.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Both of these teams have been a roller coaster this year, with lofty highs and stomach dropping lows. So which will it be this week? All I know is that it will probably all come down to the RBs from both teams. And Kurt Warner, of course.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Coach Thad needs this win to get his team into the playoffs, and the 'Morons are on cruise control. The last two weeks have shown us how Coach Drew's team performs when there is no pressure on them. But can a three game losing streak be good to take into the first week of postseason play?

And the games of the week...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
What a great matchup for the last week of the season! These two are both on the outside looking in, but the victor alone will have a shot at playing next week. It's a classic QB shootout for sure, but just wait for Monday night. Matt Jones, still not suspended from the NFL, diving to make a TD grab in the final seconds to decide which team's season is over. How can you sleep?

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Win and you're in. It's as simple as that. The loser still has a chance at a playoff berth, but here in the 3FL you just never know what is going to happen. Almost half of the Renegades players are active on Thanksgiving while the most important ones for Coach Hoss don't take their place at the table until Sunday and Monday night. Who will feast? And who will have indigestion? It's going to be great! More gravy for everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week!

3FL Notes: S8: Week 12 Preview

After matching our lowest scoring week of the season and watching another round of upsets, things aren't much clearer in the postseason picture. Six spots remain unclaimed with only two weeks to go.

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 76 points

Player MVPs:
Joseph Addai (RB/Ind) - 19 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 18 points
DeAngelo Williams (RB/Car) - 18 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 37/66 - 56.06%
League Voting: 34/66 - 51.52%
Yahoo! Projections: 34/66 - 51.52%

Remember, the voting deadline is THURSDAY NIGHT this week. Go vote!

Week 12 Information

Thursday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ San Diego Chargers
Monday Night: Green Bay Packers @ New Orleans Saints

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

It's immediate family week in the 3FL - we have two siblings games and two parent/child games. Sounds like fun!

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The Renegades are looking to get an opportunity to defend their title while the 'Morons are hoping to avoid the curse. But I'm sure either team would be happy with a win in this battle of the two most recent SuperBowl champs. It's a shame Mewelde is no longer the starter for the Steelers - he could've made this one close.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds have already locked up a playoff berth and are holding down the top spot in the league. The Lightning still have something to play for, and that might be the difference. Along with a couple of MNF starters.

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Rough Riders
Don't look now, but the Riders could leapfrog the 'Bums with a head-to-head win this week. Sure, they may have scored 240 less points this year, but both teams have exactly the same record. Weird. We'll see if Coach Bev can continue to thrive in the underdog's role.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. ray ray haw
The haw won the first meeting this year, but that was before Kurt Warner departed Krypton and was picked up by the Vipers. With the way things are going it will probably end up in a tie after a strong Drew Brees performance on MNF. Now that would really make next week interesting...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Chair still has a ray of hope for this season. But pretty much everything would have to work out perfectly in the next two weeks, starting with a win against the freefalling FitzCorp and their five game skid. Will the best QB for each team be the one on the bench?

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Thursday night's game factors heavily on this one, with each team having two of their big boys active for the mid-week matchup. And since the hometown Steelers are playing, Coach Hoss will actually get to see it on tv. (It's OK - Coach Brew will be asleep anyway). This one is going end up being very close. Can I change my vote on Friday morning?

Good luck this week!

Thursday, November 13, 2008

3FL Notes: S8: Week 11 Preview

Last week was our highest scoring week of the season, complete with another tie and more upsets than not. And the Baltimorons earned the league's first postseason berth. Who will join them?

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 97 points

Player MVPs:
Jay Cutler (QB/Den) - 25 points
Thomas Jones (RB/NYJ) - 25 points
Tyler Thigpen (QB/KC) - 24 points
Kurt Warner (QB/Ari) - 24 points
New York Jets Defense - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 35/60 - 58.33%
League Voting: 31/60 - 51.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 32/60 - 53.33%

Remember, the voting deadline is THURSDAY NIGHT this week. Go vote!

Week 11 Information

Thursday Night: New York Jets @ New England Patriots
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins
Monday Night: Cleveland Browns @ Buffalo Bills
Bye Weeks: Finished for the Season

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 11:

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Coach Hoss has scored just one more point than Coach haw through the first ten weeks of the season, and these two are very evenly matched this week. Could it be another 3FL tie? Not if the haw wants to play past week 13...

Renegades (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Beermen now have a controversy at QB to go with their touch-and-go RB2 spot. The Renegades should be able to take advantage of the situation this week, but they'll most likely have to watch their players rack up points against the Steelers to do so.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Predacons
It's 1 vs. 2 in a matchup that should be exciting to watch. Too bad no one else really cares. The 'Morons have quite a streak going and Peyton always struggles against the Texans, so look for the Preds Sunday night comeback to end up just a bit short.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Rough Riders
In the past six weeks, the Vipers have earned two ties and two one-point victories. I think the margin may be a little bit bigger this week, but the Riders may have another surprise in store.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
This might be the last gasp for the Chair in their quest for a playoff spot. But the 'Bums don't have the time to be empathetic, as they are also fighting to be included in the postseason. We'll know much more after tonight's game (that no one can watch on tv). Goooooo StatTracker!

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Did you know that the 'Fitz and the Lightning are tied in the standings right now? And did you know that in the past four weeks the 'Fitz have four losses while the Lightning have three wins? It will take all week (Coaches Tim & Jul have a player active in each of the five NFL time slots), but it looks like a reverse in trends is likely.

Good luck this week!

Thursday, November 06, 2008

3FL Notes: S8: Week 10 Preview

The Baltimorons climbed to the top of the standings after a weekend of upsets and close games. We also had our first trade of the season last week. Will we see any more before the deadline (Nov. 21)?

Remember - there is a Thursday NFL game every week from now until the end of the 3FL playoffs. Make sure to set your players in those games (and vote on the 3FL games) before kickoff (8:15pm).

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 75 points

Player MVPs:
Gus Frerotte (QB/Min) - 19 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 19 points
Kurt Warner (QB/Ari) - 18 points
Arizona Cardinals Defense - 18 points
Pittsburgh Steelers Defense - 18 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 34/54 - 62.96%
League Voting: 30/54 - 55.56%
Yahoo! Projections: 30/54 - 55.56%

Remember, the voting deadline is THURSDAY NIGHT this week. Go vote!

Week 10 Information

Thursday Night: Denver Broncos @ Cleveland Browns
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles
Monday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ Arizona Cardinals
Bye Week: Cincinnati, Dallas, Tampa Bay, Washington

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 10:

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
You know you're in the midst of a disappointing season when you trot out Tyler Thigpen as the starting QB to try and shake things up. At least the Chair has an active player in every time slot from Thursday to Monday. You know, so they'll be a reason to watch...

Marauders (-1) vs. Rough Riders
Coach Bev just can't catch a break this year. But this might be the week for her to pick up a sneaky win against the red hot Marauders, especially if Big Ben ends up on the big bench. But wait - Coach Hoss' backup is J.Delhomme vs. Oakland. Oh, well.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Both of these teams have the same record, but the 'Bums are averaging 15 more points per week than the Atmospheric Discharges of Electricity. All eyes will be on the four players in the Sunday night game. An Eli to Amani hookup could change everything.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Remember just a few weeks ago when these two teams had matching records and were holding down the top two places in the standings? Well, a combined three weeks and five losses later we are looking at a little more urgency from both sides. FitzCorp can't lose four in a row...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Coach haw's team has hit a rough patch, but they appear to be ready for a breakout game this week. Meanwhile, newly acquired Renegade A.Boldin will try to lead a MNF comeback in his first week with the team. With the up-and-down seasons for both of these two, can we really be surprised by the outcome?

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Both of these teams are riding four game winning streaks into this week. But whose will continue? It looks to be a close one, but the RBs and a capable (albiet rookie) backup QB will make the difference. Maybe.

Good luck this week!

Thursday, October 30, 2008

3FL Notes: S8: Week 9 Preview

Another team hit the century mark last week while our margins of victory ranged from 1 point to 51 points. And every team is still in the hunt for a postseason spot.

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 102 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 23 points
Matt Schaub (QB/Hou) - 23 points
Philip Rivers (QB/SD) - 22 points
Brian Westbrook (RB/Phi) - 22 points

Week 9 Information

Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Indianapolis Colts
Monday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Washington Redskins
Bye Week: Carolina, New Orleans, San Diego, San Francisco

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
Don't look now, but our only twin billing (sorry) this year just might be the upset special of the week. Coach Val has a decision to make regarding the waiver wire - drop quality players for bye week fill-ins or leave the spots empty and hope for the best against Coach Bev's Riders. The whole league is waiting on the decision...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Predacons
These two teams seem to be going in opposite directions. And the 'Bums can continue the trend and leap ahead of the Preds with a victory here. Even with G.Frerotte at QB.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Lightning
This year's kings of the close game will be looking for more of a cushion this week against the underachieving Bolts. And with Warner and the Chicago D back in action, it looks like they may have a chance to pad their place at the top of the standings.

Marauders (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
Speaking of a cushion, Coach Hoss is looking for a seat on the Chair this week. His Marauders are on a win streak as Coach Skrabby's team is heading in the other direction. Both of those trends will continue...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Lately it seems like many businesses, including our own FitzCorp, have seen a decline in market value in the past few weeks. With two straight losses the 'Morons have even leapfrogged them in the standings. But I have a feeling that stocks might be ready for a rebound. Especially if Hines can outscore Mewelde on MNF.

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
What has happened to the haw? After being voted the preseason co-favorite to win SuperBowl VII, Coach Haw's team will have twice as many losses as wins with a defeat this week. And with Brees and Tomlinson on a bye it looks like the Brew Crew just might extend their win streak to four.

Happy Halloween and good luck this week!

Renegades (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Their even records and almost even point totals aside, the winner of this game will have the upper hand in the fight for the playoffs. More importantly, the loser will not. But no matter what happens it won't be T.Romo's fault.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Rough Riders
The Brew Crew came out of nowhere last week and almost put 100 points on the board. They might not reach that total again, but they do get some favorable matchups against the bye week affected Riders.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Dumbbums
And through the 'Bums revolving door of QBs steps...Matt Cassel! Maybe he can turn the four game losing streak around. But with McNabb back on the field for FitzCorp, I wouldn't count on it.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The new league leader looks to stay on top with a win in this even matchup. Most likely SpiVi will start the wrong QB and the Preds will start the wrong RBs, so things will really be decided by the arm of P.Manning on Monday night. How many TDs will he throw to the Vipers' D.Clark?

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Baltimorons
With the 'Morons starting QB, TE, and K on a bye, the haw should have a low stress weekend that ends with a win. Unless they put in a performance like last week. 29 points isn't going to cut it against the other team with two championships.

And the game of the week...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Both of these teams are coming off of solid wins last week, but only one will continue the trend. It's Eli vs. Ben in the NFL and the 3FL on Sunday afternoon. But more interesting will be watching Coach Thad's team try to fire up a MNF comeback.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S8: Week 7 Preview

Are you kidding me? The Dumbbums were tied with the Vipers going into Monday night. All they needed to pick up a win was for their Defense (the undefeated, reigning NFL Super Bowl champion New York Giants) to score one point against the lowly Cleveland Browns.

They ended up with -1 point and a loss for Coach Coaldog.

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Teams:
Misfits/Predacons - 72 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 24 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 23 points
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 22 points

Week 7 Information

Sunday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Monday Night: Denver Broncos @ New England Patriots
Bye Week: Arizona, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Philadelphia

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
These two teams are evenly matched - right down to their records and points scored this season. But not this week. The matchups give the Brewers a huge advantage. Then again, B.Favre is going up against Oakland...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds have gone a quiet 5-1 in the first six weeks of the season, but it looks like they'll pick up a second loss against Coach Hoss and his top notch RBs. It's just a shame that Big Ben will be the one to bring the hammer down.

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Rough Riders
The haw are finally clicking on all cylinders and starting to live up to the preseason hype. The Riders are still reeling from the week 1 injury of T.Brady and some bad luck. Which continues...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Both of these teams have been tough to figure out this year, so we can only imagine what will happen when go head-to-head. It will be close all weekend and will only be decided with a comeback by Denver's defense on Monday night.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
It's the backup QB game. With K.Warner on a bye this week, will SpiVi jump on the J.Russell bandwagon? There is some room. And A.Rogers is finally starting for the Corp. this weekend after holding the clipboard for the first half of the season. He's done that before.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
After the disappointing defeat last Monday night, things don't get any easier for the 'Bums against the rival 'Morons. And with Coach Drew's QB and RB active this Monday night, a last minute loss could be in the works again. That would be tough to take.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S8: Week 6 Preview

Last week's Game of the Week ended in a tie (kind of like I said). That should make things interesting as we get closer to the playoffs. Can you believe we're already more than one third of the way through the regular season?

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Teams:
Marauders/Predacons - 75 points

Player MVPs:
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit) - 22 points
Brandon Jacobs (RB/NYG) - 18 points
Kyle Orton (QB/Chi) - 18 points
Chicago Bears Defense - 18 points

Week 6 Information

Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ San Diego Chargers
Monday Night: New York Giants @ Cleveland Browns
Bye Week: Buffalo, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Tennessee

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
It seems like most of the players on both of these teams have favorable matchups this week. It will all come down to the Giants offense on MNF. Coach Thad will have a reason to stay up late and watch again. Coach Brew will be asleep before kickoff.

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Rough Riders
It's a little difficult to predict a winner on Thursday when neither coach is going to set their lineup before Sunday morning. I'll have to go with the team that has J.Cutler and T.O. already active...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Both teams' QBs will be feasting on defenseless defenses this week, but the meatiest dish will come on Sunday night, when two players from each team will be active. It will all be over before Monday morning - but who will need the Pepto-Bismol?

Misfits, Inc (-1) vs. Marauders
Both of these teams are playing well coming into week 6, but that could change if Coach Hoss continues his recent laissez-faire management style. The Marauders could use a full complement of players and a little luck against the #1 team in the league.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
SpiVi scored one point last Monday night to turn a loss into a tie. They will be looking for a win this week against the heavily injured 'Bums, who come into the week with a facial fracture, a strained elbow, and a couple of broken ribs. And that's just in the starting lineup.

And the game of the week...

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Renegades
This one will be decided by which two RBs Coach Sinkerbeam decides to start; we already know what T.Romo can do. And for the first time this year the Preds don't have an active player in either of the prime time games - they'll just have to wait and see if the Renegades can make a comeback.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S8: Week 5 Preview

And just like that the streak records are safe. In one week we saw all three undefeated teams lose and all three winless teams earn a victory. It has evened things out quite a bit and proved once again that anything can happen in the 3FL.

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Teams:
ray ray haw/The Comfy Chair - 80 points

Player MVPs:
Brett Favre (QB/NYJ) - 39 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 23 points
Laveranues Coles (WR/NYJ) - 23 points

Week 5 Information

Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Monday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints
Bye Week: Cleveland, New York Jets, Oakland, St. Louis

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Lightning
Last week the haw tied for most points scored for the week while the Bolts tied for the fifth fewest points ever scored in one 3FL week. Don't expect the same extreme totals, but the overall results should end up the same.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
Both of these teams are riding one week winning streaks, but only one will double that total. The Chair has the best chance to do so - but the real odds may change if the Riders' final starting roster does. Check back again on Sunday morning...

Predacons (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Preds look to get back on track with Peyton back in charge of the ship and a clown car full of RBs to pick from. The Brew crew surprised a lot of people with their win last week, but don't be surprised if this one ends up going down to the MNF wire.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Renegades
Coach Tim-A said in his weekly presser that Aaron Rogers is the starter for now. We'll see how he feels just before gametime - especially with the Philly Defense starting for the Renegades. Either way, it looks like a big week is in store for a co-managed team.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The 'Bums have a lot of question marks in the starting lineup. And by question marks, I mean guys that may be watching the games from the sidelines in a team logo hoodie. Look for the Marauders to come back in a big way after the 1pm games are over.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Looks like we might have our first tie of the year when these two battle in the GotW. We have the QB from one team throwing to the WR from the other, and the Defense of one team playing against the RB of the other. All I know is that it's going to be a fun matchup to watch...

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S8: Week 4 Preview

The league is perfectly tiered after three weeks of competition. And things are about to get more interesting - six NFL teams are on a bye this week, so many 3FL teams will be starting second and third stringers.

Kind of like the Steelers...

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 70 points

Player MVPs:
Michael Turner (RB/Atl) - 23 points
Baltimore Ravens Defense - 21 points
Brett Favre (QB/NYJ) - 19 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 11/18 - 61.11%
League Voting: 9/18 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 8/18 - 44.44%

Go vote! Also, remember to vote on the 3FL blog questions in the sidebar. Both sets of polls close at 12:55pm each Sunday.

Week 4 Information

Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Chicago Bears
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Bye Week: Detroit, Indy, Miami, New England, NY Giants, Seattle

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Normally having Carson Palmer as your QB would be a good thing. But this year he has dropped to a role as a bye week fill in for the 'Bums. With B.Westbrook questionable and some favorable matchups, the Renegades should be able to even out their record at 2-2.

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Predacons
The haw saw their 5 man bench outscore their 9 man starting lineup...by 12 points. That won't happen again this week (since 4 of 5 on his bench are on a bye), and they should cruise to victory over the J.T. O'Sullivan led Preds.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Even though the Chair now has the Farve-Stuckey hook up, the 'Morons should be able to squeak by based on J.Cutler's easy matchup. Plus, TO won't be held scoreless for two weeks in a row. Right?

Misfits (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Brewers have not yet earned a win this season, and running into Minc. with some soft matchups this week will not change things. After only 3 weeks the Misfits have scored twice as many points as the Brewers. The Steelers/Ravens Defensive matchup on MNF will be fun to watch, but this game will probably be over before that one begins.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Coach Hoss has some things to do before Sunday's games. Like hit the free agent pool and give an inspiring speech to the Steelers offensive line. The Vipers have no significant injuries or bye week holes, and they'll have a chance to sit back and enjoy the games.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
The RBs of these two teams go head-to-head on Monday night to determine the victor. Coach Thad has a WR in his pocket for prime time, too, and that could make the difference. As long as D.Anderson can remain the starter in Cleveland for one more game...

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 18, 2008

3FL Notes: S8: Week 3 Preview

Last week saw another team hit the century mark, the Vipers change their logo, and the Commish's neighborhood lose power for the entire Steelers game.

Odds on a repeat of those things? Maybe, none, and I hope not.

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 101 points

Player MVPs:
Jay Cutler (QB/Den) - 31 points
Anquan Boldin (WR/Ari) - 25 points
Kurt Warner (QB/Ari) - 25 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 7/12 - 58.33%
League Voting: 6/12 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 6/12 - 50%

You have until Sunday @ 12:55pm to vote this week.

Week 3 Information

Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night: New York Jets @ San Diego Chargers
Bye Week: None until week 4

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
It's a shame, but one of these teams will start the year 0-3. That's a tough hole to climb out of in this league. The slight edge to get on the winning track goes to Coach Thad, since the Chair's QB and DEF play against each other.

Predacons (-1) vs. Rough Riders
The Riders have started this season with a string of bad luck and things may not be any easier this week. Coach Bev does have some favorable matchups, though, and depending on the injury status reports the Preds may need the entire game on MNF to avoid the upset special.

Misfits (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
A classic in the making. These teams look about even, but what is really up with LaDanian's toe? That answer could change things. So could Sunday night, with 5 players participating in the Cowboys/Packers game. Like you needed another reason to stay up and watch...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
J.Kitna will step in this week and try to get the Brew Crew their first win. But the undefeated 'Bums counter with Steve Smith back from suspension. Still, it will be closer than you think.

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Marauders
Another week, another 'Morons comeback. But is it the Marauders turn this week? Can V.Jackson score more than 18 points? The answers to those two questions will have to be the same...

And the game of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
I flipped a coin to decide this one. It should be an instant classic, as these two match up really well on paper (on screen, actually). The Vipers will be finished at around 7:30pm on Sunday and they'll have to watch as the Renegades make a comeback attempt with their three remaining players. Even StatTracker can't wait.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S8: Week 2 Preview

The top stories of opening week were all about big performances and big injuries. The waiver wire is getting quite a workout...

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 106 points

Player MVPs:
Donovan McNabb (QB/Phi) - 25 points
Willie Parker (RB/Pit) - 24 points
Michael Turner (RB/Atl) - 23 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 3/6 - 50%
League Voting: 3/6 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 2/6 - 33.33%

You have until Sunday @ 12:55pm to vote this week.

Week 2 Information

Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cleveland Browns
Monday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
Bye Week: None until week 4

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Too close to call. Seriously. It will be a back and forth battle, but someone will have to end up 0-2 to start the season.

Misfits, Inc. (-2) vs. Rough Riders
The top scoring team from last week plays the lowest scoring team from last week. Ouch. And that's not just about T.Brady's knee...

Predacons (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
M.Turner will never again turn in a performance like he did in week 1, but the Preds look to have a slight advantage in this one. The scores will end up within a field goal of each other, and (appropriately) we'll have to wait for the kicker's battle on Monday night to see who gets the victory.

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Lightning
The injury bug struck Coach Thad's WRs hard last week. Meanwhile, the 'Morons completed a big Monday night comeback and are looking to repeat that storyline. Can the Lightning really root against Santonio?

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Renegades
This will all come down to the night games, with 5 of the most important players to each team getting ready for prime time. The C.Johnson question mark gives Coach Hoss the slightest of advantages.

And the game of the week...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
This is going to be a good one, all the way through until Monday night. These teams are as evenly matched as they come (at least in week 2). Can LaDanian prove he was worth the #1 pick? Or will Westbrook steal the show?

Good luck this week.

Tuesday, September 02, 2008

3FL Notes: S8: Week 1 Preview

Can the Renegades defend the title? Will the Lightning score over 1,000 points again this season? Are the Predacons ready to return to the playoffs? Only the 3FL season will have the answers...

It all starts on Thursday night!
Remember to have your starting lineups set 5 minutes before the games start this week. Any players in the Redskins vs. Giants game will be locked in whichever lineup position you have them at 6:55pm EDT on Thursday.

Voting is back!
You can once again vote on who YOU think will win each 3FL game. All votes need to be in before the Thursday night game, so vote soon. It won’t take you long. I'll keep a tally again this year and we can see how the predictions turn out.

And don't forget to vote in the 3FL Polls on the sidebar on the right side of this blog.

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: Washington Redskins @ New York Giants
Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ Indianapolis Colts
Monday Night Early: Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night Late: Denver Broncos @ Oakland Raiders
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Predacons
This one looks pretty even, but Peyton and Ocho Cinco are not yet at full strength. If the Preds want to win they'll have to start the season off with a Monday night comeback.

Rough Riders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
There are a lot of "expected to play in week 1" notes beside the players on these two teams. Except for S.Smith - he's suspended and for sure out until week 3. I wonder if anyone will notice...

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
How is the team with the number one pick this good? Include ome tough matchups for SpiVi and this father-son rivalry starts off with a whimper. As a consolation, the NFL reduced B.Marshall's suspension.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Yahoo Brew look pretty strong to open the season (even if their coach hasn't looked at them yet). But Coach Hoss will hope his first pick can mount a comeback and save week 1.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The last two league champions meet in a great battle this week, and it should be a close one. The 'Morons have their players spread out from Thursday night to Tuesday morning so it will be a waiting game for everyone.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Minc has the slightest of edges in this one, but if J.Lewis doesn't play things could change. Who among them will stay up until 1:15am on Tuseday to see how it turns out?

Good Luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 8!

Go vote...

3FL Notes: 2008 Draft Analysis

The new Yahoo! software worked well and I think everyone had a good time during our online draft. Here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. ray ray haw: LaDanian Tomlinson was the obvious first pick, and rrh only took about 7 seconds to make it. The rest of the team fills in nicely, with a top tier choice at each position.
Grade: A

2. Marauders: Coach Hoss wasn't able to be in attendance for the draft, and his team ended up a little less Hoss-like because of it. But the starters are still a force to be reckoned with. Grade: A-

3. Rough Riders: The Riders are led by Tom Brady, so who cares about the rest of the lineup? Especially the three TEs that ended up on the squad... Grade: B

4. The Comfy Chair: The Jets took a chance on Brett Favre, and so did the Chair - in the third round. The rest of the team looks OK for now. Grade: B

5. Yuengling Brewers: Once again, Yahoo! did a decent job of picking for the Beermen. Now it's just a matter of keeping up with the NFL news. Like a player getting cut by his team... Grade: B+

6. Dumbbums: Coach Coaldog had to work on draft night, but his team still ended up quite good without his online presence. Maybe he should put himself on the schedule for next year, too.
Grade: A-

7. Lightning: The LFO looks like a quality team this year. As long as the RBs stay healthy and Derek Anderson avoids helmet-to-helmet contact. Go spreadsheets! Grade: A

8. Renegades: The defending Super Bowl champions look good but not great after this year's draft. Of course that's what we said all last season, and look who is in possession of the trophy right now. Grade: B

9. Misfits, Inc.: Appropriately, FitsCorp ended up with a couple of Eagles and a Steeler. And even their backups look decent.
Grade: A

10. Baltimorons: Coach Drew's team boasts a deep WR corps and four starting RBs (for now). What more could you ask for?
Grade: A-

11. Spiked Vipers: The Vipers ended up with a questionable bunch of characters. The only thing for sure is that Brandon Marshall is suspended for the first game of the season. Grade: B

12. Predacons: Ugh. Last pick wasn't particularly kind to the Predacons. But depending on how things go, it could be a surprisingly good season for Coach Sinkerbeam. Or not.
Grade: B+

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions early next week. Stay tuned.

Draft Day

Don't forget - our live online draft starts tonight at 8:30pm EDT.

Yahoo!'s Java draft applet is new for this season - make sure you run a test on your computer to make sure you have the necessary plug-ins installed. Just go to our league homepage and click "test your system" at any point before the draft.

And don't forget to vote in our first poll. ------------->

Make sure that you arrive and sign in a little early - the draft will start right on time.

If you are unable to be online tonight, make sure you set up your pre-rankings prior to 7:30pm. The draft will be just like the old autopick style for you. In fact, even if you will be online it might be a good idea to set your pre-rankings anyway. You know, just in case there is a thunderstorm or something happens to your internet connection right when your turn comes up.

Good luck!
