3FL Notes: S11: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

A new name will adorn the championship trophy! Both the Predacons and Yuengling Brewers pulled convincing upsets to set up a great SuperBowl matchup. Remember that a majority of the games are on Saturday this week, with only a late game on Christmas and the MNF game after a full slate on Christmas Eve.

Who will be receiving an etched trophy plate as a late Christmas present? We'll have to watch and see.

Week 16 Information

Thursday Night: Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts
Christmas Night: Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints

Here we go...it's SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#3 Marauders vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
The Stompers snuck into the playoffs and can't be too upset with this opportunity to raise their final standing by one level. The Marauders also can't be too upset after realizing that the players who got them the 3 seed are on IR and unhelpful in these playoffs. The only question here is which of the two managers will replace their injured WRs before gametime.

For 5th Place:
#4 Misfits, Inc. vs. #7 The Comfy Chair
Both of these teams lost heartbreakers in the quarterfinals and then took care of business last week. And both score a lot of points on their respective benches. That might be the case again this week, although FitzCorp is down to 12 healthy players with one IR and one O since the playoffs began. They won't be able to start a TE this week. The Chair has almost as many red Ps and Qs as healthy guys as they fight for the top spot in the consolation bracket. Maybe Michael Vick will lead the tCC over the Misfits for their final defeat of the year. Another heartbreaker.

For 3rd Place:
#5 ray ray haw vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
The haw was a 10 point favorite last week, ready to advance to their fourth SuperBowl and defend last year's title. The Vipers were the team of destiny - a lower than expected seed with the top point total and a 15 point favorite to play in their second championship game. So what happened? The 3FL again proved its unpredictability, sending both of these teams to stunning losses and into a battle for 3rd place. It will probably be the best matchup of our final weekend, with these two projected to score more than 155 combined points. High flying action for family bragging rights.

3FL SuperBowl XI
#1 Predacons vs. #2 Yuengling Brewers
How in the world did we end up here? This has to be the most unlikely #1 vs. #2 matchup of all time. And, actually, it is the first time that the first and second seed have ever met in the SuperBowl. Both teams have been to the big game before (the Predacons in '01 and the Brewers in '03 and '05), but neither has yet etched their name on the championship trophy. That all changes on Monday night.

The Predacons have been relying on the underachievement of others all year, and their two wins in these playoffs came by posting the largest margin of victory in both games. Meanwhile the Brewers have outscored everyone else in the league in each of the past two weeks. That's one surefire way to get into the SuperBowl game. It should be a great matchup for Christmas weekend, with both teams starting eight on Saturday and then holding one player each for prime time.

The NFL matchups favor the Brewers but the raw projections put the Preds ahead by a few. The game to watch is Eagles/Cowboys on Christmas Eve afternoon. Romo and Maclin will go for Coach Sinkerbeam while Bryant and the Philadelphia defense will counter for Coach Brew. That game could go along way to decide who will hold aloft the trophy. Here we go!

Happy Festivus, Merry Christmas and good luck this week.

Thanks to all for another fun season!

3FL Notes: S11: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

That was a pretty crazy first round of the postseason. It was our second highest scoring playoff week of all time, and half of our games came down to the final seconds of Monday Night Football. Interestingly enough, the four teams that remain are the top four teams in the regular season standings - if you don't take divisions into consideration.

All individual team pages (see links on the sidebar) and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2011 regular season. This year's additions to the records page are in bold. Through 876 regular season games we have scored a combined 105,150 points.

As of this moment we have played exactly 1,000 3FL games.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 92 points

Player MVPs:
Maurice Jones-Drew (RB/Jax) - 30 points
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 30 points
Detroit Lions Defense - 27 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

League Voting: 4/4 - 100%
Yahoo! Projections: 4/4 - 100%

The Predacons and the 3FL were 4/4 in week 14 voting

Go vote! The polls close at 8:20pm on Thursday.

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: Jacksonville Jaguars @ Atlanta Falcons
Saturday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sunday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ San Diego Chargers
Monday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ San Francisco 49ers

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl XI, losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 Predacons vs. #5 ray ray haw
The Preds used a prime time comeback to seal their victory last week, setting up this South Division battle for the third time this season. The haw lost both regular season matchups but they seem to have a slight edge in this one as they try to advance to their fourth Super Bowl. How fun that it will come down to MNF, with their defenses squaring off against each other for a chance at the trophy. And the Steelers are playing, too.

#2 Yuengling Brewers vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
Our other semifinal is a battle within the East Division. This week is shaping up to be like the old hockey playoffs. Anyway, the Brewers outlasted the Chair in the quarterfinals while posting their highest scoring week of the season. For their effort they run into the red hot Vipers, who are big favorites with their big names going up against friendly competition this week. Don't count out Matthew Stafford, though. He has put these beer makers on his back before.

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#4 Misfits, Inc. vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
One more yard. That's all Jake Ballard needed to give FitzCorp the win last week. It didn't help that their bench outscored their starters (and ray ray haw's starters, too). But now the battle is on for fifth place. The Stompers are going to need a Brees miracle to pull this one out, although the Ravens Defense might have a few surprises.

#3 Marauders vs. #7 The Comfy Chair
The battle of the West Division wraps up our second playoff week. Coach Hoss' team is quite depleted, with five of his players on the injury report. Both of his QBs are Q. Ouch. Adrian Peterson may be back this week, but that's one week too late. The comfy ones have to hope that they get a little better luck than their two point loss in the first round. Scoring 90 points will surely earn a win this week.

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl is one win away!

3FL Notes: S11: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

It came down to the last game of the week during the last week of the regular season to decide which teams earned a spot in the postseason. Here come the playoffs!

Three wins in a row wins it all!

Remember that ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 1pm THIS SUNDAY, December 11th. You will not be able to add/drop after this time. Make sure your team is ready for the playoffs before then.

And don't forget that all remaining weeks start with a Thursday Night NFL game.

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 90 points

Player MVPs:
Cam Newton (QB/Car) - 31 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 30 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 24 points

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: St. Louis Rams @ Seattle Seahawks

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Predacons vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
Well, now they've done it. The Preds finished the year with 11 wins, earning the best regular season record in the last five years. And they are riding a six game winning streak. That means they have virtually no chance of winning the championship this year, right? I know the curse was broken last season, but come on. A ten percent chance of something good happening is not good. Meanwhile the Stompers snuck into the playoffs with a loss last week and a sub .500 record, but don't count them out. Drew Brees has the ability to lead a team to a victory by himself. Sunday night will be fun, but Monday night will make all the difference in this one.

#2 Yuengling Brewers vs. #7 The Comfy Chair
The Brewers won the East - the only division in the league to send three teams to the playoffs. That's a pretty impressive feat. For their efforts the Beermen get to face the Chair, who forced their way into the postseason by winning their final three games. Thank goodness for that tie all the way back in week one. There seem to be a few keys to this matchup. First, which Matthew Stafford shows up? The 32 point QB or the 4 point QB? Second, which two of the Chair's three legit RBs will get the start? That decision will loom large. And finally, is Michael Vick back? And will he take a seat in this one or take the seat to victory?

#3 Marauders vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
These two come to the battlefield looking quite similar. Both are 7-6 and they were the top two scoring teams in the league this season. However, at present time, the Marauders look as though they have been plundered. Matt Moore and Colt McCoy are fighting for the starting QB spot thanks to Matt Schaub ending up on IR. Number one draft pick Adrian Peterson has been sidelined by injury for the past two weeks and maybe this week as well. The Vipers have Aaron Rodgers, so there's that. He's been on the weekly player MVPs list more times than he has not this year. Unless he throws all 13 of his TD passes to Greg Jennings, this one could be out of hand before SpiVi's kicker comes in to mop things up late.

#4 Misfits, Inc. vs. #5 ray ray haw
The outcome of this one looks fairly obvious. FitzCorp is 5-8 (!) but somehow made the playoffs by being in the North Division. The haw was in first place in the league for a majority of the season. FitzCorp has never held aloft the trophy. The haw have their name etched upon it a record three times, including once from last year when these two teams met in the SuperBowl. Coach haw is projected to win by almost ten points and many of the matchups favor the defending 3FL champions. But not so fast. Things don't have to make sense here, and they usually don't. All those Ps and Qs in the haw's lineup may be an indicator of what's to come. Perhaps a Sunday night comeback by the corporation? Don't rule them out. This should be the best matchup of the week.

Good luck in the playoffs! The trophy awaits!

3FL Notes: S11: Week 13 Preview

Only three teams have punched their tickets to the playoffs as we enter this final week of the regular season. Seven teams still have a shot at the five remaining postseason spots. Three of our four divisions are still up for grabs. This crazy regular season is about to figure itself out with as much drama as you can stuff into a single fantasy football weekend. Here we go!

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Stiletto Stompers - 103 points

Week 13 Information

Thursday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Seattle Seahawks
Sunday Night: Detroit Lions @ New Orleans Saints
Monday Night: San Diego Chargers @ Jacksonville Jaguars

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Both of these teams are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs and the Preds have already secured the #1 seed (for better or worse), so this is the game with the least amount of drama this week. It will end one of their winning streaks, though. Not that anyone else cares.

And the games of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The winner is in and actually has a chance to take the division title. The loser might be in too, but it's definitely not a sure thing. We do know that it will come down to Brees vs. Stafford on Sunday night. It ought to be a high flying affair in the NFL and 3FL to help figure out the East Division.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
This is sure to be a good one. FitzCorp could claim a postseason spot with a win, but the Chair needs a win to even have a chance. Maurice Jones-Drew will be ready to put up a fight for the furniture on MNF, but we'll have a clearer picture of the weekend after the Eagles game tonight.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The Bolts have been eliminated from playoff contention, but that doesn't mean they can't have a little fun this week. Handing the Renegades a loss would put the newlyweds out of the playoffs. Who wouldn't want to make a division rival join you on the outside? A Renegades win on the other hand could mean a division tile and fourth seed. All with a losing record.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
What happened to the mighty South? Both of these teams are riding losing streaks after such great starts. In fact, seven of their nine combined losses have come in the last four weeks. Did they peak too early? Or are they saving it up for a playoff run? The haw have claimed the #5 seed, but the 'Morons need a win to be assured an opportunity to play next week.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
After leading the league in scoring for much of the middle of the season, the Marauders top-tier players then started dropping like flies. And now the reality is that if they are defeated by the 'Bums this year they might be out of the playoffs altogether. Unbelievable, but true. It will sure be an interesting game on MNF if this one is still close.

Good luck this week!

Thursday, November 24, 2011

3FL Notes: S11: Week 12 Preview

No additional playoff spots were claimed last week, so we enter the final two weeks of the regular season with a lot to be settled. NFL bye weeks are over and the battles are on to claim the last six tickets to the postseason.

Can you believe that all four divisions are still up for grabs and every 3FL team still has a shot a the playoffs? Let's do this!!

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 97 points

Player MVPs:
Matthew Stafford (QB/Det) - 32 points
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 23 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 22 points

Week 12 Information

Thanksgiving Early: Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving Late: Miami Dolphins @ Dallas Cowboys
Thanksgiving Night: San Francisco 49ers @ Baltimore Ravens
Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Kansas City Chiefs
Monday Night: New York Giants @ New Orleans Saints

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Predacons
This one is going to be so close that even their benches are projected to score the same number of points. A Preds win would guarantee them the top playoff seed, but who wants that? It's still a curse if the bad thing happens 90% of the time, right?

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Lightning
This just in: the Bolts can still win the 3FL North. They'll need to win out and get some help, but it is possible. FitzCorp is mired in a four game losing streak that saw them go from having a lead in the division to clawing to keep a hold on a postseason berth. They control their own destiny, but it won't be easy.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Is this week shaping up to have the best matchups or what? Another close battle here, with Tom Brady running up the score before everyone crosses their fingers while watching Coach Drew's kicker on MNF.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
SpiVi has been the top scoring team the past two weeks in a row, and there's no reason that trend won't continue. They just jumped ahead of the Marauders to take the total points lead as well. We'll know a lot more about this game after the Thursday games - these teams combine to start almost half of their players on Thanksgiving day.

Marauders (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
Coach Hoss just did an overhaul of his squad, adding and dropping 6 players in preparation for this week's games. But that doesn't change the fact that Colt McCoy is his starting QB. Still, he'll have a slight edge against the Seats, who are in desperate need of a win to stay in the playoff hunt.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
This is going to be a five day battle with the loser teetering on the brink of missing the playoffs. They each have players active from Thursday afternoon until Monday night, with that final prime time matchup including two from each team. Their QBs will face off against each other and their RBs are coming out of the same backfield. It should be a great one.

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week!

Thursday, November 17, 2011

3FL Notes: S11: Week 11 Preview

Another playoff spot has been claimed but we still have six up for grabs with only three weeks left in the regular season. Our second round of intradivisional games is here and with that comes an interesting fact - eleven teams still have a shot at winning their respective divisions. Let's start those battles!

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 88 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 30 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 24 points
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 23 points

Week 11 Information

Thursday Night: New York Jets @ Denver Broncos
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants
Monday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ New England Patriots
Bye Week: Texans, Colts, Saints, Steelers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 11:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
With last weeks win the Preds are have secured a spot in the postseason and are tied for the best record in the league. Perhaps they'll just take the last three weeks of the season off. The 'Morons haven't won in three weeks and are no longer a lock for the playoffs unless they finish strong.  This final bye week isn't going to be helpful to them.

Spiked Vipers (-2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
These two have matching records and are trying to surge above .500 for a direct line to the playoffs. But the Vipers have emerged as a late season powerhouse and don't look to slow down any time soon. They may be projected at 70 points per week for the rest of the year.

Misfits, Inc (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Do you believe that the newlyweds could tie FitzCorp for the best record in the North Division with a win this week? It will come down to the Giants/Eagles game on Sunday night to set the stage for Tom Brady to attempt a Monday night comeback. The Renegades TE choice could be the most important one of the week.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Both of these teams are clawing toward a playoff berth, but the 'Bums are going to have a difficult time with five players on a bye this week. Will they fill the starting lineup? As for the furniture, will Michael Vick even play at all? It will be a good one. But a low scoring one.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
I can't believe I just typed that. 2-8 (-1/2) vs. 8-2? It's looking that way. Our first place haw are busy preparing for the postseason (plus their two best players are on a bye). Don't look now, but the Bolts still have a shot at the division title and a playoff spot. What?

And the game of the week...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Coach Hoss' team is currently the #2 seed and at the top of the league points total, scoring over 700 points in our first 10 weeks. But he'll have to face the rest of the year without a big part of that effort. Matt Schaub is out for the season, replaced by...um...Jay Cutler. Ouch. That might not stop them this week but the long term projections are, obviously, not as good.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S11: Week 10 Preview

Only four regular season games remain with seven playoff spots up for grabs, so it's about to get even more interesting in the 3FL. And rivalry week is a great beginning to the drama.

Thursday games on the NFL Network begin this week and run for the rest of our season, so make sure you have your players set for those games before they start. And make sure you vote on the 3FL games before then too!

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 93 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 30 points
Vincent Jackson (WR/SD) - 25 points
Philip Rivers (QB/SD) - 25 points

League Voting: 29/54 - 53.7%
Yahoo! Projections: 26/54 - 48.15%

The voting deadline for this week is before the THURSDAY night game! Go vote!!

Week 10 Information

Thursday Night: Oakland Raiders @ San Diego Chargers
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ New York Jets
Monday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers
Bye Week: None

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for rivalry week!:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs Dumbbums
Another tie? Maybe. Cam Newton and Megatron are back for the 'Morons and that gives them a slight edge. We'll know more about the Dumbbums week after Thursday night, but it's going to come down to one player on MNF. Just like it should.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
I'm still waiting for the smack talk, but this one will live up to its rivalry week legacy. Could it be the Brew Crew that hands the haw their second loss in 16 weeks? With a healthy Matthew Stafford and the Welker/Jets D cannibalization it is possible. But so is another win for Coach haw.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Vipers are projected to win big this week and I can't see it any other way. Aaron Rodgers might be all they need. The Chair should score a bunch of points, but the Vipers will probably outscore the rest of the league.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
We finally get our twin matchup this year and it's a good one. The Renegades need to win here to move toward a possible playoff berth, but the matchups are looking good for the Stompers. The star QBs will hold the key. Brees or Brady - who ya got?

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Lightning
What was that? Last week the lowly Bolts earned their second win and outscored everyone else. Meanwhile, the points leading Marauders scored the lowest team total. Those trends won't carry over to rivalry week, but Coach ThadTotti has more of a chance than you think. And he better take it if he wants any shot at the postseason.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Even with a losing record FitzCorp is in control of the 3FL North, but that doesn't mean they can rest. Things are looking good for them to climb back to .500 this week, but don't count out the Preds comeback effort. It will be a stressful prime time for both.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S11: Week 9 Preview

Stat corrections for week 8 have been posted and the Buffalo Defense was awarded an additional sack, giving the Baltimorons one more point and pulling them even with the Yuengling Brewers for our (and Coach Drew's) second tie of the year. Perhaps if he actually started a second RB or third WR it would be a win instead! This interesting season continues...

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 89 points

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Coach Hoss continues to pile up the points this year, already eclipsing the 600 point mark and outscoring the rest of the league in three of our eight weeks of competition. It's a good thing Adrian Peterson is on a bye or this one wouldn't even be interesting - with all of the Stompers injuries and matchups and everything.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Somehow, relying on the underachievement of others, the Predacons continue to win. And somehow the Renegades and Tom Brady continue to lose. So both of those things just might happen again. But it's looking like Darren McFadden is out for this weekend. All bets are off.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Dumbbums
Speaking of Darren McFadden the Vipers sure hope he can't play so that Michael Bush can start for the Raiders instead. Actually, it shouldn't take much more than Aaron Rodgers this week. These teams have a combined five reasons to watch the Steelers/Ravens on Sunday night to wrap this one up (and that's with Coach Coaldog keeping Big Ben on the bench).

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The haw have lost only one time in their last 14 weeks. 14 weeks! That's a single loss in more than an entire regular season's worth of games! They will continue to roll this week against a FitzCorp team with a bunch of tough matchups. At least Coach Tim-A gets to watch the E-A-G-L-E-S in prime time again.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Lightning
What is going on in the atmosphere? The Lightning are one loss away from adding their name to the losing streak list. Perhaps the Tebow era is already over? They could definitely double their win total this week (since the Baltimorons are without the services of Cam Newton and Megatron), but why should we trust them? Perhaps the Baltimorons will stage a MNF comeback for their third tie this year instead.

And the game of the week...

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
First they replace a win with a tie thanks to a stat correction, and now they have to deal with Matthew Stafford on a bye. The Brewers aren't in for an easy week especially since the Chair need a victory to stay in the playoff race. Michael Vick on Monday night for the comeback win!

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S11: Week 8 Preview

We're already past the halfway point of the regular season! I don't believe it either. Bye weeks have been taking a toll on everyone, but that will be over soon enough. The waiver wire and free agent pool sure are getting a workout.

Week 7 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 78 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 36 points
Arian Foster (RB/Hou) - 28 points
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit) - 25 points

Week 8 Information

Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles
Monday Night: San Diego Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs
Bye Week: Falcons, Bears, Packers, Jets, Raiders, Buccaneers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 8:

Renegades (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Tom Brady is back from his bye week, and that means the Renegades are back in the favored column. Of course it will probably take Brady having a big day against the Steelers for them to win. Oh, well.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
This one will be fun to watch. A great matchup is made even better by a Predacons comeback in the making. Too bad their starting RBs are both on a bye and all the matchups favor the footwear.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Marauders
These two teams are even in the standings, but the Marauders have scored a bunch more points. Not this week, though. The Corporation should take this one relatively easily, with the Eagles/Cowboys game playing a big role in their point total.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Someone has to win. With a combined 3-11 record, things can't be much worse for these two. But both can still make the playoffs with a little luck that starts this week. The Tebow era will begin for the Bolts and the result will come down to their three players on MNF.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
This line should technically be OFF, since both of these teams need to do some add/dropping to field a complete lineup. Will Stafford play? What about Jahvid Best and Andre Johnson? It will be interesting to see who is thought to be expendable from each roster to make room for the bye week fill-ins.

And the game of the week...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
It's a shame that this rivalry has to be played during Aaron Rodgers' bye week. Otherwise we'd be set for a tie instead of giving the league-leading haw a slight advantage. Both teams have players in all four time slots, so it won't be over until early Tuesday morning.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S11: Week 7 Preview

The torrid start to our season couldn't continue forever. We just witnessed our lowest scoring week of the year, but it may have been the one with the most drama. Two MNF comebacks headlined quite a competitive end of the first round of intra-divisional games.

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 77 points

Player MVPs:
Ahmad Bradshaw (RB/NYG) - 24 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 22 points
New York Jets Defense - 22 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 19/36 - 52.78%
League Voting: 20/36 - 55.56%
Yahoo! Projections: 18/36 - 50%

The Yuengling Brewers and the 3FL were 6/6 in week 6 voting.

Week 7 Information

Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ New Orleans Saints
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Bye Week: Bills, Bengals, Patriots, Giants, Eagles, 49ers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Don't let their records fool you - this one will be a lot more competitive than it looks. The matchups favor the 'Bums and all signs point to a prime time comeback for Coach Coaldog's squad. But, we've said that before...

Spiked Vipers (-2) vs. Renegades
After two straight convincing wins the newlyweds run into a heap of bye week trouble this week. As in six players without games, including Tom Brady. Sorry, but it won't be pretty. Aaron Rodgers might beat them himself.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Brew Crew picked all six 3FL games correctly and then stormed back to a win with just over four minutes left in the Monday night game. Not too shabby. And they get a handcuffed FitzCorp team (who before the waiver deadline had seven employees on a bye) this week. But still...

ray ray haw (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
Man, this week seven bye schedule is killing everyone. The Chair is also sitting six this week because of the bye. Ouch. And Philip Rivers is back for Coach haw, so they won't again see -6 as the total for the QB spot.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
OK, I lied. The 'Morons don't have a single player on a bye this week. After a couple of consecutive games being the top scoring team in the league, Coach Drew scored the least points last week. But they still remain third in total points for the season. Right behind the Marauders.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
It's been a disappointing campaign for the 'Bolts so far in 2011 and another loss might all but put them out of the playoff picture. The Stompers look to do just that and perhaps it's time for them to be on the right side of a MNF comeback for once. But maybe not.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 13, 2011

3FL Notes: S11: Week 6 Preview

So now all of our teams have at least one win and one loss (or one tie). Last week saw the haw's ten game winning streak come to an end, and the Renegades picked up their first victory of the year.

It also reminded all of us to put things in perspective.

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 93 points

Player MVPs:
Adrian Peterson (RB/Min) - 24 points
Cam Newton (QB/Car) - 21 points
San Francisco 49ers Defense - 21 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 15/30 - 50%
League Voting: 14/30 - 46.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 15/30 - 50%

Week 6 Information

Sunday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears
Monday Night: Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets
Bye Week: Cardinals, Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers, Seahawks, Titans

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Curtis Painter led the Preds to victory and broke the haw's streak last week. He is no longer on the roster, but they still have a slight edge against the unlucky furniture. Unless this is the week that Vick and the Packer's Defense break out at the same time.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Misfits, Inc.
You'd think that SpiVi would have more than one win this year, I mean with owning Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers Defense. They just might pick up another one this week as their matchups are quite favorable. But don't count out FitzCorp if they choose the right QB.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The top spot in the East will be determined by this matchup and it's going to be a good one. But first, it's going to require a dip into the free agent pool for a couple of Stompers WRs. If those spots stay blank I'm changing my vote.

Renegades (-1) vs. Lightning
Tom Brady and company gave the Renegades their first win of the season last week, and things are about to get even better. The Lightning have two of their best players on a bye. It won't be pretty, but at least someone will double their win total.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
These two are hit hard by the bye weeks, with a combined five starters unavailable for this game. Overall, Coach Hoss' team is second in league scoring while the 'Bums are dead last. It doesn't help when you leave Big Ben and his 5 TDs on the bench.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
How about that 3FL South? The three teams have a combined 12-2-1 record through five weeks of the regular season. And those two losses are because they had to play each other twice. This matchup should continue that trend and be a great one to watch, especially as their Defenses have the final say in prime time.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S11: Week 5 Preview

A Sunday night comeback, a Monday night comeback, and the continuation of a now double digit winning streak. What else could you ask for in a football weekend? How about a repeat top scoring team and a single player earning 40+ points.

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 98 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 43 points (tied for 2nd place all-time)
Baltimore Ravens Defense - 32 points
Cam Newton (QB/Car) - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 11/24 - 45.83%
League Voting: 10/24 - 41.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 11/24 - 45.83%

That's a little better. Go vote!

Week 5 Information

Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Atlanta Falcons
Monday Night: Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
Bye Week: Ravens, Browns, Cowboys, Dolphins, Rams, Redskins

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

Marauders (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
Coach Hoss is 0-1 under the new logo, but not for long. The matchups are in their favor and they should cruise to a comeback win early enough on Monday night to get some good sleep.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Aaron Rodgers scored 43 points for SpiVi last week but they still managed to lose the game. By 9 points. Not this week. That one player total might beat the Brew Crew all by itself.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Lightning
FitzCorp can put a stranglehold on the North Division with a win here. It probably won't even come close to Kyle Orton chipping in for a Bolts comeback on Monday night. You know, scoring 1 point instead of 0.

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Predacons
The haw's winning streak stretched to 10 games last week, and it doesn't look like the Preds will have any way to stop it from continuing. Both of their QBs are on a bye this week. Whoops. Roll on, ray ray haw.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Can the 'Morons continue their high flying ways? They would have beaten anyone in the league in the past two weeks. But the Stompers are only 7 points behind Coach Drew's league leading total. Look for this to be a close one with a big MNF comeback necessary.

And the game of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
When I tell people that the team in our league that owns Tom Brady is 0-4 no one can believe it. Heck, I don't believe it either. But that all changes this week. Maybe. It depends which team has more players actually playing in a game.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 29, 2011

3FL Notes: S11: Week 4 Preview

The streak continues! With last week's victory Coach Haw has won nine in a row, which is tied for second place all time.

And how about that South Division? They swept the East in week two and the South last week. After our first three weeks all three teams are undefeated, posting a combined 8-0-1 record. Someone will earn their first loss this week, though - here come the intra-divisional games!

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 86 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 25 points
Joe Flacco (QB/Bal) - 24 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 23 points
Matt Schaub (QB/Hou) - 23 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 8/18 - 44.44%
League Voting: 5/18 - 27.78%
Yahoo! Projections: 8/18 - 44.44%

We had 10/12 teams vote last week. Go vote now while you're thinking about it!

Week 4 Information

Sunday Night: New York Jets @ Baltimore Ravens
Monday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bye Week: None until week 5

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Would it be strange if the Defenses of these two scored the most points on either team? It could definitely happen. It won't be pretty, but it will be a great matchup to keep track of this week.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The Renegades just can't catch a break this year. Even with Tom Brady at the controls. This week is no different, with FitzCorp getting a slight edge on the matchups. Still, everyone will have to stay up on Monday night to know for sure how it ends.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Lightning
This one shouldn't even be close. Everything is leaning toward the Brew Crew making it a little out of hand. Which can only mean that it will instead come down to the wire. That's why they play the game.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
The Haw are going for their 10th straight win, but the Marauders have other ideas. Can Coach Hoss stop the streak before it reaches double digits? He'll have to watch Schaub do well against the Steelers for that to happen. Oh, well.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Who will earn the South Division's first blemish? These teams are within 5 total points on the season and this matchup will be even closer. The Preds few injury tweaks will be the difference, giving way to a Freeman led comeback on MNF.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
These two will rely on their high flying QBs in an effort to take the top spot in the East Division. The Stompers will be looking for a Britt replacement, but this one will all come down to Sunday night.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 22, 2011

3FL Notes: S11: Week 3 Preview

What a week!

The league scored 884 points - crushing our old record (855 points) for most league points scored in a week. And speaking of records, Coach Haw's winning streak has reached 8 games.

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 110 points

Player MVPs:
Matthew Stafford (QB/Det) - 27 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 26 points
Miles Austin (WR/Dal) - 25 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 6/12 - 50%
League Voting: 3/12 - 25%
Yahoo! Projections: 6/12 - 50%

25%? Yikes. Go vote!

Week 3 Information

Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Indianapolis Colts
Monday Night: Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys
Bye Week: None until week 5

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
These two teams match up evenly across the board, until you compare the RBs. That's enough of an edge to give the Chair their first victory of the year. 1-1-1 has a ring to it.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Lightning
After an incredible prime time comeback and a bunch of new injuries you might wonder if the Preds have anything left for this week. But the Lightning have their own problems with players sitting out Wednesday's practice. And they will probably vote for themselves.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Dumbbums
The five WRs on the 'Bums squad have scored a total of 17 points in our season's first two weeks. And two of them may not play this week (someone please tell Coach Coaldog). The Brewers have only four WRs, and they have scored 39 points so far. That's all you need to know here.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Renegades
What else can happen to the newlyweds this season? For the second straight year they have lost one of their top two picks to a season ending injury in one of the first two weeks. At least they'll have Tom Brady to ease their pain as they try to halt the (tied for) fifth longest winning streak in league history.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Coach Hoss scored 110 points last week and won by more than 30 points. This matchup will be much closer, with Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Defense trying to edge SpiVi past the league's top scoring team.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
This one will come down to the QB decisions. Both teams have two good ones to pick from, but who will choose correctly? It will also come down to the 'Fitz making a comeback try on Monday night. It should be just enough.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 15, 2011

3FL Notes: S11: Week 2 Preview

Another week one tie? Yep. And a bunch of injuries, too. Looks like we're in for another crazy year in the 3FL.

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Stiletto Stompers - 88 points

Player MVPs:
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 32 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 26 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 3/6 - 50%
League Voting: 2/6 - 33.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 3/6 - 50%

I told you the first week was the hardest to predict...

Go vote!

Week 2 Information

Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons
Monday Night: Saint Louis Rams @ New York Giants
Bye Week: None until week 5

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Scoring the least points in the league in week 1 will get you a change at QB and a hot commodity off of the waiver wire. That should be enough to turn around the Corp against the 'Bums, who might not react to Colston's collarbone surgery until too late.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Baltimorons
Wow. The Vipers look tough (and the Steelers D won't score -2 against Seattle this week). The injury bug has bitten the Baltimorons harder than any other team so far. It won't be pretty.

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Lightning
After a MNF comeback to tie last week, the Chair is poised to continue the momentum. Still, there are a lot of P's, Q's, and D's between these two. We'll have to see who makes it onto the field.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
It's really a question of which WR with a Q will actually play. And things won't be settled until prime time, with each team holding two for the late games.

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The defending champ scored more than 70 points last week. Without a starting RB. This week - with Arian Foster slated to return - it's not hard to see an 8th straight win for the Coach Haw (tying himself for fifth on the all time list).

And the game of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Last week the Renegades came up two points shy of what would have been an incredible comeback. They'll have to try again in this one, with a K and Defense poised to play after the Marauders are done. Is Moreno out? Will Coach Hoss start a full lineup?

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 08, 2011

3FL Notes: S11: Week 1 Preview

The 11th 3FL season begins tonight!

Can ray ray haw defend the title and and win a fourth championship? Will the Lightning finally play in the big game? Do the Marauders remember where they put their logo? Will anyone else sign up for a Twitter account? Only the 3FL season will have the answers...

It all starts on Thursday night!
Remember to have your starting lineups set 5 minutes before the games begin this week. Any players in the Saints vs. Packers game will be locked in whichever lineup position you have them at 8:25pm EDT on Thursday.

Coach Thadtotti once again put together our customized schedule. This year divisional games will be played in weeks 4-6 and 11-13 and week 10 will again our rivalry week. Thanks, spreadsheetgeek.

Voting is up and running for the season - make sure you vote on all the 3FL games before the beginning of tonight's NFL game.

Here we go!

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: New Orleans Saints vs. Green Bay Packers
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ New York Jets
Monday Night Early: New England Patriots @ Miami Dolphins
Monday Night Late: Oakland Raiders @ Denver Broncos
Bye Week: None until week 5

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Baltimorons
Will Peyton Manning have more neck surgeries than completions this season? Maybe. Josh Freeman will fill in admirably, but it will probably not be enough for Coach Drew to pull out a victory this week.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This matchup puts the first pick in the draft against the last. Things look about even, and points by the defenses may end up being the difference. Both teams will have to wait as the Predacons try to mount a comeback with three players in the late Monday game.

Renegades (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
It's a shame we have to wait until Monday night to watch Tom Brady sure things up for the newlyweds. But Matthew Stafford and Philly's D will make this closer than you might think.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Drew Brees will set the tone early for the Stompers in what looks to be a great game. The big question is if Sydney Rice will be healthy this weekend. Most of the matchups go slightly toward the Corp, though, and they are hoping for a strong Sunday at 1pm.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Lightning
So the Vipers are rumored to have had the best draft. That will be put to the test against Jay Cutler and the Bolts this week. Wait. Jay Cutler? Nevermind. At least Chris Johnson might be able to keep it from getting out of hand.

And the game of the week...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Arian Foster says he'll be ready for week 1, if you believe his tweet. I'm sure the haw are concerned with him as a person. Anyway, they also need to decide which TE to play. The PIT/BAL game will weigh heavily on the outcome of this game, so you might want to watch it.

Good luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 11!

3FL Notes: 2011 Draft Analysis

Eleven of our twelve teams were in attendance for the online draft on Thursday night. Here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. Marauders: The drive home and a slow booting computer contributed to Coach Hoss not being present for the first pick in the draft. He missed it by mere seconds. But autopick selected Adrian Peterson, so that's not all bad. The rest of team (that he actively chose) is pretty good, too. Grade: B+

2. Lightning: All of those spreadsheets led to a pretty strong team in the middle. Waiting until the seventh round to draft a QB led to Sam Bradford as the starter. Grade: B

3. Spiked Vipers: The Toyota Best Draft Award (given by Yahoo! to the team projected to score the most points this year) went to the Vipers. I won't go that far, but their position-early draft strategy gave them a stronger team than predicted. Grade: A-

4. ray ray haw: The defending champ flew under the radar again and ended up with a much better team than anyone thought at the time. If it wasn't for those two tight ends back-to-back, we might already be talking about a fourth championship for Coach Haw. Grade: A-

5. Dumbbums: Coach Coaldog was present at the draft this year and his team looks nothing like it did a year ago. Other than Roethlisberger, I mean. Grade: B+

6. Renegades: We're not sure who is running the ship over there in newlywedville, but someone has been studying up. And, also, TOM BRADY. Grade: A-

7. Yuengling Brewers: The computer selected a surprisingly good squad for the Brew Crew. Dare I say maybe even better than if the coach had logged in? Grade: B

8. Baltimorons: They've got some really good WRs and some really big questions marks. If Peyton comes back soon and at full speed no one will question anything else (except for the fact that they neglected to draft a defense). Grade: B-

9. The Comfy Chair: Coach Skrabby ended up with Vick and a bunch of guys with dashes in their names. And Brian St. Pierre. Here's to tradition! Grade: B

10. Misfits, Inc.: The Corp hired two Eagles, four genuine starting RBs, and a QB to WR hookup. Not too shabby. Grade: B+

11. Stiletto Stompers: The whole should be greater than the sum of the Stompers' parts. RBs by committee may be the only frustration, along with having to root for the Ravens' defense. Grade: B

12. Predacons: They did better than you might think from the last spot in the draft. That about sums it up. Grade: B+

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions soon. Stay tuned.

Welcome to Season 11!

Everyone is signed up, the divisions are set, the draft order is locked and the schedule matrix (thanks, SpreadsheetGeek) is in place for the eleventh year of the 3FL.

If you haven't started your research yet you'd better get on it. We have less than one week to go before the draft on Thursday, September 1st @ 9pm EDT.

Don't forget to sign up for a Twitter account and follow @The3FL to join the conversation. And make sure you download the Yahoo! fantasy football app for your phone.

After two rounds of voting, the 3FL coaches have decided to keep all the rules exactly as they have been. The only change for the league this year is the ability to trade draft picks (for players or other draft picks).

The Marauders are on the clock!

2011 Draft Order

Using the updated double-secret reverse reveal draft pick method and a bunch of envelopes, the draft order for the 2011 season of the 3FL has been chosen. Ten of the twelve teams in the league were present during the selection process.

2011 3FL Draft Order
1. Marauders
2. Lightning
3. Spiked Vipers
4. ray ray haw
5. Dumbbums
6. Renegades
7. Yuengling Brewers
8. Baltimorons
9. The Comfy Chair
10. Misfits, Inc.
11. Stiletto Stompers
12. Predacons

Divisions, schedule matrix and rule changes will be finalized pending managers' ballot results and how the NFL CBA situation turns out. Let's all hope they're actually playing football for our 11th season...

We will tentatively hold the live online draft at 9:00pm on Thursday, September 1, 2011.

Have a great off-season!
