SuperBowl XVI Champion!

Congratulations to Misfits, Inc. on their first ever SuperBowl title! Appropriately, the team with the highest point total in a season (and a career) put up the most playoff points and highest score to win a championship game.

Stay tuned later in the week for final stats and the 2016 season wrap-up.

Happy holidays and thanks to everyone for a great year!

3FL Notes: S16: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

We are guaranteed to have a brand new name on the trophy this season. The underdog #8 seed Stompers won again and FitzCorp survived a MNF scare, so we have just one week left to see which team can win their first ever 3FL championship!

Remember that most of the games are on Saturday this week. Merry Christmas Eve of football!

Week 16 Information
Thursday Night: New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles
Saturday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ Houston Texans
Sunday Late: Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday Night: Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs
Monday Night: Detroit Lions @ Dallas Cowboys

Here we go...it's SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#5 the HAW vs. #7 Spiked Vipers
Our 4x champion CAPS wouldn't have beat anyone last week, so they find themselves here despite having higher expectations and Tom Brady at the helm. SpiVi was half of the only consolation bracket tie in our history but they lost the tiebreaker because of a head-to-head season loss. Another loss here would send them into the 2017 season with a L4. Who wants to end up 8th the least?

For 5th Place:
#1 Marauders vs. #3 Phys. Ed. Phenoms
It was a case of "one week too late" for both of these teams. After terrible showings in the quarterfinals, these two would have tied at 87 last week. Now they get to play to win the consolation bracket. There is no prize for ending up in 5th, and it is a little sad to see how far down they'll end up. At least they'll both have a reason to watch MNF.

For 3rd Place:
#4 Baltimorons vs. #6 Dumbbums
The 'Morons couldn't quite make it to their 3rd SuperBowl in a row, running into the red hot Stompers and getting pedestrian numbers out of their star players. And the 'Bums were oh so close to knocking off the Corporation. Jonathan Stewart clawed them to within 2 points on Monday night. But it was not meant to be. So now we get a decent matchup for 3rd place. I'll bet that the 'Morons put up a ton of points (maybe enough to have won the SB without last week's clunker).

3FL SuperBowl XVI
#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
No matter what happens we'll see a new name engraved on the championship trophy this year. This is FitzCorp's fourth time in the big game and it's the third appearance for the Stompers. Coach Bev ended up here after knocking off the #1 seed in the quarterfinals and then outscoring the league last week. The Corporation's arrival was more obvious - they put up more points this season than any team in history (and it should be noted that they have the most career points scored as well). They survived a down week and MNF nail-biter but they are in position as a heavy favorite in our 16th championship game.

One of them will finally bring home the trophy. Can FitzCorp's RBs run them to the title? Will Drew Brees direct another amazing upset? Will we even need to watch MNF to find out the winner? Only the games on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday will have the answers. All we know is that someone will open an amazing present this weekend.

Merry Christmas and good luck this week!

Thanks to all for another fun season!!

3FL Notes: S16: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

The curse strikes again! The Marauders won ten games this season but are relegated to the consolation bracket after a four point loss to the #8 seeded Stompers in the quarterfinals. What's going to happen this week?

All individual team pages (see links on the sidebar) and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2016 regular season. This year's additions to the records page are in bold. Through 1,266 regular season games we have scored a combined 157,671 points.

Don't forget about the Saturday night game this week (in addition to Thursday night). Make sure your lineup is set.

Monday Night: Carolina Panthers @ Washington Redskins

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl XVI, losers play for 3rd Place)

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #6 Dumbbums
With the Marauders eliminated it's looking like FitzCorp is our team of destiny this season. The curse did its part and things are aligning for our top scoring team of all time to make a run at the trophy. Of course they'll have to get past the 'Bums first (and their three middling QBs). It looks to be close but all signs point to the Corporation punching a ticket to their fourth SuperBowl.

#4 Baltimorons vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
How about those Stompers? They scored the third lowest total this year and snuck into the last playoff spot after losing three of their last four games and ending with a sub-500 record. And then they knock off the #1 seed. Are they just getting warmed up in the postseason? The 'Morons have played in our last two SuperBowls and they could make it three with a win here as the favorite. That's pretty impressive.

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#1 Marauders vs. #5 the HAW
Ouch. Coach Hoss and his ten win team felt the full power of the curse last week as injuries and coaching decisions brought them just short of a spot in the semis. The CAPS did ok last week - they actually would have beaten five of the other playoff teams. But these two will make for an entertaining consolation game. So there's that?

#3 Phys. Ed. Phenoms vs. #7 Spiked Vipers
After last year's disappointment it looked like PEP was on track for a deep run in the playoffs. They avoided the curse, scored a bunch of points, ended up in the top three, etc. But it was not to be, as they scored the lowest total in their entire 3FL history last week. That's usually not good for a quarterfinal win. SpiVi didn't do all that much better, but this week they'll each have a chance to earn a spot in the 5th place game. Meh.

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl awaits!

Thursday, December 08, 2016

3FL Notes: S16: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

What a finale! Half of our games weren't decided until Monday night and five of our teams ended the year at 7-6. The top eight are the same as they were this time last week, but it took some drama to stay there.

Thanks to the new 1pt/10yds rule, ten teams scored more points this season than any other team in our history. And we shattered the yearly league total by nearly 3,000 points.

Remember that ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 1pm THIS SUNDAY, December 11th. Under our playoff rules you will be allowed to make 1 add/drop per week once the postseason starts, but only teams still in the winners bracket will be eligible to make a move (with waivers set in reverse order of seeding).

Three wins in a row wins it all!!

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the HAW - 109 points

Player MVPs:
Andrew Luck (QB/Ind/P) - 31 points
Joe Flacco (QB/Bal/D) - 29 points
Jordan Howard (RB/Chi/tH) - 29 points
David Johnson (RB/Ari/PEP) - 29 points

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Oakland Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ New England Patriots

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Marauders vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
The Marauders were our clear top team for most of the season. They finished with double digit wins (three more than any other team) and were second in scoring. Now they face the eighth seeded Stompers, a team that lost their way into the playoffs and have scored 200 less points this season. But no matter. The curse has a way of evening things out. We'll all be watching on Monday night to see if the Ravens' D can score positive points and eek out a victory.

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #7 Spiked Vipers
FitzCorp limps into the playoffs after having lost their last three in a row and seeing their average point total drop below 100/week. The first of those losses was to the Vipers. Can it happen again? Probably not. The Corporation averaged 18+ more points per game than SpiVi this year and this margin of victory will probably be even more than that. The RBs will tell the tale.

#3 Phys. Ed. Phenoms vs. #6 Dumbbums
These two won their respective divisions this year and ended up with the same record. Of course more than half of our playoff teams are also 7-6. But anyway, this one favors PEP, who seemed to have learned a lesson about the curse last season. The biggest drama will be which middle-of-the-road QB the 'Bums will start. Things won't be final until MNF, but it will probably be pretty much decided before then.

#4 Baltimorons vs. #5 the HAW
These two have combined to win seven total SuperBowls (including the last two), so it's safe to say that the rest of the league is OK with having one of them knocked out before the semifinal round. Their records match and their point totals are just about even, so the outcome will be decided by the matchups and coaching decisions. Brady and Rodgers are no brainers, but what about the CAPS' WRs? And the 'Morons' RBs? And it will be another game that comes down to MNF.

Good luck in the playoffs! The trophy awaits!

3FL Notes: S16: Week 13 Preview

No other teams claimed a playoff spot after last week's games, so it all comes down to our regular season finales to decide our final five postseason participants. Plus three of our four divisions are still up for grabs. It doesn't get much more exciting than that!

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Phys. Ed. Phenoms - 102 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO/SS) - 34 points
Mark Ingram (RB/NO/L) - 28 points
Antonio Brown (WR/Pit/B) - 27 points

Week 13 Information

Thursday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Minnesota Vikings
Sunday Night: Carolina Panthers @ Seattle Seahawks
Monday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ New York Jets
Bye Week: Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Renegades
After winning the last four weeks in a row, the Renegades must win here and hope for some outside help to play in a game next week. But the 'Morons have different ideas. Their Prime Time performers will probably put an end to Coach Val's late-season surge.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The Preds are mathematically eliminated from the postseason and will miss the playoffs for only the second time in our history, despite already scoring 1000+ points. Now they have to beat the West leading 'Bums just to not end the season on a five game losing streak.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. the HAW
FitzCorp is almost guaranteed to be the top scoring team in 3FL history, but they can't end up as the top seed. It's almost a perfect scenario as the Corporation attempts to win their first league title. The HAW hasn't officially qualified for the postseason yet, but they have already won the SuperBowl four times, so...

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
The South comes down to this game as the winner takes the division. A loss for SpiVi could be devastating depending on the other matchups because of their point total. Also they should probably start a RB.

Marauders (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Nothing to see here. Our #1 plays #12 in an uneven matchup to finish the year. Coach Hoss has the top seed no matter what happens in this one, but is it better to face the curse with double digit wins on the season? It probably doesn't matter, but we'll probably get to find out.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Lighting
Both teams need a win. If the Bolts lose they are out for sure and even with a win they need some help (and to score a bunch of points). A Stompers win would guarantee a playoff spot and might even give them the West title.

Good luck this week.

Wednesday, November 23, 2016

3FL Notes: S16: Week 12 Preview

Two more teams punched their ticket to the postseason during our lowest scoring week of the year, but that still leaves five spots open with only two weeks to go. And all of our teams are still mathematically eligible for the postseason (unlike the Cleveland Browns).

It's going to be an exciting week full of drama and turkey!

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the HAW - 104 points

Player MVPs:
Rob Kelley (RB/Was/tH) - 31 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE/tH) - 30 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GE/B) - 28 points

Predictions Tally

League Voting: 32/66 - 48.48%
Yahoo! Projections: 36/66 - 54.55%

Week 12 Information

Thursday Early: Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving Late: Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys
Thanksgiving Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Indianapolis Colts
Sunday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Philadelphia Eagles

Skipping a set of byes this week. Thank goodness.

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The Comm-nosticator predicted the late season rise of the Renegades and I'm not backing off yet. They've won three in a row and have given themselves a chance at a postseason berth after an awful start to the year. The CAPS and Tom Brady have different plans, but this one is going to be super close.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The top in the West meets the top in the South in this one. The 'Bums have already qualified for the playoffs and have won three of their last four, but PEP looks to have the upper hand this week thanks to the matchups. We'll know a lot more after Thanksgiving afternoon. You know, before the second round of turkey.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The Preds keep finding a way to lose this season. They are guaranteed to finish no better than .500 even if they win out, and they are definitely not guaranteed a playoff spot. The Stompers have lost two in a row and could really use a division win here. Starting a full lineup would help.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
This battle is pretty much a must win for the Brew Crew. It's a divisional matchup and they're currently in last place with only two weeks to go. They've also scored the fewest points in the league so far. So why would things turn around this week?

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Lightning
FitzCorp may have scored their lowest total this year, but don't feel bad for them just yet. They've already qualified for the playoffs and are still averaging triple digit points per week. The Bolts need a win here to avoid the division sweep but the matchups aren't looking good for that.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
A great week of games is highlighted by what should be an amazing matchup. Starters are spread throughout the holiday week with it all coming down to Aaron Rodgers on MNF. Can he finish the comeback and send the Marauders to their second loss in a row?

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week!

Thursday, November 17, 2016

3FL Notes: S16: Week 11 Preview

Our first playoff spot was finally claimed last week as the Marauders glided to an easy victory. After another triple digit performance, Misfits, Inc. has already scored more points this season than any team has in our 15+ year history. And we still have three weeks to go.

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 127 points (3rd all-time)

Player MVPs:
Ezekiel Elliott (RB/Dal/MI) - 38 points
DeMarco Murray (RB/Ten/MI) - 27 points
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit/L) - 26 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 35/60 - 58.33%
League Voting: 28/60 - 46.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 32/60 - 53.33%

Go vote!!

Week 11 Information

Thursday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Carolina Panthers
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Washington Redskins
Monday Night: Houston Texans @ Oakland Raiders
Bye Week: Atlanta, Denver, NY Jets, San Diego

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 11:

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Every team in the South is 4-6 (and 1-1 against each other), so the winner here will take over the lead in the division through Thanksgiving day. A lot of it will come down to managerial decisions with projections being too close to call. It's going to be interesting to watch those benches.

Predacons (-1) vs. Baltimorons
The Preds dropped another one last week and have a losing record once again. These two have scored the exact same number of points so far this season (866), but Coach Sinkerbeam has an edge this week thanks to the matchups. Although those projections don't seem to mean much to him lately...

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Don't sleep on the Bolts. After a tough start to the season they have won their last two and are only a game away from being in the thick of the playoff race. The CAPS are headed in the other direction and could really use a win in this divisional matchup. Big Ben vs. Brady will tell the story.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
I know that FitzCorp is averaging more than 105 points per week while SpiVi is hovering under 80, but between byes and PED suspensions this one is looking like the upset special of the month. Or maybe not. Either way it will be close, with the final coming before any prime time games begin.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Renegades
You'd think that the game between the first and last teams in the standings would have an obvious conclusion, but that's not the case here. Coach Val is only 1/2 game behind the current final playoff spot in the standings. Not that an upset is a sure thing but the Marauders have a bench full of byes so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

And the game of the week...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The top spot in the West is at stake as these two evenly matched teams meet again. The Stompers won easily in week one but this will be a much tougher task thanks to the bye weeks. We'll know a lot more after tonight's game, as four combined players will be on the field. Can Drew Brees keep up his league leading point total?

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 10, 2016

3FL Notes: S16: Week 10 Preview

Last week was devoid of any drama at all - the average margin of victory was more than 42 points. But our first place and last place team tied for the top weekly score of 118. That's pretty interesting.

It's already Rivalry Week in the 3FL and not a single playoff spot has been claimed. It should be an exciting last month of the season!

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders/Renegades - 118 points

Player MVPs:
Melvin Gordon (RB/SD/M) - 31 points
Mark Ingram (RB/NO/L) - 28 points
Matt Ryan (QB/Atl/MI) - 28 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 32/54 - 59.26%
League Voting: 25/54 - 46.30%
Yahoo! Projections: 30/54 - 55.56%

You should go vote now.

Week 10 Information

Thursday Night: Cleveland Browns @ Baltimore Ravens
Sunday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ New England Patriots
Monday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Giants
Bye Week: Buffalo, Detroit, Indianapolis, Oakland

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for rivalry week:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
FitzCorp is still hovering over a 100 points per week average with only four weeks to go. Can they continue their high-flying ways against PEP? I don't see why not. And another prediction for this week - David Johnson scores less than his 22 projected points.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Coach Hoss reestablished some first place authority last week, moving to 7-2 and co-outscoring the rest of the league. Meanwhile, the Predacons keep underperforming. Is this the season they miss the playoffs for only the second time in our history?

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
This is going to be a great one to watch, with the most even RB matchup of the year. But Tom Brady on SNF give the CAPS the slightest of advantages.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Our twin billing will live up to the hype this year. It's going to be close from Thursday night through Monday night as long as both starting lineups end up full. The Stompers have the edge but I told you last week about those last-place-but-upset-minded Renegades.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
This is 1pm heavy matchup, with all but two 'Morons done before dinnertime on Sunday. Can Antonio Brown start Coach Drew's comeback? And can his kicker finish it on MNF?

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Bolts need to start soon if they want a shot at the postseason and beating SpiVi would be a good start. A win here would even their records but let Coach Thad leapfrog them in the standings. It's going to be close, so keep an eye on the Steelers on Sunday afternoon and the Patriots on Sunday night.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 03, 2016

3FL Notes: S16: Week 9 Preview

The league had another 1,000 point week and five teams scored 100 or more points. And the playoff race is starting to tighten up in preparation for our final five games in the regular season.

With six NFL teams on a bye again it will be interesting to see which players end up in a starting lineup.

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Phys. Ed. Phenoms - 120 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/B) - 36 points
Derek Carr (QB/Oak/PEP) - 33 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE/tH) - 31 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 28/48 - 58.33%
League Voting: 21/48 - 43.57%
Yahoo! Projections: 26/48 - 54.17%

The Comm-nosticator, Predacons and Yahoo! were 6/6 in week 8 voting

Week 9 Information

Thursday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sunday Night: Denver Broncos @ Oakland Raiders
Monday Night: Buffalo Bills @ Seattle Seahawks
Bye Week: Arizona, Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, New England, Washington

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Bolts have been pretty underwhelming this season and having a ton of bye week players plus injuries this week isn't going to help. But they've managed to hit the waiver wire and put together quite a squad for their game against the Preds. And if Big Ben returns it could be even better.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The big bye week will have a major effect on this game but it's still going to be a great matchup. Tom Brady is on the bye list so this one will be closer than Yahoo! thinks, but the Stompers' RBs won't do enough for the W.

Renegades (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
Just looking at the Renegades lineup makes you wonder how this team only has one win so far. They'll double that unlucky total this week against SpiVi (finding replacement RBs this week was a tough task) and they just might play the spoiler more than once during the stretch run.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Dumbbums
These two may have the same record but this game isn't going to be close. Most of their bench is on a bye, but FitzCorp is still going to put up over 100 points to keep their league leading scoring average above the century mark.

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
An early favorite for blowout of the week, this one shouldn't have too much drama for the 'Morons. If the Brew Crew can field a full lineup things will be closer, but just the QB and WR positions might be all that Coach Drew needs.

And the game of the week...

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The Marauders are still at the top of the standings but they haven't been dominant over the past few weeks. They'll get all they can handle in this one as PEP has some great matchups on the schedule. Coach Hoss' lineup choices and Christine Michael on MNF will be the difference.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S16: Week 8 Preview

We just had our lowest scoring week of the year (by far), but don't be fooled. Ten of twelve teams are still on pace to put up a higher season total than we've ever had before.

This week and next both have six NFL teams on a bye so things should get interesting. Also be aware that there is ANOTHER game in London this week. Again at 9:30am EST on Sunday. Someone in the NFL offices must like tea and scones.

Week 7 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 108 points

Player MVPs:
Melvin Gordon (RB/SD/M) - 29 points
Jeremy Hill (RB/Cin/R) - 24 points
LeGarrette Blount (RB/NE/SV) 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 22/42 - 52.38%
League Voting: 15/42 - 35.71%
Yahoo! Projections: 20/42 - 47.62%

Week 8 Information

Thursday Night: Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans
Sunday Morning: Washington Redskins @ Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears
Bye Week: Baltimore, LA, Miami, NY Giants, Pittsburgh, San Francisco

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 8:

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Coach Hoss survived a scare last week but things aren't going to get any easier against Tom Brady and the CAPS. OBJ on a bye isn't helpful either. It's possible that we'll have to wait until MNF to finish the story, though.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
These two are headed in opposite directions. The Stompers have won their last two while PEP is on a three game losing streak. But the matchups here lean heavily toward Coach Greg's RBs. And a healthy Dez Bryant?

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Last week the Renegades got their first win in our last eight regular season games. There was no doubt about it either, as they were our biggest blowout of the week too. However, FitzCorp is coming to town and they have scored 215 more points than the 'Gades this year. Looks like a new streak is about to start.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Preds just picked up their first win since the second win of the season and had two of the leagues top three scorers. Unfortunately they were both on the bench. Things might be easier this week since the Brewers' bench is completely full of players on a bye.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Having five Qs and an O probably doesn't mean you'll have a great week (even if you have Aaron Rodgers fully healthy). But it's even worse when one of your RBs RETIRES in the middle of the season. Sigh. Someone's luck has to change this week, right?

And the game of the week...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Don't look now, but SpiVi has outscored the league for two weeks in a row. Can they make it three? The 'Bums seem to have the better matchups this week, but we'll know a lot more about how things are going to go after tonight's QB battle.

Happy Halloween and good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S16: Week 7 Preview

Well that was an exciting week of games! Prime time comebacks upon comebacks were fun, and the Marauders suffered their first loss of the season. Also, the Renegades finally didn't lose (although they remain winless after our season's first tie).

Don't forget there is another early Sunday morning London game this week for some reason.

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 110 points

Player MVPs:
Odell Beckham, Jr. (WR/NYG/M) - 32 points
LeSean McCoy (RB/Buf/D) - 32 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO/SS) - 31 points
David Johnson (RB/Ari/PEP) - 31 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 21/36 - 58.33%
League Voting: 13/36 - 36.11%
Yahoo! Projections: 17/36 - 47.22%

Week 7 Information

Thursday Night: Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
Sunday Morning: New York Giants @ Los Angeles Rams
Sunday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona Cardinals
Monday Night: Houston Texans @ Denver Broncos
Bye Week: Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds are now third in scoring but tenth in our league standings. Over the last three weeks they are 0-2-1 with those games being decided by a total of six points. But FitzCorp doesn't care about all that. They are flying high and should take this one even if they score a bit below their 103 points per week average.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. the HAW
These teams have even records and this should be a close game. The big question is whether Tom Brady will set a new 3FL record for individual points when he takes on the Steelers. Still, I think we'll see a Sunday night comeback by PEP's RBs. It has happened before.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Coach Val almost had her first victory of the season last week, but Andrew Luck put up 20 points on Sunday night and made it a tie instead. While it's not technically a loss it probably doesn't feel any better. They'll have another chance for win #1 this week against the 'Bums though, especially if Shady McCoy is ruled out.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Wow, we have a lot of great games on the schedule this week. Another matchup of the 3-3s, this one starts tonight and goes all the way through until MNF. Did anyone else notice that the Baltimorons are now starting Baltimore's Defense? Crazy, right?

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Coach Hoss is no longer undefeated and he'll now face a tough test to not pick up a second loss. I know the Bolts just lost Big Ben for a month, but the matchups and OBJ's injury will make this one closer than you think. It's October's upset special.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Could this turn out to be our second tie of the year? It's going to be a good one, with games spread out from Sunday morning until Monday night. We'll have to watch to the end to find out who wins. Or who at least pays attention to their lineup.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S16: Week 6 Preview

What a week! The Marauders won again, the Renegades lost again, and we had two one-point games (and one two-point game). What will this week bring?

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 121 points

Player MVPs:
David Johnson (RB/Ari/PEP) - 29 points
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit/L) - 29 points
Ezekiel Elliot (RB/Dal/MI) - 28 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 20/30 - 66.67%
League Voting: 11/30 - 36.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 15/30 - 50%

The Comm-nosticator was 6/6 in week 5 voting

Week 6 Information

Thursday Night: Denver Broncos @ San Diego Chargers
Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans
Monday Night: New York Jets @ Arizona Cardinals
Bye Week: Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

Predacons (-1) vs. Renegades
The Preds have lost their last two by a combined six points but they should get back on track this week against the winless Renegades. A loss here by Coach Val would put her on the list of longest losing streaks of all time. That's no fun.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
These two are heading in opposite directions, as the 'Morons have won their last three and the Stompers have lost their last three. That trend is likely to continue by the smallest of margins during a Sunday night comeback.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
FitzCorp has scored 519 points already and they don't look to be slowing down anytime soon. Can the Brewers keep up? Probably not, but you never know what could happen on MNF.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The Bolts just missed a win last week and could come up short again in this one. Monday night pits the final WRs against each other, but the more important thing will be Coach Thad's RB choices.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
I know they haven't lost yet, but the Marauders will face their toughest test yet against the 'Bums this week. Coach Coaldog has won two in a row and jumped to the top of the West (despite losing both divisional games). He'll be hoping for a comeback in prime time.

And the game of the week...

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Although this one will be close, it seems like Yahoo! is undervaluing Tom Brady again. And is Cam Newton fully healthy and ready to come back from his concussion? That answer is the key to the game.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 06, 2016

3FL Notes: S16: Week 5 Preview

Two-thirds of the league sits at 2-2 after our first four weeks. And we're down to one undefeated and one winless team. Will their fortunes change this week?

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 105 points

Player MVPs:
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit/L) - 38 points
Julio Jones (WR/Atl/R) - 36 points
Derek Carr (QB/Oak/PEP) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 14/24 - 58.33%
League Voting: 9/24 - 37.50%
Yahoo! Projections: 11/24 - 45.83%

Go vote!

Week 5 Information

Thursday Night: Arizona Cardinals @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Carolina Panthers
Bye Week: Chiefs, Jaguars, Saints, Seahawks

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Coach Hoss has yet to lose this year, but SpiVi is projected to win this one by 10 points despite being 10th in the standings. I don't doubt that the upset could happen. It's just that Cam Newton's concussion status probably won't be known before MNF, and if he's out there may be no replacement possibilities.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Renegades
The Brew Crew put up only 54 points last week after hitting the century mark the week before. Which team will show up here? Although it may not take much to beat the tough luck Renegades, as they have by far the lowest point total in the league.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The long awaited return of Tom Brady happens this week for the CAPS. He'll be angry and he gets to play the Browns, so it's not out of the question that Mr. Uggs will outscore the entire Preds team by himself.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
FitzCorp has lost two straight after their hot start, but they are still #1 in the league in scoring (averaging almost 100 points per week). They should get back on track this week as Matt Ryan finally gets to play because of Carson Palmer's injury.

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Lightning
The Bolts finally won one last week and muscled their way up to 11th place. But now they face the 'Bums (including bye week fill-in Carson Wentz), who are projected to score the highest total this week. Even if Gronk does get back to form with the return of Brady this could still be painful.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Phys Ed Phenoms
This is going to be a great game as both teams are evenly matched. The only question mark is whether PEP will be able to field a full complement of WRs, as bye weeks and injuries have piled up. Aaron Rodgers will try to take the win for the 'Morons on Sunday night. Who else would you rather have in that spot?

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 29, 2016

3FL Notes: S16: Week 4 Preview

After only three weeks the Marauders are our lone undefeated team. And we still have two teams without any victories this season. Things will get even more interesting this week.

Remember that the byes are starting. And don't forget about the game in Old England at 9:30am EDT on Sunday. Set your players in that matchup before it begins.

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 103 points

Player MVPs:
Kansas City Chiefs Defense (PEP) - 34 points
Marvin Jones, Jr. (WR/Det/P) - 32 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/B) - 30 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 10/18 - 55.56%
League Voting: 8/18 - 44.44%
Yahoo! Projections: 8/18 - 44.44%

I know the Thursday deadline every week is silly, but go vote!

Week 4 Information
Thursday Night: Miami Dolphins @ Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday Morning (London): Indianapolis Colts @ Jax Jaguars
Sunday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: New York Giants @ Minnesota Vikings
Bye Week: Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Renegades
This would be an exciting matchup to watch if it wasn't such a depressing situation. One of these two will remain winless through our first four weeks. That's hard to recover from. On the bright side, one of them is assured their first win, so there's that. Or they could tie I guess. Ugh.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
This should be a good battle and a high scoring affair provided these two can navigate around all the Qs and Os this week. Le'Veon Bell is back on the field for the Steelers and the Preds, giving them the slightest of advantages.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The Brew Crew passed the century mark in scoring last week and they look to build on that performance, while the 'Bums saw their MNF comeback stalled with only two points to go. This one will also come down to Monday night, when Eli Manning leads the Brewers to a W.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The Stompers took their first loss last week, but they remain third in the league in the standings (and in scoring). SpiVi looks to try to recapture the magic from two weeks ago and their matchups are favorable. But that bench is an absolute mess.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. the HAW
If you came here to see an epic QB matchup of Rodgers vs. Brady you will be sadly disappointed. One is on a bye and the other one is still suspended. Dak Prescott and Sam Bradford for the win!

And the game of the week...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Our top two teams collide in this battle for early season league supremacy. This should be a great one to watch, as each of these teams has scored 300 points or more in our first three weeks. Can the Corporation hand Coach Hoss his first loss? Or will OBJ keep the Marauders undefeated with his MNF performance?

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 22, 2016

3FL Notes: S16: Week 3 Preview

Another exciting week of games saw a second straight FitzCorp MNF comeback, jumping them to the top of the league (with a 118.5 points per week average). Can they continue that streak?

Get ready for the last of our first set of intra-divisional games and the final full-roster games before the bye weeks start!

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Stiletto Stompers - 119 points

Player MVPs:
Cam Newton (QB/Car/SV) - 30 points
Derek Carr (QB/Oak/PEP) - 24 points
Carson Palmer (QB/Ari/MI) - 24 points

The 3FL Records page is now current and will be updated as new records are broken. Our First Era Records page is also live (if you want to revisit the good old days).

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 6/12 - 50%
League Voting: 6/12 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 6/12 - 50%

Go vote! Seriously - only one team voted last week. I'll probably turn off the voting option if nobody votes this week.

Week 3 Information

Thursday Night: Houston Texans @ New England Patriots
Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints
Bye Week: None until next week

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The Bolts have not gotten off to a great start and things are cloudy again this week with all of those Ds and Qs. This one will gain momentum late, with most of the players not taking the field until after the 1pm games are over.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. the HAW
After just two weeks of games FitzCorp has scored 100 more points than the HAW. They shouldn't look past this important division matchup, though, as the winner will be atop of the North (for the time being anyway). Can Alshon Jeffery make it three MNF comebacks in a row for the Corporation?

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Two of our three undefeated teams meet here to determine who will remain without a loss to start the season. The Stompers outscored everyone last week and posted the biggest blowout in the process, but this week will be much more difficult because of their matchups.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Thursday night will be big for SpiVi and could foretell the result of this one. After that their players are finished after the 1pm Sunday games while PEP still has at least four going in the late games. I smell a comeback.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Predacons
After a record breaking week one, the Preds scored less than half as many points last week. Which team will show up against the 'Bums? All eyes will be on Coby Fleener (really) on MNF to see which team can try to keep up with the Stompers in the West.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Renegades
When Coach Drew ended up with Antonio Brown and Aaron Rodgers after the draft did anyone imagine that they would be 0-2 to begin the season? The Renegades look like they will be starting their third different QB in three weeks and have been bitten by the injury bug all over the lineup. I know it's only 0-3, but the loser here will have an uphill battle to qualify for the playoffs.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 15, 2016

3FL Notes: S16: Week 2 Preview

Our first week with the new "10 yards per point" rule obliterated a bunch of our old records, so in the next few days we'll archive the old superlatives (since we're going to forget all about them soon). It will be a fond memory of our first fifteen years - the records of the first 3FL first era.

Week 2 is bound to break some more of those.

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 138 points

Player MVPs:
Andrew Luck (QB/Ind/P) - 35 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO/SS) - 30 points
DeAngelo Williams (RB/Pit/B) - 28 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 2/6 - 33.33%
League Voting: 1/6 - 16.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 2/6 - 33.33%

Go vote!

Week 2 Information

Thursday Night: New York Jets @ Buffalo Bills
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Minnesota Vikings
Monday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Chicago Bears
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Brew Crew looks to shore up the early lead in the South Division with a victory here but that's easier said than done. Cam Newton and SpiVi look to rebound from a tough week 1 and the matchups are in their favor.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Lightning
FitzCorp secured a comeback victory in the wee hours of MNF last week, and now they get to play the team that scored half as many points last week. A healthy Gronk would help, but it's looking like Monday night will secure another win for the Corporation.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The CAPS earned a victory last week and are well on their way to powering through the Tom Brady four game suspension. Their overstock of good RBs is bound to result in a wrong decision, but it still could be enough to edge by the medium strength matchups of the 'Bums.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The Maruaders are at the top of the East for the time being, but that's only because the 'Morons scored 123 points and lost last week. Everything here will come down to Sunday night. Coach Drew will just have to hope that the Packers spread the wealth around.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Renegades
I'm not sure I'd want to be in the Renegades/Phenoms house this weekend. Both are already 0-1 in their respective divisions and one of them will be 0-2 overall to start the season after this week. At least the 4pm Sunday games will make things interesting for both sides.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds set the record for most points ever scored by one team in a week - by 12 points. And they didn't even vote for the new rules. That won't happen again, especially since the Stompers are fielding the best team they've had in years.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S16: Week 1 Preview

Can the Baltimorons win a fourth SuperBowl title? Will most of the league keep a generic Yahoo! helmet as a logo? Does a single rule change spell the end of the league records as we know them? Only the 3FL season will have these answers...

It all starts tomorrow night!
Remember to have your starting lineups set 5 minutes before the games begin this week. Any players in the Panthers vs. Broncos game will be locked in whichever lineup position you have them at 8:25pm EDT tomorrow night.

Voting is up and running for the season. Make sure you vote on all the 3FL games before the beginning of tomorrow's NFL game.

Here we go!

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: Carolina Panthers @ Denver Broncos
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Arizona Cardinals
Monday Night Early: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Washington Redskins
Monday Night Late: Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Defense vs. Defense on Thursday night will be exciting, but this one will come down to the strength of the 'Bums RBs. Also, only one player in this whole matchup has a game after 1pm on Sunday. Weird.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. the HAW
This one will be super close until the Steelers wrap up the early game on Monday night. LA's Defense will just be some late night icing on the cake.

Baltimorons (-2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Only four players in the entire league are projected to put up more points than the 'Moron's Antonio Brown this week. One of those players is Aaron Rodgers. He is also a Baltimoron. Uh oh.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
SpiVi will be off to a quick start this week, with a third of their players in the Thursday night kickoff game. Things here are set to wrap up on Sunday night, leaving both coaches to just sit back and enjoy the double matchup on MNF.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Claiming the Toyota Best Draft is one thing. Now PEP will try to win in week one against an auto-drafted team. Interesting. Coach Greg is projected to score more than 90 points but the Brew Crew will make it close.

And the game of the week...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Renegades
What a matchup this will be for our first GotW. These teams are even across the board, but will Coach Hoss choose the right QB? And will Jordy Nelson play for the whole game?

Good luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 16!

3FL Notes: 2016 Draft Analysis

Most of our teams were represented during the online draft on Tuesday night. Here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. Baltimorons: The 'Morons are ready to defend the title, as Coach Drew grabbed AB with the first choice and managed to get Aaron Rodgers at QB. He also has five RBs to pick from. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: B)

2. Marauders: Coach Hoss was solid in the draft and should be in good shape this year as long as the Chargers' offense performs at a decent level. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

3. Renegades: Being able to stay awake for the whole draft was the main goal, but the Renegades managed to draft a decent team too. They have to hope that no one gets hurt though. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: C)

4. Misfits, Inc.: This is a very different looking FitzCorp team than usual. They drafted a suspended K, are waiting on an injured TE, and only have one Philadelphia Eagle. But maybe that's a good shakeup? Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: C+)

5. Phys. Ed. Phenoms: PEP managed to earn the Toyota Best Draft to start their sophomore season, and don't get me wrong, this team is going to be good. But the BEST? We'll have to see about that. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: A-)

6: Yuengling Brewers: Auto Draft got a workout for the Brew Crew once again and it did a pretty good job. They have maybe the best WR corps in the league and only one kicker this time! Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

7: Spiked Vipers: Phone drafting while engaging in a sports activity might not be for everyone, but it worked out for SpiVi this year. At least until the 9th round or so. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: C+)

8: Stiletto Stompers: Coach Bev is solid at the top of the skilled positions but she may have reached a little at DEF and K. And I'll admit that I don't know any of the players on her bench. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B-)

9: Dumbbums: The 'Bums weren't available to draft and they elected not to have any daughters-in-law draft for them. Because of that they ended up with two TEs, two Ds, and a lot of red Qs. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B)

10: Lightning: Coach Thad also ended up with two TEs (even though he was online the whole time). But one of them is Gronk. The Bolts look solid except for maybe an RB2. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B-)

11: the HAW: It seemed like a wacky draft for the CAPS this time, but the sum came together at the end to be better than its parts. And look out after week 5 when Brady is back. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

12: Predacons: The Preds chose a QB before the 10th round for the first time in a long time. And the skilled positions are pretty solid, especially after Le'Veon Bell returns. This team might just be good enough to be our runner-up once again. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: B)

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions soon. Stay tuned.

All In for 2016 & Ballot Results

The votes have been tallied and everything is staying the same - except for rushing/receiving yards per point. This season we will change the rules to give 1 point for every 10 yards rushing or receiving. It will be a trial year to figure out if we like this method or if we want to go back to the old way. Or if we want to change everything and go all in with Yahoo's default scoring.

Make sure you keep this new scoring rule in mind for the draft which will take place tomorrow, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH @ 9PM.

The divisions and draft order are set and our custom schedule matrix is updated (thanks to SpreadsheetGeek). Week 10 will be Rivalry Week.

Good luck this season!

The Draft is MOVING

Enough of the ballots are in to show that a majority of the league would like to move the draft to Tuesday, September 6th @ 9pm. We can talk about whether a post Labor Day draft will be the norm going forward, but I wanted to let everyone know about the new date for this year.

You'll have a little more time to do research and mock drafts, but make sure you cancel that party platter for Thursday.

It's looking like some rules changes may be coming as well. Look for an update as soon as the votes are in.

2016 Draft Order and Divisons

Using the updated double-secret reverse reveal draft pick method and some left over Christmas card envelopes, the draft order for the 2016 season of the 3FL has been chosen. Eleven of the twelve teams in the league were present during the selection process.

2016 3FL Draft Order

1. Baltimorons
2. Marauders
3. Renegades
4. Misfits, Inc.
5. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
6. Yuengling Brewers
7. Spiked Vipers
8. Stiletto Stompers
9. Dumbbums
10. Lightning
11. the HAW
12. Predacons

We also decided to continue to assign divisions based on the historical performance of their 2016 draft pick number's winning percentage. In our first 15 years those stats are as follows:

Draft Pick - Win Percentage
6  -  .540
12  -  .530
10  -  .525
2  -  .523
7  -  .505
9  -  .505
11  -  .497
3  -  .485
5  -  .482
8  -  .477
4  -  .467
1  -  .462

Giving us the following four divisions:

NORTH
Lightning, the HAW, Misfits, Inc.

EAST
Marauders, Renegades, Baltimorons

WEST
Predacons, Dumbbums, Stiletto Stompers

SOUTH
Yuengling Brewers, Spiked Vipers, Phys. Ed. Phenoms

Possible rule changes are being taken into consideration and will be put to a vote during training camp. We will tentatively hold the live online draft at 9:00pm on Thursday, September 1, 2016.

Have a great off-season!
