SuperBowl XX Champion!

Congratulations to Coach Nick on winning his second 3FL championship!

The Spiked Vipers had an incredible week to cap their amazing year. In the SuperBowl they set new records for most points by a player in one week, most points during the three weeks of a playoff run and most team points in a game (by 40 points!). In fact, SpiVi scored more points this week than the combined (both teams) point totals in 17 of our 19 previous SuperBowls.

Stay tuned later in the week for final stats and the 2020 season wrap-up.

Happy holidays and thanks to everyone for a fun season and 20 great years!!

3FL Notes: S20: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

It was another high flying playoff week in the 3FL! Our semifinals jumped ahead of last week's total and became the new second highest scoring postseason week of all time. Five of our eight teams ended up with more than 100 points.

There are games across four straight days this SuperBowl week, starting with the Vikings/Saints matchup on Christmas afternoon (Friday) and stretching all the way until Monday night. There are six NFL games outside of the usual Sunday afternoon time slots. Make sure your team is ready!

Week 15 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the HAW - 120 points

Player MVPs:
Jalen Hurts (QB/Phi/P) - 36 points
Josh Allen (QB/Buf/MI) - 34 points
Kyler Murray (QB/Ari/tH) - 30 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

Yahoo! Projections: 4/8 - 50%

Week 16 Information
Christmas Afternoon: Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints
Saturday Early: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Detroit Lions
Saturday Late: San Francisco 49ers @ Arizona Cardinals
Saturday Night: Miami Dolphins @ Las Vegas Raiders
Sunday Night: Tennessee Titans @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night: Buffalo Bills @ New England Patriots

It's SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #4 Dumbbums
As the Steelers fate has gone recently, so too has that of the 'Bums. They scored only 43 points last week and had to watch as their players from Pittsburgh sat out, got injured or threw the ball to nobody in particular. It might not be any better for them this week, as FitzCorp will lean on starts Derrick Henry and Josh Allen to not end up in the last place of the playoffs.

For 5th Place:
#6 the HAW vs. #8 Renegades
Both of these teams rebounded in week 15 and scored above the century mark. I mean, they were our league's second and third place scorers for the entire regular season, so that makes sense. It's just a week too late. But it does set up a great matchup to win the consolation bracket. Kyler Murray might be the difference as half of the players in this game will take the field before Sunday.

For 3rd Place:
#5 Marauders vs. #7 Phys. Ed. Phenoms
The Phenoms were the story of the second half of the season, rising from last place into the 7th seed and carrying that momentum all the way into the semifinals, where they scored 100+ points. But now they end up in a battle for the bronze digital trophy against Coach Hoss, who watched his team take the 5th seed but have to roll with six Qs on the roster. And unfortunately they'll add a D for this week. Ouch.

3FL SuperBowl XX
#1 Spiked Vipers vs. #3 Predacons
It was pretty much a given that SpiVi would end up in the SuperBowl this year. They set the record for most points ever scored in a regular season, recorded double digit wins and advanced to the postseason as the top seed. Since then they have scored the second most points in a playoff week and are on track to score the most points in a playoff run in our history. The Predacons took their division and qualified early, but only since week 13 have they been a true contender. In fact, these two teams have scored more points in the last three weeks than any other teams in the league.

Can they keep it up for one more important game? Will the Vipers cruise to their second championship with yet another record setting performance? Or will the Predacons surprise everyone (and get a little help from the curse) to earn their first ever SuperBowl victory in their fifth appearance in the big game? SpiVi's last loss came against the Preds in week nine so Coach Sinkerbeam owns the tiebreaker.

It's looking like a great matchup, and it will be a marathon holiday weekend with at least one player scheduled in all seven NFL timeslots.

Good luck this week!

Merry Christmas and thanks to everyone for another great season!!

3FL Notes: S20: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

For the first time in our history all of the odd numbered seeds advanced to the semifinals. Seems appropriate for 2020. It ended up as our second highest scoring playoff week ever and three of the four winning teams scored more than 100 points.

All individual team pages (see links on the sidebar) and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2020 regular season. This year's additions to the records page are in bold. Through 1,578 regular season games we have scored a combined 210,101 points.

Fun fact: After 20 years of the 3FL, Coach Drew and Coach Nick have the exact same regular season W/L/T record (129/127/7), but Coach Drew has scored two (just 2!) more total points. That's a one point differential per decade. Crazy!

Don't forget, the four teams still in the championship bracket will have only one player add available this week. And there are two Saturday games in addition to Thursday, Sunday and Monday nights.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 133 points (2nd, playoffs all-time)

Player MVPs:
Derrick Henry (RB/Ten/MI) - 33 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB/SV) - 30 points
Jonathan Taylor (RB/Ind/SV) - 28 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

Yahoo! Projections: 1/4 - 25%

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: Los Angeles Chargers @ Las Vegas Raiders
Saturday Afternoon: Buffalo Bills @ Denver Broncos
Saturday Night: Carolina Panthers @ Green Bay Packers
Sunday Night: Cleveland Browns @ New York Giants
Monday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl XX, losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 Spiked Vipers vs. #5 Marauders
Another week, another record book addition for SpiVi. This time it's the second best playoff weekly score of all time. They've been putting up so many points that even the curse might be apprehensive to take them on. The Marauders have quietly found themselves in the semis, but this game would be a lot more competitive if they didn't have six players who are questionable for this weekend. The Vipers have only one Q. Look out (again), 3FL records.

#3 Predacons vs. #7 Phys. Ed. Phenoms
It wasn't looking great for PEP after a late RB scratch and a 20+ point deficit following the Sunday night Bills/Steelers game. But an amazing MNF comeback gave them an upset victory and a chance to face the Preds. Coach Sinkerbeam's team advanced with little drama, and this matchup means that one of our teams without their name on the trophy will get a shot at a championship next week. That team will be the one who makes the correct lineup decisions, starting with tonight's game.

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #6 the HAW
It's a shame that this game is in the consolation bracket because it's looking like our best matchup of the week. Things are even across the board, but Derrick Henry may be the key to victory for FitzCorp. Can he put up 30+ points again? And will the CAPS' WRs return to form after a tough quarterfinals game? There are players in the first five time slots but we'll have a winner decided by 7:30pm on Sunday.

#4 Dumbbums vs. #8 Renegades
These two were our lowest scoring teams from last week, so it's fitting that they meet here. The 'Bums had every player except one perform lower than their projections – and that one player is now on the COVID list for this week. The Renegades ended up almost twenty points under their projected total. Not that it really mattered as they could have scored 65 more points and not won against the record setting Vipers. Still, this sets up to be an exciting game and it will all come down to the Steelers on MNF.

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl awaits!

Thursday, December 10, 2020

3FL Notes: S20: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

Our regular season finale week locked in our final two postseason spots and gave us a few additions to the 3FL Records page. It's already shaping up to be an exciting run to SuperBowl XX!

Remember that ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 1pm THIS SUNDAY, December 13th. Under our playoff rules you will be allowed to make 1 add/drop per week once the postseason starts, but only teams still in the winners bracket will be eligible to make a move (with waivers set in reverse order of seeding).

Three wins in a row wins it all!!

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 130 points

Player MVPs:
Darren Waller (TE/LV/P) - 32 points
Josh Allen (QB/Buf/MI) - 30 points
Baker Mayfield (QB/Cle/SS) - 28 points

Regular Season Final Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 45/78 - 57.69%
Yahoo! Projections: 42/78 - 53.85%

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: New England Patriots @ Los Angeles Rams
Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Buffalo Bills
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Cleveland Browns

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Spiked Vipers vs. #8 Renegades
SpiVi finished our twentieth regular season with the top seed while setting the record for most points scored in a season in the history of the league. Not too bad. Now they get to start their journey to a championship against the tough luck (and 4-8-1) Renegades. It should be an easy first step, but we all know about the curse...

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #7 Phys. Ed. Phenoms
FitzCorp fell out of the top spot after a week 13 loss with an incomplete starting lineup. Was it playoff prep or curse avoidance or forgetting to double check? We may never know. But they ended up earning a game against the suddenly hot Phenoms, who have climbed up from the basement to the seventh seed. This might be our best matchup of the week and it's going to come down to MNF for a PEP comeback.

#3 Predacons vs. #6 the HAW
They beat the #1 and #2 teams in back to back games and just finished the year by outscoring the league and being on the right side of the Biggest Blowout of the Week™. But have the Preds peaked too soon to have a shot at their first title? They get the four time champion CAPS in the quarterfinals, and in addition to having the highest projected total coach HAW might just get Christian McCaffrey back from IR. So...maybe next year?

#4 Dumbbums vs. #5 Marauders
These two teams from the West division are separated by one win and only seven total points after our regular season. And this game might be just as close. The matchups are even across the rosters and it's going to come down to coaching decisions and a three player comeback attempt by the 'Bums in the prime time games.

Good luck in the playoffs! The trophy awaits!!

3FL Notes: S20: Week 13 Preview

Games were rescheduled, new all-time records were set and another playoff ticket was punched. And we have five teams still fighting for two postseason spots.

Here's to an exciting week to wrap up the regular season!!

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Phys. Ed. Phenoms - 153 points (New 3FL record)

Player MVPs:
Tyreek Hill (WR/KC/PEP) - 44 points (T-4th all-time)
Derrick Henry (RB/Ten/MI) - 35 points
Deshaun Watson (QB/Hou/PEP) - 34 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 42/72 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 37/72 - 51.39%

Week 13 Information

Sunday Night: Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs
Monday Early: Washington Football Team @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: Buffalo Bills @ San Francisco 49ers
Tuesday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Baltimore Ravens
Bye Week: Buccaneers, Panthers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This is one of two matchups this week without playoff implications. Both of these teams have already qualified, so there won't be too much drama. But it will let us know if FitzCorp will defend the title from the top spot or not. Can they break the curse? Do they even want to try?

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. the HAW
There is also no playoff drama to be had here either, as both teams already punched their postseason tickets weeks ago. The excitement will instead come from watching SpiVi's point total. If they score 78 or more this week they'll set the league record for team points in a season. It's going to be a close game too, with players in every game through MNF.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Lightning
They may be in 11th place, but the Bolts still have shot at playing next week. They need a win here and some help, though. The Preds have been trending downward and have scored a lower point total every week for the past five games. Maybe Coach Thad's team can pull out two surprises in a row?

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
This might be our best matchup of the week. Things look even across the board (as long as Coach Coaldog does a lineup check before Monday afternoon) and it's going to stretch all the way until Tuesday night. The Renegades are for sure in the playoffs with a win, but they might be in with a loss too.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Week five seems so far in the past. After that set of games the Brew Crew was celebrating their fourth straight win and was sitting in second place. Since then they have lost seven in a row and have fallen out of the top eight. They need a win here for a chance at the postseason. Luckily they face off against the only team in the league that's already mathematically eliminated.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Speaking of the past, after week ten the Phenoms were in last place in the league after losing four in a row. Things weren't looking good. But here we are just two weeks later and PEP has jumped up above the playoff cut line and scored the highest weekly point total in our history. Now they can sure up their postseason spot with a win against the Stompers – who could themselves be in with a win.

Good luck this week!

Thursday, November 26, 2020

3FL Notes: S20: Week 12 Preview

A tie! It was our first one of the season and makes the playoff picture a little more complicated. There are still three postseason spots remaining with only two weeks to go, and every team is still in contention.

We get a pause from the bye weeks to celebrate Thanksgiving but make sure to keep an eye on the already postponed Ravens/Steelers game.

It should be a fun week full of drama and turkey!

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 106 points

Player MVPs:
Deshaun Watson (QB/Hou/PEP) - 27 points
Adam Thielen (WR/Min/D) - 24 points
Jared Goff (QB/LAR/MI) - 21 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 38/66 - 57.58%
Yahoo! Projections: 33/66 - 50%

Week 12 Information

Thanksgiving Early: Houston Texans @ Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving Late: Washington Football Team @ Dallas Cowboys
Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ Philadelphia Eagles

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
In the past three weeks the Preds beat the top two teams in the league and lost to the last place team. Now they face a Stompers team that is desperate for a win to keep a glimmer of playoff hope and be able to play in a meaningful game next week. It's going to come down to the stars performing to their expectations.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Dumbbums
There's very little drama here, unless you're watching to see if SpiVi can move one step closer to breaking the season scoring record. I mean, it's also a battle between our second and third place teams but they're mostly playing to shake out their final postseason seeding.

the HAW (-1) vs. Lightning
A tie put a pause on the CAPS' winning streak but they'll likely earn another W this week. The crazy thing is that the Bolts aren't mathematically eliminated from playoffs yet despite their luck/effort/attention this season.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Marauders
It is not safe to be a QB for the Renegades. They've had some really bad luck in that position this year, but a lot can be made up by having Dalvin Cook and DeAndre Hopkins on your team. The Marauders will hope from some good injury news this week, but both of these two could use a win to solidify their postseason resume.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
FitzCorp is still in our top spot and they control their own destiny as far as the #1 seed (and the curse) are concerned. Meanwhile, the Brew Crew has lost their last six straight and is clinging onto the final playoff spot with only two weeks to go in the regular season. Patrick Mahomes will keep this one interesting but everyone will be watching MNF to see how it turns out.

And the game of the week...

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The winner of this one still has a chance at the postseason. The loser is probably out of the running. It's looking like a barnburner in the making and it might come down to coaching personnel decisions. They'll both need a big start during today's early game but things won't be settled until Sunday night.

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week!

Thursday, November 19, 2020

3FL Notes: S20: Week 11 Preview

It was an exciting (but low scoring) Rivalry Week and now half of our playoff spots are claimed.

We're back to divisional games with only three weeks remaining. Here we go!

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 107 points

Player MVPs:
Tom Brady (QB/TB/M) - 30 points
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit/D) - 30 points
Alvin Kamara (RB/NO/SV) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 35/60 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 30/60 - 50%

Week 11 Information

Thursday Night: Arizona Cardinals @ Seattle Seahawks
Sunday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Las Vegas Raiders
Monday Night: Los Angeles Rams @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bye Week: 49ers, Bears, Bills, Giants

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 11:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The winning streak is over so now FitzCorp can concentrate on postseason prep and the number one seed (if they think that's a good idea). The 'Morons have to bring the fight to stay within reach of the top eight, but we won't know much of anything until the Corporation finishes up with three players on MNF.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The 'Bums locked up a playoff spot with a win last week and now they face the Marauders in a key West Division matchup. There are games scheduled in every time slot but the 'Bums need a good WR start tonight to kick things off. And they also need to pick up a D that isn't on a bye.

Spiked Vipers (-2) vs. Lightning
It was a down week for scoring in the 3FL, but somehow SpiVi beat projections and posted 100+ points again, outscoring the entire league for a fourth time this year. They're supposed to get to the century mark against this week and it could get ugly very quickly for the undermanned Bolts.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Our longest winning streak now belongs to the HAW as they earned an easy victory last week for their fifth in a row. Can you imagine this team with a healthy (for more than three games so far) Christian McCaffrey? Tonight's game is really important in this matchup but it won't be decided until two WRs face off on Monday night.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
The Preds have taken down both our #1 and #2 teams in consecutive weeks. But don't crown them just yet – those wins were mostly because of lucky points against numbers. This week should be another close one with a bench full of bye week players (who are injured at the same time). But that might be better than the NA playing for the Phenoms right now.

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
These teams are so evenly matched that the score is projected to be a tie. Patrick Mahomes vs. Lamar Jackson is the obvious headline, but even more exciting is that more than half of their players are scheduled for a game that's outside the normal 1pm EST on Sunday window. It should be a good one!

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 12, 2020

3FL Notes: S20: Week 10 Preview

Misfits, Inc. scored the high total last week, pushing their winning streak to seven games and claiming our first playoff spot and a shot at defending the title. Will any other teams join them after our Rivalry Week?

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 123 points

Player MVPs:
Kyler Murray (QB/Ari/tH) - 37 points
Dalvin Cook (RB/Min/R) - 36 points
Josh Allen (QB/Buf/MI) - 33 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 32/54 - 59.26%
Yahoo! Projections: 27/54 - 50%

Week 10 Information

Thursday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans
Sunday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ New England Patriots
Monday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears
Bye Week: Chiefs, Cowboys, Falcons, Jets

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for Rivalry Week:

the HAW (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
This is usually one of our most fun rivalries, but not this year. The Brew Crew has a bench full of bye week stars and they still don't have a full starting roster. It's an unnecessary gift for the CAPS, who have won four straight and are up to fifth in the league. Now if only they could get the #1 pick back for more than a single week at a time.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The 'Bums have taken over the lead in our most competitive division and are looking for another win to keep that spot. The Steelers game is going to be important for Coach Coaldog, but the 'Morons need to start with a big game tonight to have a chance to outperform their low projections.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
A down week gave SpiVi another L but they're still on pace to break the season scoring record (now by only 60+ points). I still can't understand how they've put up so many points but also have three losses. It looks like they'll be able to get another win here, though, as the Phenoms are hit hard by the byes.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Predacons
We still have a month to go in the regular season and FitzCorp has already punched their ticket to the postseason. Can they keep the trophy? Seven straight wins says yes. There's a good chance it could become eight straight this week, as the Preds might not have enough healthy RBs to fill their starting spots.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Despite starting a TE on the IR, the 'Bolts squeaked to a one point victory in the final minutes of MNF last week. They get a lucky draw this week as Coach Hoss has some of his best players on a bye. The matchup ends up being really close but I'm leaning toward the upset.

And the game of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Our twin billing looks like a great matchup to finish Rivalry Week. Though not even across positions, the total scores point toward a tie (as long as both remember to hit the waiver wire before Sunday). Prime time is huge here, as Lamar Jackson highlights the Stompers' Sunday night lineup and Dalvin Cook is set to finalize the Renegades comeback on MNF.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 05, 2020

3FL Notes: S20: Week 9 Preview

Our lowest scoring week since last November spread out the standings a bit. Now the four teams below the playoff cut line are all two games back of a postseason spot.

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 115 points

Player MVPs:
Patrick Mahomes (QB/KC/YB) - 38 points
DK Metcalf (WR/Sea/SS) - 28 points
Davante Adams (WR/GB/P) - 23 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 29/48 - 60.42%
Yahoo! Projections: 26/48 - 54.17%

Week 9 Information

Thursday Night: Green Bay Packers @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Monday Night: New England Patriots @ New York Jets
Bye Week: Bengals, Browns, Eagles, Rams

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
SpiVi outscored everyone again last week, keeping them on track to shatter the season points record. They're actually projected for our high total again. Imagine that. The Preds will put up a fight (starting with Davante Adams tonight), but it probably won't be enough.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
It's tough when your number one pick has scored only a single point through the first eight weeks of the season. But that's exactly what happened with Michael Thomas for the 'Morons. There's a chance that he's finally back for this one against Coach Hoss, and maybe that's the start of a season turnaround. Or maybe not.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Brew Crew is headed in the wrong direction. They've lost their last three and have dropped from the second spot all the way down to eighth in that time. They're still clinging to a playoff spot but they have to find a way to give Mahomes some support. We'll have to wait through the prime time games for the final result.

Stiletto Stompers (-1) vs. Lightning
The Bolts have been sleepwalking through the season so far and their record shows it. Although the Stompers and Lamar Jackson are somehow in the same boat. Not that they need the help, but starting a TE on the IR is not a great idea. Did you guess which team I was talking about, though?

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
This is a matchup that currently features three RBs on IR, but one of those might flip to be the long awaited return of overall #1 pick Christian McCaffrey for the CAPS. QB performances will also be key as the score will remain tight until things are finally figured out on MNF.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Last week Dalvin Cook scored 46 points while sitting on the Renegades' bench. He's in the lineup this week, but will that be enough to take down FitzCorp and halt their winning streak at six games? It's a great matchup but the WR differential might be too big for an upset.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 29, 2020

3FL Notes: S20: Week 8 Preview

Our game of the week saw Misfits, Inc. beat the Spiked Vipers to take over the top spot in the league. Can they hold onto it for the second half of the season?

Week 7 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 114 points

Player MVPs:
Tyler Lockett (WR/Sea/D) - 38 points
Tom Brady (QB/TB/M) - 37 points
Kyler Murray (QB/Ari/tH) - 35 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 25/42 - 59.52%
Yahoo! Projections: 23/42 - 54.76%

Week 8 Information

Thursday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ Carolina Panthers
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles
Monday Night: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New York Giants
Bye Week: Cardinals, Jaguars, Texans, Washington Football Team

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 8:

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Yes, I know that the Stompers scored 36 total points last week, but some of their week seven issues have been rectified. Like the fact that Lamar Jackson actually has a game scheduled this week. Is anyone surprised that the 'Morons have already picked up Antonio Brown? They'll put up a fight here but it's going to be tough.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. the HAW
The CAPS have been trending upward in the past couple weeks but things are going to be tricky against the 'Bums. Their top players are either on a bye or in jeopardy of sitting out because of injury. Meanwhile Coach Coaldog's squad is projected to score big. They'll just need a good Steelers result.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Lightning
It's going to be a little difficult to pick a winner in this one with lots of starting roster decisions yet to be made. It really could go either way as injuries and byes are going to press down the scores for both teams. Tonight's game will be an important start to figuring out the week.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
SpiVi was the #1 team in the standings since week one. Their loss last week dropped them out of the top spot, and the Marauders will leapfrog them this week if they can pull out a victory. It's going to be a great game between these two closely matched teams, but it's going to come down to the QB decisions and MNF.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
Our defending champions are alone at the top of the league and have lost only once this season. They shouldn't sleep on the Phenoms though. They match up well this week and just might give the Corporation all they can handle, especially if Justin Herbert can continue his high flying ways.

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
These two teams have the same record and their rosters match up evenly too. Except at QB. Cam Newton scored -4 points for the Preds last week. Even if that doesn't happen again, it might not be possible for them to keep up with the Brew Crew and Patrick Mahomes against the lowly Jets.

Happy Halloween and good luck this week!

3FL Notes: S20: Week 7 Preview

Our lowest scoring week of the season gave us a few Prime Time comebacks and a lot of drama. Can you believe we're officially at the halfway point of this out of the ordinary season?

Make sure you keep track of the schedule this weekend. Some things have already changed, possibly in preparation for more changes.

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Phys. Ed. Phenoms - 103 points

Player MVPs:
Derrick Henry (RB/Ten/MI) - 38 points
Deshaun Watson (QB/Hou/PEP) - 32 points
Matt Ryan (QB/Atl/L) - 31 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 21/36 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 19/36 - 52.78%

Week 7 Information

Thursday Night: New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles
Sunday Night: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Las Vegas Raiders
Monday Night: Chicago Bears @ Los Angeles Rams
Bye Week: Colts, Dolphins, Ravens, Vikings

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Don't look now, but the 'Morons are on a two game winning streak after being winless in the first month of the season. Keeping that steak alive is going to be tough against the CAPS, especially depending on how all of the Qs end up.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The 'Bums scored our lowest weekly total of the season last week, putting up only 43 points on the wrong end of the Biggest Blowout. But that's unlikely to happen again. This one isn't as lopsided as it looks at the moment, because the Stompers will swap their starters who are no longer on last week's bye. Right??

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Lightning
So far this year the Brew Crew has averaged just under 23 points per week more than the Bolts. That's almost four fantasy touchdowns. But this game will be closer than you think. Byes and Qs will add to the drama, but it will all come down to a MNF comeback by our last place team.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
After starting the season with a couple of losses, Coach Hoss has just won his last four straight. That could easily stretch to five after this week as the Marauders RBs lead the way. A combined six players on a bye aren't helping anyone either.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Renegades
These teams have identical .500 records but are in opposite places in their divisional standings. That's unfortunate for the Renegades since they're the team that has scored 100+ more points so far. The Preds have not been good lately but they get a chance to right the ship with some lucky matchups. They'll just have to avoid a Prime Time comeback.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
1 vs. 2 in the standings (and in league scoring) will face off this week to see who will start the second half of the season on top. These teams are pretty even across the board and in the projections, but who would pick against SpiVi at this point? They're on pace to score the most points in a season in league history and are a good bet to top the century mark again.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S20: Week 6 Preview

The East swept the South last week and the Baltimorons picked up their first W of the season.

There is no Thursday game this week—it was part of the reshuffling of the schedule that happened on Sunday morning. We could be in for more of the same thing this week.

The most up to date fantasy protocols for how different NFL scenarios will affect our league are available here from Yahoo!, including waiver processing dates, COVID-IR status designations and the latest schedule changes. As that site says, 'this is and will likely be a fluid situation all season.'

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 104 points

Player MVPs:
Patrick Mahomes (QB/KC/YB) - 26 points
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea/SV) - 25 points
Deshaun Watson (QB/Hou/PEP) - 23 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 18/30 - 60%
Yahoo! Projections: 18/30 - 60%

The Comm-nosticator was 6/6 in week 5 predictions

Week 6 Information

Sunday Night: Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers
Monday Early: Kansas City Chiefs @ Buffalo Bills
Monday Night: Arizona Cardinals @ Dallas Cowboys
Bye Week: Chargers, Raiders, Saints, Seahawks

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
This one is really too close to call. These teams have matching 4-1 records and have scored almost exactly the same amount of points so far this season. It might come down to the 'Bums rooting for their favorite team. Or FitzCorp rooting against theirs.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Marauders
The Monday night games will decide the outcome of this one, with five combined players scheduled in those two matchups. But the biggest problem for Coach Hoss is his RB2 bye week replacement options. Oh, and also playing against Patrick Mahomes.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
SpiVi is continuing their high flying ways and despite having two starters on a bye they're still predicted to score in the 90's. The Stompers look like they'll have a harder time with their byes (and some Qs). Even Lamar Jackson won't be able to make up the difference.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Predacons
After a tough loss last week the Preds are finally looking healthy. They'll need everyone available to have a chance against the CAPS and they'll need to choose the correct RBs too. But it could all be for nothing if Kyler Murray hits his point projection on MNF.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Coach Val's team dropped down to fifth place after their loss to SpiVi, but they're still second in league scoring. The matchups give them the slight edge this week, but the 'Morons look to have filled in their bye week gaps and are now looking to extend their one game winning streak.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
Our best matchup of week 6 also has serious implications down the road. The loser here is going to have a really tough time getting into the postseason after starting 1-5. It's really anyone's game and will depend on some injury designations and lineup choices.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S20: Week 5 Preview

Both of our undefeated teams were defeated last week and now half of the league has a 3-1 record.

We haven't seen the last of postponements and rescheduling and surprise byes. Things are already shifting for this week so make sure you keep up with the changing nature of the schedule this season!

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 126 points

Player MVPs:
Joe Mixon (RB/Cin/P) - 36 points
Tom Brady (QB/TB/M) - 35 points
Dak Prescott (QB/Dal/R) - 35 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 12/24 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 14/24 - 58.33%

Week 5 Information

Thursday Night: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Chicago Bears
Sunday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Seattle Seahawks
Monday Night: Los Angeles Chargers @ New Orleans Saints
Bye Week: Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The 'Morons stand alone as our last team without a win. In fact they've lost their last six straight and have the lowest scoring total in the league. But the Preds probably won't be able to field a whole team again thanks to byes and injuries. Upset special of the week.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Lightning
After securing their first win the Bolts seems to be back in the mix. They match up well against the 'Bums this week, but the difference in RBs might prove to be a bit too much. Plus, Big Ben has a scheduled game (as of right now).

Marauders (-1/2) vs. the HAW
This is going to be a really close game although the individual position matchups are not really even. It's the total that will be interesting to watch. The CAPS need some players to step up because nobody on their bench is getting into a game.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Now this game has even matchups across the board. But can Josh Allen really keep up with Lamar Jackson? Will Lamar Jackson even play? That might be the more important question.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
The Brew Crew outscored everyone last week to give the high flying Vipers their first loss. Now they turn their attention to the Phenoms, who have run out of IR space. But it actually will be closer than you might think depending on how some of those Qs end up.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
SpiVi may have picked up their first loss last week but they scored more than 100 points again and have put up 491 already this year. That's 71 more than our next highest scoring team - the Renegades. Both teams look strong this week and have games scheduled from tonight until Monday night. It should be a good one!

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S20: Week 4 Preview

We all knew this season was going to be interesting. Make sure to adjust your lineup to take the postponement of the Steelers/Titans game into consideration.

As for the 3FL, we're down to two undefeated and two winless teams after three weeks. What comes next as we get into the cross division matchups?

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 133 points

Player MVPs:
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea/YB) - 40 points
Patrick Mahomes (QB/KC/YB) - 39 points
Josh Allen (QB/Bal/MI) - 32 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 10/18 - 55.56%
Yahoo! Projections: 12/18 - 66.67%

Week 4 Information
Thursday Night: Denver Broncos @ New York Jets
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ San Francisco 49ers
Monday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ Green Bay Packers
Bye Week: None until next week

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
It's already time for this household matchup! The Renegades come in higher in the standings and have scored almost 100 more points than PEP in just three weeks. But they have some injury issues at WR. Can their RBs cover that gap? Or will Mason Crosby kick the Phenoms to a comeback victory?

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
SpiVi is crushing it this season. They are 3-0 and have averaged 129 points per game. To put that in perspective, our highest scoring team of all time averaged just over 98 ppg. If there's one team with a chance to beat them, though, it's the Brew Crew with Patrick Mahomes. It's a shame that their six injured players won't make it a true test.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The 'Bums are on a roll, staying undefeated by earning the biggest blowout of the week and jumping up to second place. Meanwhile the Preds turned in a clunker last week - their top scoring players were the kicker and defense. The Steelers postponement will make this closer than it should be.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This one looks like it will be a good matchup. I mean, as long as they both actually start players with a scheduled NFL game. Injuries will also play a role. Can someone tell Coach Bev that Courtland Sutton is out for the year?

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. the HAW
Speaking of injuries, it looks like every one of our teams has at least one WR with a red letter beside his name. And the CAPS are still feeling the effects of trying to fill in for the #1 pick being on the IR. That gap is going to make it tough against the surging Corporation.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The good news is that one of these teams will finally get a win. The bad news is that the other will not, and starting 0-4 is not easy to come back from. The 'Morons WR Qs are concerning, but it will all come down to Matt Ryan's comeback attempt on MNF.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S20: Week 3 Preview

Week two saw our third highest weekly score of all time. Plus ALL OF THOSE INJURIES!

Get your team set for the last of our first round of intra-divisional games until the final three weeks of the season.

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the HAW - 135 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Jones (RB/GB/tH) - 40 points
Josh Allen (QB/Buf/MI) - 33 points
Dak Prescott (QB/Dal/R) - 32 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 7/12 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 9/12 - 75%

Week 3 Information

Thursday Night: Miami Dolphins @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ New Orleans Saints
Monday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Baltimore Ravens
Bye Week: None until week 5

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The Yahoo! draft analysis folks are looking like geniuses. The 'Morons have followed their predictions, going winless so far and scoring our lowest total after the first two weeks. They need to right the ship quickly but playing against Pat Mahomes on MNF might not be the best spot to do that.

Misfits, Inc (-1) vs. Lightning
The North could be our toughest division and the Bolts have not done themselves any favors so far. And injuries were added to the insults last week, putting them in an even worse spot. Barkley, Kittle, Chark and Shepard all in one week. Ouch.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
These teams are headed in opposite directions, with the Preds winning their last three and the Marauders losing their last five straight. That trend is projected to continue but it won't be easy with  a combined six WRs with a red Q beside their names.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
It's still early, but PEP could really use a win to turn things around and keep up in the South. It looks like Joe Burrow will lead the team against Lamar Jackson and the Stompers. Perhaps a victory will have to wait until next week.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. the HAW
Our two top scoring teams face off in what should be a high flying affair. SpiVi has been flying high so far, earning the biggest blowout of the week in both weeks this season. Can they do it again? Probably not, especially with that bench of injuries. But the CAPS have #1 pick injury worries of their own.

And the game of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The winner of this matchup will take control of the West division and go 3-0 to start the year. It's projected to be even across the rosters and personnel decisions might be the difference. Stay tuned - things won't be decided until Monday night.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S20: Week 2 Preview

Football is back and we saw a little bit of everything in week one! Some personnel decisions were a little difficult thanks to a lack of preseason games, but we'll all continue learning as we go.

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 124 points

Player MVPs:
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea/SV) - 32 points
Josh Jacobs (RB/LV/SS) - 31 points
Davante Adams (WR/GB/P) - 27 points
Lamar Jackson (QB/Bal/SS) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 3/6 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 3/6 - 50%

Week 2 Information

Thursday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ Cleveland Browns
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Seattle Seahawks
Monday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Las Vegas Raiders
Bye Week: None until week 5

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
Someone needs to explain to me how Pat Mahomes and the Brew Crew scored the second lowest total in the league last week. FitzCorp can hope for a repeat of that but I'm pretty sure the script gets flipped and the Corporation will need to outperform expectations to keep up.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Baltimorons
So I warned you about SpiVi this season, and Yahoo! warned you about the 'Morons. The Vipers outscored everyone in week one and put up almost two-and-a-half times more points than Coach Drew's team. Perhaps this one will be closer than that, but it won't be close.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Neither of these teams had the start to the season that they wanted. But now things get more serious as the loser here will end up in last place in the North and 0-2 in the division. George Kittle's knee could hold the key.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Marauders
As of this writing all three starting WRs (and one bench WR) are questionable for the Marauders this week. That has to give the edge to Coach Val's team in this matchup. Even if one of her bench players is officially out for the season.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The 'Bums looked strong on opening weekend, scoring our second highest total despite having an injured James Conner put up a goose egg. Things will get tougher this week against PEP but it will probably come down to the other Steelers players' performances on Sunday afternoon.

And the game of the week...

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The winner of this game will take early control in the South division. It looks just about even across the rosters but Lamar Jackson can push any team to a victory. There's a player in every time slot this week so it's going to be a marathon.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S20: Week 1 Preview

Will we get through the whole NFL season? Can Misfits, Inc. repeat as SuperBowl champions? Will this year be even crazier than a usual one?? Only the 20th 3FL season will have these answers.

20 YEARS! Now that's already crazy.

It all starts tonight. Get your team ready to go!

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: Houston Texans @ Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Los Angeles Rams
Monday Night Early: Pittsburgh Steelers @ New York Giants
Monday Night Late: Tennessee Titans @ Denver Broncos
Bye Week: None until week 5

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Brew Crew looks to get off to a fast start tonight, with Mahomes and the KC Defense kicking off the new season. But will their Qs be able to play on Sunday? That could be the difference.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
These two West division teams are projected to end up in the bottom three of the standings according to the post-draft projections. I'm not so sure about that. Especially if Big Ben is all the way back and if Tom and the kids perform to their potential.

the HAW (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The teams with the top two drafts (according to Yahoo!) will face off to see which draft was actually better. But seriously, the CAPS look strong in our first weekend. It will be up to Lamar Jackson to try to carry the Stompers to victory.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Baltimorons
FitzCorp begins their title defense against Drew Brees and the 'Morons. The Corporation should cruise to their first victory of the year, but they'll have to root against some Eagles in the process.

Phys. Ed. Phenoms (-1/2) vs. Predacons
It's really a shame that these two have to face off in week one after picking right next to each other in the draft. It will be an even matchup throughout the week, starting tonight and ending with whichever Steelers WR puts up more points on MNF.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Lightning
This game kicks off tonight and ends up with a Saquon Barkley comeback attempt for the Bolts in the early MNF matchup. It's almost too close to call between these two long time rivals, with the defensive matchups giving SpiVi a slight edge.

Good luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 20!

3FL Notes: 2020 Draft Analysis

Eleven of our twelve teams were represented during the online draft on Thursday night. Here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. the HAW: With the first pick the CAPS selected the consensus #1 pick Christian McCaffrey. They also received the (unsponsored this season) Best Draft™ award, despite selecting two TEs and a guy on the COVID-19 list. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: A-)

2. Dumbbums: The second pick spot didn't go as well as the first. Yahoo! gave the 'Bums the Worst Draft (no trademark or sponsorship) grade. I don't actually think the team is that bad. But they will lean heavily on the Steelers Offense. Grade: C (Yahoo! Grade: D+)

3. Lightning: The Bolts were unable to attend the draft this year so we couldn't watch all the picks that made sense to a spreadsheet. The team that was autodrafted is just ok. First move would be to drop one of the extra TEs or DEFs to get some help at WR3. Grade: C (Yahoo! Grade: C)

4. Spiked Vipers: This team looks really good. SpiVi did their patented early defense selection, but the rest of the team ended up solid all around. This is my pick for the team to beat this year. Grade: A- (Yahoo! Grade: B)

5. Baltimorons: Yahoo! was not nice to the 'Morons with their draft assessment. And I usually think things are better than the automated insights, but this team is not great. Seems like things got jammed up early and they had to scramble to fill some important spots. Grade: D (Yahoo! Grade: D+)

6. Yuengling Brewers: Seems like the Brew Crew went with Eagles, Chiefs and former Nittany Lions this year. But that's all good if you have Patrick Mahomes. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: C)

7. Misfits, Inc.: The defending champions look a little different than usual. Their draft this year featured late QBs, an early DEF and K, and not a single Eagle. But the overall results seem to be the same. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

8. Marauders: It seems like Coach Hoss selected every rookie available in the draft. Four Marauders have never played an NFL game. On the other side of things, Tom Brady has played 285. But maybe all of those players will surprise everyone. Grade: C (Yahoo! Grade: C)

9. Stiletto Stompers: A solid draft strategy was implemented perfectly by the Stompers, and their team ended up strong and well rounded. Also, it's hard to bet against Lamar Jackson, no? Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B+)

10. Renegades: The top half of the Renegades draft looks good, and the bottom half is full of players who could turn out way better than their ADP would have you believe. You can't expect much more than that from the 10 spot, especially when drafting right next to your housemate for the second straight year. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B)

11. Phys. Ed. Phenoms: It's the usual turn of events for PEP. Good team. Solid starters. Good strategy with the next to last pick. They just need to hope that nobody gets hurt. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B-)

12. Predacons: It was pretty clear that the Preds were not used to being at the end of the draft order. The overall team ended up fine, but things look way different than usual. Most of the season will probably involve picking between two players with equal projections. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions soon. Stay tuned.
