SuperBowl IX Champion

Congratulations to the Spiked Vipers!

Coach Googullymoogully's team has already won and deactivated their TE who was scheduled to play tonight (just in case he fumbles five times). The curse of the #1 seed is upheld!

Stay tuned later in the week for final stats and the 2009 season wrap-up.

Thanks to everyone for a great season!

3FL Notes: S9: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

The trophy is headed somewhere new! After a wild semifinals week our SuperBowl matchup is set - it's Stiletto Stompers vs. Spiked Vipers for the 3FL championship.

The Vipers completed an unbelievable MNF comeback to tie the 'Bums and win the tiebreaker by a single TD. The Stompers stormed out to an early week lead and did just enough to hold off the surging Predacons.

Who will be receiving a late Christmas present? We'll have to watch and see.

Week 16 Information

Friday Night: San Diego Chargers @ Tennessee Titans
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins
Monday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears

Here we go...SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#2 Misfits vs. #5 Lightning
How did these two 8-5 teams end up here, fighting not to fall to the last possible ranking in the playoffs? FitzCorp has now lost five straight games and the Lightning have had their usual postseason luck. It's too bad - this is possibly the best matchup of the week.

For 5th Place:
#6 Baltimorons vs. #8 Renegades
Both teams come in with strong QBs and the top WR of the other team's QB. It looks like it may be a high scoring affair, but it will be close enough so that each team will have to watch Miles Austin close things out on Sunday night.

For 3rd Place:
#3 Dumbbums vs. #4 Predacons
One point. That's all that separated the 'Bums from a chance to defend the title and keep the trophy. Instead, they must play the Predacons to earn third place. It will all come down to the Vikings MNF performance, which is appropriate. Minnesota's week 15 debacle is partly why these two are here instead of playing in...

3FL SuperBowl IX
#1 Stiletto Stompers vs. #7 Spiked Vipers
Looks like this one will live up to the hype. Neither team has much experience in the big game (the Stompers lost in SB IV as the Rough Riders and this is the first Vipers' opportunity) so the trophy will be engraved with a new name. Peyton Manning and Drew Brees are the obvious story line - they have a combined NFL record of 27-1 this year. But don't be surprised is someone else rises up to take the title for his team.

Will the Stompers break the curse? Can the Vipers complete another incredible MNF comeback? Or is something even more amazing going to happen? It should be a great one - and the 3FL title awaits!

Happy Festivus, Merry Christmas and good luck this week.

Thanks to all for another fun season!

3FL Notes: S9: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

Three of the four higher seeds were victorious in the quarterfinals, with only Misfits, Inc. dropping into the consolation bracket from the group of division winners. Who will earn their way to the SuperBowl?

Don't forget that there are NFL games on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday this week.

Also, all individual team pages and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2009 regular season.

Andre Johnson (WR/Hou) - 21 points

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Saturday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ New Orleans Saints
Sunday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Carolina Panthers
Monday Night: New York Giants @ Washington Redskins

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl IX, losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 Stiletto Stompers vs. #4 Predacons
The Stompers avoided the curse last week - can they do it again? These teams look pretty evenly matched. In fact, they both scored in the mid-90's in their first round games. But will Peyton get much playing time on Thursday? Will Percy Harvin be recovered from his migranes? The Preds will be hoping for some more Sunday night playoff magic after the Stompers surge to an early advantage.

#3 Dumbbums vs. #7 Spiked Vipers
The 'Bums hold the trophy. The Vipers have never been to the big game. But this is a great matchup to decide who gets a SuperBowl birth. It's going to be crazy on the schedule, too. They will combine to start 11 players in prime time games, with 7 of those playing before Sunday. Anyone get the NFL Network?

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs #6 Baltimorons
The 'Fitz have fallen on hard times since being at the top of the standings just a few weeks ago. They have lost their last four and have averaged less than 46 points per game during that stretch. The 'Morons were headed in the opposite direction, winning their last four regular season games before scoring their lowest total of the season last week. Who wants it more?

#5 Lightning vs. #8 Renegades
Will Randy Moss quit on the Lightning? Will Kurt Warner bounce back against the Lions? Will we find out what Quinton Ganther is made of as he makes his first start for the Bolts on MNF? These two teams each deserved a better fate, but that's how it goes in the 3FL. The fight for fifth is on.

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl awaits!

3FL Notes: S9: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

It came down to the final NFL game in our final week of the regular season, but the playoffs are now set. The Baltimorons used a MNF comeback victory to stamp their ticket to the postseason, while the Renegades scored over 100 points to leave no doubt that they were also in. The Spiked Vipers won their game and earned the 7th seed.

Three wins in a row wins it all!

There are two things to remember:

First, everyone who qualified for the playoffs will play in each of the next three weeks. Make sure you have a lineup set from now through the end of week 16.

Second, and more importantly, ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 12:55pm THIS SUNDAY, December 13th. You will not be able to add/drop after this time. Make sure your team is ready for the playoffs before then.

And don't forget that all remaining weeks start with a Thursday or Friday Night NFL game.

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Renegades - 102 points

Player MVPs:
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 25 points
Kurt Warner (QB/Ari) - 23 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 20 points

Yahoo! Projections: 44/78 - 56.41%

Voting is up and running for the playoffs but the polls close just before the Steelers/Browns game on Thursday evening. Go vote!

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cleveland Browns
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants
Monday Night: Arizona Cardinals @ San Francisco 49ers

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Stiletto Stompers vs. #8 Renegades
Coach Bev is the only member of her immediate family without her name etched upon the 3FL trophy. Is this the year? Or will the curse of the #1 seed stop the Stompers? The Renegades won this battle during Rivalry Week, but we all know that anything can happen in he playoffs. Both twins will be watching as Kurt Warner tries to finish a Renegades comeback on MNF.

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #7 Spiked Vipers
The 'Fitz have claimed that they're saving themselves for the postseason, and three straight losses to end the regular season seem to confirm that strategy. Meanwhile, the Vipers have won their last four and have been counting on a majority of the New Orleans Saints to lead their team to victory. These two 3FL East foes split their regular season matchups and they'll both have a chance to kickoff the week while watching one of their own on Thursday night. Go Steelers!

#3 Dumbbums vs. #6 Baltimorons
These two again. Father/son, division rivals, SuperBowl champions. But only one will advance. They each won a game against the other this season, but the 'Morons are heating up as they have won four straight to get to this point. It should be an instant classic. Can Coach Drew engineer another prime time comeback? Or will the 'Bums turn the tables while everyone stays up late on Monday night to end the football week?

#4 Predacons vs. #5 Lightning
The Lightning would actually be the higher seed if we weren't split into divisions, so an upset victory wouldn't exactly be an upset. It looks like it will come down to which players score for the Chargers on Sunday. And who gets the start at QB for the Bolts. And if any of their WRs score any points at all.

Good luck this week. The trophy awaits!

3FL Notes: S9: Week 13 Preview

The Playoff Picture

Three playoff spots remain up for grabs as we enter the final week of the regular season. The Baltimorons, Spiked Vipers and ray ray haw are in if they win. But the 'Morons and haw play against each other this week, opening the door for the Renegades.

If Coach Val's team can win and total more season points than the loser of the 'Morons/haw, they will claim the last playoff spot. And to make it more fun all four of these teams are within 34 points of each other.

It should be an exciting week!

Week 12 Recap

Week 13 Information

Thursday Night: New York Jets @ Buffalo Bills
Sunday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Arizona Cardinals
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Green Bay Packers

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Fitz clinched a playoff spot long ago and have been on cruise control for the past few weeks. The Brew Crew needs to win and score 100 more points than the losing haw for a shot at the playoffs. That's not going to happen, especially with their starting RB on IR.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Both teams have qualified for postseason play, but a Lightning win here could gain them the divisional championship. Then again, a loss may see these two play each other again next week in the quarter-finals.

Stiletto Stompers (-1) vs. Marauders
The Heels are in. Coach Hoss is out. No one will be paying much attention to this game except for the Lightning. And to see if Coach Bev can go 4-0 in the division and maybe earn the top (cursed) seed in the playoffs.

And the games of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Renegades must win and get some help to avoid missing the playoffs for a second straight year. The easiest way would be with a haw loss (since Coach Val's team has already scored more points than they have), but there are multiple routes to the postseason. Of course, they all go through the arm of Kurt Warner. Will he even play? There are no other QBs on their bench!

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Vipers are Yahoo! underdogs in this one and they'd better watch out. The Renegades are only 9 points behind and a loss here just might end the season for SpiVi. And there is nothing the Chair would like more than to affect the playoff picture and vault a fellow 3FL West team to the postseason. Well, other than maybe some new upholstery for 2010.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
Win and you're in. It's as simple as that. And it will all come down to Monday night! What a great way to end the regular season - a great divisional matchup to decide a spot in the playoffs. For the record, if it ends in a tie then they're both in...

Good luck this week!

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

3FL Notes: S9: Week 12 Preview

Half of our eight playoff spots have been claimed. But with only two weeks remaining in the regular season, no 3FL team is mathematically eliminated. Looks like we're in for a wild finish!

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 86 points

Player MVPs:
Ricky Williams (RB/Mia) - 23 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 21 points
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit) - 21 points

Week 12 Information

Thursday Early: Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions
Thursday Late: Oakland Raiders @ Dallas Cowboys
Thursday Night: New York Giants @ Denver Broncos
Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Baltimore Ravens
Monday Night: New England Patriots @ New Orleans Saints

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Chair needs to win both remaining games and get a bunch of help from the rest of the league, so it's not the easiest road to the postseason. But we all know that anything can happen in the 3FL. The Preds have already clinched the 3FL West (thanks to the Chair's victory last week) and may be sleepwalking in this one.

Renegades (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
These two teams are going in opposite directions. The Brewers haven't been scoring much since earning a record weekly total and they have lost three straight games. And the Renegades are making a playoff push despite starting the season 0-4. Kurt Warner holds the key to victory (as long as his head holds up).

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
What a great division and family rivalry this has turned out to be. The trash talk has started already (although it sounds like a bunch of Dungeons and Dragons stuff) and these two will be ready to go for this week. The epic battle will extend through all the weekend's games and just might be the second 'Bums tie of the year.

Lightning (-1) vs. Marauders
Jay Cutler has been benched after last week's stunning last second loss. He pulled defeat from the jaws of victory and will now watch Alex Smith start for the Lightning. The Marauders broke out of a slump last week, but Big Ben won't be as prolific against the rival Ravens.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
The Stompers have clinched a playoff berth and are coasting into the end of the regular season. They should be a little worried for Peyton Manning, though. If the Colts keep winning, he may not have to play at all during our playoffs. The haw chose starters for a good TV matchup last week. I doubt that will happen again.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
This great matchup starts with a couple of players on Thanksgiving and ends with a flourish on Monday night. I can't agree with Yahoo! that the Saints will light up the scoreboard against the Patriots, but it may be enough to eek out a much needed Vipers victory. But FitzCorp sure does have a way of coming through in prime time...

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week!

3FL Notes: S9: Week 11 Preview

Rivalry week was as exciting as advertised, complete with a Monday night comeback and a one-point game decided on the very last play. And Misfits, Inc. earned the league's first postseason berth. Who will join them?

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Renegades - 81 points

Player MVPs:
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 26 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 23 points
Chris Johnson (RB/Ten) - 23 points
Baltimore Ravens Defense - 22 points

Week 11 Information

Thursday Night: Miami Dolphins @ Carolina Panthers
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Chicago Bears
Monday Night: Tennessee Titans @ Houston Texans
Bye Weeks: Finished for the Season

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 11:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
If it wasn't for Bill Belichick, the Preds would have just about clinched the 3FL West with the second set of divisional games still to go. As it stands they need to keep fighting and hoping for the Steelers to win this week without much production from Big Ben. The Marauders need a victory here to keep a thin sliver of postseason hopes alive.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
In a great matchup that will play out in prime time, these two division foes will clash in what should be an epic battle. A combined six players are active under the lights (although with DST finished I realize it now gets dark at 5pm). It's a shame that the haw's cable plan doesn't include ESPN because Monday Night Football will decide it all!

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Where have all the RBs gone? The two starters for the 'Fitz are both out, with one injured and one really injured. That might be enough for the 'Morons to sneak out of this week with a victory. But after last week I wouldn't bet against the Corp's Sunday night magic.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
With soft matchups across the board, the Vipers are looking to leapfrog the Brewers in the standings with a win. The Brew Crew has lost two straight and is going to have to rely heavily on Tom Brady to have a chance here. We'll have a clearer picture after tonight's game. That no one can watch.

Renegades (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Chair could be assured a seat as a spectator during the postseason with a loss. And if that's not enough pressure, Coach Val gets to start Kurt Warner vs. the Rams and Cincinnati's D vs. the Raiders. Sorry, Chair. At least the cushion is soft.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Lightning
This could finally be the break the Bolts have been looking for - a head-to-head matchup that would vault them to the top of the 3FL North. If they win. Coach Bev and Peyton Manning have a different idea. SNF will be fun, with Jay Cutler (Lightning) up against the Eagles D (Stompers). It's like every point will be doubled.

Good luck this week!

3FL Notes: S9: Week 10 Preview

It's Rivalry Week in the 3FL! This week's games include matchups with a history - like twin vs. twin and Brewers vs. haw. It's the first of what will be an annual event and an exciting week before the second set of divisional games wraps up the regular season.

Remember - there is a Thursday NFL game every week from now until 3FL SuperBowl week. Make sure to set your players in those games (and vote on the 3FL games) before kickoff (8:20pm).

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 99 points

Player MVPs:
Kurt Warner (QB/Ari) - 35 points
Jay Cutler (QB/Chi) - 23 points
Greg Olsen (TE/Chi) - 21 points

Week 10 Information

Thursday Night: Chicago Bears @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Indianapolis Colts
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Cleveland Browns
Bye Week: Houston, New York Giants

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 10:

ray ray haw (-2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Wow. This rivalry goes way back, but this game may not be much of a contest. More than half of the haw's players are projected to score in double figures. Not even Tom Brady can offset those kind of numbers.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds have been on the winning end of the "biggest blowout" for the last two weeks, but it doesn't look like that streak will be extended. The Fitz are back on top of the standings and are looking to stay there. And coach sinkerbeam has one too many players who can only score if McNabb does.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
After suffering a heartbreaking one point loss against the 'Bumbs last Monday night, the Stompers will again have to endure a game under the lights to decide the victor. The winner will also depend on which Kurt Warner shows up on Sunday - rejuvenated 5 TD throwing Kurt or the old, graying, shaking his head version.

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Marauders
The loser of this game will have some work to do in order to make the playoffs. These two former champions are both having an uncharacteristic year, but someone will take the first step toward the postseason. Can I wait and see who (if anyone) ends up in the final starting lineups before I choose the winner?

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Rumor has it that the coach GooMoo will be driving to visit coach ThadTotti for the weekend. Even more fun! The Vipers games are over at 7:30pm on Sunday but the Lightning have players waiting for prime time. Actually they have two going tomorrow night, too, but who gets the NFL Network?

And the game of the week...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Chair can't buy a break this year. They were in the top three in scoring last week and ended up with another loss. Matt Schaub is on a bye for the defending champs, but it doesn't really matter. If the Chair scores one million points the 'Bums will end up with one million and three.

Good luck this week!

3FL Notes: S9: Week 9 Preview

We had another MNF comeback and another three digit score last week. And with only five weeks remaining in the regular season, no team is more than one game out of a playoff spot. Things are heating up in the 3FL!

Week 8 Recap

Brett Favre (QB/Min) - 28 points
Chicago Bears Defense - 24 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 23 points

Week 9 Information

Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles
Monday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Denver Broncos
Bye Week: Buffalo, Cleveland, Minnesota, NY Jets, Oakland, St. Louis

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Lightning (-1) vs. Baltimorons
Both of these teams would really like to gain some ground on the leaders of their divisions. One of them will get to add a W to their record. But Coach Thadtotti will have to suffer through a Monday night Steelers game against an opposing RB.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Brewers won last week despite having all of their stars on a bye. The Preds are in a similar situation this week, with the 3FL's top pick and two WRs enjoying their off week. These two teams have been unpredictable this year - the game could be the Toyota "biggest blowout" or a tie.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Marauders
At 3-5, both of these teams are on the edge of the playoff picture. A win here could be a very important separator in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, Ben Roethlisberger and Skippy Reed control the fate of both teams.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Coach Bev's team has been outstanding so far this year. They have won their last three games and lead the league in points. The 'Bums are looking to regain some momentum after two straight losses. Prime time will rule this matchup, as a combined seven players start their games after 8pm.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Chair can't buy a break this season, but it's unlikely that the Corp will be very sympathetic. Still, it will be fun to watch McNabb and Romo go head to head on Sunday night.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
More than half of the Vipers are playing in the same NFL game. They better hope it's a high scoring affair or the Renegades can definitely steal a win. Whatever happens will be late breaking news - SpiVi doesn't have a player on the field until after the 1pm games are over.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S9: Week 8 Preview

The Stiletto Stompers are back atop the 3FL standings after a stunning Monday night comeback. You'd think that scoring more than 100 points would assure a victory, but you'd be wrong.

Sorry, Comfy Chair.

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 8:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The Stompers are hit hard by byes this week, although they still have Peyton Manning and Maurice Jones-Drew. No WRs though. The Baltimorons need to capitalize on the opportunity if they want to make any headway in the competitive 3FL South.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The 'Fitz have been rolling this year and their only possible stumbling block this week could be McNabb vs. the Giants. The Carolina/Arizona game will be important, with Kurt Warner will putting up a bunch of points for the Renegades. But the waiver wire pickup Cardinals Defense by the Misfits will decide this one.

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Yes, the Beermen have Tom Brady, but he is on a bye this week along with most of the rest of Coach Brew's team. Will they just take a loss or drop some good players to fill in the starting lineup? I guarantee that if the Chair scores 102 points this week they will get a victory.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
We know what will happen. The Preds will score their usual average amount of points and then everyone will wait and see if the Vipers (and half of the New Orleans Saints) can make a comeback on MNF. Don't be surprised if they do.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Marauders
As of right now I have no idea who will win this game. I think whichever coach fills in his lineup with appropriate players will get the nod. Brandon Marshall on the bench? Jeff Reed on a bye but in the starting lineup? Maybe no one wants the win.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
This one is even right down the line of matchups - it should be competitive from Sunday at 1pm all the way through Monday night. Crank up the StatTracker and get ready for a battle. Everyone is going to be tired on Tuesday morning.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S9: Week 7 Preview

Wow. We were about due for a high-flying week and the league delivered. Our 12 teams scored 853 points (the second highest weekly total of all time) and we saw a team and a player write their names in the record books.

The regular season is only half finished. What will we see next?

Week 6 Recap

Player MVPs:
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 43 points‡
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 31 points
Matt Schaub (QB/Hou) - 29 points

*4th highest weekly team total in 3FL history
‡Tied for most weekly individual player points in 3FL history

Week 7 Information

Sunday Night: Arizona Diamondbacks @ New York Yankees
Monday Night: Philadelphia Phillies @ Washington Nationals
Bye Week: Baltimore, Denver, Detroit, Jacksonville, Seattle, Tennessee

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Predacons
What's happening with the Preds? After a great start to the season they have lost three in a row. And the Lightning have been surprising opponents left and right, but it won't be a surprise if they win this week.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. ray ray haw
Both the 'Fitz and the Eagles are looking to rebound from last week's tough losses. This battle should be a good one, but we'll have to wait until McNabb leads Philly on MNF to find out who wins. They play the Redskins, so it should be an easy victory for both of Coach Tim-A's teams. Err...

Stiletto Stompers (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
No shoes on the furniture. The Stompers have been galloping their way to a great first six weeks and they sit atop the 3FL North. They are looking tough this week, but it doesn't hurt that the Chair are starting three WRs that don't even start on their NFL teams.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Both of these teams are better than their records indicate, but the Renegades have had a little more bad luck. It's going to be a tight matchup. Coach Hoss mentioned in his weekly press conference that Jeff Reed will indeed be the starting kicker for the Marauders this week while he and his staff gather evidence about last week's incident.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Steve Smiths get to play against each other this week! Even matchups, even teams and even streaks (although in the opposite direction) make this a great one to watch. If the Vipers were smart they'd pick up whoever runs back kicks for Indianapolis.

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
How interesting - the Brewers scored a ton of points last week but the 'Bums have only lost one game in the past 11 weeks. And they have a combined five players going on MNF. The season's first tie, anyone?

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 15, 2009

3FL Notes: S9: Week 6 Preview

That's why they play the games. The Renegades outscored the rest of the league and defeated the defending champion Dumbbums to earn their first victory. Coach Coaldog's winning streak was stopped at nine games.

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Renegades - 93 points

Player MVPs:
Donovan McNabb (QB/Phi) - 24 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 22 points
Matt Ryan (QB/Atl) - 22 points
Roddy White (WR/Atl) - 22 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 19/30 - 63.33%
League Voting: 16/30 - 53.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 15/30 - 50%

Go vote!

Week 6 Information

Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ Atlanta Falcons
Monday Night: Denver Broncos @ San Diego Chargers
Bye Week: Dallas, Indianapolis, Miami, San Francisco

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

Marauders (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Too close to call. How about this - if Calvin Johnson plays a full game the Marauders will win. If not, the nod goes to the Chair. Either way, each team has two Steelers starting, so maybe we should just sit back and watch the game...

Stiletto Stompers (-1) vs. Predacons
These two teams have been mirroring each other since the beginning of the year. Both won their first three and lost their last two. But the Stompers soft matchups will have them back to their winning ways this week and have the Preds drop to .500.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Wow, what a matchup. Our top two teams in in the standings share the best record in the league and are the top two in points scored as well. Their battle this week will have us waiting until the very end of MNF to see which of the dueling WRs brings home the win for his team.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Baltimorons
The Brewers looked good last week and they'll try to build on that win, but the 'Morons can't afford to start 2-4 in their tough division. Tom Brady tips the scales toward the Brew Crew and should live up to his predicted points. If not it's anyone's game.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The Bolts have been hit or miss so far this year, and this week should be no different. Will LT score 2 TDs or end up with zero points? The Renegades will try to carry last week's momentum into this week, but I think Sunday night in Atlanta will give the Lightning just enough points.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
This father/son matchup will be a close one. And their defenses are playing each other, so that's kind of cool. SpiVi should be able to put up some points and then weather the Sunday night storm for a victory - although Matt Ryan is playing at home, indoors and in prime time...

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S9: Week 5 Preview

The 'Bums stand alone. After a crazy week, only Coach Coaldog's team remains undefeated. His winning streak has reached nine games.

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 97 points

Player MVPs:
New Orleans Saints Defense - 28 points
Rashard Mendenhall (RB/Pit) - 21 points
Phillip Rivers (QB/SD) - 21 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 17/24 - 70.83%
League Voting: 13/24 - 54.17%
Yahoo! Projections: 12/24 - 50%

Go vote! We had all but one team vote on the games last week. Looking for all twelve this week!

Week 5 Information

Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans
Monday Night: New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins
Bye Week: Chicago, Green Bay, New Orleans, San Diego

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

Marauders (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
It appears that Tom Brady no longer has shoulders that can carry an entire fantasy team. But with Roethlisberger going up against Detroit, he just might do that for Coach Hoss.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Earth to the 'Morons. It's tough to pick a favorite when half of your team is on a bye. Still, it would be easier if the Chair's five man bench didn't outscore his entire starting lineup last week. While two of his bench players were on a bye! If Coach Drew doesn't start a full roster I'm changing my prediction...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Coach Bev lost for the first time last week, but she has three players with double digit projected points this week. The Vipers have both Dallas RBs in his starting lineup and four total players in the Dallas/Kansas City game. They'd better hope it's a high scoring affair.

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Renegades
Our only undefeated team takes on our only winless team this week. Plus the 'Bums are on a nine game winning streak and the Renegades have lost five in a row (stretching back to last season). You may think this one is already over, but the Renegades are going to put up a fight. Can Coach Coaldog hold off a prime time comeback?

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Predacons
The Preds had six players on a bye this week, which doesn't add up to a full starting roster. The haw have some favorable matchups and no one on a bye - they just needs to choose who will play and whose points will be left on the bench.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Lightning
What a great battle between two 3-1 teams. The 'Fitz have a slight edge if McNabb is actually all-the-way healthy. It's just a shame that Jay Cutler is on a bye - it would make this matchup even better.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 01, 2009

3FL Notes: S9: Week 4 Preview

Three undefeated teams remain, but not for long - two of them play each other this week. This is also the first of the NFL bye weeks, when coaching and personnel decisions become more important. Someone warn the waiver wire that things are going to get hectic...

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: S.Stompers/Y.Brewers - 75 points

Player MVPs:
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 29 points
Maurice Jones-Drew (RB/Jax) - 24 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 15/18 - 83.33%
League Voting: 11/18 - 61.11%
Yahoo! Projections: 10/18 - 55.56%

Go vote!

Week 4 Information

Sunday Night: San Diego Chargers @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Minnesota Vikings
Bye Week: Arizona, Atlanta, Carolina, Philadelphia

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Both are undefeated but only one can remain so. The 'Bums are riding an eight game winning streak into this weekend, but the Predacons look to have the matchups in their favor. The prime time games will weigh heavily on the outcome.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Coach Bev is 3-0 and atop the 3FL at the moment. The 'Fitz won't make it easy for her to go to 4-0, but the bye week will definitely hit the Corp harder. Plus, there's Willie Parker's toe.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Brew Crew held off a Monday night comeback last week only because they also had players in prime time. Not this time. Of course, Brady is playing the Ravens while Cutler gets the Lions, so this game might be over before MNF even begins.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Neither of these two former champions is off to a great start. And with the bye weeks a factor for both, we'll just have to wait and see which set of backups and newly acquired players pulls his team to .500.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The Marauders have yet to win a game. I'm not sure that changes this week against Drew Brees and the Vipers. The Roethlisberger/Ward/Reed angle on Sunday night will be fun, though.

And the game of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The Renegades have to win a game at some point, so why not this week with a backup QB? Coach Val will put up a bunch of points and then hope that the Steelers don't let the 'Morons mount a comeback. And then hope that Aaron Rodgers throws all of his TDs to Donald Driver.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S9: Week 3 Preview

Injuries are already starting to take a toll on some of our teams as we enter into the final week of the first round of divisional matchups. How is McNabb's rib? Tomlinson's ankle? Peterson's back? Who will fill in and lead your team to victory?

In league news, the Lightning and Predacons have signed up for twitter accounts and have been added to the sidebar. Sign up now and follow @the3FL to join in the conversation!

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: ray ray haw - 90 points

Player MVPs:
Chris Johnson (RB/Ten) - 31 points
Frank Gore (RB/SF) - 23 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 22 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 11/12 - 91.67%
League Voting: 8/12 - 66.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 5/12 - 41.67%

*The Comm-nosticator and the Predacons were both 6/6 in week 2 voting.

We had 8 teams vote on all the games last week. 12 would be better. You have until Sunday @ 12:55pm to vote this week.

Week 3 Information

Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Arizona Cardinals
Monday Night: Carolina Panthers @ Dallas Cowboys
Bye Week: None until next week

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs ray ray haw
The 'Morons are going to be in a tough spot if they get another loss and go 0-3 (0-2 in the division) this week. That shouldn't happen, as Chris Johnson can't have another 30+ point game. Can he?

Lightning (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Lightning are predicted (by Yahoo!) to win big. We know how that goes. But unless Tony Romo gets his act together for a MNF comeback, the big purple Y might be right.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
If I told you at the beginning of the year that when these two teams meet in week 3 the Stompers would be undefeated and leading the division and the Marauders would be winless, you would have laughed at me. That is, however, where we stand. And we may have more of the same...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Coach Coaldog is riding a winning streak that stretches all the way back to the end of last season. His 7 victories in a row puts him in the 3FL record books. The Vipers appear ready to end that streak, but who can pick against it (and the trophy holder) right now?

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Close game? Check. Four combined players on Monday night? Check. Tom Brady finally living up to expectations? We'll see. This is going to be a fun one to watch.

And the game of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Renegades are better than their 0-2 record, and the Preds have been a bit lucky so far. Plus, the 3FL West could use a little evening up. The matchups are so close that either team could win, but you'll have to stay up late on Sunday to find out who does...

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 17, 2009

3FL Notes: S9: Week 2 Preview

Our opening week saw a few injuries and a few surprises. I'm sure a more of both are on the way...

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Stiletto Stompers - 90 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 41 points
Philadelphia Eagles Defense - 29 points
Adrian Peterson (RB/Min) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 5/6 - 83.33%
League Voting: 4/6 - 66.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 3/6 - 50%

You have until Sunday @ 12:55pm to vote this week.

Week 2 Information

Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Miami Dolphins
Bye Week: None until week 4

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Who was that team? After being renamed for '09 the Stompers are off to a quick start - winning the week even with Santonio on the bench. And with Peyton's Colts playing on MNF we just might see a comeback and 2-0 start for Coach Bev.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Sure, the Bolts still have some RB injury issues, but the matchups work out in their favor this week. This one will likely come down to the starting QBs. Is it too soon to demote Cutler? We'll see.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Which QB will live up to the projections? Which WR corps will drop more passes? But most importantly, will Coach Val be able to stay up on Sunday night to see which team's final player brings home the win?

Predacons (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
So that's why the Preds picked Adrian Peterson with the first overall draft selection - and this week he gets to play the Lions. But the Chair raised a few eyebrows with their upset victory in week one and can't be counted out when Tony Romo and the Steelers D are on the field.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
First the trade, then the injury - and now the Corps and the Eagles may have to look elsewhere for some week two help. But Eli isn't a bad backup to have. Still, the Vipers may steal this one if Drew Brees continues tying 3FL records.

And the game of the week...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
These two teams are family rivals, division rivals and former SuperBowl opponents. The slight edge goes to the 'Bums and their six game winning streak. What a great matchup so early in the season - just wait until we see it again in week 12...

Good luck this week.

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

3FL Notes: S9: Week 1 Preview

Can the Dumbbums defend the title? Will a new team name lead to success for Coach Bev? Will anyone else sign up for a twitter account? Only the ninth season of the 3FL will have the answers...

It all starts on Thursday night!
Remember to have your starting lineups set 5 minutes before the games start this week. Any players in the Titans vs. Steelers game will be locked in whichever lineup position you have them at 8:25pm EDT on Thursday.

Special thanks to Coach Thadtotti, the sultan of the spreadsheet, for running the numbers and crafting our customized schedule. Each team plays its division rivals twice and everyone else once, and we have special rivalry matchups during week 10. Division winners will receive top playoff seeds so inter-division play is very important.

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: Tennessee Titans @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night Early: Buffalo Bills @ New England Patriots
Monday Night Late: San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
A good matchup with a twist - no Sunday night or Monday night games. We'll know the result on Sunday at around 7:30pm. The 'Bums have the slightest edge, maybe just because they hold the coveted 3FL trophy.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Even the return of Tom Brady won't help the Brewers beat SpiVi this week. Well, actually it might, but the WRs and RBs should be the difference.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
This game in intriguing because of the matchups, but both teams will have to stay up late on Monday night to find out who wins. Maybe the Yahoo! predicted tie isn't far from reality.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Only the indecision about Pierre Thomas is stopping the Lightning from a good chance at a win this week. It will be fun to watch these two put on a WR show on Monday night, though. Don't assume anything until the Bills and Pats are finished.

Renegades (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
A 15 point favorite in week one? Unheard of. But the Renegades are hyped to get back into the playoffs after last year's underachievement.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This one was iffy until the 'Fitz got their franchise QB back. Actually, it's still iffy, but Monday night should put McNabb's new team ahead for good.

Good Luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 9!

3FL Notes: 2009 Draft Analysis

A majority of owners were in attendance and I think everyone had a good time during our online draft. I wish we could keep a transcript of the chat room in the draft application. Anyway, here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. Predacons: Adrian Peterson was the obvious first pick. The rest of the team is filled in nicely and they made Brian St. Pierre the final choice in the draft, so here's to tradition. Grade: B+

2. Marauders: Coach Hoss has to watch Big Ben as a fan and a fantasy coach, so it's a good thing he has some good RBs and WRs. His bench has a lot of upside but not a lot of experience. Whatever that means. Grade: B

3. Misfits, Inc.: OMG. No McNabb. No Eagles at all, actually. The Misfits went a little haywire this year, but I heard a rumor that a trade is already in the works. Relax, people. Grade: B+

4. The Comfy Chair: At least one top quality player at each position will keep the Chair competitive this year. The Steelers Defense doesn't hurt either. But let's hope no one gets injured... Grade: B+

5. Yuengling Brewers: The Brewers stopped in but logged off just before the draft started. It's probably better that way. This team is pretty good, especially if Crabtree actually signs a contract.
Grade: A-

6. Stiletto Stompers: The former Rough Riders are looking to change their momentum and this name change is a start. I wasn't sure during the draft who exactly was picking the players at any given time, but Peyton Manning and MoJo Drew could make the Stompers a contender. Grade: A-

7. Dumbbums: Working third shift doesn't always allow for attendance at a fantasy football draft. Still, the 'Bums are stacked at RB and will be stacked at WR depending on Brandon Marshall's status. Grade: B+

8. Baltimorons: Coach Drew came in with a sound strategy and it paid off. This team flew a little under the radar and are sneaky good. Grade: A-

9. Spiked Vipers: SpiVi didn't pick a defense until round seven this year, so that allowed for a lot more offensive talent to be stockpiled in the early rounds. Brees will win a few games by himself.
Grade: B+

10. Lightning: No spreadsheets this year, but the Lightning managed a decent draft anyway. They're relying heavily on the Packers' special teams and defense to have a good year, but having T.O. and Randy Moss on the same team can't be bad. Grade: B+

11. ray ray haw: A great duo of RBs and a top tier defense will make the haw a force to be reckoned with this year. Steve Breaston caught over 1,000 yards of passes last season and he's on the bench. Grade: A-

12. Renegades: The Renegades actually turned in a quality squad for 2009 being that they had the last pick. And they used every available second on on the draft clock to do it. Grade: B+

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions early in the week. Stay tuned.

Draft Day

Don't forget - our live online draft starts tonight at 9:00pm EDT.

Make sure you run a test on your computer to make sure you have the necessary plug-ins installed. Just go to our league homepage and click "test your system" at any point before the draft.

Also, try to arrive and sign in a little early - the draft will start right on time.

If you are unable to be online tonight, make sure you set up your pre-rankings prior to 8:00pm. The draft will be just like the old autopick style for you. In fact, even if you will be online it might be a good idea to set your pre-rankings anyway. You know, just in case there is a thunderstorm or something happens to your internet connection right when your turn comes up.

And don't forget to sign your team (or you) up on Twitter and follow @the3FL. A feed is coming to the sidebar of this blog soon.

Good luck!

The Votes Are In

The coaches have all cast their ballots and the results have been tallied. It seem that we'll have two changes to the 3FL for the 2009 season.

The league has voted to form four divisions of three teams each, with the division winners being awarded the top seeds in the playoffs. Each team will play the other teams in their division twice and all other teams once this season. It should make for some fun rivalries!

The other two ballot questions have upheld the status quo - eight teams will make the playoffs and waivers will be awarded on a weekly rolling basis (in reverse order of the standings).

After some discussions with the steering committee, it has been determined that the divisions will be calculated by the overall records for all teams since the 2003 season (our first season with Coach Skrabby). Teams will be ranked based on win percentage and then counted off, with teams 1, 5, and 9 making up the first divison, and so on. I'll post these later tonight - as soon as the numbers are crunched.

Any and all suggestions for division names are now being accepted. We could just go with North, South, East, and West, or if someone has another idea please post a comment on this entry. We can discuss during tonight's draft.

75 Percent Off

I just received exciting news for the upcoming season. Yahoo! has decided to offer StatTracker for free! This means the price of a Plus league has dropped considerably. In fact, we'll only have to pay $3 per team for 2009 (a 75% savings over previous years).

Don't worry - we'll still have everything you're used to, including a free year for the winner and in-depth stats and research. In fact, a few new features have been added. I'll soon be sending out an official ballot email to all coaches so we can vote on which new options to include this season.

Also new this year - preseason mock drafts. It's not too early to start researching!

4. The Comfy Chair
5. Yuengling Brewers
