3FL Notes: S15: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

Semifinals week saw another MNF comeback and the curse of the #1 seed struck again. It was also our highest playoff week point total ever, crushing our old record by 67 points. In fact, our week 15 total (8 teams) beat 2 different regular season weekly totals from this year (12 teams).

We're almost assured of breaking more league playoff records this week and we've got a title to hand out! Whose name will be etched upon the trophy? We'll have to stay up for Monday Night Football to find out.

Week 15 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 102 points (T-5th all-time)

Cam Newton (QB/Car/MI) - 39 points (T-2nd all-time)

Week 16 Information
Thursday Night: San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders
Saturday Night: Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Minnesota Vikings
Monday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ Denver Broncos

Here we go...it's SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#6 Misfits, Inc. vs. #8 Yuengling Brewers
These teams have put up a lot of postseason points to end up fighting for seventh place. We all know about FitzCorp's third playoff tiebreaker loss, but the Brew Crew came within three points of beating our top seed and then scored 95 points last week only to fall short by three again. It's looking like the matchups favor the Corporation and they have a good chance to at least pick up one playoff win and send the Brewers to a L5 to start the 2016 season.

For 5th Place:
#4 the HAW vs. #7 Lightning
It was one week too late for the CAPS, who put up 98 in the semis even with Roethlisberger on the bench. The Bolts put up their highest total of the year last week so now they'll face off to win the consolation bracket. The HAW have four players in the Steelers/Ravens game and there will be a player in each of the NFL time slots all week so the drama will be spread out, but all of those Qs don't bode well for the Lightning.

For 3rd Place:
#1 Phys. Ed. Phenoms vs. #3 Marauders
The curse strikes again as the Phenoms were dealt their first loss since week one. Week one! It was quite an inaugural season for PEP and it took a big MNF comeback for them to end up in this game. Meanwhile the Marauders ran into the hottest team in the league and there wasn't much they could do facing 100+ points against. It's possible they could hand the Phenoms a second loss in as many weeks but the Odell Beckham suspension and makes that much more difficult.

3FL SuperBowl XV
#2 Baltimorons vs. #5 Predacons
The 'Morons are in the big game for a second straight year but they are hoping for a different result from the record setting low score they posted in 2014. That shouldn't be a problem for this high-flying squad as they have outscored the league for three straight weeks and are on pace to shatter the playoff team points record. This is the fourth SuperBowl appearance for both of these teams, with the 'Morons already winning two titles. The Predacons have yet to win a championship. Don't count them out though; they were actually the third highest scoring team this season.

The week will be compressed as neither team has a player on Thursday or Saturday night, so everything will be concentrated on Sunday (with just a K on MNF). The 'Morons will come into the game as the favorite by a few points and it should be a fun matchup to watch.

Is the fourth time a charm for the Predacons? Will the Baltimorons continue their amazing point totals for one more week? Whose holiday season will include the late gift of championship hardware? We've got one weekend to find out.

Merry Christmas and good luck this week!

Thanks to all for another fun season!!

3FL Notes: S15: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

WOW. If I wasn't watching the MNF game I wouldn't have believed it. Odell Beckham, Jr. brought the Marauders all the way back into a tie with FitzCorp, and we had to go to the second tiebreaker to determine our winner. The semifinals should be just as exciting.

All individual team pages (see links on the sidebar) and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2015 regular season. This year's additions to the records page are in bold. Through 1,188 regular season games we have scored a combined 144,621 points.

Don't forget about the Saturday night game this week (in addition to Thursday night). Make sure your lineup is set.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 99 points

Sunday Night: Arizona Cardinals @ Philadelphia Eagles
Monday Night: Detroit Lions @ New Orleans Saints

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl XV, losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 Phys. Ed. Phenoms vs. #5 Predacons
The Phenoms continue to roll this year even though they did get a scare from the Brew Crew last week. Let's use this space to remind everyone that Coach GregW is in his first season at the helm of a team. He has also won eight straight games and doesn't have a loss since the first week of the season. They are the top seed and seemingly the team of destiny. The Preds have been to the semis eight times in fifteen seasons. And both of these teams have the same amount of 3FL titles.

#2 Baltimorons vs. #3 Marauders
After a little mid-season hiccup, the 'Morons are back to full steam. They ended up with the highest point total in the regular season and have outscored the rest of the league the last two weeks in a row. Can they make it three? The Marauders saw an exciting MNF comeback end with a tiebreaker and a shot at another SuperBowl birth. Can they do it again? If so it will have to be Michael Floyd on Sunday night instead.

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#6 Misfits, Inc. vs. #7 Lightning
One yard. That's the difference between FitzCorp still being in the championship bracket and playing here instead. Or one missed field goal. Take your pick. Either way the hard luck continues for the Corporation for a fifteenth straight season. The Bolts ended up at the wrong end of the biggest blowout for a second straight week. That's not a good thing to have happen in the postseason. On a positive note this will be an exciting game against two even teams.

#4 the HAW vs. #8 Yuengling Brewers
The Steelers put up a lot of points last week, but very few of them were attached to members of the HAW. It's hard to advance when your team scores only 33 points (their lowest total since facing the Brew Crew in rivalry week). Speaking of the Beermen, they almost completed an amazing comeback against the #1 seed but they came up three points short. Will Big Ben play this week? Can the Brewers beat the HAW twice in one season?

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl awaits!

Thursday, December 10, 2015

3FL Notes: S15: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

The Phenoms ended their inaugural season with another win, making it seven in a row to end the season. They know about the curse, right? In other news there was some reshuffling of our playoff seeds back to what seems to be appropriate.

Remember that ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 1pm THIS SUNDAY, December 13th. Under our newly elected playoff rules you will be allowed to make 1 add/drop per week once the postseason starts, but only teams still in the winners bracket will be eligible to make a move (with waivers set in reverse order of seeding).

Three wins in a row wins it all!!

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 108 points

Player MVPs:
Blake Bortles (QB/Jax/SS) - 36 points
Cam Newton (QB/Car/MI) - 26 points
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit/tH) - 33 points

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Arizona Cardinals
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Houston Texans
Monday Night: New York Giants @ Miami Dolphins

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Phys. Ed. Phenoms vs. #8 Yuengling Brewers
WOW. The Phenoms carved up the league in their first season, ending up with our top seed and the best season record in four years. Their only loss came all the way back in week one and they are currently riding a seven game winning streak. The Brew Crew is at the other end of the spectrum, limping into the postseason with the worst qualifying record in eight years. They have also lost their last two in a row and four of their last five. But while this game doesn't sound like it will be exciting, let's remember that the curse doesn't take these sort of things into consideration.

#2 Baltimorons vs. #7 Lightning
After a scorching start and a reality check in the middle of the season, the 'Morons scored in the triple digits last week and retook the points lead to finish the season. These two split their divisional games this season but the matchups this week favor Coach Drew. The Bolts only hope will be a breakout game by Tannehill on MNF.

#3 Marauders vs. #6 Misfits, Inc.
This one is another divisional matchup and a repeat of a game from last week. FitzCorp would be happy with that same result (an 11 point victory) but I'm sure they'd settle for a win by any amount. Coach Hoss has actually lost three straight since wrapping up the South Division title and his team is the underdogs in this one. Can Cam Newton keep up his points pace? Or will Tom Brady get back on track and pull a Sunday night upset?

#4 the HAW vs. #5 Predacons
The Preds saw Darren McFadden score an unlikely late TD last Monday night to secure the five seed (by three points) and face the HAW. We know they will probably choose the wrong QB and at least one wrong WR, but can they beat the four-time champs anyway? This season has been uneven for the CAPS even though they secured a top four seed and another division title. They have a lot of Ps and Qs but Big Ben and Antonio Brown have the ability to score enough points for a whole team.

Good luck in the playoffs! The trophy awaits!

Thursday, December 03, 2015

3FL Notes: S15: Week 13 Preview

I told you there would still be drama. Five of six higher seeds lost last week, changing up the playoff picture and making things even more interesting for our final week before the playoffs begin. We even have a few season records that can still be broken, so stick around for our regular season finale.

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 117 points

Player MVPs:
Matthew Stafford (QB/Det/P) - 36 points
Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB/NYJ/SV) - 30 points
Philip Rivers (QB/SD/L) - 30 points

Week 13 Information

Thursday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions
Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Remember back when Coach Drew's team was undefeated and on pace to score the most points ever in one season? Since then they have lost five of their last six and dropped to third in the league. In fact, they aren't even our top scoring team anymore. Speaking of 3FL Records, SpiVi needs to score at least 65 points in this one to keep from adding his name to the list of lowest season total scores of all time. Ugh.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds went off last week, starting with heaps of points on Thanksgiving and not stopping until they scored well into the triple digits. Seems like kind of a waste to do that in week 12 though. PEP has assured themselves the top seed no matter what happens in this one, but who would vote against them? They haven't lost since the first game of the year. Happy curse fighting.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Do you believe the CAPS have fallen all the way down to sixth place in the standings? That's what happens when you lose four of the last five games. Things should pick back up for them this week against the hard luck Renegades though. Then they can concentrate on aiming for their fifth 3FL championship. Why not?

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Both of these teams have scored exactly 690 points so far this year, but for the Stompers it has come too little too late. Still, wouldn't it be fun for Blake Bortles and Adrian Peterson to send the Brew Crew into the playoffs with a 5-7-1 record?

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Thursday night will be the game to watch in this matchup (if your television package gets the NFL Network). Each team has two players going tonight and then we'll finish up with one each during the prime time games. It should be a good battle, but it would have been much better had the 'Bums not started the season with a 1-7 record.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The South Division is already decided and both of these teams are securely in the playoffs already, so there is not much on the line here. But it's looking like our best game of the week. FitzCorp could use a boost before heading into the postseason but they'll have to witness Tom Brady carving up the Eagles on Sunday afternoon. It will come down to one WR each on MNF.

Good luck this week.

Wednesday, November 25, 2015

3FL Notes: S15: Week 12 Preview

For the second year in a row Rivalry Week gave us our lowest scoring total of the season. And all of the postseason spots are now claimed, leaving us two weeks to jockey for position and nothing more.

Don't worry. There's still room for drama. And turkey.

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 79 points

Player MVPs:
Cam Newton (QB/Car/MI) - 34 points
Carson Palmer (QB/Ari/PEP) - 26 points
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea/B) - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 47/66 - 71.21%
League Voting: 40/66 - 60.61%
Yahoo! Projections: 42/66 - 63.64%

Go vote before the early game tomorrow!

Week 12 Information

Thursday Early: Philadelphia Eagles @ Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving Late: Carolina Panthers @ Dallas Cowboys
Thanksgiving Night: Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Cleveland Browns
Bye weeks are over. Thank goodness.

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Predacons
These two have the same record and are just about even in scoring. And they both have qualified for the playoffs yet again. They'll only be fighting for seeding but having a combined eight players going on Thanksgiving will be entertaining.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Phenoms have clinched the West and are on a five game winning streak. In fact, they haven't lost a game since week 1. They know about the curse, right? Are they trying to earn the top seed? Their march continues against SpiVi this week, one week after Coach Nick surprised everyone and outscored the league. That probably won't happen again.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. the HAW
Aaron Rodgers did his best, but his fantasy team is going to miss the playoffs this year. The 'Bums can at least get off to a good start against our defending champs with a big Thursday showing, but this one is going to come down to prime time. It's almost too close to call.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Coach Hoss still has a shot at the top spot in the league but the Stompers have other plans. The matchups actually make this one quite competitive, especially if the Marauders don't get around to swapping out some players before the holiday sneaks up on us.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
So the Brew Crew qualified for the postseason this year, but it's possible that they could end the season with a losing record. The Renegades have had a really down year made worse by watching PEP's run of success. And probably hearing about it constantly. Ugh.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Lighting
The Bolts still have a shot at the North Division and they'll have to go through the 'Morons to get it. Coach Drew finally got back on the winning track last week but saw another RB go down to injury. With 5 Qs and 1 O between them, the winner of this one might be the team who actually sees their players take the field.

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week!

Thursday, November 19, 2015

3FL Notes: S15: Week 11 Preview

Two more postseason spots were claimed and half of the league's six top scoring players were sitting on a bench last week. Now we'll kick off the second round of intra-divisional games with Rivalry Week!

We have five more playoff invites and three weeks to claim them. It's should be an exciting end of the season.

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 78 points

Player MVPs:
Antonio Brown (WR/Pit/tH) - 20 points
Jeremy Langford (RB/Chi/P) - 20 points
Carson Palmer (QB/Ari/PEP) - 19 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 44/60 - 73.33%
League Voting: 37/60 - 61.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 39/60 - 65%

Go vote!!

Week 11 Information

Thursday Night: Tennessee Titans @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ Arizona Cardinals
Monday Night: Buffalo Bills @ New England Patriots
Bye Week: Cleveland, New Orleans, NY Giants, Pittsburgh

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for rivalry week!:

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-2) vs. Renegades
Our newest team allows us to schedule our only spousal rivalry this week, but unfortunately it's not going to be much of a game. Coach Val has four of her top players on a bye while PEP has a full roster of starters and a projected point total in the high seventies. Maybe next year.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
With a win here (which would be their fifth in a row), FitzCorp has a good chance to clinch a playoff spot. Who would have thought that possible after their winless first month of the season? Peyton Manning holds our record for most points ever scored by one player in a week (51 pts. - S13 W1). He scored -8 points last week. That's the worst performance I can remember in our almost 15 year history.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Our defending champs have been a little uneven this year but that didn't stop them from already earning a spot in the postseason. Big Ben and AB are on a bye this week so things will be closer than they should be, even though we all know that this historical rivalry is always competitive.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Ok, that's enough of this. The 'Morons were undefeated and on pace to shatter our season point total record. But four straight losses and a fistful of injuries later their average has dropped completely out of the top five list. A win here would assure a playoff spot but getting back on the winning track would mean a lot more than that.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Don't look now but the Marauders are on a five game winning streak, are only 1/2 game out of first place in the league and have our third highest point total. They kind of snuck up on everyone, no? Both teams have some bye week issues but Tom Brady can cover up a lot of problems. Stay tuned for MNF.

And the game of the week...

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
SpiVi has lost four straight and dropped into last place in the league. They also have the lowest point total (and are on pace to make the list for lowest season total ever). But that doesn't mean they are eliminated from playoff contention, and it definitely doesn't mean that they won't give the Preds a run for their money this week. Coach Sinkerbeam's QB choice could make the difference.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 12, 2015

3FL Notes: S15: Week 10 Preview

The Phenoms continued their run last week, earning another victory and claiming our first playoff spot. The 'Morons and Vipers are still on pace to end up on our season most and least lists, respectively, and injuries will make their last four games even more interesting.

Don't forget that the trade deadline is tomorrow, Friday, November 13th. You know, for trading players between teams.

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 82 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/D) - 32 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO/R) - 29 points
Cam Newton (QB/Car/MI) - 29 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 39/54 - 72.22%
League Voting: 32/54 - 59.26%
Yahoo! Projections: 34/54 - 62.96%

You should go vote now.

Week 10 Information

Thursday Night: Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets
Sunday Night: Arizona Cardinals @ Seattle Seahawks
Monday Night: Houston Texans @ Cincinnati Bengals
Bye Week: Atlanta, Indianapolis, San Diego, San Francisco

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 10:

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
These two combined to leave five empty spaces on their rosters last week. And they both won. They'll need all hands on deck this week, though, as these matchups get more and more important for our bottom four. MNF weighs heavily on the outcome.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds finally broke out last week, outscoring the rest of the league for the first time in a long time and even claiming the biggest blowout. It's doubtful either of those things will happen again this season. The Renegades have been leaning heavily on Drew Brees lately but their matchups this week will get the whole team involved.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
What's going on in HAWville? The CAPS have lost their last two in a row and have fallen all the way down into fourth place. That's almost cause for panic for them, right? Good thing they get SpiVi this week. And without Andrew Luck.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
PEP came through with a MNF comeback in their most important game of the season so far, keeping a hold on the top spot and earning a playoff berth in the process. They have a bunch of players on a bye this week but are still projected to win by double digits. It's almost like they want to deal with the curse.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The winning streak of the Corporation has reached three games and each of those victories has been by more than ten points. The Bolts need a win to avoid getting leapfrogged in the standings, but that's not going to be easy with Philip Rivers on a bye (and most of the rest of the team questionable to play).

And the game of the week...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Remember when the 'Morons were 6-0 and breaking scoring records? They've lost their last three in a row and have lost some important players to injury. The Marauders have won their last four straight and have climbed all the way up into second place. This is looking like a great matchup and everything will come down to Coach Drew's three prime time players.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 05, 2015

3FL Notes: S15: Week 9 Preview

The Phenoms won again and took over the top spot in the league. Can our newest team remain number one for the five weeks left in the regular season?

With six NFL teams on a bye this week it will be interesting to see which players end up in a starting lineup.

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Renegades - 98 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO/R) - 48 points (2nd all-time)
Eli Manning (QB/NYG/YB) - 43 points (T-4th all-time)
Tom Brady (QB/NE/M) - 31 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 34/48 - 70.83%
League Voting: 30/48 - 62.50%
Yahoo! Projections: 33/48 - 68.75%

Seriously, go vote!

Week 9 Information

Thursday Night: Cleveland Browns @ Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Chicago Bears @ San Diego Chargers
Bye Week: Arizona, Baltimore, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Seattle

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Predacons
All of the Preds WRs are Q this week. And even bigger than that, it's looking like only one of their draft picks will make it to the starting lineup. One. Meanwhile the Bolts top 11 picks are still with the team and make up a majority of their starters. That should tell you all you need to know about this one.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Don't look now, but FitzCorp is on the way up. After a terrible start they have won three of their last four and have climbed into our final playoff qualifying spot. The Brew Crew is also doing well lately, but they won't get another record breaking performance from Eli.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Drew Brees scored 48 points last week, coming in second all time for individual player points in one week. He would have beaten three teams by himself. That won't happen again, but the Stompers have a good shot to beat their twin rivals if they actually put active players in their lineup. If not can I change my pick?

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Even though this game features our two lowest ranked teams it should be competitive. The 'Bums have five players on a bye and will need to do some add/drops to fill up their starting roster. SpiVi will rely on a big Monday night comeback for a chance at a win. No matter what happens the loser is going to have trouble earning a playoff spot.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. the HAW
Wow, there are a lot of great games on the schedule this week! Our third and fourth ranked teams go head-to-head in a matchup that will come down to a kicker on MNF. Will Coach Hoss pick the right QB? Is having three Steelers playing for your team a good idea or a bad one? We'll find out.

And the game of the week...

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Our two top teams face off in the GotW this week and it should be a good one. After winning their first six straight the 'Morons have lost two in a row and watched PEP take over the top spot. Coach Drew just lost Le'Veon Bell and Keenan Allen for the season but they'll still put up a fight here. The winner is our outright #1.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S15: Week 8 Preview

The Brew Crew took down the undefeated 'Morons last week, giving every team at least one loss. Don't feel too bad, though, as Coach Drew is still on pace to shatter our season points record.

Be aware that there is ANOTHER game in London this week. Again at 9:30am EST on Sunday. Someone in the NFL offices must like scones.

Week 8 Information

Thursday Night: Miami Dolphins @ New England Patriots
Sunday Morning: Detroit Lions @ Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Carolina Panthers
Bye Week: Buffalo, Jacksonville, Philadelphia, Washington

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 8:

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The Stompers halted their five game losing streak last week and as a reward they get to face the #2 team in the league. PEP hasn't lost since week one and they should win this one, maybe even without replacing their injured WR.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Predacons
We'll know much more about how this one is going to go after tonight's game. Tom Brady is projected to put up 20 points and that might be a conservative estimate. The Preds could have had a win with one different RB choice last week but they won't be that close here.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
Don't look now but FitzCorp just won two of their last three and outscored the league last week, all while sneaking into eighth place. SpiVi hasn't been good at all this year. Some blame can fall on Andrew Luck but some can also fall on inactive players in the starting lineup.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The CAPS only suffered a single loss during Big Ben's injury and they might get him back in the lineup this week. If not, this one will be even closer, as the Bolts have both better RBs back from their byes.

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Renegades
The high-flying 'Morons turned in a real clunker last week and ended up with their first loss of the year. They'll be fine. The Renegades will need to make all of the correct player decisions and get a miracle on Sunday night to make it close.

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The Brewers beat our last undefeated team so they're riding high into week eight. The 'Bums on the other hand have had some trouble this season. They're in last place and they need to start winning if they want a chance at the postseason. They'll have Aaron Rodgers back this week, but let's be honest, he's only delivered one win so far...

Happy Halloween and good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S15: Week 7 Preview

Another tie? That was quite a GotW. The 'Morons remain undefeated while a third of the league has managed only a single win so far. What a weird first half of the regular season.

Speaking of weird, don't forget there is another early Sunday morning London game this week.

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team:
Baltimorons/Marauders - 87 points

Player MVPs:
Matthew Stafford (QB/Det/P) - 31 points
Andrew Luck (QB/Ind/SV) - 25 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE/M) - 22 points
Philip Rivers (QB/SD/L) - 22 points

Week 7 Information

Thursday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday Morning: Buffalo Bills @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Carolina Panthers
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Arizona Cardinals
Bye Week: Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver, Green Bay

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Move along, nothing to see here. The 'Morons will keep rolling this week and move their winning streak to seven games as they play the questionable Brew Crew. Questionable as in all of their WRs have a Q beside them. And Coach Drew replaced all of his bye week players with guys who might be even better.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The CAPS were pretty lucky to come away with a high scoring tie to stay in third place. They should have an easier time with the Preds, who saw Matthew Stafford wake up last week but shouldn't expect to score 80 points again. Especially since both of their starting RBs are questionable to play.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Dumbbums
After six weeks of games, these two have the same record and are separated by just one total point. They are also the bottom two in the standings. I know it's still relatively early, but the loser here is going to have a tough time getting into the playoffs.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Lighting
PEP earned a tie after a big MNF comeback last week, but they probably won't need the same heroics in this one. Bye weeks are hitting the Lightning hard and they're going to need to do some add/dropping just to fill up their lineup.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Seriously, are all the kickers on a bye this week? This game will be closer than advertised because of the player matchups so don't rule out an exciting prime time comeback by Coach Val's squad. And isn't it about time for Tom Brady to stop being angry with everyone?

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
SpiVi is on pace to score the lowest point total EVER in a season. So far this year they have put themselves in the record books for lowest weekly total...twice. And yet they currently occupy the final playoff spot. I don't understand it either, but it doesn't matter. The difference here will be which Eagles backup RB exceeds expectations.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S15: Week 6 Preview

Another win for the red hot Baltimorons highlighted an interesting week in the 3FL. And the Spiked Vipers knocked their week 2 effort off of the lowest scores list by scoring even fewer points. Yikes.

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Phys. Ed. Phenoms - 88 points

Player MVPs:
Doug Martin (RB/TB/MI) - 25 points
Eli Manning (QB/NYG/YB) - 24 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE/M) - 23 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 22/30 - 73.33%

Week 6 Information

Thursday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Indianapolis Colts
Monday Night: New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles
Bye Week: Cowboys, Raiders, Rams, Buccaneers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Brew Crew can hop over the Preds in the standings with a win here and that's looking easier than you might think. After losing his #1 draft pick for the year last week, Coach Sinkerbeam now trots out a lineup that features six Qs. Ouch.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The 'Morons are looking strong after five wins in five weeks and are on pace to crush our scoring record for the year. So playing against the one win Corporation should be no problem, right? We all know that anything can happen in the 3FL. And Coach Tim-A should have fun watching the Eagles on MNF anyway.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
With their scoring total the Stompers really deserve better than a single win and a four game losing streak. Although, they would have earned a win last week just by swapping out their bye week RB. The Bolts will see a full lineup this week but they'll have the prime time edge.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Let's be honest - SpiVi has been terrible this season. Two times on the lowest scoring week list in the first five games is unprecedented and starting inactive players doesn't help. They'll score more than 13 points this week (thanks to the return of Andrew Luck) and just might have enough to double their win total.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Our two top scoring players will face off in this game. And one of them will be on the bench. Tom Brady is fourth, but only because he has already had his bye week. There will be fireworks at QB but which supporting cast will step up?

And the game of the week...

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. the HAW
Our second and third place teams face off in what should be a great matchup. The CAPS have had a revolving door under center since the injury to Big Ben and that could be the difference. We'll have a good idea on how this will turn out after Thursday night.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S15: Week 5 Preview

After four weeks we're down to one undefeated and one winless team. Will their fortunes change this week?

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 90 points

Player MVPs:
Devonta Freeman (RB/Atl/B) - 25 points
Philip Rivers (QB/SD/L) - 25 points
Jeremy Hill (RB/Cin/L) - 22 points

Week 5 Information

Thursday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans
Sunday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ New York Giants
Monday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ San Diego Chargers
Bye Week: Panthers, Dolphins, Vikings, Jets

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The CAPS winning streak was halted at eight last week by the buzzsaw known as the 'Morons. But Coach HAW looks to start a new one against the unlucky Stompers. Did you know that both teams have scored exactly 281 points so far this season? It's actually going to be a great game to watch, from Thursday all the way until Monday night.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The 'Morons are 4-0 and have outscored the league in each of the past two weeks, setting the record for most points ever scored by a team in a 3FL week. In fact, just four weeks into the season they have have scored 100+ more points than the second leading scorer. That's ridiculous. And there is no reason for it to stop now.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1) vs. Dumbbums
After taking a loss in their first ever 3FL game, PEP has won the last three straight and sits atop the West Division. It helps when your points against is the lowest total in the league. Perhaps that's just a welcome gift from our other teams. Also, Aaron Rodgers called. He's unhappy with starting 1-3.

Lighting (-2) vs. Spiked Vipers
We all know that anything can happen in the 3FL, but this game is looking like my pick of the month. The Bolts are in line for a high scoring week and SpiVi has three starters on a bye. But topping it all off is the possibility that #1 overall pick Andrew Luck is probably out again for tonight's game. And he's the only QB on their roster.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Tom Brady is back after his bye last week allowed Coach Hoss' first loss of the year. The Brew Crew put up the lowest total last week and this week isn't looking much better. Especially considering that neither of their two tight ends will see the field on Sunday. And unless Marshawn Lynch heals up before the games start this could end up a blowout.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Renegades
FitzCorp is off to its worst start to a season EVER. A loss this week would extend their losing streak to seven games and put them on our list of longest of all time. It seems the Maasai are no help with fantasy football strategy. It's possible for them to get back on track against the Renegades this week, though, as Coach Val might be distracted after adding a new baby to the team. Welcome Bradley! And congrats Coach Val & Coach Greg!!

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S15: Week 4 Preview

The winners kept winning, the losers kept losing and the Baltimorons broke the record for most points scored in a week. Things will get even more interesting this week.

Remember that the byes are starting - it's time to decide whom you can afford to keep on your active roster. And don't forget about the game in Old England at 9:30am EDT on Sunday. Set your players in that matchup before it begins.

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 126 points (Most all-time)

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/D) - 36 points
Arizona Cardinals Defense (YB) - 28 points
Devonta Freeman (RB/Atl/B) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 14/18 - 77.78%
League Voting: 13/18 - 72.22%
Yahoo! Projections: 11/18 - 61.11%

The Comm-nosticator and Coach Sinkerbeam were both 6/6 in week 3 voting

I know the Thursday deadline every week is silly, but go vote!

Week 4 Information
Thursday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday Morning (London): New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ New Orleans Saints
Monday Night: Detroit Lions @ Seattle Seahawks
Bye Week: Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Don't you hate it when you score 100+ points and still lose? By almost 20 points?? Or when you have scored the third most points in the league but are sitting at 1-2 after 3 weeks? Things will change this week after the Stompers get to face the suddenly inept Predacons.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
FitzCorp is still looking for their first win after three weeks of football. That's a little unusual. They'll have a chance to get back on track against the newbies this week, though, thanks to a Gronk bye.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
One of these two will double their win total this week, but it's not going to be easy. The Bolts need a big Sunday afternoon to have a chance, and the Brew Crew will have trouble even fielding a full team with all of those Ps and Qs and Os.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Marauders are 3-0 and the Vipers are 0-3 and in last place in the league. But don't let the records fool you, this is going to be a great one. Brady is on a bye and SpiVi will score more than 14 points.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Aaron Rodgers finally delivered a win to the 'Bums last week. He only leads the league in scoring (with 80 points through 3 weeks), so there isn't a whole lot more he can do. Meanwhile the Renegades just have to hope that Drew Brees in going to play on Sunday night. If he makes it onto the field this one will be almost too close to call.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. the HAW
Two of our unbeaten teams face off in what should be a great fantasy matchup. The HAW have won eight in a row and a victory this week will put them (again) on the list of our longest winning streaks. But they'll have to go through the team that now holds the record for most points ever scored in one week. No Big Ben makes the difference.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 24, 2015

3FL Notes: S15: Week 3 Preview

Our second week had considerably more drama than our first (despite the league scoring the exact same number of points). For starters we had our first tie of the season. And the Phenoms earned their first ever 3FL win by posting the high weekly total and the blowout of the week (which is easier to do when you play against the team that scored 14 points).

Get ready for the last of our first set of intra-divisional games and the final full-roster games before the bye weeks start!

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Phys. Ed. Phenoms - 81 points

Player MVPs:
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit/tH) - 29 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE/M) - 25 points
Carson Palmer (QB/Ari/PEP) - 25 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 8/12 - 66.67%
League Voting: 7/12 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 8/12 - 66.67%

Go vote! Seriously - only one team voted last week.

Week 3 Information

Thursday Night: Washington Redskins @ New York Giants
Sunday Night: Denver Broncos @ Detroit Lions
Monday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Green Bay Packers
Bye Week: None until next week

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Don't look now, but the 'Morons just took over the top spot in the league. And now they have LeVeon Bell back on the field. Coach Drew will have to deal with a bunch of injuries and the matchups will make this closer than you think, but it just depends on who picks the correct starters.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Also don't look now, but the CAPS have won seven in a row (going all the way back to week 12 of last season). I feel like I've said that before. After a dramatic MNF tie last week Coach Val and new QB Marcus Mariota will try to stop that winning streak from getting any longer. It's looking like the Steelers hookup holds the cards.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Would you believe me if I told you that Aaron Rodgers' 3FL team is 0-2 and in 10th place in the league right now? It's true, but maybe this week is where the 'Bums snap out of it and mount a MNF comeback. And if they play a TE. It's good to have one of those on the team.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
It's not like Romo ever saw the Marauders' starting lineup, but maybe it wasn't too bad of a decision to take Brady with the very next pick, right? Either way Coach Hoss is undefeated while FitzCorp's WR/WR strategy has yet to get a win. Perhaps this is the week now that the Bradford experiment seems to be temporarily over.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
These teams don't have a single win between them and SpiVi just made the list for least points scored in a week. Don't expect only 14 points from them again this week (in fact, Luck might score more than that by himself), but the Brew Crew is looking pretty strong. As long as their RBs actually play in their NFL games.

And the game of the week...

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Predacons
What a way to get their first win. PEP outscored everyone to leave no doubt about the victory, and now they look to go 2-0 and jump to the top of the West. All those Preds Ps and Qs are going to make it difficult to stop that from happening, but it might just come down to a dramatic prime time comeback.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S15: Week 2 Preview

Despite a double dose of MNF there was very little drama in week one. But the HAW and Baltimorons picked up this season where they left off last year.

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the HAW - 96 points

Player MVPs:
Tom Brady (QB/NE/M) - 29 points
Rob Gronkowski (TE/NE/PEP) - 22 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/D) - 22 points

Week 2 Information

Thursday Night: Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night: New York Jets @ Indianapolis Colts
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Let's do a little HAW recap. Since winning their fourth SuperBowl title last season, the CAPS were awarded the best draft, outscored the league in week one and also had the biggest blowout. Can anyone stop them? Please?? FitzCorp has a chance but an injured Dez doesn't help.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Week one wasn't kind to either of these two. The good thing is that one of them will most likely pick up a win this week. Edge to Brees. And the team who will keep an inactive player out of the starting lineup.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
PEP started their 3FL career with a huge Thursday night game, but the week ended with a loss. Can they pick up win number one against Andrew Luck and SpiVi? Maybe. But MNF will be stressful.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Predacons
This one is looking like a showcase of RBs (on the field and on the bench). Too bad we can only start two each. The matchup will be pretty close until Aaron Rodgers throws a bunch of Sunday night TDs to people not named Davante.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Sunday night will hold a lot of the keys to victory here. Along with which one of his six RBs Coach Drew puts on the field. Tannehill could be a surprise for the Bolts, but they can't rely on a dramatic comeback on MNF.

And the game of the week...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Brady. Manning (he'll do better this week). Beckham. Peterson (he'll also do better). This one is shaping up to be a great matchup, with the battle stretching from Thursday through Monday night. The slight edge goes to Coach Hoss to start the season 2-0.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S15: Week 1 Preview

Can the HAW win a fifth SuperBowl title? Will two-thirds of the league keep a generic Yahoo! helmet as a logo? Can there be any peace in the Renegades/Phenoms household? Only the 3FL season will have these answers...

It all starts tomorrow night!
Remember to have your starting lineups set 5 minutes before the games begin this week. Any players in the Steelers vs. Patriots game will be locked in whichever lineup position you have them at 8:25pm EDT tomorrow night.

Coach Thadtotti once again crafted our customized schedule. Divisional games will be played in weeks 1-3 and 11-13 and week 11 will be our rivalry week.

Voting is up and running for the season. Make sure you vote on all the 3FL games before the beginning of tomorrow night's NFL game.

Here we go!

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ New England Patriots
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night Early: Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons
Monday Night Late: Minnesota Vikings @ San Francisco 49ers
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

the HAW (-1/2) vs Yuengling Brewers
The Big Ben to Antonio Brown hookup is going to reward the CAPS with a lot of points this season, just maybe not this week. They can still take this one, though, depending on the health of Mike Evans and Eli's play on Sunday night.

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Baltimorons
The 'Morons might have drafted six RBs, but the top two are officially out this week and two more are Q and P respectively. Let's just make sure that Coach Drew swaps out players before Le'Veon Bell is locked in with a zero beside his name.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Will Andrew Luck live up the expectations of being the #1 pick? SpiVi has put a lot of faith in his QB and his TE while the Preds went all in with a bunch of RBs. We'll see which strategy delivers a win to start the season, but this one won't be decided until early on Tuesday morning.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
We haven't had a new team debut in the 3FL in 12 years so this is kind of a big deal. Of course the Marauders aren't concerned with rolling out the red carpet. And Tom Brady is bound to be angry tomorrow night.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
This Stompers team is better than you think - Peyton Manning and AP and the Seahawks highlight Coach Bev's swirly helmet squad. They are favored by the slimmest of margins, but Sam Bradford could surprise everyone (except Coach Tim-A) and give FitzCorp a divisional win to start the season.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Everything is even in this one so it should be a fun first GOTW to watch. It will be exciting from Thursday night all the way through Monday's late game, even though Coach Val won't be awake to find out the result.

Good luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 15!

3FL Notes: 2015 Draft Analysis

A majority of our teams were represented during at least part the online draft on Thursday night. Here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. Spiked Vipers: SpiVi did get a little creative with the first pick (as usual) but kept things relative strategic this year. And they waited until the tenth round to draft a Defense! Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

2. Phys. Ed. Phenoms: Coach Greg's first draft with his own team didn't go exactly as planned. Blaming work and the app on his phone, PEP drafted Gronk with the second overall pick. But that might not be too wrong. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

3. Dumbbums: Once the 'Bums found the draft button things were pretty smooth this year. Some late sleepers will complement a solid offensive team. An early D pick was the only questionable choice. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B-)

4. Stiletto Stompers: AP dropped all the way to the fourth pick and the Stompers swiped him up quickly. The RBs might be sketchy but this team is otherwise quite competitive. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B)

5. Yuengling Brewers: The sleeping strategy worked again, although not as well as in recent years. The Brew Crew is going to have to pay attention to keep up in 2015. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B)

6: Predacons: For a while there it looked like the Preds were drafting last year's team all over again, with J.Charles and M.Forte back in black and red. Yahoo! didn't like this draft much but it looks better in reality, especially if some of the late value breaks out. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: C)

7. Lightning: The Bolts went with an old school RB/RB strategy to start the draft. Then they waited until the ninth round to draft a QB. Overall this idea worked out, as long as nobody gets hurt. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: A-)

8: Baltimorons: Le'Veon Bell has to sit out the first couple of games but the 'Morons solved that problem by drafting six RBs. When he comes back this team can be better than you think. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: C+)

9: the HAW: Coming off of their fourth SuperBowl victory, the CAPS are already in the driver's seat for this year (at least according to the algorithms). They have the Big Ben to AB hookup and were awarded the Toyota best draft. Business as usual for Coach HAW. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: A-)

10. Renegades: Last time Coach Val was in complete control of the Renegades franchise they won it all. Just saying. Her draft went well (hopefully it was worth the lack of sleep) and things will be good as long as the New Orleans offense performs. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

11. Misfits, Inc.: Dead last. That's where Yahoo! projects FitzCorp to end up after starting the draft WR/WR and selecting a few sleepers at the end. I respectfully disagree. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: C)

12. Marauders: Much of the chatter in the draft window this year revolved around Coach Hoss' decision (or his iPad's decision) to draft Romo and Brady back-to-back with picks 60 and 61. Even so, this team is pretty good. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions soon. Stay tuned.

Using the updated double-secret reverse reveal draft pick method and some left over Christmas card envelopes, the draft order for the 2015 season of the 3FL has been chosen. Two-thirds of the teams in the league were present during the selection process.
