3FL Notes: S11: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

A new name will adorn the championship trophy! Both the Predacons and Yuengling Brewers pulled convincing upsets to set up a great SuperBowl matchup. Remember that a majority of the games are on Saturday this week, with only a late game on Christmas and the MNF game after a full slate on Christmas Eve.

Who will be receiving an etched trophy plate as a late Christmas present? We'll have to watch and see.

Week 16 Information

Thursday Night: Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts
Christmas Night: Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints

Here we go...it's SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#3 Marauders vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
The Stompers snuck into the playoffs and can't be too upset with this opportunity to raise their final standing by one level. The Marauders also can't be too upset after realizing that the players who got them the 3 seed are on IR and unhelpful in these playoffs. The only question here is which of the two managers will replace their injured WRs before gametime.

For 5th Place:
#4 Misfits, Inc. vs. #7 The Comfy Chair
Both of these teams lost heartbreakers in the quarterfinals and then took care of business last week. And both score a lot of points on their respective benches. That might be the case again this week, although FitzCorp is down to 12 healthy players with one IR and one O since the playoffs began. They won't be able to start a TE this week. The Chair has almost as many red Ps and Qs as healthy guys as they fight for the top spot in the consolation bracket. Maybe Michael Vick will lead the tCC over the Misfits for their final defeat of the year. Another heartbreaker.

For 3rd Place:
#5 ray ray haw vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
The haw was a 10 point favorite last week, ready to advance to their fourth SuperBowl and defend last year's title. The Vipers were the team of destiny - a lower than expected seed with the top point total and a 15 point favorite to play in their second championship game. So what happened? The 3FL again proved its unpredictability, sending both of these teams to stunning losses and into a battle for 3rd place. It will probably be the best matchup of our final weekend, with these two projected to score more than 155 combined points. High flying action for family bragging rights.

3FL SuperBowl XI
#1 Predacons vs. #2 Yuengling Brewers
How in the world did we end up here? This has to be the most unlikely #1 vs. #2 matchup of all time. And, actually, it is the first time that the first and second seed have ever met in the SuperBowl. Both teams have been to the big game before (the Predacons in '01 and the Brewers in '03 and '05), but neither has yet etched their name on the championship trophy. That all changes on Monday night.

The Predacons have been relying on the underachievement of others all year, and their two wins in these playoffs came by posting the largest margin of victory in both games. Meanwhile the Brewers have outscored everyone else in the league in each of the past two weeks. That's one surefire way to get into the SuperBowl game. It should be a great matchup for Christmas weekend, with both teams starting eight on Saturday and then holding one player each for prime time.

The NFL matchups favor the Brewers but the raw projections put the Preds ahead by a few. The game to watch is Eagles/Cowboys on Christmas Eve afternoon. Romo and Maclin will go for Coach Sinkerbeam while Bryant and the Philadelphia defense will counter for Coach Brew. That game could go along way to decide who will hold aloft the trophy. Here we go!

Happy Festivus, Merry Christmas and good luck this week.

Thanks to all for another fun season!

3FL Notes: S11: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

That was a pretty crazy first round of the postseason. It was our second highest scoring playoff week of all time, and half of our games came down to the final seconds of Monday Night Football. Interestingly enough, the four teams that remain are the top four teams in the regular season standings - if you don't take divisions into consideration.

All individual team pages (see links on the sidebar) and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2011 regular season. This year's additions to the records page are in bold. Through 876 regular season games we have scored a combined 105,150 points.

As of this moment we have played exactly 1,000 3FL games.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 92 points

Player MVPs:
Maurice Jones-Drew (RB/Jax) - 30 points
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 30 points
Detroit Lions Defense - 27 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

League Voting: 4/4 - 100%
Yahoo! Projections: 4/4 - 100%

The Predacons and the 3FL were 4/4 in week 14 voting

Go vote! The polls close at 8:20pm on Thursday.

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: Jacksonville Jaguars @ Atlanta Falcons
Saturday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sunday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ San Diego Chargers
Monday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ San Francisco 49ers

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl XI, losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 Predacons vs. #5 ray ray haw
The Preds used a prime time comeback to seal their victory last week, setting up this South Division battle for the third time this season. The haw lost both regular season matchups but they seem to have a slight edge in this one as they try to advance to their fourth Super Bowl. How fun that it will come down to MNF, with their defenses squaring off against each other for a chance at the trophy. And the Steelers are playing, too.

#2 Yuengling Brewers vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
Our other semifinal is a battle within the East Division. This week is shaping up to be like the old hockey playoffs. Anyway, the Brewers outlasted the Chair in the quarterfinals while posting their highest scoring week of the season. For their effort they run into the red hot Vipers, who are big favorites with their big names going up against friendly competition this week. Don't count out Matthew Stafford, though. He has put these beer makers on his back before.

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#4 Misfits, Inc. vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
One more yard. That's all Jake Ballard needed to give FitzCorp the win last week. It didn't help that their bench outscored their starters (and ray ray haw's starters, too). But now the battle is on for fifth place. The Stompers are going to need a Brees miracle to pull this one out, although the Ravens Defense might have a few surprises.

#3 Marauders vs. #7 The Comfy Chair
The battle of the West Division wraps up our second playoff week. Coach Hoss' team is quite depleted, with five of his players on the injury report. Both of his QBs are Q. Ouch. Adrian Peterson may be back this week, but that's one week too late. The comfy ones have to hope that they get a little better luck than their two point loss in the first round. Scoring 90 points will surely earn a win this week.

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl is one win away!

3FL Notes: S11: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

It came down to the last game of the week during the last week of the regular season to decide which teams earned a spot in the postseason. Here come the playoffs!

Three wins in a row wins it all!

Remember that ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 1pm THIS SUNDAY, December 11th. You will not be able to add/drop after this time. Make sure your team is ready for the playoffs before then.

And don't forget that all remaining weeks start with a Thursday Night NFL game.

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 90 points

Player MVPs:
Cam Newton (QB/Car) - 31 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 30 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 24 points

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: St. Louis Rams @ Seattle Seahawks

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Predacons vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
Well, now they've done it. The Preds finished the year with 11 wins, earning the best regular season record in the last five years. And they are riding a six game winning streak. That means they have virtually no chance of winning the championship this year, right? I know the curse was broken last season, but come on. A ten percent chance of something good happening is not good. Meanwhile the Stompers snuck into the playoffs with a loss last week and a sub .500 record, but don't count them out. Drew Brees has the ability to lead a team to a victory by himself. Sunday night will be fun, but Monday night will make all the difference in this one.

#2 Yuengling Brewers vs. #7 The Comfy Chair
The Brewers won the East - the only division in the league to send three teams to the playoffs. That's a pretty impressive feat. For their efforts the Beermen get to face the Chair, who forced their way into the postseason by winning their final three games. Thank goodness for that tie all the way back in week one. There seem to be a few keys to this matchup. First, which Matthew Stafford shows up? The 32 point QB or the 4 point QB? Second, which two of the Chair's three legit RBs will get the start? That decision will loom large. And finally, is Michael Vick back? And will he take a seat in this one or take the seat to victory?

#3 Marauders vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
These two come to the battlefield looking quite similar. Both are 7-6 and they were the top two scoring teams in the league this season. However, at present time, the Marauders look as though they have been plundered. Matt Moore and Colt McCoy are fighting for the starting QB spot thanks to Matt Schaub ending up on IR. Number one draft pick Adrian Peterson has been sidelined by injury for the past two weeks and maybe this week as well. The Vipers have Aaron Rodgers, so there's that. He's been on the weekly player MVPs list more times than he has not this year. Unless he throws all 13 of his TD passes to Greg Jennings, this one could be out of hand before SpiVi's kicker comes in to mop things up late.

#4 Misfits, Inc. vs. #5 ray ray haw
The outcome of this one looks fairly obvious. FitzCorp is 5-8 (!) but somehow made the playoffs by being in the North Division. The haw was in first place in the league for a majority of the season. FitzCorp has never held aloft the trophy. The haw have their name etched upon it a record three times, including once from last year when these two teams met in the SuperBowl. Coach haw is projected to win by almost ten points and many of the matchups favor the defending 3FL champions. But not so fast. Things don't have to make sense here, and they usually don't. All those Ps and Qs in the haw's lineup may be an indicator of what's to come. Perhaps a Sunday night comeback by the corporation? Don't rule them out. This should be the best matchup of the week.

Good luck in the playoffs! The trophy awaits!

3FL Notes: S11: Week 13 Preview

Only three teams have punched their tickets to the playoffs as we enter this final week of the regular season. Seven teams still have a shot at the five remaining postseason spots. Three of our four divisions are still up for grabs. This crazy regular season is about to figure itself out with as much drama as you can stuff into a single fantasy football weekend. Here we go!

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Stiletto Stompers - 103 points

Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 37 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 26 points
Matt Ryan (QB/Atl) - 23 points

Week 13 Information

Thursday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Seattle Seahawks
Sunday Night: Detroit Lions @ New Orleans Saints
Monday Night: San Diego Chargers @ Jacksonville Jaguars

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Both of these teams are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs and the Preds have already secured the #1 seed (for better or worse), so this is the game with the least amount of drama this week. It will end one of their winning streaks, though. Not that anyone else cares.

And the games of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The winner is in and actually has a chance to take the division title. The loser might be in too, but it's definitely not a sure thing. We do know that it will come down to Brees vs. Stafford on Sunday night. It ought to be a high flying affair in the NFL and 3FL to help figure out the East Division.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
This is sure to be a good one. FitzCorp could claim a postseason spot with a win, but the Chair needs a win to even have a chance. Maurice Jones-Drew will be ready to put up a fight for the furniture on MNF, but we'll have a clearer picture of the weekend after the Eagles game tonight.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The Bolts have been eliminated from playoff contention, but that doesn't mean they can't have a little fun this week. Handing the Renegades a loss would put the newlyweds out of the playoffs. Who wouldn't want to make a division rival join you on the outside? A Renegades win on the other hand could mean a division tile and fourth seed. All with a losing record.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
What happened to the mighty South? Both of these teams are riding losing streaks after such great starts. In fact, seven of their nine combined losses have come in the last four weeks. Did they peak too early? Or are they saving it up for a playoff run? The haw have claimed the #5 seed, but the 'Morons need a win to be assured an opportunity to play next week.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
After leading the league in scoring for much of the middle of the season, the Marauders top-tier players then started dropping like flies. And now the reality is that if they are defeated by the 'Bums this year they might be out of the playoffs altogether. Unbelievable, but true. It will sure be an interesting game on MNF if this one is still close.

Good luck this week!
