3FL Notes: S10: Week 11 Preview

Wow.

Thanks to Michael Vick's record breaking performance the league had its highest scoring week of the year. In fact, #7 and his Eagles teammates were the source of two incredible double digit comebacks.

Also, the 3FL West pulled off a different kind of trifecta last week - all three teams combined to earn a win against a team in each other division.

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 11:

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The battle for supremacy in the 3FL North rests heavily on this head-to-head matchup. The haw have more points and the Bolts have more wins, but a rrh win would keep them undefeated in intra-divisional play and give them a leg up in the division. I'll bet Coach Haw won't sit Tom Brady this week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Dumbbums
Did you see last week's game from the Corp? Do the same but with Sunday night replacing Monday night. Michael Vick won't score 40+ points again, but even the best of the 'Bums probably won't be able to take down the corporate giant. Then again, maybe it's Big Ben's turn to break a record this week.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
If you live by the ridiculous comeback, you just might die by the ridiculous comeback. And then have your K cut from his team. Just ask the Renegades. They'll try to put the pieces back together against the "set our team lineup 30 minutes before the game" Brewers. Odds are only one of these two will make the playoffs. Which one gets a head start with a win?

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
This looks like it will be a one-sided affair, but don't be fooled. The Vipers aren't looking for another tie and they have the personnel to win this one. Especially if the injured pieces of furniture end up not being able to play at all. That will change my pick, too.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This one just might end up as a tie, but who can pick against the 'Morons? They have won three in a row and just leapfrogged the Chair to take the top spot in the 3FL South. Meanwhile the unlucky Marauders are winless in their last nine games. The postseason is out of reach for Coach Hoss, but that doesn't mean he can't have a little fun being a spoiler.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Did you know that the Stompers are now the highest scoring team in the league? And yet they are in last place in the highly competitive 3FL West. Not for long. It's looking more and more likely that all three teams in this division are going to make the playoffs, but this game will go far in determining which seed each will be.

Good luck this week.

  1. While they may not show up as having mathematically clinched a playoff spot, all four 7-win teams have done just that.

In order to clinch a spot, you have to be guaranteed to finish higher than four other players. The 1-win teams obviously cannot match the 7-win teams, so there's three. The fourth is either the Renegades or Yuengling Brewers.

Mathematically, with three games left, these two 4-win teams could get to 7 wins; but consider that they play each other this week. That means at least one of these teams cannot hit the 7 win mark.

Our division setup does throw a quirk into the equation, but in this case doesn't matter as the worse of the two will be the one fighting for the wildcard spot.

So "congrats" to the 7-win teams, "good luck" to the 5 teams fighting for 4 spots and "better luck next year" to the three 1-win teams.

  2. "Better luck next year" for sure. I'm still trying to win games even though I'm mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. That, or I'm shooting for more ties...I mean, why not?
