The 3FL: Our First Decade

Can you believe we began our inaugural season all the way back in the fall of 2001? We've come a long way since those tumultuous times. Let's have a look...

In our first decade we played 918 games over 163 football weeks. We have had 13 different coaches managing 28 differently named teams (not counting spelling changes), and 7 of those coaches have their names etched on the championship trophy.

Our teams have scored 110,322 total points, with 95,327 of those coming during the regular season.

On average the league scored 716.74 points per week during the regular season, for an average of 119.46 points per game (59.73 points per team per week). In the postseason those numbers rise to 124.96 points per game (62.48 points per team per playoff week).

We started out with an autopick draft for the first five seasons and then changed to our current live online format in 2006. A draft pick record study shows us the best and worst places in the draft order over our first decade.

Draft Pick - Win Percentage
6   -   .579
10   -   .553
2   -   .526
3   -   .515
5   -   .508
9   -   .504
7   -   .492
8   -   .485
12   -   .477
1   -   .462
11   -   .450
4   -   .432

Three draft pick numbers have never won the SuperBowl - #1, #8 and #11. In fact, picks #8 & #11 have never even played for the championship. As far as managers go, everyone but Coach Thadtotti has played in the big game.

For all of our superlatives please visit the updated 3FL Records page. A new category this year is most/least points by one team during a playoff run.

If you are interested in any other stats please let me know.

Here's to a great second decade!

3FL•X Champion!

The curse has been broken!

Congratulations to ray ray haw on winning their third 3FL SuperBowl. It's Coach Haw's first championship since winning in both of our first two years.

Stay tuned later in the week for final stats and the 2010 season wrap-up.

Thanks to everyone for a great season!

3FL Notes: S10: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

If you didn't stay up until the very end of MNF then shame on you until training camp starts. The haw was feeling the full brunt of the curse and trailing by five points with just over ten minutes to go. And then somehow the Bears D forced three turnovers - the last one with only :39 seconds left in the game - to give them a one point victory.

Meanwhile Misfits, Inc. was off to a rocky start until Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson combined for 32 fantasy points in the final 7:28 of their game against the Giants.

There is a lesson in all of this; don't go to sleep. You never know what can happen in the 3FL, especially during the playoffs.

SuperBowl week is finally here!! Who will be receiving a late Christmas present? We'll have to watch and see.

Sunday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Philadelphia Eagles
Monday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons

Here we go...SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#5 Stiletto Stompers vs. #6 Lightning
Every year we have one unlucky team that ends up a lot lower in the standings after the playoffs than when they started. Both of these teams fall into that category, with the high hopes of week 14 giving way to the possibility of ending up eighth and carrying a three (or four) game losing streak into next season. Come see the Josh Freeman vs. Jason Campbell show!

For 5th Place:
#7 Predacons vs. #8 Baltimorons
This is actually going to be a really good game. It's almost a shame that it only crowns the winner of the consolation bracket. Still, with players in every game throughout the week it will be a back and forth battle that comes down to Monday night. Either way, both of these teams will end the season higher than they started in the playoffs.

For 3rd Place:
#2 The Comfy Chair vs. #4 Renegades
I still don't believe what happened on Monday night. I thought it was all over when Percy Harvin caught a TD against the Bears Defense on the first drive. But somehow the haw clawed back and put the Renegades here, against the unlucky Chair. Can Coach Val take another MNF comeback, this time from a WR and a K? I think she'll be OK. She has a wedding to plan.

3FL SuperBowl X
#1 ray ray haw vs. #3 Misfits, Inc.
Here it is! A great matchup deserving of our tenth SuperBowl. Can you believe we've played a decade of fantasy football?

We all know the storyline here - it's Brady against Vick, the two top scoring QBs in the league. But don't rule out a lesser known player coming up big and claiming the trophy for his coach. Will it be one of the haw's elite RBs? Or one of the Corporation's high flying WRs? Or someone out of the blue? It all comes down to this!

Can the haw break the curse and win their third title? Or will Misfits, Inc. engrave their name on the trophy for the first time? Don't forget to stay up for Monday Night Football. It should be a great one - and the 3FL title awaits!

Happy Festivus, Merry Christmas and good luck this week.

Thanks to all for another fun season!

3FL Notes: S10: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

What just happened? All four top seeds held serve and advanced to the second round during our lowest scoring playoff week of all time. Other playoff records were posted as well (but not any of the good ones). Will we see more of the same this week? Or is someone about to shake up the party?

All individual team pages and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2010 regular season. This year's additions to the records page are in bold. Playoff records now include last week's misery.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: ray ray haw - 74 points

Player MVPs:
Pittsburgh Steelers Defense - 25 points
Michael Turner (RB/Atl) - 23 points

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ San Diego Chargers
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ New England Patriots
Monday Night: Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl X, losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 ray ray haw vs. #4 Renegades
This is a mismatch if there ever was one. The #1 seeded, top scoring haw rolled into the semis by outscoring everyone else in the league last week. The Renegades somehow got here even though they tied for the fifth lowest team score ever in a playoff game. Plus their starting QB is concussed and their backup had an appendectomy a week and a half ago. But think about this - the last time Coach Val was a 20+ point playoff underdog she won the SuperBowl.

#3 Misfits, Inc. vs. #2 The Comfy Chair
FitzCorp is the only team of our final four that doesn't already have its name on the coveted trophy. This, however, does not concern the other three. The Chair squeaked through to the second round by holding off the Predacons in OT on Monday night, but this game will go in the opposite order. All of the Misfits will be finished after the 1pm games on Sunday. That leaves four pieces of furniture left to mount a comeback and put the Chair back into the big game. I hope everyone is OK staying up late on Sunday night to see what happens!

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#5 Stiletto Stompers vs #8 Baltimorons
The Stompers were the second highest scoring team in the league this year. They actually averaged the fourth most points per week in the history of the 3FL. And then the playoffs happened, and Coach Bev's team posted the lowest point total EVER by a team in a playoff week. And now they are the underdog to the last seeded 'Morons. It just goes to show that anything is possible in the 3FL...

#6 Lightning vs. #7 Predacons
Remember after week eight when these teams were #1 and #2 in the league? This would have been a better game to watch in week nine rather than here in the consolation bracket. It looks like this will be a good matchup, though, and we know one thing for sure - the Predacons highest scoring players will most likely be on the bench. It will all come down to MNF to decide the winner. The battle for fifth place is on!

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl is one win away!

Thursday, December 09, 2010

3FL Notes: S10: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

Well, the last week of our regular season had a bit of drama. The haw's win vaulted them to the top of the standings, giving them the best record and highest point total in the league. And also the curse. Here come the playoffs!

Three wins in a row wins it all!

There are two things to remember:

First, everyone who qualified for the playoffs will play in each of the next three weeks. Make sure you have a lineup set from now through the end of week 16.

Second, and more importantly, ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 1pm THIS SUNDAY, December 12th. You will not be able to add/drop after this time. Make sure your team is ready for the playoffs before then.

And don't forget that all remaining weeks start with a Thursday Night NFL game.

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: ray ray haw - 98 points

Player MVPs:
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 30 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 24 points
Michael Vick (QB/Phi) - 24 points
Adrian Peterson (RB/Min) - 23 points

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Houston Texans

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 ray ray haw vs. #8 Baltimorons
The haw won SuperBowls I and II. The 'Morons won SuperBowls IV and VI. One of them will not make it past the first round this year. Will our tenth season finally see a top seed break the curse? It's possible, especially if Tom Brady keeps putting up 30 points each week. This one won't be any clearer until late on Sunday - a combined ten players don't start until after the 1pm games, with three of those waiting until Monday night.

#2 The Comfy Chair vs. #7 Predacons
These two clashed during rivalry week and the Preds pulled out a unlikely victory. In fact, many of their victories have been as the underdog. Can they keep it up? Or will they be exposed in the playoffs as a team that has just been lucky all year? The matchups favor the Chair by a heavy amount and will probably be the difference. But we'll just have to wait and see if the Predacons have any MNF magic left.

#3 Misfits, Inc. vs. #6 Lightning
The battle of the brothers-in-law is going to be an entertaining one. Set your alarms for Sunday night because that's likely when the winner will be decided. FitzCorp still has Ray Rice set for MNF, but will he end up on the bench with the win already assured? Key to the game might be the QB situation for the Bolts; It's rumored that Josh Freeman will get the start for the first time all year.

#4 Renegades vs. #5 Stiletto Stompers
Twins! Rivals! Here we go! The Stompers sealed a rivalry week win against Renengaged with a dramatic comeback on Monday night. They have the same two players on Sunday night this time around, but Coach Val's kicker plays on Monday night. Will the story be reversed this time around? It should be the best game of the quarterfinal round.

Good luck this week. The trophy awaits!

Thursday, December 02, 2010

3FL Notes: S10: Week 13 Preview

With a victory last week, the Renegades have claimed the final playoff spot (and #4 seed). So you think there will be very little drama in our final week of the regular season? Just wait - with all but one of the seedings up for grabs and division titles still undecided things are bound to get interesting.

Will the Stompers keep stomping? Who will win the top spot and attempt to break the curse? We'll find out for sure late Monday night!

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Stiletto Stompers - 111 points

Player MVPs:
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 30 points
Peyton Hillis (RB/Cle) - 27 points
Dwayne Bowe (WR/KC) - 26 points

Week 13 Information

Thursday Night: Houston Texans @ Philadelphia Eagles
Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Baltimore Ravens
Monday Night: New York Jets @ New England Patriots

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Dumbbums
The Brewers couldn't complete the comeback last week and failed to stay alive for the playoffs. They play the also eliminated 'Bums this week in a divisional battle of who loses last. The Brewers can't possibly get zero RB points again this week, right? I mean, Chris Johnson was the #1 overall pick!

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Predacons
This one is all about Thursday night and Sunday night. Both teams will have their most important players going unwatched on the NFL Network tonight and then a combined three more will make a final appeal on MNF. With all three members of the 3FL West moving on to the playoffs we'll likely see another intra-divisional battle again soon.

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Marauders
The haw are looking to clinch the division and earn a top three seed with a victory against the hard luck Marauders this week. It should be relatively painless, but Coach Hoss has led his team to victory in two straight games so nothing is for sure. Seems like the Marauders are having a little fun being the spoiler and handing out losses.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Just two weeks ago the Stompers were in last place in the 3FL West. Now they are holding on to the top spot in the entire league. But is that a good place to be going into the postseason? Our track record says no, but maybe 3FL•X will be the year the curse is broken. This game (and my pick) all comes down to Adrian Peterson. If he plays then Coach Bev wins. If not, she may get to avoid the curse.

Renegades (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
With a playoff spot clinched, it's possible that the Renegades are looking past SpiVi to next week. Can you blame them? They have the fourth seed locked up even with a loss and a losing record for the regular season. Maybe we'll see another tie. That would be fun, and Coach GooMoo is just the team to make it happen.

And the game of the week...

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The 3FL South is on the line as these two battle for the division title and it's going to be a good one. Can Peyton Manning return to glory for the comfy ones even though everyone he knows is injured? Will Andre Johnson tear off someone's helmet and beat them about the head and neck? But most importantly, will Mike Wallace catch a 68 yard TD pass on Sunday night to vault the Chair to victory?

Good luck this week!

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

3FL Notes: S10: Week 12 Preview

You want parity? How about seven 3FL teams with exactly seven wins after eleven weeks of football. All three members of the 3FL West are 7-4. And all of the seven win teams have clinched a playoff spot.

We have two weeks of regular season matchups left to determine the last team to qualify for the postseason and to shake out the seedings. Let's start by watching a few Thursday afternoon games and eating some turkey...

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: ray ray haw - 88 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 31 points
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit) - 31 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 27 points
Philip Rivers (QB/SD) - 26 points

The league scored 847 points in week 11, our fourth highest total of all time.

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 38/66 - 57.58%
League Voting: 39/66 - 59.09%
Yahoo! Projections: 39/66 - 59.09%

The voting deadline is before the first game starts at 12:30pm on THANKSGIVING! Go vote!!

Week 12 Information

Thanksgiving Early: New England Patriots @ Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving Late: New Orleans Saints @ Dallas Cowboys
Thanksgiving Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Jets
Sunday Night: San Diego Chargers @ Indianapolis Colts
Monday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ Arizona Cardinals

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
It's a shame that our current #1 vs. #2 bout looks to be so lopsided. The matchups are really favoring the haw this week, but don't be too excited. Tom Brady is listed as questionable for today's game. Hahahahahaha. Yeah, we'll see about that. Sorry, Chair. This one will look a lot more even in the playoffs.

Lightning (-1) vs. Marauders
I told you Coach Hoss wasn't going to let his record stop him from having a little spoiler fun. After nine winless weeks in a row the Marauders took out a little frustration on the 'Morons last week and they'll be gunning for another playoff bound team in this one. We'll know a lot more about this game after their combined six players go on turkey day.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds look to start off strong with one player in each of the Thanksgiving day games. But the Brew Crew needs a win here or they could be out of playoff contention. They are looking for a prime time comeback and they just might get one with two of their best playing under the lights.

Renegades (-1) vs. Dumbbums
Can the Renegades handle another week of crossing their fingers on Monday night? It seems like they have been on both sides of huge comebacks and near misses more than their fair share this year. This one should be over before then and they might even clinch the final postseason spot (with a Brewers loss), but I'm thinking that the 'Bums are ready to have a little MNF fun.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
What is going on with the 'Morons? One week they score 100 points and lead the league, and a few weeks later they score the lowest total in the league by more than 20 points. The Vipers may end up with a tie (for obvious reasons) but I'll bet they're going for the win against a divisional foe.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
What a game this will be. The victor will just about clinch our mirror division and get a top three slot in the playoffs. The Phi/Chi game on Sunday afternoon will likely tell the story, with two players from each side starting for the Eagles. But nothing is secure until FitzCorp plays their final two on Sunday night.

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week!

Thursday, November 18, 2010

3FL Notes: S10: Week 11 Preview

Wow.

Thanks to Michael Vick's record breaking performance the league had its highest scoring week of the year. In fact, #7 and his Eagles teammates were the source of two incredible double digit comebacks.

Also, the 3FL West pulled off a different kind of trifecta last week - all three teams combined to earn a win against a team in each other division.

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 93 points

Player MVPs:
Michael Vick (QB/Phi) - 46 points
Matt Cassel (QB/KC) - 31 points
Kyle Orton (QB/Den) - 29 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 35/60 - 58.33%
League Voting: 37/60 - 61.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 36/60 - 60%

The voting deadline for this week is before the THURSDAY night game! Go vote!!

Week 11 Information

Thursday Night: Chicago Bears @ Miami Dolphins
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles
Monday Night: Denver Broncos @ San Diego Chargers
Bye Weeks: Finished for the season

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 11:

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The battle for supremacy in the 3FL North rests heavily on this head-to-head matchup. The haw have more points and the Bolts have more wins, but a rrh win would keep them undefeated in intra-divisional play and give them a leg up in the division. I'll bet Coach Haw won't sit Tom Brady this week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Dumbbums
Did you see last week's game from the Corp? Do the same but with Sunday night replacing Monday night. Michael Vick won't score 40+ points again, but even the best of the 'Bums probably won't be able to take down the corporate giant. Then again, maybe it's Big Ben's turn to break a record this week.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
If you live by the ridiculous comeback, you just might die by the ridiculous comeback. And then have your K cut from his team. Just ask the Renegades. They'll try to put the pieces back together against the "set our team lineup 30 minutes before the game" Brewers. Odds are only one of these two will make the playoffs. Which one gets a head start with a win?

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
This looks like it will be a one-sided affair, but don't be fooled. The Vipers aren't looking for another tie and they have the personnel to win this one. Especially if the injured pieces of furniture end up not being able to play at all. That will change my pick, too.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This one just might end up as a tie, but who can pick against the 'Morons? They have won three in a row and just leapfrogged the Chair to take the top spot in the 3FL South. Meanwhile the unlucky Marauders are winless in their last nine games. The postseason is out of reach for Coach Hoss, but that doesn't mean he can't have a little fun being a spoiler.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Did you know that the Stompers are now the highest scoring team in the league? And yet they are in last place in the highly competitive 3FL West. Not for long. It's looking more and more likely that all three teams in this division are going to make the playoffs, but this game will go far in determining which seed each will be.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 11, 2010

3FL Notes: S10: Week 10 Preview

The Chair is back atop the league and five teams are now 6-3 after our first nine weeks. Jockeying for playoff positions is officially underway! Also, this week is rivalry week so things are going to be even more interesting than usual.

Thursday games on the NFL Network begin this week and run for the rest of our season, so make sure you have your players set for those games before they start. And make sure you vote on the 3FL games before then too!

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: ray ray haw - 102 points

Player MVPs:
Green Bay Packers Defense - 28 points
Philip Rivers (QB/SD) - 27 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 25 points

Week 10 Information

Thursday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Atlanta Falcons
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Redskins
Bye Week: Green Bay, New Orleans, Oakland, San Diego

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 10:

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The comfortable ones are back in first place after a week away from the top. With our history, though, that might not be a great place to be sitting four weeks from now. Last week the Preds finally made all the right coaching decisions for the first time this season. And lost. Who will make the right calls in this one? We do know that this battle will go end to end, as both teams have at least one player going in each NFL time slot.

Stiletto Stompers (-1) vs. Renegades
The Renegades finished up an incredible comeback on MNF last week but don't look for a repeat. Matt Cassel at QB and a couple of waiver wire RBs (because of the final MNF bye weeks of the year) are going to make things difficult. Plus Coach Bev's team looks poised for another high flying score in this year's twin billing. And with two players on Monday night maybe the comeback tables will be turned.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Marauders
As if a 1-7-1 team needs a smack in the face, the Marauders have four bye week players to deal with in this game. And then they'll have to watch Vick and DJax put things out of reach for FitzCorp on MNF. But don't feel too bad for Coach Hoss - as of right now he is #1 out of 32 entries in our NFL Pick'em.

Lightning (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
Like Hines Ward says - when you have two rivals playing each other you can throw out the records. Regardless of the standings this is going to be a great one to watch, and not just because of all the amusing smack talk leading up to the game. If only the Vipers had Drew Brees this week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Our dim-witted rivalry week matchup could possibly be our best. These teams stack up evenly in all facets of the game and it will come down to Big Ben's performance on Sunday night to decide the outcome. Plus, the Baltimorons are playing against the Baltimore defense on Thursday. What else could you ask for during rivalry week?

And the game of the week...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
This has been one of the more enjoyable 3FL rivalries to watch in the past and it looks like the fun will continue. It will require a bit of paying attention to even out the matchups, but it should be a good one. Now if everyone could just get access to the NFL Network (and stay up that late) we could watch the combined six players from these two teams start things off.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S10: Week 9 Preview

Are you kidding me? Another Spiked Vipers tie highlighted an exciting week. We saw our first century mark score, a MNF stalemate and plenty of upsets to go around.

Plus, the 3FL West completed the trifecta last week, going undefeated against the 3FL East. They've now scored a perfect week against every other division in the league.

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 100 points

Player MVPs:
Matthew Stafford (QB/Det) - 28 points
Calvin Johnson (WR/Det) - 23 points
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defense - 20 points

Week 9 Information

Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals
Bye Week: Denver, Jacksonville, San Francisco, St. Louis, Tennessee, Washington

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The Stompers are going to be hit hard by the bye - five of their players are off this week. But don't give the 'Bums that second win yet. We'll have to see what Coach Bev conjures up before the weekend. A stomping might still be on.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds are going to run out of luck at some point, right? Probably this week. All of their players are done on Sunday afternoon and they'll have to watch four of the best of the Renegades storm back. Jeff Reed will seal the deal with a kick on MNF and stop the streak of luck at four games.

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Vipers aren't going to end up with another tie this week. The haw will see to that. Brady against the Browns is just one of the great matchups rrh get to have fun with. Just in case we need it, though, you should know that Coach GooMoo is riding the longest tie streak in the history of the league.

Misfits (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
If both of the remaining FitzCorp Eagles are really back from their injuries then the Corporation should pick up another win this week. If not then we're in for a game. The Brew Crew needs to try to stay at the top of their division, so don't look for them (or Hines Ward) to pull up on Monday night.

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Marauders
The Marauders probably need to win out the season in order to have a chance at the playoffs. But they have to start the process with one win this week. A good first step might be starting a lineup of players with an actual game. But against Peyton they'll need some luck, too.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Here's our comeback of the week. The Bolts will be down a bunch going into the final game of the week but they'll have a good chance of pulling out a win. Of course that depends on which of the stockpile of 'Moron's QBs scores the most (and if he is in the starting lineup or not). And if Carson Palmer and the Steelers don't take away too many of each other's points.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 28, 2010

3FL Notes: S10: Week 8 Preview

Another tie! The Vipers were down 17 points going into MNF but clawed back for the tie with only 40 seconds remaining in the game (thanks to a Jon Kitna TD against the Brewers Defense).

Also this week, the two top scoring players in the league were sitting on a 3FL team's bench instead of contributing to a win. And the third was sitting on the waiver wire.

Week 7 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: ray ray haw - 98 points

Player MVPs:
Carson Palmer (QB/Cin) - 26 points
Eli Manning (QB/NYG) - 24 points
Roddy White (WR/Atl) - 22 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 25/42 - 59.52%
League Voting: 26/42 - 61.90%
Yahoo! Projections: 24/42 - 57.14%

Go vote! On all 6 games!

Week 8 Information

Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ New Orleans Saints
Monday Night: Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts
Bye Week: Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, NY Giants, Philadelphia

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 8:

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Someone will double their win total this week. The Marauders look good on paper (if they pencil in a starting QB) but are a defeat away from making it to the 3FL Records page with seven losses in a row. The Vipers earned another tie last week but are putting a lot of pressure on the Saints against the Steelers. Will they get a trick or a treat on Sunday night? (Sorry, I had to do it...)

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
It's possible that Tony Romo won't play again this season. Is Kyle Orton the answer for the Stompers? Only if he can figure out how they can outscore everyone in their division and still end up at the bottom of it. As for the Brewers, last week their bench outscored their starters by 16 points (and two bench players had none). Missing out on a Defense this week could be even worse. And change my vote.

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Lighting
This great matchup of two of the top scoring teams in the league won't disappoint. It has four (like you need any more) reasons to watch football on Halloween night. But you must stay up to watch on Monday night, too. The Chair will attempt to rearrange the score while the Bolts can only hope Peyton ate too many fun size candy bars.

ray ray haw (-2) vs. Baltimorons
Speaking of rearranging, the 'Morons need to do some. A lot, actually. Bye week issues, QB issues and injury issues have left their lineup in shambles for the time being. I'm sure things will look better by Sunday, but maybe not. The haw have a bunch of starters on a bye, too, but it's harder to notice.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Could this be our third tie of the year? The 'Bums have played well since the return of their suspended QB, but the Preds have been defying odds (and logic) for a majority of the season. The results will wait until Monday night when Matt Schaub tries to lead another comeback for Coach Sinkerbeam. It's starting to look like MNF is a pretty important game for the league this week...

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Renegades
It's the Eagles' bye week so you know what that means - an underpowered FitzCorp. But their waiver wire pick ups seem to fill in better than you might think. They'll be playing from behind on Monday night, but they'll have the slightest of edges because Team Renengaged (get it?) has their QB playing their own Defense. The final score will have to wait until November.

Birthday wishes go out to Coach Haw and Coach Jules this week. Their present is being favored by the Comm-nosticator in this weekend's games. :)

Happy Halloween! And good luck this week.

Thursday, October 21, 2010

3FL Notes: S10: Week 7 Preview

The 'Bums halted their losing streak in convincing fashion by scoring the most points in the league last week. And the 3FL West went undefeated for the second week in a row, this time against the powerhouse 3FL North.

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 75 points

Player MVPs:
Kevin Kolb (QB/Phi) - 22 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 21 points
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit) - 21 points
Jeremy Maclin (WR/Phi) - 19 points
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 19 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 21/36 - 58.33%
League Voting: 22/36 - 61.11%
Yahoo! Projections: 21/36 - 58.33%

The Comfy Chair and Dumbbums were 6/6 in week 6 voting.

Week 7 Information

Sunday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night: New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
Bye Week: Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, New York Jets

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Four 'Morons are on a bye this week so things are looking a bit thin for them. And four Renegades play in the primetime games. So I'm thinking a comeback is already in the works. And just so everyone knows that picking up a player from waivers is only half the battle. Putting him in your lineup is the other (and most important) half.

Lightning (-1) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The 'Bolts went through a cold front last week but should rebound against the concussed FitzCorp this week. Still, it will be anyone's game until they turn out the lights in Dallas on Monday night. As long as the Corporation picks up a third WR (whether or not he is named Mike Williams).

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
With the Saints playing Cleveland at home this week, things might be ripe for the Vipers to finally break out as a team. Meanwhile the Brewers have been tied to the fate of Chris Johnson and will be again. But this week will all come down to a 2 vs. 2 battle on Monday night. Should be a good one.

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
All signs point to a haw victory, but I'm not so sure. With Arian Foster and Pierre Garcon on a bye this might be a perfect week for the Stompers to steal a win. If they do it will be thanks to an Adrian Peterson comeback on Sunday night.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The first place and highest scoring team in the 3FL is playing the last place and (almost) lowest scoring team this week. So why are the 'Bums favored in this one? Collie, Tomlinson and Peyton Manning are on a bye, that's why. If it's not this week then it's never.

And the game of the week...

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The Marauders are reeling after losing five in a row after a win in week one. They'll have to start a streak in the other direction (and soon) to have any shot at making the playoffs. This could be the week Coach Hoss turns things around since the Preds might not know what to do when they're not a double digit underdog.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 14, 2010

3FL Notes: S10: Week 6 Preview

Last week saw our first Monday night comeback and a bye-week fill-in outscore the rest of the league. Plus the 3FL West was 3-0 against the 3FL South.

And the 'Bums are still without a win after the first five weeks of the season. Big Ben is back on the field this week as Coach Coaldog looks to stop his regular season losing streak before it hits eight games.

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 82 points

Player MVPs:
Shaun Hill (QB/Det) - 22 points
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 20 points
Atlanta Falcons Defense - 19 points
Eli Manning (QB/NYG) - 19 points
Ray Rice (RB/Bal) - 19 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 20/30 - 66.67%
League Voting: 19/30 - 63.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 20/30 - 66.67%

Week 6 Information

Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Washington Redskins
Monday Night: Tennessee Titans @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Bye Week: Arizona, Buffalo, Carolina, Cincinnati

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
In this battle of the unfortunate divisional situations, each of these teams has scored over 300 points but is in last place in their respective division. That problem will get worse for one of them after this even matchup. Can a newly acquired Donovan McNabb be the difference?

Lightning (-1) vs. Predacons
Despite being a heavy underdog last week, the Preds somehow pulled out a miraculous MNF comeback after making every wrong decision with their lineup. That won't happen again this week as the 'Bolts should win with defense. The Steelers are facing the Browns in Colt McCoy's first start in the NFL. Ouch.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Someone alert the Brew Crew that they have a good chance to win this game if they put a WR into the lineup. Unless you're a 'Morons fan. Then by all means don't. They'll need all the help they can get with LeGarrette Blount getting the start at RB.

The Comfy Chair (-2) vs. Renegades
The Renegades are going to pick up a kicker, right? Ahh, whatever. It's not going to matter anyway, especially with their best player currently undergoing neurological tests. And after last week's low scoring debacle the Chair are poised for a big game.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The Kolb/Vick situation is as difficult for the fans of FitzCorp as it is for fans of the Eagles. It's even worse if you are a fan of both. But the haw aren't worried about that - they might have a QB dilemma of their own after Shaun Hill's amazing bye week plug in performance (just kidding, Tom Brady). This one all comes down to Sunday night when the Misfits go for a comeback.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
With a combined record of 1-8-1, the good news is that one of these two will pick up a win after this game. Roethlisberger is back for the 'Bums but that might not be enough to stop their losing streak. Especially if the Vipers find someone to play RB.

Good luck this week.

Friday, October 08, 2010

3FL Notes: S10: Week 5 Preview

Congratulations go out to the Yuengling Brewers organization as they welcomed a new addition this week! Maybe baby Sarah can remind them to play a Defense that is not on a bye.

One year ago the Dumbbums were the 4-0 and the only undefeated team in the league. This year is exactly the opposite. They are 0-4 and have lost 6 regular season games in a row. What is going on around here?

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: The Comfy Chair - 94 points

Player MVPs:
San Diego Chargers Defense - 27 points
Arian Foster (RB/Hou) - 20 points
Antonio Gates (TE/SD) - 19 points
LaDanian Tomlinson (RB/NYJ) - 19 points

League Voting: 16/24 - 66.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 16/24 - 66.67%

Go vote! For more than just your own game!

Week 5 Information

Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ San Francisco 49ers
Monday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ New York Jets
Bye Week: Miami, New England, Pittsburgh, Seattle

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Will Matthew Stafford make his 3FL debut? Will a new baby refocus the Brewers or just leave them sleep deprived? Coach Brew forgot to start a Defense last game, but they might actually win without one this week.

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Misfits, Inc.
FitzCorp is lucky this matchup didn't happen last weekend; they would've lost by 68 points. But that is why they play the games. Kevin Kolb isn't anyone's choice for QB, but can he lead the underdog against the highest scoring piece of furniture in the league?

Spiked Vipers (-2) vs. Predacons
The Preds have somehow ended up with a .500 record while being the second lowest scoring team in the league. They'll fall below that percentage this week as all of the matchups favor the Saints-heavy Vipers.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Renegades
A great game in the making. This one will be a high scoring affair that could go either way, but only because Tom Brady is on a bye this week. Don't count out a Renegades MNF comeback. Even on a school night.

Lightning (-2) vs. Dumbbums
The Bolts keep piling up points and they are a 22 point favorite this week - just what the 'Bums don't need. Another loss by Coach Coaldog's team will put them in the record books with seven losses in a row, exactly one year after making the list with a nine game winning streak.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
What a great matchup. It will be won or lost in prime time, with four of the Stompers stars playing on Sunday or Monday night. If the 'Morons start players who are actually playing it will be even closer.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 30, 2010

3FL Notes: S10: Week 4 Preview

Last week was a high flying one in the 3FL, with more than 800 points scored by the league. And no team is left undefeated after only the third week of the season.

Bye weeks start this week - that should make things even more interesting as we get into the interdivisional middle part of the schedule. The waiver wire is already starting to light up!

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Stiletto Stompers - 98 points

Player MVPs:
Michael Vick (QB/Phi) - 30 points
Anquan Boldin (WR/Bal) - 25 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 11/18 - 61.11%
League Voting: 12/18 - 66.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 11/18 - 61.11%

The Lightning, Misfits, Inc., and ray ray haw were 6/6 in week 3 voting.

Go vote!

Week 4 Information

Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ New York Giants
Monday Night: New England Patriots @ Miami Dolphins
Bye Week: Dallas, Kansas City, Minnesota, Tampa Bay

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

ray ray haw (-2) vs. Dumbbums
The 'Bums are in a heap of trouble if they lose this week and drop to 0-4. And it looks like they'll need a lot of luck to have a chance. The haw may win with just their 2 RBs and Tom Brady.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Lightning
This one will be really close, but it will come down to the WRs to put one team over the top (since we already know the RBs will score at will). If the Brew Crew doesn't start a team Defense, though, I'm switching my vote.

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Both of these teams scored more than 90 points last week, but with Romo, Bowe and Peterson on a bye the Stompers probably won't do that again. The Chair just might.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Just one week ago these two were 2-0 and headed for a matchup of the unbeatens this weekend. Now they are both mired in the middle of the standings and fighting to not drop to .500 on the year. The 'Morons look to have a slight edge, especially if the Preds continue to keep their highest scorers on the bench.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Marauders
There is no reason this one can't end in a tie. A great battle on all fronts, it just feels like the matchups are favoring the Renegades by the slightest of margins. Can you believe that Coach Hoss' team has scored over 200 points in three weeks but is 1-2 and in the basement of their division?

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Sure, the Vipers might win this one, but who knows? They have been snakebit (sorry) this season. First there was the stat correction tie and then two games in a row of playing the top scoring team of the week. Could this be when the defending champs (of the 3FL and NFL) get it together? It's all up to Sunday night. And Michael Vick.

Good luck this week.

Friday, September 24, 2010

3FL Notes: S10: Week 3 Preview

More injuries, more upsets and more high flying action continued in our second week. And the record books have been updated with the latest streak information now that the seven up and seven down are both over.

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 87 points

Player MVPs:
Jahvid Best (RB/Det) - 28 points
Matt Schaub (QB/Hou) - 25 points
LeSean McCoy (RB/Phi) - 24 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 6/12 - 50%
League Voting: 7/12 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 6/12 - 50%

Go vote!

Week 3 Information

Sunday Night: New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins
Monday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears
Bye Week: None until next week

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

Lightning (-1) vs. Renegades
The Bolts are the highest scoring team in the league and are 1-1 right now. Go figure. The Renegades are also 1-1, and they aren't interested in their opponent's previous performances. Still, they'll need all they can get out of Aaron Rodgers to stay in this one.

ray ray haw (-2) vs. Marauders
The 3FL North is a juggernaut this year. A Marauders win would even the whole thing up and make things even more interesting. However, according to Yahoo! the haw are favored by 19 POINTS. And they won't underachieve again this week.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Dumbbums
Chris Johnson should make a triumphant comeback this week for the Brew Crew. That should help a lot. But it will also help that the 'Bums QB situation is a mess. At least they don't have to worry about their WR1 matching up against Darrelle Revis.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The good news is that one of these teams will earn their first win. So there's that. Neither has lived up to expectations in the first two weeks, but the Vipers won't be playing catchup again in this one. All of their players start at 1pm on Sunday.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Predacons
In this last week of the first set of intradivisional games, these two battle for supremacy of the weakest division in the league. The Preds may be 2-0, but the matchups in this one very much favor FitzCorp (who are fresh off their first win in the past eight 3FL weeks). Cue the Michael Vick jokes...

And the game of the week...

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs Baltimorons
It's going to be a great matchup, but unfortunately one of these two will pick up their first loss. Since both teams have players going at every scheduled game time it will be a marathon of competition. Fun to watch, too, and a reason to stay up on Monday night!

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S10: Week 2 Preview

It didn't take long to have our first tie and our first starting RB on the IR. More drama surely awaits in the next 15 weeks.

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: ray ray haw - 80 points

Player MVPs:
Arian Foster (RB/Hou) - 29 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 26 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 23 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 2/6 - 33.33%
League Voting: 3/6 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 2/6 - 33.33%

I told you the first week was the hardest to predict...

Go vote!

Week 2 Information

Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Indianapolis Colts
Monday Night: New Orleans Saints @ San Francisco 49ers
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Each of these teams had a disappointing start to the season. And both scored less than 40 points last week. Lots of E-A-G-L-E-S (and one former e-a-g-l-e) will be on the field to decide who starts out 0-2 in the division.

ray ray haw (-2) vs. Predacons
A 14 point underdog in the second week of the season? The haw outscored everyone in the first set of games and they have a chance to do it again. But Arian Foster and Tom Brady can't put up that many points two weeks in a row. Right?

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Ryan Grant is the first major casualty of the year, but the Renegades aren't in terrible shape without him. They'll put up points and then watch the 'Bums try to make a comeback with their four prime time players. Coach Coaldog's team scored only 28 points last week. When does Roethlisberger come back?

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Chair somehow worked hard enough for a tie last week. That will have playoff ramifications down the road. Meanwhile, the Brewers leaned on first overall pick Chris Johnson to score a surprising victory. Is there another surprise ahead?

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Last week the Vipers ran off to a big lead on Thursday and had to watch the Chair come all the way back (although a tie wasn't confirmed until a stat update in the middle of the week). This week will be the opposite, with 8 of the 9 SpiVis playing in the Sunday or Monday night game. Interesting indeed.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Looks like the 3FL North is going to be quite strong this year. Any of its three teams would have beaten any other team from any other division in week one. The Lightning were unlucky in playing the week's top scorer, but they would have lost to one other team last week, too. The Marauders.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S10: Week 1 Preview

We are only hours away from the beginning of our 10th 3FL season!

Can the Spiked Vipers defend the title and keep the trophy? Will new logos lead to renewed success for Coach Haw and/or Coach Skrabby? Will anyone else sign up for a Twitter account? Only the 3FL•X season will have the answers...

It all starts on Thursday night!
Remember to have your starting lineups set 5 minutes before the games begin this week. Any players in the Vikings vs. Saints game will be locked in whichever lineup position you have them at 8:25pm EDT on Thursday.

Coach Thadtotti once again calculated and spreadsheeted (it sounds better than the alternative, no?) our customized schedule. Each team once again plays its division rivals twice and everyone else once, and we have special rivalry matchups during week 10. Division winners will receive top playoff seeds so inter-division play is very important.

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins
Monday Night Early: Baltimore Ravens @ New York Jets
Monday Night Late: San Diego Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
We'll know a lot more about where this one is headed after tonight's NFL opening game, when 44% of the Vipers are playing. It could be a high flying final score with Drew Brees and Peyton Manning taking to the air.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
This one should be close, but Tony Romo gets to start against the Redskins. Edge to the Stompers. Then again, Randy Moss. I guess everyone will just have to sit through the Pred's RBs in the late Monday night game to find out the winner.

Marauders (-1) vs. Dumbbums
Coach Coaldog is going to change out his suspended QB before Sunday's games, right? COACH? The Marauders are in a tough division, but they still don't need a freebie in week one.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Can Kevin Kolb lead both the Eagles and FitzCorp to glory this year? Ask me in about 8 weeks. I do know that the 'Morons will be within striking distance when their Defense takes the field at 10:30pm on Monday night.

Lightning (-1) vs. ray ray haw
Two games will decide this one. It's QB vs QB in the Bengals/Patriots matchup, and the Bolts Defense against a WR and RB of the the haw at Heinz Field. Coach Thadtotti has a good team on paper, but the haw(k) have a new logo (is that a hawk? Because then I get it) and players stretching from Thursday to Monday past midnight.

And the game of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Our first tie? An even matchup in all facets of the game, this battle may come down to if Chris Johnson can live up to the hype of being the #1 overall pick. I have a feeling that Aaron Rodgers is in for a huge year, but will he start piling up points this soon?

Good luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 10!

3FL Notes: 2010 Draft Analysis

Eleven of twelve teams were in attendance for our online draft and everyone seemed to have a good time. Here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. Yuengling Brewers: The Brew Crew (obviously) took Chris Johnson with the first pick of the draft. They also ended up with Larry Fitzgerald and Philip Rivers. Then they went to bed.
Grade: B+

2. Stiletto Stompers: Coach Bev was online for the whole draft this year and it shows. She just better hope that none of her starters get hurt... Grade: B+

3. Lightning: Wow. Even the players who aren't top tier are still poised for a great year. The Bolts have got to be the preseason favorite to win 3FL SuperBowl X. Grade: A

4. Spiked Vipers: The 3FL defending champions decided it would be a good idea to draft more than a few NFL defending champions. Their QB, RB, WR and D are all from the Saints. But like the stock market, past returns are no guarantee of future performance. Grade: B+

5. Dumbbums: You can tell that Coach Coaldog was the only coach not present for the online draft (Roethlisberger in the 3rd round?!?). But if Alex Smith can hold down the fort until Big Ben returns from his suspension the 'Bums will be the ones laughing. Grade: B+

6. Misfits, Inc.: If you have played QB for the Philadelphia Eagles in the past 4 years, chances are that you are now wearing a Misfits, Inc. uniform. Along with the best WR tandem in the 3FL. Grade: A-

7. ray ray haw: It wasn't apparent during the draft, but the haw ended up with quite a solid team. They will be guided by the fortune of the Atlanta Falcons. Oh, and Tom Brady. Grade: A-

8. Baltimorons: Coach Drew missed the first few rounds with an excuse called "work" or whatever. He ended up with an interesting mix of superstars, veterans, and guys you've never heard of. It's a rag tag bunch, but that isn't always bad. Grade: B

9. Renegades: The engaged couple have the top QB and top D in the entire NFL, but the rest of their lineup also looks awfully good. Except for WR3. It will give them something to argue about.
Grade: A-

10. Predacons: A rookie RB? Randy Moss? A Steelers player? Santonio Holmes + 4 weeks of suspension? This is not your usual Predacons team. But Coach Sinkerbeam has never won the trophy with his usual picks. Grade: B+

11. Marauders: It was a solid draft for Coach Hoss. If it wasn't for the laundry downstairs that needed changing it might have been even better. QB might be a bit weak, but they make up for it with some sneaky WR/RB picks. Grade: B+

12. The Comfy Chair: The chair is stuffed with talent, even after being the last pick in the draft. Vincent Jackson is not actually on a NFL team and RB2 is staffed by a couple of 2nd stringers, but, Peyton Manning, y'all. Grade: B+

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions soon. Stay tuned.
