SuperBowl VI Champion

Congratulations to the Baltimorons!

They defeated the Dumbbums by two points in the lowest scoring SuperBowl in 3FL history to win the coveted trophy. It is Coach Drew's second championship in the last three seasons.

Stay tuned later in the week for final stats and the 2006 season wrap-up.

Thanks to everyone for a great season!

3FL Notes: S6: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

OK, so maybe the semifinal games were a little more lopsided than anyone thought they would be. The average margin of victory was more than 33 points...

Half of the engraved trophy plate is decided. Now we just need a first name. Who will open the present of a championship on Christmas day? Will Coach Coaldog be getting or giving the lump of coal? Will Coach Drew's Monday Night QB be attempting a comeback or sealing a title victory? We'll have to watch and see.

Week 15 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 85 points

Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 29 points
Marvin Harrison (WR/Ind) - 22 points
LaDanian Tomlinson (RB/SD) - 21 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

Let's try to have all 12 teams vote on SuperBowl week. Vote early! The polls close at 7:55pm on Thursday evening.

Week 16 Information

Thursday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers
Saturday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Oakland Raiders
Monday Early: Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins

It's finally here! SuperBowl week in the 3FL...

For 7th Place:
#4 ray ray haw vs. #7 Lightning
Both of these teams looked promising during portions of the season, but now each is on a three game losing streak and fighting to not end up in eighth place. The P's and Q's (and IR) have not been helpful to either team. But all that having been said, it should be a good playoff matchup.

For 5th Place:
#3 Predacons vs. #8 Yuengling Brewers
The Preds went without a TE last week and still turned in their highest point total since week 9 - when they defeated the Brewers. This should be a fun one to watch, as the coaches of these two squads will be together for the holidays. Football on a 42" (or 57") HDTV can't be bad, no matter the outcome.

For 3rd Place:
#1 The Comfy Chair vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
The curse holds for a sixth consecutive year. The number one seeded Chair went down in flames last week, scoring the low total among playoff teams and Coach Skrabby's low total of the year. The Vipers saw their star QB post two points (as opposed to his record breaking performance in week 14). Will the Chair start a new winning streak to end the season? Or will the Vipers come away with their first ever top three finish?

3FL SuperBowl VI:
#2 Baltimorons vs. #5 Dumbbums
Here it is! And worth all of the hype, too. This great matchup will be a Christmas treat for all, especially the coach who comes away with the trophy and has his name permanently engraved in 3FL history. Coach Drew is seeking his second title in three years, while Coach Coaldog has yet to play for the coveted piece of hardware. The Steelers game will weigh heavily on the outcome. But so will the solo performances of LaDanian Tomlinson, Marvin Harrison and Tony Romo. Yahoo! is predicting a tie and so are many in the media. For the record - the first tiebreaker for the playoffs is total team TDs. We may need it.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

Thanks to all for another fun season!

Good luck this week!

3FL Notes: S6: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

None of the four first round games was even close; the average margin of victory (or defeat) was more than 27 points. That won't be the case this week, though. There are some great matchups scheduled and a spot in the 3FL SuperBowl is on the line!

Two things for this week:

1. Remember that all eight teams that qualified for the playoffs still have two games remaining. Teams that lost in Week 14 are still playing to decide places 5-8, so remember to keep a starting lineup for the remainder of the postseason.

2. There are games on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday this week. Remember to have your starting lineups set for players in those games before they start.

Also, I have updated the 3FL Records to include the 2006 season. Regular season career statistics are also up to date in each coach's profile.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 92 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 37 points*
Maurice Jones-Drew (RB/Jac) - 26 points
LaDanian Tomlinson (RB/SD) - 23 points

* breaks the record for most individual player points in a playoff week

Playoff Predictions Tally

League Voting: 2/4 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 3/4- 75%

Vote early! Voting is up and running for the playoffs and the polls close at 7:55pm on Thursday evening.

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks
Saturday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Atlanta Falcons
Sunday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ San Diego Chargers
Monday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ Indianapolis Colts

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl VI, Losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 The Comfy Chair vs. #5 Dumbbums
Even as the one seed, the Chair got through the first week of the playoffs unscathed. The 'Bums started big in the Thursday Night game and never gave up their lead. This matchup pits the top two RBs in the league against each other, and it's going to be a good one. Once again, Coach Coaldog's chances rest heavily on the Steelers game. But Coach Skrabby will have active players all four game days this week.

#2 Baltimorons vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
The Vipers lost to the 'Morons by a TD in week 11, but since then they have knocked off the #1, #4 and #3 teams in the league (in that order). Has the time come for Coach Googully to take down another giant? Or will Coach Drew get a shot at his second championship? It will all come down to Monday Night!

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, Losers play for 7th)

#3 Predacons vs. #7 Lighting
These two teams are 1-1 against each other this year, with the Preds taking the week 1 victory and the Lighting getting the W in a high scoring affair in week 12. A big part of this one will be the RBs (and which ones can live up to their projected point totals). But the game will come down to QB vs. QB on MNF. Peyton against Carson for a chance at 5th place.

#4 ray ray haw vs. #8 Yuengling Brewers
The rivalry continues - this time in the consolation round of the playoffs. There are some interesting matchups to watch for each of these teams and the smack talk should be just as entertaining as the game. The haw will be looking to make a comeback, as they will have four players remaining after 4pm on Sunday, when the Brew Crew's last starter is finished.

Good luck this week!

3FL Notes: S6: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

The playoffs are here! Congratulations to the Yuengling Brewers for officially clinching the final spot.

There are two things to remember for this week.

First, everyone who qualified for the playoffs will play in each of the next three weeks. Even if you lose in week 14, the final standings are still up for grabs in the consolation bracket, so make sure you have a lineup set from now through the end of the postseason.

Second, and more importantly, ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 12:55pm THIS SUNDAY, December 10th. You will not be able to add/drop after this time. Make sure your team is ready for the playoffs before then.

And don't forget that all remaining weeks start with a Thursday Night NFL game.

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 90 points

Player MVPs:
Reggie Bush (RB/NO) - 31 points
Chicago Bears Defense - 25 points
Jeff Garcia (QB/Phi) - 24 points

Regular Season Final Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 46/78 - 58.97%
League Voting: 43/78 - 55.13%
Yahoo! Projections: 42/78 - 53.85%

Vote early! Voting is up and running for the playoffs and the polls close at 7:55pm on Thursday evening.

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Chicago Bears @ St. Louis Rams

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 The Comfy Chair vs. #8 Yuengling Brewers
Did you know that in the history of the 3FL, the top seed in the playoffs has lost in the first round four out of five times? And did you also know that the top seed has never won a championship? Hence of the talk about the curse of the #1 seed. We’ll see if history repeats itself in this rematch of last year's SuperBowl. It should be a nailbiter, right down to the Monday Night game.

#2 Baltimorons vs. #7 Lightning
The Lightning have surprised a lot of people this year, and they are riding high after winning three of their last four games. The 'Morons have been in second place for a majority of the season and have won nine of their last ten. The outcome will be determined by the playcalling of the Bengals and Cowboys and whether they choose to run or throw for TDs. And whether the Bears can run or throw at all.

#3 Predacons vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
Coach Sinkerbeam's team has qualified for the playoffs in every 3FL season so far, and no other team can make that claim. But none of those opportunities has resulted in a championship. Two years ago the lower seeded Predacons knocked off the high flying Vipers in a stunning first round upset. Could this game be revenge? With some tough matchups for the Preds it's a strong possibility.

#4 ray ray haw vs. #5 Dumbbums
Both of these teams have been hard to label this year. Each has had ups and downs, good weeks and bad, and this matchup will be a good one. Almost half of the 'Bums starting lineup play for the Steelers, so that might be a problem. Oh, wait. They're playing Cleveland. Nevermind. Wouldn't it be terrible if the haw's former Pittsburgh Defense ends up as the foundation for a Dumbbums win? Of course, the opposite might happen instead.

Good luck this week. The coveted trophy is only three wins away!

NO Keeper

The ballot results are in...

By a two to one margin, we will NOT be keeping a player for next season. Each team will start from scratch in the live draft.

I wanted to get the word out as soon as the votes were tallied, since this information will affect the strategy of some teams for the playoffs. Remember that all rosters will lock at 12:55pm THIS SUNDAY. You will not be able to add/drop after the deadline.

3FL Notes: S6: Week 13 Preview

What a week! The league scored the second highest point total in our history (848), and we watched the Chair lose and the Renegades top the century mark. We also witnessed two MNF comebacks and saw just about all of the playoff spots claimed.

What will happen next?

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Renegades - 102 points

Player MVPs:
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 36 points
Joseph Addai (RB/Ind) - 33 points
Baltimore Ravens Defense - 29 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 44/72 - 61.11%
League Voting: 40/72 - 55.56%
Yahoo! Projections: 40/72 - 55.56%

Vote early! The polls close at 7:55pm on Thursday evening.

Week 13 Information

Thursday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Cincinnati Bengals
Sunday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night: Carolina Panthers @ Philadelphia Eagles

The Comm-nosticator's predictions for week 13:

Predacons (-1) vs. Rough Riders
The Riders still have a slim chance of getting to the playoffs this year - they have to win this game and the Brewers have to lose their game. Plus, they need to score 137 more points than the Brewers this week. That's kind of a lot to ask. Even just the beating the Predacons part.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
The Vipers turned out to be giant killers last week, taking down the Chair for the first time this year. The haw had to watch a MNF kicker slowly catch up with their team for a tie. The final result of this one might have to wait until Monday Night also.

Misfits (-1/2) vs. Renegades
What luck. The 'Fitz have scored 787 points to date, but they have lost five straight and are already eliminated from the post season. The Renegades aren't going to be in the playoffs either, so this game will be a future stars matchup - Cutler vs. Addai. That's all either of these two have at this point.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The Lightning are on a roll, but this matchup is going to be tough. The teams are even. Their records are even. And Roethlisberger is finally on the bench. I'm not sure what the outcome will be, but we'll know a lot more after tomorrow night's game.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The Brewers got Shaun Alexander back last week, and he was the difference. They now have a paved path to the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Marauders have run into some injuries and bad luck this year and will miss post season play for only their second time in league history. Ahhh, that Clinton Portis. Coach Hoss was doomed even before the season started.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Coach Skrabby lost for the first time in 15 straight games last week, while Coach Drew ran his own unbeaten streak to 9 games. With a win the 'Morons will take over the top spot in the league and will likely be the top scoring team for the season. Either way, the winner of this matchup will have to deal with the curse of #1.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S6: Week 12 Preview

With only two weeks to play, half of the playoff spots are still up for grabs. Who will feast this Thanksgiving week? And who will need antacids? There are a lot of great 3FL matchups to watch over the holiday weekend!

Remember that the trade deadline is this Friday. And make sure you set your players for the Thanksgiving Day games before those games start.

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 76 points

Player MVPs:
LaDanian Tomlinson (RB/SD) - 32 points
Chad Johnson (WR/Cin) - 27 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 26 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 43/66 - 65.15%
League Voting: 39/66 - 59.09%
Yahoo! Projections: 40/66 - 60.61%

Vote early! The polls close at 12:25pm on Thanksgiving afternoon.

Week 12 Information

Thanksgiving Early: Miami Dolphins @ Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving Late: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Dallas Cowboys
Thanksgiving Night: Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Indianapolis Colts
Monday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Seattle Seahawks

The Comm-nosticator's predictions for week 12:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Lightning
Coach Thadtotti could use a win to sure up his playoff spot, but the Predacons have some soft matchups this week. It will be fun to watch, though, since the Lightning's management team will be in town for the weekend's games.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Coach Hoss was perilously close to the team record for futility last week. His 11 points were second only to Coach Skrabby's 9 points in Season 3, Week 8. Meanwhile, the haw have flown under the radar this year and have already captured a playoff spot. How can I pick against them this week?

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Chair have tied a 3FL record with 11 wins this season. They have set the all-time winning streak record as well, getting a victory in 14 straight games (including last year's playoffs). The Vipers do have a shot, but it will be tough for them. Unless Coach Skrabby trades Larry Johnson for their backup kicker.

Misfits (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Misfits no longer have any wiggle room. They must win out and have some help from other teams or they will miss the playoffs for the first time since the External Consultant started consulting. With the loss of McNabb and Jordan for the season, things are going to be tough. But watching the Brew Crew add another Monday Night comeback against the 'Fitz would be excruciating.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The smack talk has already started between these two. This dim-witted matchup is going to be tight, and much of the outcome will be based on the Steelers' game. And whether LaDanian can continue carrying the rest of the 'Bums on his back.

And the game of the week...

Rough Riders (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Although there are really five games that could be the game of the week (yes, they're going to be that good), this twin billing is not to be missed. There are so many intertwined matchups that it really could end up in a tie. The Renegades have had a tough year, though, so the Riders have the edge. Maybe.

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week.

Thursday, November 16, 2006

3FL Notes: S6: Week 11 Preview

Now it's getting interesting. Six teams are fighting for three playoff spots with only three weeks to go.

And The Comfy Chair can't seem to stop winning.

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 89 points

Player MVPs:
LaDanian Tomlinson (RB/SD) - 31 points
Chad Johnson (WR/Cin) - 25 points
Carson Palmer (QB/Cin) - 24 points
Philip Rivers (QB/SD) - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 38/60 - 63.33%
League Voting: 36/60 - 60%
Yahoo! Projections: 36/60 - 60%

Note: The Lightning were 6/6 in week 10 voting

Week 11 Information

Sunday Night: San Diego Chargers @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night: New York Giants @ Jacksonville Jaguars

The Comm-nosticator's predictions for week 11:

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
Both of these teams are right in the thick of the playoff race. In fact, this one is going to be closer than you think. If the Riders can switch out --empty-- for an actual Defense, I'm turning this prediction around.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
I was wrong - apparently LaDanian Tomlinson can score thirty+ points every week. This high-flying matchup will be fun to watch. In fact, it might be the game of the week if anyone else in the league cared about the outcome.

Misfits (-1) vs. ray ray haw
If the playoffs started this week, the Misfits would be watching from afar and all the points they have scored would be for nothing. The bright side is that there are still three weeks left for the 'Fitz to claw back into the top eight. Ray ray haw would like nothing better than to put that climb on hold and secure a postseason spot for themselves.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Wouldn't it be a great story if the Marauders pull out an upset this week and stop the Chair's unprecidented winning streak? Even with Clinton Portis on IR and Brett Favre under center? It would be one bright spot in Coach Hoss' hard luck season, anyway.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Coach Thadtotti is looking to extend his own winning streak to two games. Meanwhile, the Renegades are actually getting better by standing still. If Dominic Rhodes and Torry Holt get hurt they may have a playoff caliber team. Unfortunately, with one more loss they'll be mathematically eliminated from getting there.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
It doesn't get much better than this. Everyone is predicting a tie, and that just might be the case, but the Vipers need a win more than the 'Morons do. We would all be talking about Coach Drew's impressive seven game winning streak if it wasn't for the perfect year of the Chair. Anyway, stay tuned for the Monday Night finale in this one.

Good luck this week.

Trade Deadline

Just a quick reminder - the trade deadline for our league is next Friday, November 24th (the day after Thanksgiving). All trades must be offered and accepted by then.

Not that we'll actually have a trade in the 3FL this year. I just wanted to remind everyone about the official deadline...

Thursday, November 09, 2006

3FL Notes: S6: Week 10 Preview

Last week saw our first tie of the season and our highest team point total so far this year. And The Comfy Chair extended their win streak to a league record 12 games. As in, "the history of the league" record. But will that streak come to an abrubt end this week?

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 107 points

Player MVPs:
LaDanian Tomlinson (RB/SD) - 27 points
Javon Walker (WR/Den) - 27 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 24 points
Damon Huard (QB/KC) - 20 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 35/54 - 64.81%
League Voting: 32/54 - 59.26%
Yahoo! Projections: 31/54 - 57.41%

Week 10 Information

Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ New York Giants
Monday Night: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Carolina Panthers
Bye weeks are finished for this season

The Comm-nosticator's predictions for week 10:

Predacons (-2) vs. Renegades
I know that the Yahoo! projections are not always right, but this week they are saying that the Preds should just about double the Renegades' score. That might not be too far off.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
Bye weeks are officially over for this year, so that is good news for the Riders - if a Defense actually finds its way into their starting lineup. This matchup will be interesting to watch, as all of the haw's players are finished after the 1:00 pm games. Then we'll watch most of Coach Bev's team attempt to mount a comeback.

Misfits (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The saving grace of this season will arrive this week if the Misfits can hand the Chair their first loss. But as everyone knows, a high point total doesn't necessarily mean a win for Coach Jules and the ExtC. And Coach Skrabby has been very, very lucky during parts of this record breaking streak.

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Marauders
The 'Morons scored the highest weekly team total of the year last week with Tony Romo at QB. Hey, whatever works. Meanwhile, the Marauders just finished up a come from behind Monday Night thriller just for a tie. With a loss this week, Coach Hoss will face a very difficult road to even make the playoffs.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The upset special of the week. The Vipers are looking sneaky good for week 10, while the 'Bums have some inflated projections and Santonio Holmes. Plus, LaDanian can't score 3 TDs and have 130 yards rushing every week, can he?

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Lightning
I don't know how this one could get any closer. It's going to be fun to watch. The edge goes to the fermented ones; their Defense gets to feast on Tennessee and they don't have a QB complaining about his surgically repaired knee. Plus, the underachieving Lightning have been killing my pick percentage in the past few weeks.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S6: Week 9 Preview

There only two ways to gain eligibility into the 3FL. One is being born into the family. The other was figured out recently by the External Consulant to the Misfits. Tim and Julie were engaged to be married (and share ownership of a 3FL team) this past weekend. Congratulations from all of us in the league office!

Plans are already in motion to have the wedding before we start 3FL 2K7. Coincidence? With the way things are playing out for the Misfits this season, I'm not sure...

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: The Comfy Chair - 87 points

Player MVPs:
Larry Johnson (RB/KC) - 32 points
LaDanian Tomlinson (RB/SD) - 29 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 26 points
Reggie Wayne (WR/Ind) - 26 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 31/48 - 64.58%
League Voting: 28/48 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 27/48 - 56.25%

Week 9 Information

Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ New England Patriots
Monday Night: Oakland Raiders @ Seattle Seahawks
Bye Week: Arizona, Carolina, NY Jets, Philadelphia

The Comm-nosticator's predictions for week 9:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
Coach Thadtotti's slick waiver wire pickup may be the difference in what will be a very close game. Plus, the Lightning have more favorable matchups. But can the haw handle watching their hopes for a win on Monday Night disappear again? At least it will be on the big tv.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
What's wrong with the Marauders? The usually strong team is having a sub-par year, and I just received word that they have fired their Offensive Coordinator. Coach Hoss will now be calling all of the plays. I'm not sure that will be enough against the surprising Vipers this week, but it can't hurt.

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Rough Riders
Amazingly enough, Coach Skrabby could officially qualify for the playoffs with a win this week. And more amazingly, he may actually qualify with a loss. Regardless of the outcome, the Riders have been courageous and strong this week. And I'm not even talking about Fantasy Football.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
This matchup will come down to the QB battle on Sunday Night, where Peyton Manning just might break his bad luck against the Pats. If the Ravens defense continues their ridiculous pace, however, this one could go either way.

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Renegades
The 'Bums have stepped up their game and have been scoring an average of 92 points per game for the last three weeks. Even with Roethlisberger at the helm. On the flip side, the Renegades have averaged 51 points per game over the same period. Ouch.

And the game of the week...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Misfits
With all of the excitement surrounding the Misfits organization this week, it may be easy to forget that the E-A-G-L-E-S are on a bye. And the Misfits are on the edge of the playoff picture. The 'Morons are only interested in continuing their winning streak and talking a little smack. It's going to be a close one.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S6: Week 8 Preview

After another high flying week (789 league points), we are still left with one undefeated team at the top and a bunch in the murky middle. Who will emerge into the playoff light?

Week 7 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 94 points

Player MVPs:
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 30 points
Hines Ward (WR/Pit) - 26 points
Alge Crumpler (TE/Atl) - 23 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 28/42 - 66.67%
League Voting: 24/42 - 57.14%
Yahoo! Projections: 24/42 - 57.14%

Week 8 Information

Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Carolina Panthers
Monday Night: New England Patriots @ Minnesota Vikings
Bye Week: Buffalo, Detroit, Miami, Washington

The Comm-nosticator's predictions for week 8:

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Rough Riders
Riding four straight victories and competent bye week player management, Coach Drew has surged into second place in the league. The Riders have been both good and bad this year, but it looks like they won't have quite enough this week against a tough opponent.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The upset special. Someone has to beat the Chair this year, right? It might as well be the Lightning, as they will have their best week of the season. Just watch Laurence Maroney complete the comeback on Monday Night. Or not...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds were undefeated until their bye week woes sent them to two straight losses. Their winning ways will resume, though. After this week. The haw's favorable matchups will continue the miserable mid-season for Coach Sinkerbeam.

Misfits (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
The only reason this one might become interesting is because of all of Misfits who are on the injury report. And the stunning breakout game of David Carr against the Titans. And the tough luck of the Misfits this year.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Last week, the Renegades would have pulled the upset that I predicted if they had put any of their bench players in as staters. This week, unfortunately, will be the same. Close but no second win.

And the game of the week...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The 'Bums have been the highest scoring team for the past two weeks in a row. The Marauders have scored more than 400 points this season but only have two wins. Something's gotta give this week, as the loser of this one will have an uphill battle to the playoffs...

Good luck this week.

And birthday wishes to Coach Haw and Coach Jules this weekend.

3FL Notes: S6: Week 7 Preview

We're rolling through the halfway point of the year already (remember that there are only 13 games in the regular season).

Last week the league had its highest scoring week of the season (786 points), and we saw the Dumbbums surprise, the Predacons fall and the Comfy Chair remain perfect. What excitement is in store for this week?

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 98 points

Player MVPs:
LaDanian Tomlinson (RB/SD) - 30 points
Torry Holt (WR/StL) - 25 points
Matt Hasselbeck (QB/Sea) - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 24/36 - 66.67%
League Voting: 21/36 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 23/36 - 63.89%

Week 7 Information

Sunday Night: No NFL Game (World Series)
Monday Night: NY Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
Bye Week: Baltimore, Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco,
St. Louis, Tennessee

The Comm-nosticator's predictions for week 7:

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Lightning
The Lightning have shown some spark as of late, but the Baltimorons are riding even higher after giving the Predacons their first loss of the year. Add that to some good QB and Defense matchups and you've got a winner. If he changes his starters in time.

Rough Riders (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Riders are sneaky good again this year, while the Vipers have been plagued with stellar scoring only from their bench. Depending on Coach Googully's choices, this one will be close, but the Riders appear to have a slight edge in the matchups. If she changes her starters in time.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
A winning streak for the 'Bums? This one will be a nailbiter, right down to the T.O./NYG Defense pairing on Monday Night. After last week's victory, Coach Coaldog proved that his team can run up the score. But can they do it again?

Misfits (-1) vs. Marauders
Coach Hoss' team also broke out last week (scoring 96 points), but they appear poised to come back to reality against the Misfits. How is the top scoring 3FL team 2-4 after the first six weeks of the season? I don't know. But I guarantee that they won't make too many more guarantees this season.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
The upset special of the week. With Ladell Betts (appropriately) back on the bench and a bunch of favorable matchups, the Renegades just might double their victory total this week. Mostly because of the haw's WR bye woes.

And the game of the week...

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Predacons
This one would be a much more exciting game if Rex Grossman hadn't scored -10 points and the Preds were still undefeated, too. Still, it's going to be the Manning Bowl, 3FL style. Going all the way back to week 13 last year, the Comfy ones have won nine straight games. And with Coach Sinkerbeam's best RBs on a bye, make it ten.

Good luck this week.

Go vote.

3FL Notes: S6: Week 6 Preview

Can you believe that we are already more than 1/3 of the way through the regular season? What will happen with the two remaining undefeated teams? And why are Defenses scoring so many points?

Just a general note - six NFL teams are on a bye this week and next, so many of our teams will have to start second and third stringers. It's going to be interesting...

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Rough Riders - 72 points

Player MVPs:
Donovan McNabb (QB/Phi) - 23 points
Jacksonville Jaguars Defense - 23 points
San Francisco 49ers Defense - 20 points
Carolina Panthers Defense - 18 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 20/30 - 66.66%
League Voting: 18/30 - 60%
Yahoo! Projections: 18/30 - 60%

Week 6 Information

Sunday Night: Oakland A's @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night: Chicago Bears @ St. Louis Cardinals
Bye Week: Cleveland, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Minnesota, New England

The Comm-nosticator's predictions for week 6:

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
We have somehow avoided the annual trash talking that usually leads up to this matchup. Maybe the Brew Crew is aware that bye weeks are going to make things difficult for them. Or maybe both teams are just stockpiling witty remarks for gametime.

Misfits (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
It's difficult to watch the top scoring team in the league start out with a 2-3 record. But that just shows you that anything is possible in the 3FL. Can the team with the least points in the league beat the one with the most points? Unlikely. But possible.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Predacons
It seems like the Preds lucky win streak will come to an end this week. Even though these two teams have scored exactly the same number of points to date (301), Coach Sinkerbeam has his top two WRs listed as Doubtful and Peyton Manning on a bye. Bye, bye undefeated.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
Even though Larry Fitz will miss this week because of injury, the Marauders have already filled his spot with his actual backup, so no real edge was lost. The Riders had the high score in the league last week, but that doesn't help them here. Coach Hoss' matchups are too soft.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Renegades
A ninth straight win will be comfy for the Chair this week, as Coach Skrabby once again fields a solid lineup. It also helps that half of the Renegades don't actually get to touch the football very much during their NFL games.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Wow, this one is going to be close. More like (-1/4) on the prediction line. Each team has a mix of tough and easy matchups, so it may only take one breakout performance to capture the win. And it may be time for Antonio Gates to live up to his keeper expectations.

Good luck this week.

Go vote.

3FL Notes: S6: Week 5 Preview

After just four weeks, every team already has at least one win. And we must be setting a record for waiver claims. The transactions board is lit up every Wednesday morning.

Also, the Tim-A's (managed by our own External Consultant to the Misfits) won the FMLB Championship. Congratulations! Will his winning ways carry over to the 3FL postseason?

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits - 94 points

Player MVPs:
Donovan McNabb (QB/Phi) - 25 points
Santana Moss (WR/Was) - 24 points
Atlanta Falcons Defense - 24 points
Byron Leftwich (QB/Jax) - 21 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 17/24 - 70.83%
League Voting: 15/24- 62.5%
Yahoo! Projections: 14/24 - 58.33%

Note: Both The Comfy Chair and Yahoo! were 6/6 with their week 4 predictions.

Week 5 Information

Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ San Diego Chargers
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Denver Broncos
Bye Week: Atlanta, Cincinnati, Houston, Seattle

The Comm-nosticator's predictions for week 5:

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Renegades
The Renegades have to do something fast to keep the season from slipping away. The problem, however, is that the Fantasy Hockey season has just started, so any External Consultant help is going to be hard to find. And the Baltimorons are looking pretty solid this week.

Misfits (-2) vs. Rough Riders
The Riders have been scoring fewer and fewer points each week since the beginning of the season. That's not going to cut it against the team with the highest point total in the league. Even if Westbrook remains really Questionable.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Lightning
It's a shame, because this would have been a good matchup if it wasn't for Carson Palmer's bye week. But as it is, some random QB will have to pretend to fill in for the Lightning. Plus, I'm not sure Coach Hoss can handle another Monday Night heartbreaker.

Predacons (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Preds are undefeated after four weeks? What is going on here? Their luck has to come to an end soon, right? Probably not this week. Peyton Manning is playing against the Titans.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
I think that this week may bring the first loss for the Chair after seven consecutive wins. But I've learned my lesson about making Coach Skrabby an underdog. Be sure to keep tabs on MNF anyway. It could make things interesting.

And the game of the week...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. ray ray haw
This one is too close to call, but I have to type something here. I'm giving the edge to "hoping the Steelers turn this thing around" and the fact that the appendix-less, helmet-less one has to throw a TD pass at some point.

Good luck this week.

Go vote.

3FL Notes: S6: Week 4 Preview

The parity in the league is apparent this season, as half of our teams have the same record. Also, each week has been higher scoring than the last. Will either trend continue?

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Teams:
ray ray haw & Yuengling Brewers - 74 points

Player MVPs:
Matt Hasselbeck (QB/Sea) - 28 points
Brian Westbrook (RB/Phi) - 25 points
Clinton Portis (RB/Was) - 19 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 12/18 - 66.67%
League Voting: 10/18 - 55.56%
Yahoo! Projections: 9/18 - 50%

Only 8 of our 12 teams voted again last week. It will only take you a few minutes.

Week 4 Information

Sunday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ Chicago Bears
Monday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Philadelphia Eagles
Bye Week: Denver, NY Giants, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay

The Comm-nosticator's predictions for week 4:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Assuming the 'Morons have a complete roster this week, they are getting a gift. The Brewers are a mess right now, with Shaun Alexander out and TO doing whatever it was he was doing. Baltimore's Defense could still keep this one interesting, though.

Misfits (-1) vs. Lightning
How does the team with the most points in the 3FL have a 1-2 record? Two straight high-scoring losses by one point, that's how. Maybe this week the 'Fitz will be on the winning end of a late night comeback. And if Westbrook doesn't play, maybe not.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This will be a close game, as both teams have interesting matchups to exploit. But it will come down to how the Qs end up for the weekend. On a side note, can someone please explain to me how Maurice Morris fell to the 5th team in waiver priority?

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Rough Riders
The Steelers are off this week, and the 'Bums are probably better because of it. Some key Riders are also on the bye. The big difference is that Coach Coaldog will fill his starting roster with players who actually have games.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
One of these two will reach the .500 mark this week, and it's going to be a battle. It really could go either way, as the players on each team have either been hot or cold. Michael Vick will be the difference, as he is ready to make up for last week's performance.

And the game of the week...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
This is going to be a good early season test for both teams. Expect a tight game with three things to watch - the haw's RB running against his own Defense, the battle of Philly TEs (with the edge going to the one you've heard of), and Philip Rivers (filling in for Eli Manning) running for his life all game long.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S6: Week 3 Preview

Week 2 showed us some more drama, with a Sunday night tiebreaker and a Monday night standstill. You just never know what's going to happen.

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: The Comfy Chair - 79 points

Player MVPs:
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 26 points
Baltimore Ravens Defense - 26 points
Eli Manning (QB/NYG) - 23 points
Donovan McNabb (QB/Phi) - 20 points

Predictions Tally

Yahoo! Projections: 6/12 - 50%

We had 8 of our 12 teams vote last week. It will only take you a few minutes. Exercise your right to vote on 3FL games!

Week 3 Information

Sunday Night: Denver Broncos @ New England Patriots
Monday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints
Bye Week: Dallas, Kansas City, Oakland, San Diego

The Comm-nosticator's predictions for week 3:

Rough Riders (-1/2) vs. Lightning
This one looks to be a good matchup, and having both starting TEs on a bye will add to the drama. Even though Coach Bev only starts 8 of 9 active players, the Riders RBs will pick up the slack, and the Lighting will be left waiting for a Sunday night comeback. And hoping that benching Carson Palmer does not lead to frustration.

Renegades (-1) vs. Marauders
Coach Hoss is hoping that week 3 doesn't bring loss 3 to the Marauders. But RB injury issues and the need to cover his Defense's bye week make that a difficult task. Plus, Michael Vick is capable of "pulling a Cooley" and securing a last minute victory during a Prime Time game for the Renegades once again.

Baltimorons (-1) vs. ray ray haw
Daunte Culpepper should break out against Tennessee this week, and he may be the difference in this one. They'll both be interested in the Steelers game, too; between these two teams I think that every important player in the Pittsburgh-Cincinnati matchup will be utilized. Except for Carson Palmer - he's on the Lightning's bench.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Always an interesting battle, Chair vs. 'Bums will not disappoint. But the two most prolific RBs in the NFL are both on a bye this week, one for each of these two teams. Instead we'll have to follow some different storylines. First, the debut of Coach Skrabby's fourth round pick. And second, the ongoing question of whether any of the 'Bums WRs will even catch a pass.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Vipers pulled out a surprising victory against the haw last week, but the Brewers matchups this week make that difficult to repeat. Still, you never know what Coach Googullymoogully's two Saints will do in their emotional return to the Superdome. We'll all have to tune in to Monday Afternoon Football to see (kickoff is at 2:30pm Hawaii time).

And the game of the week...

Misfits (-1/2) vs. Predacons
Interestingly enough, Coach Sinkerbeam and the External Consultant to the Misfits are also locked in a battle for the FMLB title right now. With a team at its peak and some soft matchups in both sports, the extended Misfits organization should sweep the weekend. McNabb to Ichiro is a lethal combination. Don't the Argyle Sox know that the #1 seed never ends up the champion?

Good luck this week.

Go vote.

3FL Notes: S6: Week 2 Preview

The NFL's first week had a little of everything - surprising players, compelling games, and fireworks being launched from buildings in the middle of the city of Pittsburgh. And after the 3rd lowest scoring week in 3FL history, things will only get more exciting from here.

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits - 73 points

Player MVPs:
Baltimore Ravens Defense - 23 points
Donovan McNabb (QB/Phi) - 22 points
Kurt Warner (QB/Ari) - 22 points
Charlie Batch (QB/Pit) - 20 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 5/6 - 83.33%
League Voting: 4/6 - 66.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 3/6 - 50%

Week 2 Information

Sunday Night: Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Bye Week: None until week 3

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Coach Haw has already matched his win total from last year and we're only through one week of the season. But it isn't going to be easy for him to double the W's, as the Vipers look like they'll have a decent week. Get out the antacids - the Steelers D on MNF might be needed to complete a comeback.

Misfits (-1) vs. Renegades
The Misfits are off to a great start after a high-scoring win last week, while the Renegades scored the least points in the league. Only Indy's Defense will make this one moderately interesting.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
This one will be a lot closer than Yahoo's prediction. Especially if the Preds once again leave as many points on the bench as they put on the field. And if the Riders actually start someone at TE.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Marauders
Both of these teams had a tough week 1. The Brewers scored enough points to beat every team in the league other than their opponent. The Marauders had their QB knocked silly and had to leave Portis on the bench because the information came in late about his MNF readiness. Things don't get any easier for Coach Hoss this week. Not with Alex Smith at the helm.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Roethlisberger might be back this week, which may be good or bad for the 'Bums. Plus, Carson Palmer can't be held to zero points again, can he? Not against the Browns.

And the game of the week...

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
This game has two evenly matched teams going head-to-head in what could really end up as a tie. Both Sunday and Monday night's games are extremely important for the final result. It's just a shame that Coach Drew probably won't have cable tv hooked up in his apartment yet. Hey, there's always StatTracker...

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S6: Week 1 Preview

Can Coach Skrabby defend the title? Will ray ray haw return to greatness? Are the Predacons finally going to miss the playoffs? Only the 3FL season will have the answers...

It all starts on Thursday night!
Remember to have your starting lineups set 5 minutes before the games start this week. Any players in the Dolphins vs. Steelers game will be locked in whichever lineup position you have them at 8:25pm EDT on Thursday.

Voting is Back!
You can once again vote on who YOU think will win each 3FL game. Click on "Matchup" beside the games on our main page and vote for the winner at the bottom. I'm assuming that votes need to be in before the Thursday night game, so vote soon. I'll keep a tally again this year and we can see how the predictions turn out. It won’t take you long...

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: Miami Dolphins @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ New York Giants
Monday Night Early: Minnesota Vikings @ Washington Redskins
Monday Night Late: San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders
Bye Week: None until week 3

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Things are getting interesting in this dim-witted matchup. The tables have turned with some off the field news and the installation of Charlie Batch as a starting fantasy QB. Roethlisberger's Appendectomy: 0. Baltimorons: 1.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Lightning
This one should be as close as they come, but the Preds get the nod because their RBs aren't sharing time. Or are they? We may have to wait until late on Monday night to see if the Lightning can come charging back.

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Vipers were unlucky in not being able to attend the live draft. It's a good thing that they just signed up for all of the high speed internet they can handle. There is going to be a bunch of add/dropping to do, especially after meeting last year's champ in week one.

Marauders (-1) vs. ray ray haw
After last year's disappointing season, Coach Haw could use an early pick-me-up. But his new HDTV will be set up just in time for to watch Clinton Portis run away with this one for the Marauders. If Portis is deactivated (shoulder) though, I'm changing my pick.

Rough Riders (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Even though Coach Bev is starting early with leaving starting spots empty, her sneaky good WRs give her an edge. Is anyone else excited to see that these two are going to play each other twice this season? A twin billing? Get it? I'll stop now.

And the game of the week...

Misfits (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Brew Crew had a great draft, but Coach Jules and the External Consultant have some soft matchups this week. Either way, neither of these teams will know what happened until Tuesday morning. That 10:15pm MNF game is past everyone's bedtime.

Good Luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 6!

3FL Notes: 2006 Draft Analysis

What a night! Ten of the league's twelve teams were on hand for our first attempt at a live draft, and it seemed like everyone had a good time. The message board was lit up through all 13 rounds and we even remembered to pick a player every now and then. I think a live draft will likely become an annual 3FL event.

With less than one week to go until the start of the NFL season, here is the first installment of the 3FL Notes - the draft analysis (in draft order).

1. Dumbbums: Coach Coaldog had the benefit of having the first pick in our first keeper draft, allowing him to select the NFL's top WR and hold on to one of the league's top RBs. A few Steelers might make or break this well-rounded team. Grade: A-

2. Renegades: Thanks to a few timely picks, Coach Val's team had a quality draft. She just has to hope that no one in the starting lineup gets hurt. Grade: B+

3. Baltimorons: How Hines Ward and Willie Parker made it on to a team from Baltimore, I'll never know. Coach Drew also picked up a triumvirate of QBs, just in case one of them gets too old during the season. Grade: A-

4. Spiked Vipers: The team from the Pacific scored some great WRs. Questions remain, however, about their backfield. And having three Dallas Cowboys on the starting roster. Grade: B

5. Rough Riders: It appears that Coach Bev did a bit of research before the draft. After finishing as the top team in the regular season last year, the Riders look really tough again. Don't say I didn't warn you. Grade: A

6. Lightning: A seven page color-coded spreadsheet of names and numbers (and more numbers) served as the backbone of Coach Thadtotti's draft strategy. The results compute to a pretty decent squad with some RBs by committee. And a surgically repaired QB's knee. Grade: B+

7. Yuengling Brewers: Coach Brew was watching (and updating the league about) an episode of COPS that was on during the draft. Maybe that's why he ended up with T.O. and the Ravens Defense on his team. Grade: A

8. Predacons: Peyton Manning will once again lead Coach Sinkerbeam's squad. But bad news is already trickling in about a few of the other starters. Maybe picking five RBs was a good idea. Grade: A-

9. Misfits: Other than choosing a solid overall team, the Misfits are most proud of including Wali Lundy on the roster this year. It might actually be better if he never needs to see any 3FL playing time. Grade: A

10. ray ray haw: After missing the playoffs for the first time last year and enduring the worst season his team had ever experienced, Coach Haw appears to be back. Rooting for the Steelers Defense on two different levels, however, will be gut wrenching. Grade: A-

11. The Comfy Chair: Our league's defending champion ended up with another quality squad. If Deion Branch would sign a contract with an NFL team it would be even more helpful. Plus, it's good to see Brian St. Pierre at least getting some reps again in the 3FL. Grade: B+

12. Marauders: Coach Hoss has a list of high-flying WRs that have the ability to take over a game. So much so that he may not even need to care about Clinton Portis' shoulder. Grade: A-

Stay tuned for the first predictions from the Comm-nosticator for 2006...

Draft Tonight!

Don't forget - our live online draft starts tonight at 8:00pm EDT. A majority of the league should be in attendance.

I've entered the keepers into the system as "pre-draft picks," so they should appear on your team as soon as the draft starts.

Good luck!

Keepers List

This season is our first attempt at being a "keeper" league. One player from each team's final 2005 roster has been protected and will stay on the same 3FL team for this year. Here is the 2006 list of coaches' keepers (in draft order):

01. Dumbbums (Scott) - LaDanian Tomlinson (RB/SD)
02. Renegades (Val) - Jake Delhomme (QB/Car)
03. Baltimorons (Drew) - Marvin Harrison (WR/Ind)
04. Spiked Vipers (Nick) - Randy Moss (WR/Oak)
05. Rough Riders (Bev) - Tiki Barber (RB/NYG)
06. Lightning (Thad) - Antonio Gates (TE/SD)
07. Yuengling Brewers (Rob) - Shaun Alexander (RB/Sea)
08. Predacons (Brian) - Peyton Manning (QB/Ind)
09. Misfits (Julie) - LaMont Jordan (RB/Oak)
10. ray ray haw (Glenn) - "Cadillac" Williams (RB/TB)
11. The Comfy Chair (Dan) - Larry Johnson (RB/KC)
12. Marauders (Greg) - Clinton Portis (RB/Was)

The live online draft is set to take place on Wednesday, August 30th at 8:00pm. Just login to Yahoo! and go to the 3FL league page - instructions will be there on how to enter the draft. Try to be a few minutes early, as the applet has to start on your computer and the draft will begin right on time. If you can't be there, you should still set up your pre-draft rankings, and for you it will be just like the draft in previous years.

Welcome to Season 6!

You are looking at the newest addition to the Family Fantasy Football League (the 3FL). Only the 12 coaches in the league have access to the official 3FL page, but we have started a blog so that everyone else can also keep track of the action.

The 3FL Notes and all other information from the 3FL Commissioner will be posted here. After each week's games, updated league standings will be available on this page as well. (I'll still email the league if something important or time sensitive comes up).

If you are new to the 3FL experience, a who's who of teams and their coaches is available on the sidebar to the right. Click on a coach's name for their 3FL profile. And the links to our league's Rules and Records (under 3FLinks) might be helpful to you as well.

Need to take a step back and ask, "what is Fantasy Football?" That's OK, too. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask.
