SuperBowl XVII Champion!

Coach Drew welcomed a new baby boy into his family on Friday and then won his fourth 3FL championship on Christmas Monday. That's quite a holiday weekend! The Baltimorons left no doubt about it, scoring more points in the SuperBowl than any other team in our history. Congratulations Drew (and Kattie)!!

Stay tuned later in the week for final stats and the 2017 season wrap-up.

Happy holidays and thanks to everyone for a great year!

3FL Notes: S17: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

A bunch of playoff records were broken during our incredible semifinal round. And our lowest two seeds will play for the championship in a topsy turvy postseason. Will the 'Morons make it 4x? Or will PEP claim their first title in just their third season in the league??

Remember that there are two Saturday and two Monday games this week. Merry Christmas of football!

Week 15 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 128 points (most, playoffs all-time)

Player MVPs:
Todd Gurley II (RB/LAR/P) - 41 points (most, playoffs all-time)
Cam Newton (QB/Car/PEP) - 33 points
Kareem Hunt (RB/KC/SS) - 32 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

Yahoo! Projections: 4/8 - 50%

Yahoo! was 4/4 in week 15 after being 0/0 in week 14

Week 16 Information
Saturday Late: Indianapolis Colts @ Baltimore Ravens
Saturday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Late: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Houston Texans
Monday Night: Oakland Raiders @ Philadelphia Eagles

Here we go...it's SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#1 Lightning vs. #2 Stiletto Stompers
We all know about the curse of the #1 seed, but it seemed to be extra cruel this year. The Bolts fell to the eighth seed in the first round of the playoffs and then they scored their lowest total since 2015 (back when we used the old rules) in last's week's game. Ouch. Now they have three players who are officially OUT against the potent but unlucky Stompers this week. It's looking like going from first to worst is the most likely scenario.

For 5th Place:
#5 the HAW vs. #6 Predacons
It's appropriate that the fifth and sixth seeded teams will play for fifth place in this one. Both had good showings one week too late in the playoffs, with the Preds actually scoring the second highest point total ever in a playoff game during the semifinals. They're projected to score almost 100 in this consolation bracket finale and should win big against the CAPS' bench worth of deactivated players. But heavy favorite hasn't been a great spot for Coach Sinkerbeam to be in this season.

For 3rd Place:
#3 Misfits, Inc. vs. #4 Dumbbums
We've not had a repeat champion since our first two seasons and that trend continues after a semifinal round without any drama. There will be excitement in this one, though, as these two teams match up evenly in the battle for third place. One bright spot for the Corporation last week was the continuation of big points from their Eagles' QB, and that could be the difference here. We'll all have to wait until MNF to see which team ends up with the digital bronze metal (trophy).

3FL SuperBowl XVII
#7 Baltimorons vs. #8 Phys. Ed. Phenoms
Did anyone think the bottom two seeds would end up facing off for our coveted trophy? It's only PEP's third year in the 3FL but they've qualified for the playoffs in each of those seasons and have now advanced to their first championship game (with a little thanks to the curse). Their average margin of victory in this postseason is almost 35 points. Meanwhile the 'Morons put up the most playoff points in the history of our league to reach their third SuperBowl in the last four years (and fifth appearance overall). Coach Drew has won three championships already.

Can the 'Morons tie the HAW and earn their fourth SuperBowl victory? Or will the Phenoms ride their stars to the etching of a new name on the trophy? There are games all weekend but it's all going to come down to Christmas day. Someone is about to open an amazing present.

Merry Christmas and good luck this week!

Thanks to all for another fun season!!

3FL Notes: S17: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

The curse! Again!! The Bolts fell to the #8 seed Phenoms and the top team now has only a single title in 17 seasons. Yikes. What's going to happen this week?

All individual team pages (see links on the sidebar) and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2017 regular season. This year's additions to the records page are in bold. Through 1,344 regular season games we have scored a combined 169,933 points.

Don't forget about the two Saturday games this week (in addition to Thursday night). Make sure your lineup is set.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Phys. Ed. Phenoms - 102 points

Player MVPs:
Le'Veon Bell (RB/Pit/D) - 29 points
Carson Wentz (QB/Phi/MI) - 28 points
Jordan Howard (RB/Chi/MI) - 26 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

Yahoo! Projections: 0/4 - 0%

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: Denver Broncos @ Indianapolis Colts
Saturday Late: Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
Saturday Night: LA Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Oakland Raiders
Monday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl XVII, losers play for 3rd Place)

#3 Misfits, Inc. vs. #7 Baltimorons
The top two seeds are now out of the championship bracket, so you'd think that FitzCorp would be the obvious favorite to repeat and win the title. But Carson Wentz's torn ACL changed those odds right away. The 'Morons are favored by 20 points in this one but it should be closer than that. Although the return of JuJu and Gronk might seal the SuperBowl invite for Coach Drew before Devonta Freeman even takes the field on MNF.

#4 Dumbbums vs. #8 Phys. Ed. Phenoms
That was quite a strategy by PEP. Losing the last three games in the regular season so they could outscore everyone in the quarterfinals and use the curse to their advantage? Brilliant. And now they're projected to advance to their first ever SuperBowl. They just have to get past Le'Veon Bell and the 'Bums. Thursday night is important but the starting QB decision for each team could tip the advantage.

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#1 Lightning vs. #5 the HAW
All the warnings were there, but someone has to be the top seed. Now Brady and Brown are relegated to the consolation games where they'll meet the just-reactivated Aaron Rodgers. He comes back from injury just one week too late for the CAPS (who watched their QB score -4 points in their first round game). It will be an exciting one. So there's that.

#2 Stiletto Stompers vs. #6 Predacons
Zero for 34. Sigh. It's another season without a title for both of these teams, with neither ever winning the 3FL championship in our 17 years. It really looked like it was the Stompers' year but things didn't go their way last week. The Preds would've beaten five other teams in the quarterfinals but not the one they played against. I know it's only for a shot at 5th place but this looks like the best matchup of the week.

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl awaits!

Thursday, December 07, 2017

3FL Notes: S17: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

The last week of the regular season turned out to be our highest scoring week of the year. And the last two playoff spots were taken by teams that won their matchups in order to get in. It's already shaping up to be an exciting run to SuperBowl XVII!

Remember that ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 1pm THIS SUNDAY, December 10th. Under our playoff rules you will be allowed to make 1 add/drop per week once the postseason starts, but only teams still in the winners bracket will be eligible to make a move (with waivers set in reverse order of seeding).

Three wins in a row wins it all!!

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the HAW - 128 points (3rd all-time)

Player MVPs:
Alex Smith (QB/KC/D) - 38 points
Tyreek Hill (WR/KC/tH) - 30 points
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea/SS) - 25 points

Regular Season Final Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 45/78 - 57.69%
Yahoo! Projections: 40/78 - 51.28%

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons
Sunday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: New England Patriots @ Miami Dolphins

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Lightning vs. #8 Phys. Ed. Phenoms
Our number one spot has belonged to the Bolts for a couple of weeks now. That just means that they'll have to beat the curse to win the title. The Phenoms know this all too well so they've decided to lose their way into the last playoff spot. Quite an interesting strategy, right? Brady and Brown should be the story but Fournette and whichever QB is starting for PEP could make it interesting.

#2 Stiletto Stompers vs. #7 Baltimorons
The Stompers ended the year by beating the 'Morons (for a second time), winning the South Division, scoring 40+ more points than any other team (the 4th highest season point total in our history), and climbing into second place. They've put themselves in a great position to compete for their first championship. Can they beat Coach Drew for the third time in 2017? JuJu and Gronk are BOTH suspended so that should help.

#3 Misfits, Inc. vs. #6 Predacons
This is another repeat matchup from last week, but this game should be much more entertaining than the snoozer they gave us in the regular season finale. It's hard to believe that these two teams have combined for just three wins in the past four weeks. The E-A-G-L-E-S who play for FitzCorp can't have a second poor performance in a row, right? The Preds may be favored but they've had trouble living up to projections lately.

#4 Dumbbums vs. #5 the HAW
The CAPS needed a win last week to get into the postseason and they left no doubt about it, scoring the third most points of all time. These two were separated by only one point in the 'Bums' week two victory and this one should be just as good. If Josh McCown can get Coach HAW a win this week then Aaron Rodgers is waiting to be reactivated for the quarterfinals. Uh-oh for everyone else. But we'll all have to watch both Prime Time games to see how this one turns out.

Good luck in the playoffs! The trophy awaits!

Thursday, November 30, 2017

3FL Notes: S17: Week 13 Preview

What a week! The Brewers finally won, the Stompers scored in the top five all-time, and the 'Morons completed a MNF comeback to secure a playoff spot and make things very interesting going into our final week of the regular season. We now have three teams vying for our last two postseason tickets (and two of them play against each other). We're in for quite a finale!

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Stiletto Stompers - 126 points (T-4th all-time)

Player MVPs:
Julio Jones (WR/Atl/SS) - 38 points
Antonio Brown (WR/Pit/L) - 30 points
Alvin Kamara (RB/NO/R) - 30 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 43/72 - 59.72%
Yahoo! Projections: 37/72 - 51.39%

Week 13 Information

Thursday Night: Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Seattle Seahawks
Monday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Both of these teams qualified for the postseason with their wins last week but the South Division is still up for grabs to the victor of this matchup. No matter what happens here the league should be on notice regarding the late surge of the Stompers. They lead the league in scoring and put up 126 last week.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The Bolts have secured the top seed no matter what happens this week. Not sure why you'd want to do that, but whatever. This should be a good matchup and both of these teams have more reasons than usual to watch the Steelers on Monday night.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Marauders
It looks like Big Ben will get the start this week in the Marauders' last game of the season. He scored 61 points while sitting on the bench during the last two losses that eliminated them from the playoffs (while Dak scored a combined -6 as the starting QB). Hindsight is 20/20. Meanwhile, PEP could use a win to head into next week with a little momentum.

Renegades (-1/2) vs Yuengling Brewers
The Brewers finally won last week, breaking their losing streak at eight games. That makes 3 wins in their last 20 games. There is no other drama here since both teams will miss the postseason, but maybe the Brew Crew can start next year on a two game winning streak? Or not.

And the games of the week...

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The Preds missed the 3FL playoffs last year for only their second time ever and they aren't assured of returning this season. They're in with a win here or a SpiVi loss, or if they score 15 more points than the losing HAW. None of those things is a given. And we'll need to wait through Prime Time to figure it all out.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. the HAW
WOW. It has all come down to this! The winner of this game gets a spot in the postseason. If SpiVi loses they are out, but the CAPS can qualify with a loss if they score 15 more points than the losing Predacons. Actually Coach HAW can still win the division or be left out of the playoffs based on this week's results. Crazy!!

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 23, 2017

3FL Notes: S17: Week 12 Preview

We saw multiple Monday night comebacks and two more teams punched their ticket to the postseason last week. That leaves half of the playoff spots still available with six teams still mathematically eligible to claim them.

It's going to be an exciting week full of drama and turkey!

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 103 points

Player MVPs:
Antonio Brown (WR/Pit/L) - 32 points
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea/SS) - 29 points
Keenan Allen (WR/LAC/M) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 41/66 - 62.12%
Yahoo! Projections: 34/66 - 51.51%

Week 12 Information

Thursday Early: Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving Late: Los Angeles Chargers @ Dallas Cowboys
Thanksgiving Night: New York Giants @ Washington Redskins
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: Houston Texans @ Baltimore Ravens

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
These two teams have the same record and are second and third in scoring in the league (with only seven points separating them). This week their matchups are even too. The winner will secure a playoff spot and lead the South Division, so this is kind of an important one. Stay tuned for MNF to see how it turns out.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
There are a lot of red pixels spread across these two rosters, to the tune of six Qs, two IRs and one O. There are also a lot of Thanksgiving Day games on the schedule. And the CAPS' starting QB of the week is...Case Keenum.

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Doug Baldwin caught a TD pass with three minutes left in the Monday night game to give the 'Bums a week 11 comeback victory and a postseason berth. They probably won't need the Prime Time heroics this week, but with Le'Veon Bell and the Steelers D playing on SNF, that same story might repeat itself.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The Marauders lost by just three points last week thanks to their QB's -5. (For the record, their bench QB scored 30. Ouch.) So now their only chance at the playoffs is to win out and get some help. The Bolts seeming indifference hasn't stopped them from winning or staying at the top of the league, so this should be a good one.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The Renegades are now mathematically eliminated from the playoffs and they'll miss the postseason for the seventh straight year. So the only drama here will be what FitzCorp decides to do about the Ezekiel Elliott roster spot during his suspension (that lasts until our SuperBowl week).

And the game of the week...

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Another week, another SpiVi high score. They've now put up the most team points in three out of the last four weeks. If this team started their unbelievable run a little earlier they wouldn't be in the predicament that they're in now. But they still have the slightest sliver of hope to play after week 13 and it has to start with another high-flying week against the Phenoms.

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week!

Thursday, November 16, 2017

3FL Notes: S17: Week 11 Preview

FitzCorp started two bye week players and a WR who was ruled out of his game because of injury. They lost by almost 30 points. And in doing so, they somehow grabbed our second playoff spot. Whatever works.

We're back to divisional games and six more postseason berths are still up for grabs with only three weeks remaining. Here we go!

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 115 points

Player MVPs:
Cam Newton (QB/Car/PEP) - 38 points
Mark Ingram (RB/NO/SV) - 31 points
Robert Woods (WR/LAR/tH) - 29 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 39/60 - 65%
Yahoo! Projections: 31/60 - 51.67%

Week 11 Information

Thursday Night: Tennessee Titans @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ Seattle Seahawks
Bye Week: Carolina, Indianapolis, NY Jets, San Francisco

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 11:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Both of these South Division foes come into this game having lost their last three in a row. The only guarantee is that one of them will finally get a win and a boost toward the playoffs. Also the Preds are guaranteed to start all the wrong WRs.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
It's looking like the Bolts might not check their lineup again until the end of the regular season, but as of right now they're still in the top spot of the standings. The Stompers are the new leaders of the South and look strong this week despite their bye week problems. But will they put active players in the starting lineup?

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Two of the past three weeks have ended with SpiVi going over the century mark and outscoring the rest of the league. It might be too little too late, but there are still 3 weeks to go and anything is possible. It all starts with a win here against a evenly matched opponent. Games from tonight all the way through Monday night will make it exciting.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
PEP completed an amazing MNF comeback last week as Cam Newton scored 38 points to give them a 1 pt. victory. He's on a bye this week, though. And the CAPS are desperate, clinging to the 8th spot as of right now. Advantage to the team that is starting Eli Manning I guess.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Things just got a lot more interesting for FitzCorp as Zeke declared he will drop the appeal and serve his whole suspension. That means he's not available until SuperBowl week in the 3FL. The Brew Crew has lost seven straight and would move up (down) the all-time list with another loss here. Which is not assured since the Corporation seems ok with starting bye week players.

And the game of the week...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Tonight's game at Heinz Field has huge implications on this matchup (even if Big Ben doesn't get the start for the Marauders). Then we have to wait until Prime Time for the conclusion, but it will be a good one. As long as the 'Bums pick up a kicker...

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S17: Week 10 Preview

The Lightning just claimed our first playoff spot and it's already Rivalry Week in the 3FL. We should be in for an exciting last month of the season!

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 104 points

Player MVPs:
T.Y. Hilton (WR/Ind/D) - 29 points
Carson Wentz (QB/Phi/MI) - 27 points
Alvin Kamara (RB/NO/R) - 24 points
Dak Prescott (QB/Dal/M) - 24 points
Tyrod Taylor (QB/Buf/L) - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 34/54 - 62.96%
Yahoo! Projections: 26/54 - 48.15%

Week 10 Information

Thursday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona Cardinals
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night: Miami Dolphins @ Carolina Panthers
Bye Week: Baltimore, Kansas City, Oakland, Philadelphia

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for Rivalry Week:

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Both starting QBs for these teams have a bye and their replacements will make it a close game. A lot of the outcome will ride on the Steelers performance on Sunday and multiple players in tonight's TNF matchup. And, of course, injuries.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
It will be interesting to see how the playoff-bound Bolts decide to approach the last month of the regular season. Their ticket to the postseason is already punched, so do they just keep a bye week K on the starting roster instead of dropping someone who might be useful later? That strategy might also be helpful if they don't want to stay in the #1 spot.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Speaking of bye week players in the starting lineup, our top scoring team has put up 90+ points and won two in a row with starter(s) on a bye. Can they do that again? Probably not (with the Eagles off this week). The more interesting story will be how this whole Ezekiel Elliot scenario plays out. It could affect FitzCorp in the playoffs.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
It hasn't been the best season so far for the Renegades but I'm sure they'd enjoy a win in our annual twin billing. They've got a shot too, depending on the health of their Thursday night WR. But if the Stompers end up paying attention to their bye week issues then it could be more of the same.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Brew Crew has now lost six in a row (and 15 of their last 17). Ouch. Their only win in the second half of last season? That would be during Rivalry Week against the HAW. It's possible that they can do it again this year, but even with the ridiculous run of injuries Coach HAW's team looks like they should bring their record back to .500.

And the game of the week...

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds have lost two in a row and their four remaining games are all against teams in the top five. PEP is heading in the opposite direction, winning their last two and taking over the West Division. But this should still be a great one. Every position is even across the board and it will come down to MNF. It should be an exciting way to end Rivalry Week.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 02, 2017

3FL Notes: S17: Week 9 Preview

We saw another one point game last week and the Bolts jumped back up into the top spot. Can they stay there? Would they rather not??

With six NFL teams on a bye again it will be interesting to see which players end up in a starting lineup.

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 103 points

Player MVPs:
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea/SS) - 34 points
Deshaun Watson (QB/Hou/PEP) - 32 points
DeAndre Hopkins (WR/Hou/SV) - 28 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 31/48 - 64.58%
Yahoo! Projections: 24/48 - 50%

Week 9 Information

Thursday Night: Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets
Sunday Night: Oakland Raiders @ Miami Dolphins
Monday Night: Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers
Bye Week: Chicago, Cleveland, LA Chargers, Minnesota, New England, Pittsburgh

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Ten over two?!? Let me explain. I know that FitzCorp just beat the #1 team (even with a benched K). But things are getting real for our top scorers as Ezekiel Elliott is most likely perhaps probably maybe suspended again and they have a bench full of bye week RBs. Meanwhile SpiVi just outscored the whole league after a half season of underperforming. Upset in the making.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. the HAW
We all know how snakebit the CAPS have been injury-wise this season. But they just lost by one point last week because their WR threw an INT on MNF. Yikes. Something is clearly going on this season and the Renegades need to capitalize on the HAW's (un)luck and WR bye weeks if they want a shot at the postseason.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The Preds (as predicted) lost last week but thankfully they'll have Gurley back against the 'Bums. Also the matchups favor Coach Sinkerbeam's team thanks to Le'Veon and the Steelers on their bye. It would just be helpful if their QB doesn't score negative points again.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
PEP is on top of the West Division and has won four of their last five, but this one is all about how bad the Brewers will be. They are our lowest scoring team and have lost five games in a row. Don't look now but there is still enough time for them to break the record for longest losing streak before the end of the year.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The Bolts replaced the 'Morons the top of the standings after an improbable MNF game last week, but their luck won't continue here. Coach Drew has a good opportunity to retake the #1 seed with both Brady and AB on a bye.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
I know we still have five weeks left, but this matchup could have big playoff implications. And it's going to be a good one as these two are evenly matched. The Stompers are second in scoring and they should run out to a big lead, but Coach Hoss has four players in prime time games for a push at a MNF comeback.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 26, 2017

3FL Notes: S17: Week 8 Preview

The ends continue to pull away in our league, as the top five teams won and the bottom three lost last week.

This week (and next) both have six NFL teams on a bye so things should get interesting. Also be aware that there is ANOTHER game in London this week. Again at 9:30am EST on Sunday. Someone in the NFL offices must like tea and scones, but we're sending them Cleveland this time.

Week 7 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc - 118 points

Player MVPs:
Ezekiel Elliott (RB/Dal/MI) - 39 points
Carson Wentz (QB/Phi/MI) - 33 points
Dak Prescott (QB/Dal/M) - 30 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 27/42 - 64.29%
Yahoo! Projections: 22/42 - 52.38%

Week 8 Information

Thursday Night: Miami Dolphins @ Baltimore Ravens
Sunday Morning: Minnesota Vikings @ Cleveland Browns
Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Detroit Lions
Monday Night: Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs
Bye Week: Arizona, Green Bay, Jacksonville, LA Rams, NY Giants, Tennessee

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 8:

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
We've got a lot of even matchups on the schedule this week. This one is going to be close, and it's also going to be important. SpiVi needs a win to have any hope of making the playoffs. Coach Hoss is ok with that not happening.

Stiletto Stompers (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
It's a little unfair to be third in scoring and eighth in the standings, but that's the situation the Stompers find themselves in. They get to play the Brew Crew (our lowest scoring team) this week. But everyone seems to have a good game against Coach Bev this year.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. the HAW
It's not easy to lose your top RB, QB and TE. But the CAPS can't even keep their replacement QB healthy (he's now on IR, too). Meanwhile the Bolts are flying high with Brady and Brown still racking up the points. Look out.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
PEP outscored the league two weeks in a row. Then they followed up those performances with their worst weekly score ever. So which Phenoms team shows up this week? This one might turn out to be the 'Bums' second tie.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
This heavyweight battle is going to live up to the hype. The 'Morons just keep winning but they have an entire bench worth of bye week players this week. FitzCorp just took over the points lead and only needs to replace a K. Plus the matchups favor the Corporation.

And the game of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds have a tough schedule during the last month of the regular season but they shouldn't look past this game. Their best player (TGII) is on a bye and Drew Brees can always make things interesting. Upset special of the month.

Happy Halloween and good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S17: Week 7 Preview

The Spiked Vipers finally won and ended their losing streak at nine games. Are they ready to turn their season around now that we're officially at the halfway point?

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Phys. Ed. Phenoms - 103 points

Player MVPs:
Melvin Gordon (RB/LAC/M) - 26 points
Le'Veon Bell (RB/Pit/D) - 24 points
Mark Ingram (RB/NO/SV) - 24 points
Deshaun Watson (QB/Hou/PEP) - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 22/36 - 61.11%
Yahoo! Projections: 16/36 - 44.44%

Week 7 Information

Thursday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Oakland Raiders
Sunday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ New England Patriots
Monday Night: Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles
Bye Week: Detroit Lions, Houston Texans

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Losing the first overall pick in the first game is tough. Losing third round pick Aaron Rodgers soon after makes things much worse. Somehow the CAPS are still 3-3 and the matchups are pointing to another win this week. Related: be safe out there, Brandin Cooks.

Lightning (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The 'Bolts returned to their winning ways again last week and they get a softball against our lowest ranked and lowest scoring team. Right? It could get ugly.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
SpiVi beat the Brewers last week, picking up their first win since November of last year (when they also beat the Brewers). The playoffs are looking like a long shot but you never know. And this one will be close if Winston's injury keeps him on the bench.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Now that the Spiked Vipers finally won a game, the Renegades take over as the team with the longest losing streak at 4 games. The Marauders have now lost two in a row. So I guess at least one team gets to pick up a win in this one.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Have the defending champs locked up the East already? We're only through week six and they already have twice as many wins as the rest of the division combined. The Eagle-to-Eagle hookup has been working and that will continue against the 'Bums.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
PEP led the league in scoring the last two weeks in a row. Can they do it again against our #1 team? Even with both of their high total players getting a Q tag? It's a player in every time slot kind of game and it should be a good one.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S17: Week 6 Preview

NFL week five left us with no undefeated teams. And SpiVi lost again. That makes nine in a row and ties them for the longest losing streak in our history.

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Phys. Ed. Phenoms - 114 points

Player MVPs:
Deshaun Watson (QB/Hou/PEP) - 40 point
Leonard Fournette (RB/Jax/PEP) - 30 points
Carson Wentz (QB/Phi/MI) - 29 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 17/30 - 56.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 13/30 - 43.33%

Week 6 Information

Thursday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Carolina Panthers
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans
Bye Week: Buffalo, Cincinnati, Dallas, Seattle

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Both teams have alternated wins and losses to get to this point in the season, but the edge here goes to the CAPS thanks to the matchups. Also FitzCorp's QB & WR going against their own D will take too many points from each other.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Big Ben scored -4 points for the Marauders last week. Ouch. And now they get to play our new #1 team. Although the 'Morons do have 5 Qs and an O as I write this. Good luck to both teams I guess.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Last week the Bolts lost for the first time this season while the Preds jumped ahead of them in the standings after winning their fourth in a row. But after this week it looks like they'll switch back. Especially if Kelce can't play.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Renegades
It's been a tough start to the season for both of these teams, although PEP finally broke out last week with a 100+ point performance. The Renegades would like to double their win total this week for obvious reason, but having both starting RBs on a bye will make that difficult.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Usually a game in the middle of the season between the two last place teams wouldn't be very exciting, but this one has ALL THE DRAMA. The Brew Crew finally scored more than 60 points last week, so that's something. But all eyes will be on SpiVi as they try to win a game for the first time since week 12 of 2016. Another L here would mean double digit losses in a row and a place atop the 3FL records for the outright longest losing streak of all time.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
This is going to be a good one. After passing the century mark in the first three weeks, the Stompers were unlucky and then unfocused. The 'Bums haven't lost since opening weekend but that tie isn't helpful. A lot of this matchup will ride on the Steelers game before it ultimately comes down to Monday night.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S17: Week 5 Preview

Monday Night Football gave us and exciting end to week four (including two one-point games). And after four weeks we still have one winless and one undefeated team (with a tie).

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 103 points

Player MVPs:
Le'Veon Bell (RB/Pit/D) - 30 points
Todd Gurley II (RB/LAR/P) - 27 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/tH) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 12/24 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 10/24 - 41.67%

Nobody voted for a month, so league pick'em is disabled

Week 5 Information

Thursday Night: New England Patriots @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sunday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Houston Texans
Monday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears
Bye Week: Atlanta, Denver, New Orleans, Washington

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The Renegades could really use another win so that things don't get out of hand so early in the season. They picked the right week to play the 'Morons. Although as of right now neither of them have a QB who is going to get on the field.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
SpiVi moved up (down?) one last week with their eighth straight loss thanks to a MNF end-of-regulation field goal. Another one this week and they'll tie the worst losing streak in the history of the league. It may all come down to Monday night again.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Yahoo! places this as the highest scoring game of the week, and it might be, but those projections look pretty high across the board. PEP's QB choice (and OBJ's health) will be the difference.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This will probably be excruciating to watch for Coach Hoss to watch, as the CAPS have players during every game time from Thursday to Monday. Although it might be over before the Vikings take the field in Prime Time.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
All of FitzCorp's TEs have a bye this week, but they'll figure that out before Sunday at 1pm. Meanwhile, the Stompers have some bye week issues of their own. But as long as their fill-ins make it into the lineup this will be a great matchup.

And the game of the week...

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Preds topped the league in scoring again last week and now they get to play the lowest scoring team in the league. You'd think that would be a good thing, but this game is going to be closer than you think. Especially if Crabtree doesn't play again.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 28, 2017

3FL Notes: S17: Week 4 Preview

A tie already? It almost seems like a shame when two teams put up 100+ points only to end up with the exact same score.

Remember that the byes are starting for real this week. And don't forget about another game in Old England at 9:30am EDT on Sunday. Set your players in that matchup before it begins.

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the Haw/Stiletto Stompers - 112 points

Player MVPs:
Tom Brady (QB/NE/L) - 37 points
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea/SS) - 33 points
Todd Gurley II (RB/LAR/P) - 32 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 10/18 - 55.56%
League Voting: 10/18 - 55.56%
Yahoo! Projections: 7/18 - 38.89%

Ok, this is the last week to try for league voting.

Week 4 Information
Thursday Night: Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
Sunday Morning (London): New Orleans Saints @ Miami Dolphins
Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Seattle Seahawks
Monday Night: Washington Redskins @ Kansas City Chiefs
Bye Week: No more until next week

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Even without the #1 overall draft pick the CAPS have managed to earn the top score twice in our first three weeks. The Preds have shown a glimmer of brilliance but Aaron Rodgers is probably going to be the difference.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
These two are very evenly matched and it looks like it's going to come down to MNF. And which of their WRs can actually get into the starting lineup.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The Bolts have taken over the top stop in the standings thanks to last week's tie. Meanwhile, it only took until the third game for FitzCorp to get QB for the E-A-G-L-E-S into the mix. But there's still a slight edge here to Tom Brady's team.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
How about those Stompers? They're the top scoring team in the league and our only club to put up more than 100 points in each of the first three weeks. If they can hit triple digits again they'll have a good shot at another win.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Wow, there are a lot of great matchups this week! Both teams could end up with the W here, but we all know it's going to come down to Big Ben and Bosworth vs. Baltimore that tells the story.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
SpiVi pushed their losing streak to 7 games last week (stretching all the way back through the final week of the 2016 season). That's enough to make the list. Can they finally grab a win? The matchups seem to be in their favor.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 21, 2017

3FL Notes: S17: Week 3 Preview

Week two gave us four team scores above 100 points and four below 60 points. And we also had our first one point game (thanks to a MNF holdout).

Get ready for the last of our first set of intra-divisional games until the end of the season! Also remember that the Ravens and Jags play early Sunday morning in London this week.

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 121 points

Player MVPs:
C.J. Anderson (RB/Den/M) - 26 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE/L) - 26 points
Michael Crabtree (WR/Oak/P) - 26 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 7/12 - 58.33%
League Voting: 7/12 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 6/12 - 50%

Go vote! Seriously - only one team voted last week. I'll turn off the voting option if nobody votes this week.

Week 3 Information

Thursday Night: LA Rams @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday Morning: Baltimore Ravens @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday Night: Oakland Raiders @ Washington Redskins
Monday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Arizona Cardinals
Bye Week: No more until week 5

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
It has not been a great start to the season for the Brew Crew. They've scored an average of almost 35 fewer points than projections in our first two weeks. But maybe this is the week the Beermen get their first win, since the Renegades have had their own issues with underperforming.

Lightning (-2) vs. Dumbbums
Lots of important pieces to this matchup will be active during the Steelers game on Sunday. But don't sleep on an angry Tom Brady either.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Predacons
This game will probably come down to which Preds team shows up. They have scored the highest and almost the lowest totals in our first two weeks. A return to the middle means a slight edge for Marauders.

the HAW (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
SpiVi is our only team to not reach triple digits in season scoring yet. They'll obviously cross that threshold this week, but posting enough points to beat the CAPS isn't going to be easy. Coach HAW may have lost David Johnson but he still has Aaron Rodgers.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Between these two there are enough Qs and Ds for an entire starting lineup. A lot will depend on if those players end up starting (and if they can get through a whole football game). Prime Time matchups will also play a part.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Remember a few weeks ago when Yahoo! gave the South Division teams the three worst draft grades in the whole league? Well after two games they are by far the highest scoring division in the 3FL. These two will continue their high-flying ways, but Gronk's injury gives the slightest advantage to the Stompers.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S17: Week 2 Preview

Opening weekend had a little bit of everything, including close games, MNF comebacks, injuries and high-flying scoring. Week 2 will bring more of all of those things.

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the HAW - 107 points

Player MVPs:
Kareem Hunt (RB/KC/SS) - 39 points
LA Rams Defense (tH) - 28 points
Stefon Diggs (WR/Min/tH) - 21 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 4/6 - 66.66%
League Voting: 4/6 - 66.66%
Yahoo! Projections: 4/6 - 66.66%

Go vote!

Week 2 Information

Thursday Night: Houston Texans @ Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Atlanta Falcons
Monday Night: Detroit Lions @ New York Giants
Bye Week: No more until week 5

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The night games hold the keys to this matchup. The Brew Crew has to do better than last week, but Coach Drew should cruise here (depending on which WRs he chooses to start).

the HAW (-2) vs. Dumbbums
So last week the CAPS lost first overall pick David Johnson to injury until around Christmas. And they still outscored everyone in the league. He'll be hard to replace but Coach HAW is projected to score almost 100 again this week.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
This one is going to be fun to watch. Both teams lost last week but are projected to put up big points in week two. Is OBJ healthy? Did PEP pick up every player on the waiver wire hot list?

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Renegades
A win here would put FitzCorp in command of the East Division. Coach Val has hit the waiver wire, though, and it will be a close matchup. The Defenses might be the story here.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Stompers scored in the triple digits last week, riding surprise RB Kareem Hunt to an easy win. Meanwhile the Preds put up only one point more than our lowest scoring team. Can we blame that on Irma or is it going to be a season long thing?

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The three teams in the North are only one point away from each other's totals each after our first week. That means the winner of this game will take over the early lead in the division and all eyes will be on Sunday night (and a little bit on Monday night).

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 07, 2017

3FL Notes: S17: Week 1 Preview

Can Misfits, Inc. defend their SuperBowl title? Will the Predacons make it back to the playoffs? Will anyone get a new twitter account or vote on any of our games? Only the 3FL season will have these answers...

It all starts tonight. Get your team ready to go!

Voting is up and running for the season, but there is now an option to turn it off if nobody else votes after the first few weeks.

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ New England Patriots
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night Early: New Orleans Saints @ Minnesota Vikings
Monday Night Late: Los Angeles Chargers @ Denver Broncos
Bye Week (thanks to Irma): Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Bucs

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Predacons
This would be a great matchup if Hurricane Irma didn't put three of the Preds starters on a week 1 bye. But Gronk vs. Kelce on Thursday night should be entertaining.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Drafting while traveling and drafting while sleeping meet in this one. And the edge goes to the team with a stronger RB tandem (and more sky miles).

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Marauders
Lots of Steelers highlight this game, with two black and gold players on each team. And Bell and Big Ben should be the difference makers for their respective teams.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Brady and Brown are going to be the story all year for the Bolts, but Coach Val is going to make it close this week. And with players in each time slot we'll have to watch all week to see just how close it ends up.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Our first week seems to be filled with good matchups. This one will be another close game, but the slight edge to SpiVi just because both of Coach Bev's RBs are rookies.

And the game of the week...

the HAW (-1/2) vs Phys. Ed Phenoms
Both of these teams scored an A on their Yahoo! draft report card. It should be a good one, but I still can't believe that the CAPS have both David Johnson and Aaron Rodgers.

Good luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 17!

3FL Notes: 2017 Draft Analysis

Eleven Twelfths of our teams were represented during the online draft on Thursday night. Here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. the HAW: David Johnson was the consensus number one pick this year, but the CAPS also snagged Aaron Rodgers. Their starting lineup is strong but their bench is weak. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: A)

2. Dumbbums: Coach Coaldog was present at the draft and that was a clear upgrade over his past experiences of letting the computer pick. There are a few holes but some of his sleepers might surprise. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B)

3. Lightning: The Bolts forgot about the draft until after their first pick (and a well-timed text). They seem to have recovered though, grabbing one of the top grades according to Yahoo! Grade: A- (Yahoo! Grade: A)

4. Renegades: Drafting across the room from PEP must have been interesting. Coach Val ended up with some frustrated chatting and a decent but uneven roster. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B+)

5. Phys. Ed. Phenoms: PEP was awarded the Toyota Best Draft for the second straight season. I can see that honor coming from the algorithm, but their untested RBs will make or break the season. And they better stay healthy. Grade: A (Yahoo! Grade: A)

6: Stiletto Stompers: The Stompers are not as bad as their report card would make you assume. Some of the picks were actually downright surprising (in a good way). Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: C)

7: Predacons: One year after missing the playoffs for only the second time in our history, Yahoo! would have you believe the the Preds have no chance at the postseason in 2017. We'll just have to see about that. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: C+)

8: Baltimorons: Coach Drew would probably agree that this draft wasn't his best ever, but Gronk and Devonta can win games by themselves. I'll admit that there were some strange choices though. Grade: C (Yahoo! Grade: C+)

9: Marauders: Coach Hoss still hasn't learned to skip the iPad app for the draft. That being said, things turned out pretty well. Although who are those two TEs? Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B-)

10: Spiked Vipers: SpiVi ended up with top tier talent at each position, and they even followed a normal round-by-round strategy! Ok, at least until picking a K in the 8th. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: B+)

11: Misfits, Inc.: Our defending champion participated in the draft while waiting for a flight at the airport in Chicago. Thanks to the mobile app he has a good chance to make it back to the title game. Even with a guy named Younghoe on the roster. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

12: Yuengling Brewers: Our lone team that was grayed out during the draft, the Brew Crew let the autodraft take control and that was not a bad strategic move. This team looks solid. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: B)

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions soon. Stay tuned.
