SuperBowl XIX Champion!

Congratulations to Coach Tim on winning his second 3FL championship!

Misfits, Inc. left no doubt about it as they outscored everyone else in the league. They also set the record for most team points in a SuperBowl, most points scored in a postseason week, and most points scored during the three weeks of a playoff run.

Stay tuned later in the week for final stats and the 2019 season wrap-up.

Happy holidays and thanks to everyone for a great year!

3FL Notes: S19: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

What. A. Week.

Our semifinals were everything you could ask for, from being the highest scoring playoff week of all time (by nearly 60 points!) to having a total of 3 points separate the winners of the two championship bracket games. We even had a last minute TD flip an outcome and a MNF comeback to seal a SuperBowl berth.

Seems like we're in for an exciting championship week in all of our matchups!

Remember that the Thursday games are finally finished but there are three Saturday games this week. The last game of our playoffs is this Monday night. Happy Festivus of football!

Week 15 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 117 points

Player MVPs:
Lamar Jackson (QB/Bal/P) - 42 points (most, playoffs all-time)
Jameis Winston (QB/TB/MI) - 31 points
Ezekiel Elliott (RB/Dal/SV) - 27 points
Minnesota Vikings Defense (YB) - 27 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

Yahoo! Projections: 6/8 - 75%

Week 16 Information
Saturday Afternoon: Houston Texans @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Saturday Late: Buffalo Bills @ New England Patriots
Saturday Night: Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Chicago Bears
Monday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Minnesota Vikings

It's SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#6 Marauders vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
These teams posted the lowest two scores in the quarterfinals and then again in the semis, so I guess it makes sense that they ended up here. One of them will at least get a win and not end up in eighth place. Perhaps it will be the one with a healthy kicker (and also Pat Mahomes).

For 5th Place:
#5 the HAW vs. #7 Yuengling Brewers
The Brew Crew outscored everyone else one week too late. Now they have a chance to face the CAPS to win the consolation bracket and start next season on a two game winning streak. These two have at least one player in every single time slot so it will be a long weekend of football. Whoever makes the right choice at QB and DEF has a definite advantage.

For 3rd Place:
#3 Predacons vs. #4 Spiked Vipers
It's appropriate that the top two scoring teams in regular season history face off in championship week, but shouldn't it be for more than a digital bronze trophy? I mean, it's been 19 straight years for the Preds without a title, so that one is a given. But SpiVi was ahead by a point with :03 left in the last game of their semifinal matchup. 3 seconds! And their defense gave up a TD to drop their total by 2 and watch their team lose by one. This one should be high flying fun, but does it really matter?

3FL SuperBowl XIX
#1 Lightning vs. #2 Misfits, Inc.
Our 2019 champion will come from the 3FL North. What a matchup we have in store, with our top two seeds facing off in the postseason finale. The Bolts are looking to keep the trophy on their mantle for a second year in a row (and third time overall) while FitzCorp won their only title in 2016. These two are evenly matched but they'll have to navigate the Q tags spread across their rosters.

The Lightning have lost only twice in their last 21 games, but one of those losses was against Misfits, Inc. just three weeks ago. Can the Corporation do it again? Or will Coach Thad take back-to-back titles and continue their ridiculous run atop the league? Things start tonight but won't be decided until each team has their final player on MNF. Can we handle any more prime time drama?

Good luck this week!

Thanks to all for another fun season!!

3FL Notes: S19: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

For the first time since 2013 our top four seeds advanced to the semis, but it took some Monday night drama to get there. It ended up as our 3rd highest scoring playoff week ever and two teams put up playoff point totals in the top five of all time.

All individual team pages (see links on the sidebar) and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2019 regular season. This year's additions to the records page are in bold. Through 1,500 regular season games we have scored a combined 196,919 points and each of our original 11 teams have played exactly 250 games.

Don't forget, the four teams still in the championship bracket will have only one player add available this week.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 128 points (T-1st, playoffs all-time)

Player MVPs:
Jameis Winston (QB/TB/MI) - 33 points
Austin Ekeler (RB/LAC/tH) - 27 points
Aaron Jones (RB/GB/MI) - 24 points
Ryan Tannehill (QB/Ten/SV) - 24 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

Yahoo! Projections: 3/4 - 75%

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: New York Jets @ Baltimore Ravens
Sunday Night: Buffalo Bills @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ New Orleans Saints

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl XIX, losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 Lightning vs. #4 Spiked Vipers
SpiVi flexed their muscles last week and tied the highest point total for a playoff week in our history. Add this to the fact that they scored the second most points ever in a regular season and that they're projected to score almost 100 points (again), and they're clearly not going to be an easy out. But if there's a team that can beat them it just might be the Bolts. They survived a down week in the quarterfinals (and the curse so far), but have only lost twice in their last twenty games. Twice! We won't have to wait for the result. This one will be over at around 7:30pm on Sunday.

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #3 Predacons
These teams have a combined seven players with a Q designation, including both starting QBs. Which of their skill players will take the field? That could tell the story. FitzCorp has the edge based on the matchups but both teams have players that can take over a game. All eyes will be on tonight's game as the Preds try to get things started but the SuperBowl spot won't be decided until prime time.

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#5 the HAW vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
I told you it was going to come down to MNF for the CAPS last week, but whoa. They actually made an incredible comeback but lost a heartbreaker in the waning minutes of the last game of the week. But don't be too sad for them - Coach HAW has as many SuperBowl victories as the four teams left in the championship bracket combined. They shouldn't have much trouble with the Stompers this week but that's why they play the game, right?

#6 Marauders vs. #7 Yuengling Brewers
This might have been our best game of the week if the Cowboys didn't cut the Marauders' kicker on Tuesday. Injuries are also scattered around these two rosters, but the players that do get to play will be evenly matched. Last week Coach Hoss had more points on the bench than in the starting lineup. They'll have a shot at the 5th place game if they can make the right choices this week.

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl awaits!

Thursday, December 05, 2019

3FL Notes: S19: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

Our five remaining playoff spots weren't officially decided until the MNF game in week 13. It's already shaping up to be an exciting run to SuperBowl XIX!

Remember that ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 1pm THIS SUNDAY, December 8th. Under our playoff rules you will be allowed to make 1 add/drop per week once the postseason starts, but only teams still in the winners bracket will be eligible to make a move (with waivers set in reverse order of seeding).

Three wins in a row wins it all!!

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 113 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/R) - 30 points
Deshaun Watson (QB/Hou/tH) - 28 points
James White (RB/NE/D) - 28 points

Regular Season Final Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 47/78 - 60.26%
Yahoo! Projections: 43/78 - 55.13%

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Chicago Bears
Sunday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ Los Angeles Rams
Monday Night: New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Lightning vs. #8 Stiletto Stompers
Can you believe the Bolts lost again this season? I wonder if they've lost a little momentum going into the playoffs. They'll have to deal with the curse (which they knew long ago) but this game might be our best matchup of the week. It's going to come down to personnel decisions and which coach does better at managing the 3+ Qs on each side.

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #7 Yuengling Brewers
FitzCorp rolls into the playoffs after beating our defending champ in week 13 but they'll have their hands full with the Brew Crew this week. In fact our two seed is an underdog according to the projections. The players are even across the board but the prime time matchups will provide the drama. The Corporation may need to root for Saquon Barkley vs. the Eagles for the MNF comeback.

#3 Predacons vs. #6 Marauders
The scoring title ended up in the hands of the Preds this year, as they posted the most regular season points in our history. Lamar Jackson can continue his dominance and lead them through the postseason but we've all read this story before (18 different times). The Marauders have won their last three in a row and match up well across the board. All eyes will be on Monday Night Football to see who ends up in the semis.

#4 Spiked Vipers vs. #5 the HAW
SpiVi ended up second in scoring with the second highest total ever (by two points) after leading the league for most of the season. They may be 7-6 but they can break out in any week. Meanwhile the CAPS clawed their way up from last place just a few weeks ago and won in our regular season finale to keep their playoff spot. This battle stretches through every game time this weekend. It should be a good one!

Good luck in the playoffs! The trophy awaits!!

Thursday, November 28, 2019

3FL Notes: S19: Week 13 Preview

We're on track to break some season-long records this week, and with more than half of the playoff spots still available it should be quite a finale!

Here's to an exciting week full of football and drama and turkey!!

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 143 points (5th all-time)

Player MVPs:
Lamar Jackson (QB/Bal/P) - 42 points
Ryan Tannehill (QB/Ten/SV) - 31 points
Chris Godwin (WR/TB/SV) - 30 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 42/72 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 38/72 - 52.78%

Week 13 Information

Thanksgiving Early: Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving Late: Buffalo Bills @ Dallas Cowboys
Thanksgiving Night: New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Houston Texans
Monday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Seattle Seahawks

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
SpiVi must have noticed that they dropped to second place in the scoring race, so they went out and posted 143 last week to retain the title for now. They can break the record for most points in a season with a good showing against the 'Morons, but Coach Drew is desperate for a victory (and some help) to vault his team into the postseason. Those two ties will obviously be the difference.

Renegades (-1) vs. Dumbbums
It is technically possible for the 'Bums to still earn a playoff spot, but it's not realistic. Even if they earn a win this week they'd probably need to score double our highest total ever to even have a shot at playing next week. Plus the backup to their backup's backup has already been ruled out of today's game. Ouch.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The CAPS took a step back last week after their ridiculous jump from last to fifth over the previous three weeks. They still look like (just about) a lock for the playoffs thanks to their point total but a win here would make it a sure thing. The Preds have been on the good side of the Biggest Blowout™ the last three weeks in a row (and four of the last five). That's not going to happen again with these even matchups.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
This could be a preview of SuperBowl XIX and will probably be our best game of the week. The Bolts cannot stop winning but they'll be facing a FitzCorp team that has already qualified for the playoffs and can keep up with our top seed across the roster. But with nothing to really lose or gain there is nothing to see here.

And the games of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
The Stompers currently sit in ninth place (and the first spot out) while the Phenoms are in sixth. But Mahomes seems to be back to full strength and Coach Bev is a big favorite to win there, which could flip flop these teams in the standings. Either way it's likely for the loser to miss qualifying for the playoffs. And it's all going to come down to a Stompers comeback on MNF.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
This is a great matchup that also has serious postseason implications. Either of these teams is in with a win but might be knocked out with a loss and some unlucky outcomes across the league. Both have to hope to score above projections starting today, when Coach Hoss has two players going and Coach Brew has a starter in each of the early, late and night games. Do you think that was on purpose?

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week!

Thursday, November 21, 2019

3FL Notes: S19: Week 12 Preview

Two more teams qualified for the playoffs after our lowest scoring week since the beginning of 2017. There are still five postseason spots remaining with only two weeks to go, and every team is still in contention.

It's the last week of NFL byes. Finally!

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 103 points

Player MVPs:
Lamar Jackson (QB/Bal/P) - 36 points
Sam Darnold (QB/NYJ/PEP) - 27 points
John Brown (WR/Buf/P) - 25 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 39/66 - 59.09%
Yahoo! Projections: 34/66 - 51.52%

Week 12 Information

Thursday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ San Francisco 49ers
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Los Angeles Rams
Bye Week: Cardinals, Chargers, Chiefs, Vikings

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
This one is going to be close, with the matchups looking just about even across the board. The RBs tilt the scales slightly to FitzCorp but don't count out Russell Wilson. It's looking like we'll have to wait until MNF to crown a victor.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
In just three weeks the CAPS have gone from twelfth place to fifth. That's pretty impressive. A win here might bump them up even more, but it might also keep PEP out of the top eight. Even with that tie.

Predacons (-1) vs. Dumbbums
The Preds have been on the winning side of the Biggest Blowout™ for three out of the last four weeks, and they just took sole possession of the scoring lead. The 'Bums are in last place and are our lowest scoring team. These two played back in week two and the Predacons won (in the Biggest Blowout™of that week). All of this just means it will probably end up Dumbbums by 25.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Another tie for the Baltimorons this season makes the playoff picture more complicated. The winning team here puts themselves in the mix for a meaningful game next week. The loser might have to start thinking about next year.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Renegades
So the 'Bolts have locked in the top seed and the opportunity to break the curse. Is that a good thing? Their roster this week looks like one that's waiting for the playoffs to start, but they might win anyway. That will only tinker with the postseason hopes of the Renegades.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
There might be a different feeling going into this week had the Stompers taken a quick look at their lineup last week. It looks like they're starting a full lineup this week, but it doesn't help that Pat Mahomes in on a bye and that five other players have a Q next to them. Still, it will be fun matchup that will finish up on Sunday night.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 14, 2019

3FL Notes: S19: Week 11 Preview

It was an exciting Rivalry Week but we still have seven playoff spots available. Maybe a couple more will be claimed this week?

We're back to divisional games with only three weeks remaining. Here we go!

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 116 points

Player MVPs:
Lamar Jackson (QB/Bal/P) - 34 points
Daniel Jones (QB/NYG/PEP) - 32 points
Derrick Henry (RB/Ten/L) - 30 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 35/60 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 32/60 - 53.33%

Week 11 Information

Thursday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cleveland Browns
Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ Los Angeles Rams
Monday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers
Bye Week: Giants, Packers, Seahawks, Titans

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 11:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
In an entire year of fantasy football the Bolts have lost one game. One. So even if the projections are in favor of the Brew Crew you'll forgive me for still picking the Lightning. You too?

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Two weeks ago I mentioned how the CAPS were in 12th place but that they had a great chance to make the playoffs anyway. Well they've already jumped up to the 8th spot and they can leapfrog the Stompers in the standings with a win against them here.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The West Division swept their Rivalry Week games and now two of them get to play each other. The Preds just climbed into a tie for the scoring lead but they'll probably need to figure out a WR3. And the Renegades have some Q issues of their own.

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
The 'Morons might be in 11th place at the moment but their week one tie might end up being important in our final regular season standings. They've also had SO MANY points scored against them, but it's not looking like PEP will continue that trend.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Marauders
After four straight losses the Marauders are in last place with only three weeks to go. But that's only one game out of a postseason spot. They'll probably need a win this week to start in that direction, but SpiVi is averaging more than 99 points per game.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Fitzcorp is in second place after winning their last four in a row and they have a shot at earning a playoff spot this week (even though their best players are on a bye). The 'Bums still have a lot of Steelers on their roster. And it's not the year for that.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 07, 2019

3FL Notes: S19: Week 10 Preview

The Lightning have claimed our first playoff spot and earned a chance to defend the title. We should be in for an exciting last month of the season, as even our last place team is within one game of a postseason spot.

Can you believe it's already Rivalry Week in the 3FL?!? Don't forget that this is the bye week for six NFL teams. Six! Yikes.

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 112 points

Player MVPs:
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea/YB) - 41 points
Christian McCaffrey (RB/Car/B) - 34 points
Lamar Jackson (QB/Bal/P) - 27 points
Tyler Lockett (WR/Sea/SS) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 31/54 - 57.41%
Yahoo! Projections: 29/54 - 53.70%

Week 10 Information

Thursday Night: Los Angeles Chargers @ Oakland Raiders
Sunday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers
Bye Week: Broncos, Eagles, Jaguars, Patriots, Redskins, Texans

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for Rivalry Week:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
Sometimes you get lucky. Like when you score the 11th fewest points in a week but you play the 12th lowest point scorer. That low total is unlikely to happen again for FitzCorp (since they seem to have a starting K), but they should have little problem with PEP and their bench full of players on a bye.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Preds were on opposite sides of the Biggest Blowout™ in the past two weeks. Which team will show up against the Brew Crew? Nobody knows, but having both of the top ranked QBs for the week can't hurt.

Baltimorons (-2) vs. Dumbbums
I hope there is a watch party somewhere tonight, because these two have six combined players going on Thursday Night Football. After that they have a player in every other time slot too. It will be an excruciatingly slow loss for the 'Bums.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Marauders
How about another tie? This one sure could end up that way, with even projections across the board. This one will come down to the prime time games and the performance of their bye week fill in QBs.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Our favorite Rivalry Week matchup won't disappoint this year. The two teams in this twin billing are separated by only one game in the standings and their teams are equally affected by this week's schedules. We'll just have to wait and see if Bell and/or Mahomes are active on Sunday.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
It's our top ranked team against our top scoring team. And amazingly the half dozen teams on a bye aren't causing too many problems in this one. It's going to be a good matchup and nothing will be decided until prime time. It should be an exciting way to end Rivalry Week!

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 31, 2019

3FL Notes: S19: Week 9 Preview

The streak is over. After 13 straight wins the Bolts felt defeat for the first time since last November. It was the second longest winning streak in our history and the longest in the past 8 years.

Don't forget that they scheduled another London game early on Sunday. Yay, Wembley Stadium! Make sure your lineup is set.

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Phys. Ed. Phenoms - 119 points

Player MVPs:
Tevin Coleman (RB/SF/P) - 35 points
Aaron Jones (RB/GB/MI) - 33 points
Mike Evans (WR/TB/M) - 31 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 27/48 - 56.25%
Yahoo! Projections: 26/48 - 54.17%

Week 9 Information

Thursday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ Arizona Cardinals
Sunday Early: Houston Texans @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Baltimore Ravens
Monday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants
Bye Week: Bengals, Falcons, Rams, Saints

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds just handed the Lightning their first loss in an entire regular season worth of games. But don't crown them just yet - literally ANY OTHER TEAM would have beaten the Bolts last week. This game will be extremely close and run through all NFL game times. It's just a shame that the Stompers don't have Mahomes or Kamara available to tip the scales even more.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Drew's squad picked up an important victory last week and may earn a second W in a row against a top-tier opponent. That is if all of his Qs turn out to be active on Sunday. Meanwhile the Brew Crew will try to make do with all of their Falcons on a bye (while their head coach probably gets fired).

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Ok, hear me out. I realize that the CAPS are in last place in the league with only five games until the playoffs. But they are only one game out of a postseason spot and have scored the third highest point total this year. Take a quick look at their lineup and tell me that you'd bet against them to play in week 14.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Now that the streak is over it might be time for the Bolts to concentrate on the postseason. And do they really want to keep the #1 seed? The Marauders will put up a good fight, but this may end up as the first win in a new Lightning streak. RB vs. RB on Sunday night will be the highlight.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
SpiVi remains our top scoring team (by more than 20 points) and their average PPW might actually go up after this game. It will be a RB show, with their combined backfields projected to put up more than 60 combined points. The Corporation has multiple bye week fill-ins to fill and that might be just too much to overcome.

And the game of the week...

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Our annual household matchup is the perfect GOTW for this week. PEP has been in the league since 2015 and this is the fifth matchup between the spouses. Coach Greg has won the previous four. The Renegades have a chance to finally win one this week (unless they forget to take the injured Chase Edmonds out of their starting lineup before tonight's game).

Happy Halloween and good luck this week!

Thursday, October 24, 2019

3FL Notes: S19: Week 8 Preview

Last week was our lowest scoring one so far this season, but somehow more records were set anyway. And the Bolts just can't stop winning.

Week 7 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Renegades - 145 points (T-3rd all-time)

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/R) - 44 points (4th all-time)
Marvin Jones, Jr. (WR/Det/L) - 33 points
Chase Edmonds (RB/Ari/R) - 32 points

The Comm-nosticator: 24/42 - 57.14%
Yahoo! Projections: 21/42 - 50%

Week 8 Information

Thursday Night: Washington Redskins @ Minnesota Vikings
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Kansas City Chiefs
Monday Night: Miami Dolphins @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Bye Week: Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 8:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Predacons
With a win this week the Bolts will make it 14 in a row, tying our longest winning streak of all time. The Preds might have spoiled things if it was any other week. But with Lamar Jackson on a bye they'll have to just hit the waiver wire and cross their fingers.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Renegades
What. Was. That?? The Renegades went crazy last week, scoring a ton of points and watching their QB post the highest player total in almost four years. That's not likely to happen again this week. But you never know, right? Even if FitzCorp is favored by more than two touchdowns.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The QB matchup is a good one, but the best part of this battle is going to be the prime time ending. Can all of those Steelers push the 'Bumbs ahead? Or will the big projection advantage for the Brew Crew be true?

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
Both of these teams are 3-4 and right at the bottom edge of the playoff picture. But Coach Hoss' team has scored an average of 18 more points per week than PEP. They might not win by that many this week, but they definitely have a slight advantage in the matchups.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. the HAW
SpiVi remains our highest scoring team, averaging 104+ points per game. That's a TD per week more than our second highest scoring team. Those totals should continue this week against the hard luck HAW. Could anyone have guessed that they would be in 12th place with only a single win after the first two months of the season?

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Regardless of their records and places in the standings, this is going to be a great game. It's will all depend on which of the Qs turn into Os. Advantage goes to the Stompers since they actually have some players on the bench who can replace the starters on game day if necessary.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S19: Week 7 Preview

Half of last week's games ended with a Monday night comeback and the Bolts' streak continued. Can you believe we're officially at the halfway point of the season?

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 114 points

Player MVPs:
Stefon Diggs (WR/Min/M) - 35 points
Matt Ryan (QB/Atl/L) - 31 points
Kyler Murray (QB/Ari/SV) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 21/36 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 20/36 - 55.56%

Week 7 Information

Thursday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Denver Broncos
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: New England Patriots @ New York Jets
Bye Week: Browns, Buccaneers, Panthers, Steelers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Both of these teams need to pick up the pace if they want to end the year in the playoffs, and a good start would be with a win here. It's going to be a good matchup between the 10th and 11th place teams. It will all come down to if any of the 'Morons WRs actually play.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Don't look now but Coach Hoss' team has now outscored the league in two of the last three weeks. They won't do it again this week with their two best players on a bye, but they should at least pick up a W since the 'Bums have the same issue.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. the HAW
The Bolts' winning streak has reached twelve games, just two shy of our all-time record. So wouldn't it be crazy if our current last place team could put a stop to it? I'm officially picking the Lightning (because 12 in a row) but I'm just saying that this could be the upset special of the year.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
It's been an up and down year for both of these teams, but Patrick Mahomes can make up for a lot of other things. Coach Bev will need him to start out with a big game tonight since Saquon Barkley just might be back for the Corporation (after only three weeks high ankle sprain healing).

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
The matchups mostly favor the Brew Crew in this one. That's not to say that PEP can't snag a victory, but they'll need their RBs to outperform projections. As for the Brewers, they'd better hope to have a victory earned before Sunday night. I'm not sure that their TE is going to fuel a comeback.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
These two teams are both 4-2 and are first and second in scoring. We should see a great game here, but neither team should even come close to their 100+ points per week average. And the Preds have little chance of picking the correct two RBs.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S19: Week 6 Preview

The first F in the 3FL stands for family, and sometimes that is the most important part of our league. Our hearts go out to Coach Greg & Val at this difficult time, and we also celebrate with them as they welcomed a new baby girl to their family. It was all the emotions in one day.

Last week the league saw multiple records broken and a winning streak extended. Make sure you are paying attention this week – there are four teams on a bye and a 9:30am EDT game on Sunday.

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the HAW - 145 points (3rd all-time)

Player MVPs:
Deshaun Watson (QB/Hou/tH) - 42 points
Aaron Jones (RB/GB/MI) - 41 points
Christian McCaffrey (RB/Car/B) - 41 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 18/30 - 60%
Yahoo! Projections: 17/30 - 56.67%

The Comm-nosticator was 6/6 in week 5 predictions

Week 6 Information

Thursday Night: New York Giants @ New England Patriots
Sunday Morning: Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Los Angeles Chargers
Monday Night: Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers
Bye Week: Bears, Bills, Colts, Raiders

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The whole Steelers strategy didn't work out too well for the 'Bums this season, but maybe starting the QB who is playing against them will help? Sunday night has their two Ds against each other, then MNF will seal up a couple point comeback for Coach Bev.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
The Preds picked up another win and maintained their #2 scoring ranking, but suddenly they have four Qs and an O to deal with. The Phenoms literally don't have a second RB on their roster who has a game this week. It could be a toss up.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
ELEVEN in a row. The Bolts now stand alone with the second longest winning streak in our history. Can they make it one more? The 'Morons may be favored by 3 points but you'd be foolish to bet against Coach Thad for the past long time.

the HAW (-1) vs. Renegades
The CAPS finally won a game this year, and they did it by scoring our third highest weekly point total of all time. Whoa. The problem for the Renegades is that they're set to do it again, with five players projected to score in the double digits.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Speaking of high point totals, SpiVi quietly put up the fourth highest weekly point total of all time last week. And they are currently second in the league standings and first in scoring. It's a daunting task for the Brew Crew but thanks to the matchups they're going to make it close.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Marauders
These two are really evenly matched, which is saying something since a couple of injured stars are on the Corporation's bench. And one is in the starting lineup. There is a player from at least one of these teams on the field for each of the six game times, the drama will run all weekend.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S19: Week 5 Preview

After four weeks we still have one undefeated and one winless team. And half of the league is sitting at 2-2. Some of those things will change this week!

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 115 points

Player MVPs:
Nick Chubb (RB/Cle/M) - 35 points
Jameis Winston (QB/TB/MI) - 29 points
Chris Godwin (WR/TB/SV) - 29 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 12/24 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 12/24 - 50%

Week 5 Information

Thursday Night: Los Angeles Rams @ Seattle Seahawks
Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Kansas City Chiefs
Monday Night: Cleveland Browns @ San Francisco 49ers
Bye Week: Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
These two have 8 (EIGHT!) championships between them, but so far this season they only have one combined win. The CAPS are riding a 5 game losing streak but it's looking like they can put a stop to that here. So long as they have a productive game tonight.

Lightning (-1) vs. Dumbbums
Speaking of streaks, the Bolts have won their last 10 in a row, tying the second longest winning streak in our history. Can they extend the streak and maintain their position at the top of the league? Or will the 'Bums outperform the projections?

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The Preds have already put up more than 400 points this season and they're currently our highest scoring team. This fact has not translated to wins, though, as they're sitting at .500. They have a good chance at another win against the injured Corporation, but picking RBs will be tricky.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Both of these teams are 2-2 and only 10 points separate their season point totals. You'd think this would be an even matchup, but the Stompers are favored by a bunch. And maybe even more if they take a quick look at who is starting.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Renegades
Coach Val's team has scored in the 40's for the last two weeks in a row. Can they top the half-century mark this week against the Brew Crew? All the matchups seem to favor the Beermen. Ok, all except the TE. But come on.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
SpiVi took their first loss last week but they are still in good shape atop the South division. The Phenoms have lost their last two but have a shot at a win here. The RBs are going to tell the story but Baker Mayfield will write the last chapter on MNF.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 26, 2019

3FL Notes: S19: Week 4 Preview

Half of our teams scored at least 100 points last week and the league put up the second highest weekly point total in our history. What comes next?

Remember that the byes are starting this week. Make sure your lineup is ready!

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 132 points (5th all-time)

Player MVPs:
Mike Evans (WR/TB/M) - 37 points
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea/YB) - 37 points
Mark Ingram II (RB/Bal/L) - 31 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 9/18 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 9/18 - 50%

Week 4 Information
Thursday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Green Bay Packers
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ New Orleans Saints
Monday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Bye Week: San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
SpiVi is currently undefeated and has averaged more than 100 points per week after our first three games. The Bums aren't doing as well. An over reliance on Steelers players hasn't helped and they've averaged only slightly above 56 points per week. This one could get ugly.

Lightning (-2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
The Bolts are also off to a sizzling start. Our defending champs are on a nine game winning streak, are our highest scoring team and hold the #1 spot in the standings. Can anyone beat them? I mean, I'm seriously asking. It's not looking good for the Phenoms to do it.

Marauders (-1) vs. Renegades
Coach Hoss earned his first win last week (mainly because nobody could cover Mike Evans). Can they double their W total? Or will the Renegades double theirs? Coach Val will have to start by choosing the right QB.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
What is going on in HAWville? The CAPS are our only winless team and are alone in last place at the moment. Some of that is bad luck and some of that is coaching decisions, but either way they have a chance to earn their first victory against the injured Corporation.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Mahomes has been as good as advertised for the Stompers, scoring at least 25 points in every game this year. He's projected to hit that total again this week. The only question is whether Coach Bev will remember to fill in the rest of the team with starting players.

And the game of the week...

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The Preds are currently third in scoring but seventh in the standings with only one win. They did get some good news this week with Melvin Gordon's return though. Meanwhile the 'Morons have a lot of Qs to deal with this week. And an O. And a NA.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S19: Week 3 Preview

We didn't get another tie, but week two had a little bit of everything else. Plus ALL OF THOSE INJURIES.

Get your team set for the last of our first round of intra-divisional games until the final three weeks of the season!

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 121 points

Player MVPs:
New England Patriots Defense (P) - 35 points
Patrick Mahomes (QB/KC/SS) - 30 points
Lamar Jackson (QB/Bal/P) - 29 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 6/12 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 7/12 - 58.33%

Week 3 Information

Thursday Night: Tennessee Titans @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday Night: Los Angeles Rams @ Cleveland Browns
Monday Night: Chicago Bears @ Washington Redskins
Bye Week: None until next week

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
The Phenoms are undefeated even though they are tenth in the league in scoring. With a with this week they can stack up a two game lead in the East, but who can bet against Mahomes?

Predacons (-1) vs. Marauders
After a subpar opening game the Preds crushed it last week, starting two of the top three scorers of the week and earning the biggest blowout (by 80 points). Now they get the 0-2 Marauders who have a lot of choices to make.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
SpiVi has had a good start to the season, jumping to the top of the standings and the scoring list. And they're projected to score 100+ points again this week. Plus the 'Morons have a bunch of Qs.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Both of these teams are 0-2 and winless in their respective divisions. They both look good on paper, though, and one of them has to get a win here. So that's a start.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The 'Bums have not been great this year. They are currently in last place, with the lowest points for and the highest points against. At least they're sure to break 100 points this week (for the season).

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Don't look now, but our defending champs haven't lost since week 10 of last season. Another W this week will put them on the records page with nine straight. FitzCorp definitely has the talent to stop this from happening, but a bunch of Qs and the European time zones might make that difficult.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S19: Week 2 Preview

Wow! Week one had a little of everything in both the 3FL and NFL, from blowouts to Monday night comebacks to a tie in each league. What will week two include?

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Stiletto Stompers - 107 points

Player MVPs:
Christian McCaffrey (RB/Car/B) - 32 points
Deshaun Watson (QB/Hou/tH) - 31 points
Derrick Henry (RB/Ten/L) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 3/6 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 3/6 - 50%

Week 2 Information

Thursday Night: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Carolina Panthers
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons
Monday Night: Cleveland Browns @ New York Jets
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
SpiVi hit the century mark last week and there are no signs of them slowing down. It will be difficult for Coach Val's team to keep up here, with Hill obviously out and two other starters questionable to play.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Neither of these teams started the season the way they wanted, but it would be even worse to lose again this week and go down two games in the West. It's looking like things will be left to a lone WR for the 'Bums on Sunday night.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The Stompers squashed the competition last week, outscoring the league and earning the top spot for now. But the one team that might be able to keep up with Mahomes & company this week is the Bolts.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Could this one be another tie for the 'Morons? It's going to be close and all eyes will be on a few Eagles in prime time. And then Chubb on MNF.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Speaking of ties, it's a little early to have one already, right? FitzCorp will try to avoid another but will have to choose the right QB early (since they play against each other tonight). The Brew Crew doesn't have that problem.

And the game of the week...

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
PEP got more points out of their K and Defense than most of their position players last week. That probably won't happen again. But will their Cleveland hookup outshine the CAPS' hookup from Houston?

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 05, 2019

3FL Notes: S19: Week 1 Preview

Can the Lightning repeat as SuperBowl champions? Or will the Predacons or Stompers finally get their name etched on the trophy? Will your top players even be active for week one? Only the 3FL season will have these answers.

It all starts tonight. Get your team ready to go!

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears
Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ New England Patriots
Monday Night Early: Houston Texans @ New Orleans Saints
Monday Night Late: Denver Broncos @ Oakland Raiders
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The Steelers playing against the Patriots this week is kinda the worst possible scenario for the 'Bums, since nearly half of their starters are from the Steel City. And the Phenoms from NE might ruin this fantasy game for Coach Coaldog too.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Other than the fact that I've never heard of the starting TE for the Marauders, this game seems like it will be a close one. It may all come down to which one(s) of the combined 4 Q WRs make it onto the field this week.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
This one could be a tie but it really depends on what Antonio Brown's suspension ends up being. The first quarter? The first game? The 'Moron's season?? FitzCorp has no players from Philly this year but they'll have to watch Coach Drew's Eagles in week one.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Lightning
The Brew Crew has higher projections for just about every position this week. Only the TE estimate leans toward the Bolts. That's not a great way to start their title defense.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Renegades
These two look pretty even across the board, and only the RB situation gives the Preds a slight edge. But with two players in the super late MNF game it's possible the neither will know the result until Tuesday morning.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. the HAW
Two young and dynamic QBs lead these two teams into the season with big expectations. The early MNF game is the one to watch here to see if Kamara runs wild or the CAPS Texans hookup earns them the victory. It should be a good one.

Good luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 19!

3FL Notes: 2019 Draft Analysis

Ten of our twelve teams were represented during the online draft on Thursday night. Here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. Misfits, Inc.: Saquon Barkley was the obvious #1 choice no matter who was behind the controls for the first pick. And if you let your team autodraft you just might end up with the Best Draft™award. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

2. Stiletto Stompers: Having Alvin Kamara and Patrick Mahomes is a good start, but picking the right WR from this corps each week is going to be difficult. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: C+)

3. Baltimorons: There is no Worst Draft™ award, but if there was Yahoo! would have given it to Coach Drew this year. I don't think things are that bad. McCaffrey, Brown and Goff? Come on. Grade: C (Yahoo! Grade: D)

4. Dumbbums: Last year's runner up could not stop picking Steelers. Not the worst idea, but it's almost to the level where they need a name change. Grade: C (Yahoo! Grade: C)

5. Predacons: After years of terrible draft grades, the Preds finally ended up at the top of the list. Will it change their postseason luck? That might depend on how the RB2 spot works itself out. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: A-)

6. Marauders: Coach Hoss' team is, like, fine. Absolutely nothing stands out here. But that's not a bad thing. Grade: C (Yahoo! Grade: C)

7. the HAW: Things went a little different than usual for the CAPS this draft. A WR first? A K in the ninth round?? Two TEs??? Maybe they're just mixing it up. Grade: C (Yahoo! Grade: C)

8. Yuengling Brewers: The Brew Crew was present at the draft again, this time while at the beach! And the team looks pretty good. With sleepers and everything. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B)

9. Lightning: Our defending champion didn't pick a RB until the third round and it shows. But everything else looks ok. As long as nobody gets hurt. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

10. Spiked Vipers: Autodraft took a chance on 'Zeke in round one and SpiVi needs to hope that he actually makes it onto the field. The rookie starting QB is pretty bold too. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B)

11. Renegades: From the worst draft grade last year to a tie for the best this year? This team does look pretty tough, and it (of course) includes Aaron Rodgers. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: A-)

12. Phys. Ed. Phenoms: The WRs are top notch and a couple of these RBs are bound to work out (even if it takes ten weeks). The biggest question is if Baker Mayfield lives up to the hype. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B-)

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions soon. Stay tuned.
