SuperBowl XIV Champion!

Congratulations to the HAW on their fourth SuperBowl title! They outlasted the 'Morons in our lowest scoring title game ever and have now won 28.57% of our league championships.

Stay tuned later in the week for final stats and the 2014 season wrap-up.

Merry Christmas and thanks to everyone for a great year!

3FL Notes: S14: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

That was an underwhelming playoff week. After a regular season that saw the league score the most points in our 14 year history, we just witnessed a tie for the lowest playoff week point total ever. Even more interesting was the fact that any of the four teams in the consolation bracket would have beaten any of the four teams in the championship bracket.

Those numbers won't happen again, though, and we've got a title to hand out! Whose name will be etched upon the soon-to-be-updated trophy? We'll have to stay up for Monday Night Football to find out.

Week 15 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 80 points

Tony Romo (QB/Dal/YB) - 21 points
Baltimore Ravens Defense (D) - 21 points

Saturday Afternoon: Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Redskins
Saturday Night: San Diego Chargers @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona Cardinals
Monday Night: Denver Broncos @ Cincinnati Bengals

Here we go...it's SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#7 Lightning vs. #8 Yuengling Brewers
Appropriately, the seventh and eighth place teams will battle for seventh and eighth place. It's a pretty equal matchup even though 11 of the 14 Brewers players have a red letter beside their name. The Bolts are somehow pretty much unscathed. We are forced to watch Brady vs. Romo to see which team can at least get one playoff win and not start the 2015 season on a L4+ streak.

For 5th Place:
#5 Dumbbums vs. #3 Spiked Vipers
I told you that the 'Bums down week during the quarterfinals was an anomaly. They outscored the entire league by almost 20 points in the semis and that just might happen again. SpiVi was second in scoring last week as Dez Bryant took over the game and the matchups seem to favor Coach GooMoo. It's too bad that this game is only to see which team ends up winning the consolation bracket.

For 3rd Place:
#2 Predacons vs. #4 Misfits, Inc.
Here we go again. The team with the best record and the team that has scored the most points in league history will once again be left off of the championship trophy. They have a combined 25 playoff berths and 6 SuperBowl appearances with zero 3FL titles. The Preds scored about half of their projected total last week while leaving their top scorer on the bench (again). FitzCorp didn't have enough healthy WRs to fill all three starter spots, and their backup QB broke his leg before scoring a point. All of this just means they will play for third place and have to wait until next year (again) to try to win it all.

3FL SuperBowl XIV
#1 the HAW vs. #6 Baltimorons
Coach HAW has three titles. Coach Drew has two. Why not let them play for another? The CAPS come in winning 12 of their past 15 games and they ended up top five all-time for weekly point total and season point total. I think I know what their coach has been up to in his retirement. Anyway, the HAW are the definite favorite (-23 points at this writing) but that's why they play the game, right? The 'Morons limp into the SB with 2 IRs, 1 O, and 2 Qs. Ouch. They do have the curse on their side but Coach HAW is the only one in our history to win it all as the one seed. So there goes that.

Can the HAW make it 4 in 14 years? Will Aaron Rodgers return to the MVP list and lead an amazing upset? Whose mantle will be need to make room for the championship hardware? We've got one weekend to find out!

It all wraps up just in time for Festivus. Good luck this week.

Thanks to all for another fun season!

3FL Notes: S14: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

Two of our quarterfinal games came down to the final seconds of Monday Night Football last week. Hopefully the semifinals are just as exciting. Each division is still represented in the championship bracket and there are going to be some great matchups this week.

All individual team pages (see links on the sidebar) and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2014 regular season. This year's additions to the records page are in bold - and there are a lot of them. Through 1,110 regular season games we have scored a combined 134,875 points.

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl XIV, losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 the HAW vs. #4 Misfits, Inc.
The CAPS continue to roll this year even though they did get a scare from the Brew Crew last week. But overall this season they have had a lot of Luck (as in Andrew) and a lot of actual luck. Like the quarterfinals MVP and star QB of FitzCorp getting into a freak car accident in the middle of the week. The Corporation has been on the opposite side of that luck after an amazing MNF comeback to get here. Anything can happen of course, but all of those injuries (during football games and otherwise) are going to make it tough against the high-flying HAW. A Misfits win would be the upset of the playoffs.

#2 Predacons vs. #6 Baltimorons
There was no drama in these teams' quarterfinal games. Both beat their opponents by 40 points last week. The Preds waited until the postseason to put up their highest point total of the year while the 'Morons got off to a good start and never let their foot off the gas. There will be drama in this one, though, as the matchups look pretty even. The equalizer will be all of those Qs and the 2 players who are out for the year and taking up space on the Baltimorons' bench. Thursday night's Defenses will start things off but prime time will be where things are decided.

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#3 Spiked Vipers vs. #7 Lightning
Neither of these two put up much of a fight last week as the Bolts scored almost 20 points less than their projection and SpiVi put up their lowest total of the entire year. It's a shame that their postseason started like that, but it does give us a great matchup in the consolation bracket. Brady and Rivers are poised to get back on track and the two best TEs in the game will make things interesting until the very end of the week.

#5 Dumbbums vs. #8 Yuengling Brewers
Oh so close. Both of these teams made things exciting on Monday night. The 'Bums were ahead going into that game but had to watch their opponent's WR put up record breaking numbers. And the Brewers saw Eddie Lacy bring them all the way back to within 3 points of the top seed before being subbed out with an injury. Also, Peyton Manning was -1 last week. For real. That won't happen again and the Dumbbums are going to get back to putting up big numbers. It will just be one week too late.

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl awaits!

3FL Notes: S14: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

What a finale! Records were broken and playoff invitations came down to the wire. The league scored the most points ever in a season. And now the matchups are set and the postseason is ready to begin!

Remember that ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 1pm THIS SUNDAY, December 7th. You will not be able to add/drop after this time. Make sure your team is ready for the playoffs before then.

Three wins in a row wins it all!!

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Chicago Bears
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ San Diego Chargers
Monday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ Green Bay Packers

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 the HAW vs. #8 Yuengling Brewers
The HAW just earned a spot record books for their week 13 performance and their total for the year. They scored the most points, had the best record and claimed the top seed in the playoffs. But that's the problem. Can the Brew Crew enforce the curse? They snuck into the postseason even after a loss last week, but the matchups are better than you think. And the Brewers were the last team to beat the CAPS. Of course, Coach HAW is the only one who has ever broken the curse, so...

#2 Predacons vs. #7 Lightning
Somehow the Preds ended up with the second seed, but let's be real. They scored the third lowest point total during the regular season and the luck that saw them reach 9-4 has to run out at some point. The Bolts had a losing record this year but scored more than 900 points. Plus Brady and Gronk have been back to form lately. And the Preds have way too many players going tonight - Thursday night football has not been good to them this year.

#3 Spiked Vipers vs. #6 Baltimorons
SpiVi just beat the 'Morons last week to run their winning streak to a league high four games. In fact, they won both head-to-head matchups this season. But Aaron Rodgers under center for the newlywed means that anything can happen in this third meeting. All those Qs aren't a good sign, but Coach Drew has scored 100 more points this year. And no matter what, a gold starred helmet will win.

#4 Misfits, Inc. vs. #5 Dumbbums
Our third divisional matchup rounds out an amazing group of quarterfinal games. We all know what Peyton Manning can do, but Cam Newton somehow lead FitzCorp to the North Division title. It might come down to MNF and which Falcons' WR can some through for their team. But it might also come down to who is healthy enough to play at all this weekend. Those Ps and Qs are a little scary and could be the difference.

Good luck in the playoffs! The trophy awaits!

3FL Notes: S14: Week 13 Preview

Only one more playoff ticket was punched last week, so we're in for some drama this last week of the season. In addition to our six remaining postseason spots that are up for grabs there are still two division titles in question and multiple 3FL records that could be broken (both league and individual, both good and bad).

Stick around for the thrilling regular season conclusion!

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 97 points

Week 13 Information

Thanksgiving Early: Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving Late: Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
Thanksgiving Night: Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday Night: Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs
Monday Night: Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Predacons (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
This is our only game that is devoid of league-wide drama. The Stompers are already out and the Predacons are already into the playoffs. It's Coach Sinkerbeam's 13th postseason trip in 14 years. Regardless of the outcome of this game, Coach Bev needs to score at least 61 points to keep from adding her name to the list of lowest season total scores of all time.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Our last two SuperBowl champions meet this week to decide a lot of things. A playoff spot and possibly the North Division title are on the line. There is a chance that they will both make the postseason no matter the result, though. That's what scoring over 800 points in the first dozen weeks will do for you.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Renegades
FitzCorp pulled out a stunning victory last Monday night to jump up to the top of the 3FL North. There is, however, an outside chance that they could miss the playoffs. Everything would have to go wrong, but it could happen. As for the Renegades, they need a win here and for everything to go right.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Coach HAW held off a furious comeback attempt by the Bolts last week and secured the #1 seed in the process. But, is that a good thing? The Chair has the same record as four other teams but they are on the outside looking in right now. They need a win but they also need some luck with their RB situation.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The Marauders are officially out of the postseason picture after their fifth loss in a row and seventh in the last eight games. Things haven't gone their way since Big Ben scored all of those points on the bench. The Brew Crew has the opposite problem - they had two of the top three scorers in the league last week (both of their QBs). I'll bet Coach Hoss would be ok ending the season with a W and knocking the Beermen out of the playoffs.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
The winner of this game wins the South Division and is guaranteed a playoff spot. The loser is probably also in but with a much lower seed. Coach Drew has added to their league leading point total and is within reach of earning a top five all-time season total (91 points), but I imagine that a win here would be enough for him.

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week!

3FL Notes: S14: Week 12 Preview

Rivalry Week gave us the fierce battles we expected. It also gave us our lowest scoring week of the year. And no other postseason spots were claimed, leaving us just two weeks for ten teams to battle for seven spots.

Here we go!

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 96 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/B) - 25 points
Mike Evans (WR/TB/SV) - 22 points
Jamaal Charles (RB/KC/P) - 17 points

Week 12 Information

Thursday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Oakland Raiders
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ New Orleans Saints
Bye Week: Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Don't look now, but the 'Morons have outscored the league two weeks in a row (putting up 200+ during that time) and have jumped up into the final playoff spot for now. The Marauders have lost four straight but still have a glimmer of hope for the postseason. This is going to be a great one, all the way through MNF.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The Stompers are the only team that is mathematically eliminated from the postseason at this point, but that doesn't mean they can't play the spoiler for the rest of the season. But SpiVi is set on keeping themselves at the top of the 3FL South and riding a winning streak into the playoffs. The matchups have the same idea.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The Preds managed to climb back up into second place with a win last week, but that doesn't mean that their postseason spot is secured. It (and the division title) could be, though, if they can manage to beat Matt Ryan and the Renegades. Can Jamaal Charles start things off on the right foot on Thursday night?

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Brew Crew is outside of the playoff picture right now, but they are in good shape to move up in the next couple of weeks. A win against the Chair would tie their records but let the Brewers leapfrog them in the standings. This is an even battle but the RBs look like the key. And waiting for the QBs in prime time.

And the games of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. the HAW
This is going to be an amazing battle. The HAW may have lost two in a row (WHAAAT?) but we all know about their regular season streaks. And the Lightning are currently W-5, leading the league in scoring, and are at the top of the all-square 3FL North. Injuries may tip the balance so we'll just have to see who ends up on the field at game time.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Speaking of the tied North Division, its other two members face off in a matchup that will have playoff implications. Bye week fill-ins will be important (thank goodness these are the last byes of the year), but it is probably going to come down to one RB on Sunday Night to decide who jumps ahead in the rankings.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 13, 2014

3FL Notes: S14: Week 11 Preview

The HAW saw their winning streak come to an end last week, but they managed to claim our first playoff spot anyway. We only have three more weeks to decide the other seven.

Get ready to kick off the second round of intra-divisional games with Rivalry Week! It's going to be an exciting end of the season.

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 110 points

Marshawn Lynch (RB/Sea/L) - 32 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Den/D) - 32 points

Week 11 Information

Thursday Night: Buffalo Bills @ Miami Dolphins
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Indianapolis Colts
Monday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Tennessee Titans
Bye Week: Cowboys, Jaguars, Jets, Ravens

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for rivalry week!:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The Bolts are on quite a roll. They are holding the longest current winning streak (at four games) and have crept within four points of the league lead. And somehow they are only 5-5 and in last place in the 3FL North. FitzCorp isn't doing too bad themselves - they have won their last three and are leading that division. But Brady and Gronk are going to decide which streak ends this week.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The CAPS lost last week for only the second time in 18 regular season games. Are they ready to start a new streak? Regardless of the records, this rivalry game is always exciting and this time will be no different. With five combined players (four from the HAW) going on Sunday night, it will be the game to stay up and watch. If you are able to do that sort of thing.

Renegades (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Our two last place teams face off in a divisional battle from a rivalry that goes WAY back. The Renegades have a huge advantage in projected points but we have yet to see who will be starting at RB and WR for the Stompers. Like, if anyone will be actually. It might not be pretty.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Things have leveled out for these two lately and the Chair is coming off of their second blowout loss in the last three weeks. They are both still in good shape for a postseason bid, but a win here would be really helpful in that effort. All eyes will be on Martavis Bryant on MNF.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
What a high-flying battle this is going to be. The Vipers put an end to the HAW's streak last week and ousted the Marauders to claim the top spot in the South division for the first time since week two. Coach Hoss' team has lost their last three and have been on a downhill slide since Roethlisberger was breaking records on their bench. They'll combine to start five players on MNF. Like you need another reason to watch.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Rodgers vs. Manning. That's about all you need to know about this great matchup. The 'Bums jumped up into the 2nd spot in the league last week at the same time the 'Morons were scoring 110 points. They are both capable of putting a ton of points on the board but someone has to lose this one. Or maybe it will be our first tie of the year?

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 06, 2014

3FL Notes: S14: Week 10 Preview

The HAW won again and extended their streak to seven games, and we had two divisional sweeps last week - the North over the West and the East over the South. So, business as usual.

Buckle up for another six teams on a bye this week. Why did they do this again?

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the HAW - 89 points

Player MVPs:
Andrew Luck (QB/Ind/tH) - 31 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE/L) - 28 points
Ryan Tannehill (QB/Mia/YB) - 25 points

Yahoo! Projections: 34/54 - 62.96%

Week 10 Information

Thursday Night: Cleveland Browns @ Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night: Carolina Panthers @ Philadelphia Eagles
Bye Week: Chargers, Colts, Patriots, Redskins, Texans, Vikings

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 10:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
With the suddenly resurgent Tom Brady on a bye, things are primed for a Lightning loss after three straight wins. But the Stompers have their own bye problems. And they seem to only be able to beat teams in the top two spots of the standings.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Coach HAW came back from a 28 point deficit on Monday night and ended up outscoring the rest of the league. In fact, his three MNF players scored as many (or more) points as any of the 3FL West's entire teams in week nine. The CAPS are hit hard with the bye this week but so are the Vipers. And even though they are trotting out Kyle Orton and a RB to be named later, why would you bet against a team that is 17-1 in their last 18 regular season games?

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Renegades
It looks like Big Ben is going to get the start after scoring 86 points while sitting on the bench during the last two Marauders' losses. But 6 TDs won't happen again this week and the Renegades will give them a run for their money with Matt Ryan back behind center. Coach Val needs a victory here to have a shot at the postseason.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The 'Bums could overtake the Preds in the rankings with a head-to-head win in this rematch of Super Bowl XIII. Peyton Manning gets to feast on Oakland's Defense while Coach Sinkerbeam gets to choose between Mark Sanchez and Jay Cutler. Plus, he has a little too much riding on the mediocre Thursday night matchup.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
After all of this silly bye week talk, can you believe that the 'Morons don't have a single player with a week off for this matchup? That will surely help them against the Furniture and the RBs are the story here. As long as Aaron Rodgers throws TDs to someone other than Jordy Nelson on SNF.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
This one is turning out to be relatively equal across the board. The matchups even out and they both have relatively even bye week issues. The Brew Crew will have to be on top of some game time injury statuses, so the edge goes to the Corporation. As long as they choose the right starting QB.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 30, 2014

3FL Notes: S14: Week 9 Preview

The HAW continued their streak and we saw another divisional sweep (this time a Civil War reenactment of the North over the South). And the league topped itself again this year with a new 4th all-time weekly scoring total.

With six NFL teams on a bye this week it will be interesting to see who ends up in everyone's starting lineups.

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 117 points

Player MVPs:
Tom Brady (QB/NE/L) - 37 points
Miami Dolphins Defense (tH) - 27 points
Arian Foster (RB/Hou/SS) - 26 points

Week 9 Information

Thursday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Carolina Panthers
Sunday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ New York Giants
Bye Week: Bears, Bills, Falcons, Lions, Packers, Titans

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Cam Newton appears to be back in the board room, and his performance on Thursday night could make or break this one. The Preds have all of their players going at 1pm on Sunday and they'll have to just watch and hope again on MNF. For some reason that has worked more often than not this year.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The bolts came within two points of making the list of top weekly scores of all time. If only Sammy Watkins had waited five more yards to celebrate. Anyway, these two may have the same record but they are going in opposite directions. And they both continue those ways.

the HAW (-1) vs. Baltimorons
Coach HAW has now won 6 in a row and 15 of his last 16 in the regular season. You can go ahead and pencil in another one. Of course he gets the 'Morons when Aaron Rodgers in on a bye (and they have no backup yet on the roster). It's not going to be pretty.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The Stompers finally broke out last week, scoring 95 points and posting the biggest blowout too. Don't expect those numbers again, as half of their players are on a bye and their backup QB doesn't even start for his NFL team anymore. Also, they're playing against Peyton Manning.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Edge to the Vipers since Tony Romo is hurt once again and both of the Brew Crew's staring RBs are on a bye. SpiVi is starting the Steelers D against the Ravens on Sunday night and the Brewers have 2 going on Monday, so this one is going to stretch out the week and make us wait to find out the winner.

And the game of the week...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
You'd think that scoring 92 points in a 3FL game would most likely earn you a victory, but Coach Hoss did just that last week and lost. By 25 points. Let's also mention the fact that Big Ben scored 46 points while sitting on the Marauders' bench. That would have been tied for second all-time if he was playing. But, be honest, he wouldn't have been in your starting lineup either. As for this game, it's going to come down to the wire in prime time. Should be a good one.

Happy Halloween and good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S14: Week 8 Preview

Another week, another divisional sweep. This time it was the South over the West. And we saw two streaks continue - the HAW's 5-game winning streak and the Stompers' 5-game losing streak.

Remember that there is an early morning game on Sunday this week. The NFL decided that it would be a good idea to have another game at Wembley Stadium, this time at 9:30am EDT.

Week 7 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 91 points

Player MVPs:
Peyton Manning (QB/Den/D) - 30 points
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea/M) - 29 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/B) - 24 points

The Comm-nosticator: 28/42 - 66.67%
League Voting: 26/42 - 61.90%
Yahoo! Projections: 27/42 - 64.29%

Coach Sinkerbeam and the league were both 6/6 in week 7 voting

Week 8 Information

Thursday Night: San Diego Chargers @ Denver Broncos
Sunday Morning: Detroit Lions @ Atlanta Falcons
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ New Orleans Saints
Monday Night: Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys
Bye Week: New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 8:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Brady and Wilson seem to be back into form lately, and they'll face off in one of our better matchups this week. With a combined 13 players having either a P or Q beside their name we'll have to be paying attention during warmups to see who actually ends up on the field.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Is it about time for FitzCorp to break out? They have scored less than their projected total for the past three weeks in a row. Maybe the QB switch is the answer for a turnaround. On the other side, it seems like Aaron Rodgers is on the MVP list every week, doesn't it? No controversy there. But the 'Morons will need to decide on a Kicker.

the HAW (-1) vs. Renegades
The CAPS have escaped their past two games with 1 point victories. This week Yahoo! is projecting a HAW win of 20 points and it might not be too far off. That would make 6 in a row and 15 of their last 16 in the regular season.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The sneaky Chair has jumped up into the #2 spot in the league. Not too many of the pundits saw that one coming. Meanwhile, the Stompers need a victory here to have any chance at the playoffs. It's never too late to start a streak.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
It looks like Jimmy Graham may hold the key to this one. Will he play? How much? The QB head-to-head matchup tonight will be a great start to a game that will last from Thursday all the way until Monday.

And the game of the week...

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Jay Cutler finally got the chance to start for the Preds last week and he turned in by far his worst game of the year. So does that mean Nick Foles has his job back? Coach Sinkerbeam is bound to choose the wrong one. And everyone will have to watch Tony Romo on MNF to see if he can mount a comeback. Ugh.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S14: Week 7 Preview

The NFL saw its first tie of the season last week and we almost had one, too (until stat corrections). And the East division continued its string of dominance, finishing the trifecta and sweeping the South to run its three members' collective winning streak to 10 games.

Don't look now, but we're halfway through our regular season.

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 83 points

Player MVPs:
Cam Newton (QB/Car/MI) - 26 points
Philip Rivers (QB/SD/SV) - 24 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/B) - 24 points

Note: Remember that only active players can be MVPs - 3 of the top 4 scorers in the league were sitting on a 3FL bench in week 6.

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 23/36 - 63.89%
League Voting: 20/36 - 55.56%
Yahoo! Projections: 22/36 - 61.11%

Week 7 Information

Thursday Night: New York Jets @ New England Patriots
Sunday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night: Houston Texans @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Bye Week: Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The rematch of our FMLB World Series happens this week but it's looking like it will have the opposite outcome. Tim-A's Tim-A's (seriously) held aloft our fantasy baseball trophy a few weeks ago, but with the bye week lining up for the Eagles the edge goes to the sneaky good Chair.

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The Stompers are having a tough go this season and have lost their last four in a row. Of course, the 'Morons aren't doing much better. But they have Aaron Rodgers. He may outscore Coach Bev's squad by himself.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Don't look now, but the HAW has lost exactly once in their last 14 regular season games. That goes all the way back to week 6 of last season (when their capital letters were the opposite of now). The 'Bums and Peyton Manning would like nothing more than to hand out a loss but it won't be easy. Sunday night's game looms large, but the Steelers on MNF could flip the script.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
It makes no sense, but the Preds are eleventh in scoring but 5-1 and second in the standings. The Marauders are second in scoring but are only .500 this year. The starting QBs may once again be the difference for Coach Hoss but the Predacons don't have to worry about that. There is only one choice with Nick Foles on a bye.

Lightning (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
After a rough start to the season the Brewers have climbed back to respectability, winning their last three in a row and outscoring everyone else during that time period. Things look like they'll cool back down against Tom Brady and the Bolts as they're up against some tough matchups.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
With a combined 5 P's, 4 Q's and 3 byes it won't be pretty, but this one looks like our most exciting battle this week. SpiVi seems to have the matchup edge but the Renegades are holding out hope that things aren't out of hand by the time Sunday Night Football rolls around. Of course that's past Coach Val's bedtime on a school night.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 09, 2014

3FL Notes: S14: Week 6 Preview

The HAW jump into the top spot this week after winning their third game in a row. They also led the East's second divisional sweep in a row, this time combining with the Chair and Brewers to outscore their West division opponents by a total of 229-151.

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 94 points

Player MVPs:
Peyton Manning (QB/Den/D) - 29 points
Demaryius Thomas (WR/Den/tH) - 23 points
Philadelphia Eagles Defense (YB) - 22 points

Player MVPs now include their 3FL team (last abbreviation).
D=Dumbbums. tH=the HAW. You get the idea. Hat tip to Coach Skrabby.

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 19/30 - 63.33%
League Voting: 17/30 - 56.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 18/30 - 60%

Go vote before the Thursday night game!

Week 6 Information

Thursday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles
Monday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams
Bye Week: Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Predacons
These two have had opposite luck so far. You'd never know that the 1-4 Bolts have outscored the Preds by an average of 10+ points per week. It will all come down to Sunday night when the final two players for each team face off. Will their respective luck continue?

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Sunday night looms large in this one as well, but even more important will be if the 'Morons hit the waiver wire for a kicker. And if Houston can regain their Defensive form tonight.

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Renegades
The 'Bums don't have a single player on a bye this week so things are looking good for them, and it doesn't hurt that the Renegades are having some mid-week injury issues. Also, Peyton Manning.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
You would think that having Drew Brees on a bye might hurt your chance at a win, but when Jimmy Graham is on the other team things end up evening out. And with all of the Ps and Qs (and Os) between these two, good luck figuring out who has the edge.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
At least one of these two gets to halt their three game losing streak this week. FitzCorp seems to have the best shot at their first win in a month - as long as they can find a TE who is healthy enough to actually play in his game.

And the game of the week...

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This battle between our two top scoring teams is really too close to call. We'll know a lot more after the Thursday night game, but we'll have to wait until MNF to see if the CAPS can secure the comeback. Will the Marauders' QB switch be the right call? It might make the difference again.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 02, 2014

3FL Notes: S14: Week 5 Preview

Our only remaining winless team outscored the rest of the league in week 4, so everyone has now earned at least one victory. Last week's league total was our fourth highest of all time - and that was with five players scoring negative points.

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 93 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 30 points
Andrew Luck (QB/Ind) - 29 points
Philip Rivers (QB/SD) - 25 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 15/24 - 62.50%
League Voting: 12/24 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 15/24 - 62.50%

Week 5 Information

Thursday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers
Sunday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ New England Patriots
Monday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ Washington Redskins
Bye Week: Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Lightning
I know it's early, but the losing team in this one is going to end up 1-4 with an uphill climb for a postseason spot. Their point totals are almost exactly the same so far but it looks like it will come down to QB play this week. That's not good news for Tom Brady and the Bolts.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
An even matchup all the way, we'll get a hint of things to come after the Thursday night game. Then things are spread out all the way until Monday night. The edge goes to FitzCorp because I'm sure at least one of the Vipers' players will end up out with their injury.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Our fight for last place might just be the most entertaining game of the week. The Brewers came back to life last week and scored the most points in the league, while the Stompers are coming off of two straight weeks of putting up 40 or less. Coach Bev has at least one player in every time slot but it going to be an uphill battle.

the HAW (-1) vs. Predacons
Jamaal Charles scored his first fantasy points of the season last week, putting the rest of the Preds on his back and leading them to an improbable comeback victory to stay unbeaten. That type of luck will change this week, when Andrew Luck and the CAPS continue their high scoring ways.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Peyton Manning is back from his bye week, but the 'Bums are going to need all the help they can get as the top scoring Marauders come to town. Coach Hoss' team is on pace to score 1000 points this year and it doesn't seem to matter which QB they choose. Is this the week that makes the difference?

And the game of the week...

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs Renegades
A good matchup from the start, this one will focus on the high-flying QBs and boom-or-bust TEs. It will definitely go down to the wire with all eyes on MNF as Seattle's D tries to complete the comfy comeback.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S14: Week 4 Preview

After three weeks we only have one undefeated and one winless team left. Can they both keep up their respective luck?

Remember that the byes are starting! It's time to decide whom you can afford to keep on your active roster.

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 86 points

Player MVPs:
Andrew Luck (QB/Ind) - 31 points
Nick Foles (QB/Phi) - 24 points
Matt Ryan (QB/Atl) - 23 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 10/18 - 55.56%
League Voting: 8/18 - 44.44%
Yahoo! Projections: 11/18 - 61.11%

I know the Thursday deadline every week is silly, but go vote!

Week 4 Information
Thursday Night: New York Giants @ Washington Redskins
Sunday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: New England Patriots @ Kansas City Chiefs
Bye Week: Arizona, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, St. Louis, Seattle

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Big Ben is back under center for Coach Hoss (because of a bye), but did you know that his Marauders are our second highest scoring team? The Stompers were out of sorts last week and have a lot of Q's to deal with. But Matthew Stafford won't be in the negatives again.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
This matchup of two division leaders will be a good one. The top scoring HAW look to continue their high-flying ways while FitzCorp hope that Julian Edelman can bring them back on MNF. Bye weeks play a big factor here.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
I seriously forgot how much I dislike these Thursday night games. It's difficult to prognosticate the winner of a game when there are bye week players in the staring lineups and the waiver wire is yet to be visited. So...Matt Ryan vs. Minnesota tips the scales in his direction.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Between the byes and the injuries, the Comfy bench is going to score zero points this week. But those players don't count anyway. This one will depend on their QBs prime time performances.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds are undefeated but that's about to change. They can't play against the lowest scoring team every week, right? And with Cincinnati on a bye they might just be the one to end up with our lowest total in W4.

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
With Peyton Manning on a bye, things are primed for the struggling Brew Crew to pick up their first win. They'll still need a little luck and a little paying attention for that to happen (breaking news: your starting TE is out for the season). If not I'm changing my prediction.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S14: Week 3 Preview

The injuries piled up this week, knocking out a bunch of skill players and affecting many of our teams for weeks to come. Who will you pick up to fill in?

Get ready for the last of our first set of intra-divisional games and the final full-roster games before the bye weeks start!

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 96 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 25 points
New England Patriots Defense - 25 points
Philip Rivers (QB/SD) - 23 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 6/12 - 50%
League Voting: 4/12 - 33.33%

Week 3 Information

Thursday Night: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Atlanta Falcons
Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Carolina Panthers
Monday Night: Chicago Bears @ New York Jets
Bye Week: None until next week

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Three of the Preds four drafted RBs are out for multiple weeks and there is a QB controversy brewing. But somehow they keep getting lucky and playing a low scoring team. Can that continue for a third week in a row?

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
It will all come together for the winless Bolts this week, as Tom Brady finally runs up the score and Chicago's D seals their first victory on MNF. Unless Peyton Manning can break through in Seattle and the Steelers look better on Sunday night...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Coach Hoss looks to be finally replacing Big Ben at QB, but it's not easy for a team to overcome their first pick being suspended (then reinstated, then suspended again). FitzCorp is atop the league and looking strong despite 5 P's and 2 Q's. Look for it to go down the wire on MNF.

the HAW (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
Coach HAW's regular season winning streak was halted at 9 games last week but he'll start a new one against the Chair in W3. Wes Welker's return won't be quite enough to offset some tough matchups.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Brew Crew have struggled so far this season. I know it's early, but they are on pace to shatter our lowest team points in a season record (both total and average). Yikes. Things won't be as bad this week but the Renegades will still grab a much needed victory.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
What a matchup this one is going to be. The 'Morons are technically at the top of the 3FL South but the Vipers have a better overall spot. All eyes will be on Brandon Marshall on MNF to see if he can finish the comeback for Coach Drew's team. What a way to end our first set of divisional games!

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S14: Week 2 Preview

The HAW almost hit the century mark and underdogs ruled our opening weekend. What happens next?

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the HAW - 98 points

Player MVPs:
Matt Ryan (QB/Atl) - 26 points
Matthew Stafford (QB/Det) - 26 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Den) - 23 points
Julius Thomas (TE/Den) - 23 points

The Comm-nosticator: 4/6 - 66.67%
League Voting: 3/6 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 2/6 - 33.33%

Go vote!

Week 2 Information

Thursday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Baltimore Ravens
Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ San Francisco 49ers
Monday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Indianapolis Colts
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Coach Drew's bench outscored his starters last week. I'm not joking. That probably won't happen again, and Aaron Rodgers will rebound, but who are their RBs going to be? The Marauders will try to pile up Thursday night points to go 2-0 in the 3FL South.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Neither of these teams can afford to go 0-2 to start the season, so this game is important. Gronkowski's health once again holds the key, but the Chicago Defense on Sunday night will seal the deal.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Chair wasn't great last week, but they managed to more than double the Brew Crew's week one total. Of course this is a different matchup, but there are just too many injuries for the Beermen to overcome.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
There is no doubt that Peyton Manning is going to carve up the Chiefs - we just need to see how many points he can score. Cam Newton is again in doubt for FitzCorp but that didn't stop them last week. And they'll get to watch their Eagles secure the comeback win on MNF.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Predacons
This one is for the early West Divison lead and it looks to be a great matchup. The game will hinge on the Matt Ryan vs. Cinci D results, but the Preds have all of those P's and Q's (and O's).

And the game of the week...

the HAW (1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Coach HAW's team came out to a blazing start in week one, outscoring the league and leaving no doubt about the W. This week will be different, though, as the matchups seem to favor the Stompers. The HAW are riding a 9-game regular season winning streak into this weekend. Will MNF make it 10?

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S14: Week 1 Preview

Can the Dumbbums defend the trophy? Will half of the league keep the gold helmets with the black star? Does anyone remember their twitter password? Only the 3FL season will have these answers...

It all starts tonight!
Remember to have your starting lineups set 5 minutes before the games begin this week. Any players in the Packers vs. Seahawks game will be locked in whichever lineup position you have them at 8:25pm EDT tomorrow night.

Coach Thadtotti once again crafted our customized schedule. Divisional games will be played in weeks 1-3 and 11-13 and week 11 will be our rivalry week. Thanks, SpreadsheetGeek.

Voting is up and running for the season. Make sure you vote on all the 3FL games before the beginning of tomorrow night's NFL game.

Here we go!

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Seattle Seahawks
Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night Early: New York Giants @ Detroit Lions
Monday Night Late: San Diego Chargers @ Arizona Cardinals
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Our season starts out with a bang as these two rivals face off again as divisional foes. The matchup can't get any closer and it will come down to Detroit's performance on MNF. But the Renegades hope to have things out of hand by what happens on Sunday night.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Chair has plans to jump out to a big lead on Thursday night, but will it be enough? This looks to be quite the QB matchup and it will last long into the Monday night Pacific breeze.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The Preds players are all active at 1pm EDT on Sunday. The 'Morons have at least one player in almost all of the possible game times, stretching out week one from Thursday all the way until early Tuesday morning. This should be a tight one thanks to Aaron Rodgers in the first game of the season.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This game will be 17/18ths over on Sunday at 7:30pm. Then we'll all watch Philip Rivers lead the Vipers to a come from behind victory. Despite the Big Ben/Antonio Brown hook up on the other side of the column.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Coach Haw switched up the capitals in his team name this year, so you're not seeing things. The emPHASIS is on the other syllABLE. Anyway, This first matchup in the East will be a good one. It's just that Crabtree is suddenly injured again. And, you know, Tony Romo.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
This is looking like the perfect GotW to start the season. Both teams start out with players on Thursday, but the deciding factor will be the head-to-head matchup on Sunday night. Will Gronkowski be ready to play? That could really be the difference.

Good luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 14!

3FL Notes: 2014 Draft Analysis

All but one of our teams was represented during the online draft on Thursday night. Here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. Misfits, Inc.: FitzCorp had the opening pick for the second year in a row, and the experience paid off. LeSean McCoy was an easy overall #1 but Cam Newton holds the future of the Corporation in his hands. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

2. Dumbbums: Coach Coaldog had to draft his own team this year but things didn't turn out too bad. Enough to repeat as champion? We'll see. He did reach above ADP for more than half of his picks. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

3. The Comfy Chair: After taking Drew Brees with the 3rd overall pick, the Chair shifted their focus to D and K at the expense of WR and RB. An interesting draft strategy for sure. I do know that this would have been an amazing team in 2011. Grade: C- (Yahoo! Grade: C)

4. Baltimorons: Unfortunately Coach Drew was unable to join the live draft on his iPad with the resort wifi and had to enjoy his honeymoon instead. At least he could login to the chat part and let us know about his struggle. He probably would have at least chosen a kicker if he was in charge. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: C+)

5. Predacons: The Preds draft strategy went out the window after the run on QBs in the first 4 picks. Their team ended up pretty balanced but not anything like they planned. Maybe just good enough to lose the SuperBowl again? Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

6. Stiletto Stompers: Roommate Emily was tasked with drafting for a busy Coach Bev this year. And chatting with everyone. After reaching for a QB in the first round, she actually did a pretty good job filling in the rest of the team. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B)

7. Marauders: Coach Hoss put together quite a strong team this year, in spite of a plethora of Steelers. Yahoo! is only expecting the Marauders to earn 3 wins this season, but come on. RBs FOR DAYS. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B-)

8. Spiked Vipers: We all know that SpiVi likes drafting TEs and Defenses early, but this year they also snagged the Toyota Best Draft award. However, their Kicker is suspended for the first quarter of the season and you've never heard of a bunch of their backups, so that superlative is debatable. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B+)

9. Renegades: Coach Val made the first few picks and then turned over the reins to Coach Greg, so the blame can be spread around the ownership group. Seriously, though, after reaching for a QB on the first pick the team turned out ok. They just can't afford to have anyone get hurt. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: C+)

10. Lightning: The Bolts spreadsheet was (reportedly) finished very late this year, perhaps prompting the choice of the sixth QB in our first ten picks. And then Johnny Manziel? Half of the team is very good, but the other half is going to need some luck. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B)

11. the HAW: The HAW went WR-WR with their first two picks, giving them the strongest corps in the league. The rest of the team is surprisingly good but there is an obvious gap at RB. Could a trade be in the near future? Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B-)

12. Yuengling Brewers: Leave it to the Brew Crew to go to sleep and let the AutoDraft feature give them another great team. We've seen this strategy before. Getting the consensus numbers 4 and 5 players with the last pick? Seriously. At least they have to suffer through watching Tony Romo. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions soon. Stay tuned.

Using the updated double-secret reverse reveal draft pick method and some left over Christmas card envelopes, the draft order for the 2014 season of the 3FL has been chosen. Five-sixths of the teams in the league were present during the selection process.

2014 3FL Draft Order

1. Misfits, Inc. (again!)
2. Dumbbums
3. The Comfy Chair
4. Baltimorons
5. Predacons
6. Stiletto Stompers
7. Marauders

4  -  .474
5  -  .471
1  -  .468
11  -  .464
8  -  .456

Giving us the following four divisions:

NORTH
Lightning, Dumbbums, Misfits, Inc.

EAST
Yuengling Brewers, The Comfy Chair, THE Haw

WEST
Stiletto Stompers, Renegades, Predacons

SOUTH
Marauders, Baltimorons, Spiked Vipers

Possible rule changes are being taken into consideration and will be put to a vote during training camp. We will tentatively hold the live online draft at 9:00pm on Thursday, August 28, 2014.

Have a great off-season!
