3FL Notes: S13: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

That was quite a playoff week - we broke more records and saw the curse win again. Both the Predacons and Dumbbums won by at least 25 points and will meet in SuperBowl XIII in what should be a high flying matchup.

Who will be receiving an etched trophy plate as a Festivus present? We'll have to stay up for Monday Night Football to find out.

Week 16 Information

Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ Philadelphia Eagles
Monday Night: Atlanta Falcons @ San Francisco 49ers

Here we go...it's SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#7 Misfits, Inc. vs. #8 Marauders
Appropriately, the seventh and eighth place teams will battle for seventh and eighth place. A lot of the players who carried FitzCorp into the playoffs are now sitting on the bench with red letters beside their names, but they are still able to field a decent team. Coach Hoss is dealing with kicker issues for the second straight postseason. As in his kicker has been cut from his NFL team. That makes the difference here.

For 5th Place:
#5 Yuengling Brewers vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
Appropriately, the fifth and sixth place teams will battle for fifth and sixth place. To add insult to RGIII, now the Brew Crew's other QB is questionable with a knee. SpiVi still has Cam Newton at the helm, so that's at least something. The winner of the consolation bracket will come down to a kicker and and a TE on MNF.

For 3rd Place:
#1 Lightning vs. #2 THE Haw
The curse struck again last week, and the top seeded Lightning have been relegated to playing the second seeded CAPS for third place. That makes 12 out of 13 times that the #1 seed has been kept from winning the championship. This matchup looks to be a good one, though. Can Brees and Graham get the Saints and the Bolts back on track? Or will Colin Kaepernick use his prime time game to give Coach Haw his 10th victory in the past 11 weeks?

3FL SuperBowl XIII
#3 Predacons vs. #4 Dumbbums
Here we go! These two South Division rivals face off in our 13th championship game. The Preds won both regular season matchups and therefore get the tiebreaker if we need it. This is the third SuperBowl appearance for each team, with the Dumbbums having a single championship win in 2008.

Jamaal Charles set a record last week, but he won't score 40 points again. Meanwhile for the 'Bums, Peyton Manning and Demaryius Thomas get to destroy the worst team in the NFL. They might outscore the Preds by themselves. It's all going to come down to Monday Night, when three of Coach Coaldog's players will lead the charge for a SuperBowl comeback.

Can Coach Sinkerbeam finally win it all? Will Peyton Manning set a another new playoff record? And whose name will be forever etched upon our last available spot on the original 3FL trophy? We've got one weekend to find out!

Happy Festivus, Merry Christmas and good luck this week.

Thanks to all for another fun season!

3FL Notes: S13: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

Well, how about that. All four of our top seeds survived and advanced to the next round of the playoffs. That's only happened one other time in our history. We've got last year's winner and the entire 3FL South still in the mix. There are going to be some amazing matchups this week.

Note: All individual team pages (see links on the sidebar) and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2013 regular season. This year's additions to the records page are in bold - and there are a lot of them. Take a look! Through 1,032 regular season games we have scored a combined 124,817 points.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: THE Haw - 93 points

Peyton Manning (QB/Den) - 31 points
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 30 points

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: San Diego Chargers @ Denver Broncos
Sunday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Detroit Lions

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl XIII, losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 Lightning vs. #4 Dumbbums
This game really would be better if it was played next week for the title, but we'll have to settle for having our two powerhouses face off in the semis for a ticket to the SuperBowl. These two were first and second in scoring this season and both earned their way onto the 3FL Records list for most points scored in a season (among other superlatives). Thursday will be a good indicator, but the Sunday and Monday night games will tell the story. Can they keep up these ridiculous numbers? We shall see.

#2 THE Haw vs. #3 Predacons
The 3FL South is guaranteed to be represented in the big game this year. These two ended the season separated by 1/2 game in their record and 1 point in their scoring total. They split their regular season series, with the CAPS edging out the Preds by two points in week 13 to win the division title. Now they'll face off with a shot at the league title on the line. Coach HAW hasn't lost since week five (that was the first week in OCTOBER!) and with a win here he'll reach 10 in a row and tie himself for second all-time on the winning streak list. Can Coach Sinkerbeam keep up?

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#5 Yuengling Brewers vs. #8 Marauders
Both of these teams gave their heavily favored opponents a good run last week but fell short to a couple of significant comebacks. The one thing we know about this game is that RGIII is out for the rest of the season, leaving the Brew Crew to plug in Joe Flacco for the remainder of the playoffs. That turn of events might not be ideal for them, but it will make for some dramatic fantasy football action as the two starting QBs will face off head-to-head on MNF.

#6 Spiked Vipers vs. #7 Misfits, Inc.
Yikes. It looks like these two took the brunt of the injuries last week, with SpiVi getting a late RB scratch and FitzCorp losing AP and Wes Welker long before their games were over. They'll limp into this week with a chance to move on in the consolation bracket, but don't be too sure that we'll get a true postseason matchup. Is it possible that they both have now stopped paying attention?

Good luck this week. The SuperBowl awaits!

3FL Notes: S13: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

Even though all eight spots were already claimed, our final week of the regular season shuffled the postseason deck a bit. The matchups are now set and the playoffs are ready to begin!

Remember that ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 1pm THIS SUNDAY, December 8th. You will not be able to add/drop after this time. Make sure your team is ready for the playoffs before then.

Three wins in a row wins it all!!

Week 13 Recap

Eric Decker (WR/Den) - 32 points
Russell Wilson (QB/Sea) - 26 points

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Houston Texans @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday Night: Carolina Panthers @ New Orleans Saints
Monday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Chicago Bears

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Lightning vs. #8 Marauders
The Bolts are back on top after outscoring the rest of the league in week 13, so they'll defend the title from the one seed. But is that where anyone wants to be? I'm pretty sure they can't complain about being only 13 points short of tying their own record for most team points scored in a season. The Marauders may come in at the bottom but they earned a W in both of their last two games to end up with a winning record for the year. And they may have lost to the Lightning in both matchups this year but only by a combined eight points. Plus, you know, there's the curse.

#2 THE Haw vs. #7 Misfits, Inc.
THE Haw won again last week and that makes eight in a row after starting the season 1-4. They're going to have to run that number to 11 in order to get their fourth 3FL championship, but we're getting ahead of ourselves. This one won't be as lopsided as the Yahoo! projections think. The strangest part is that we might see two backup QBs face off in the quarterfinals. Ok, that's wrong. The strangest part is that it looks like FitzCorp will enter the locked roster postseason without a single Philadelphia Eagle on their squad.

#3 Predacons vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
The Preds came within two points of a division title and the top seed, but maybe that was by design? I'm guessing that with a late scratch TE on SNF maybe not. If they can get through week 14 with a victory their matchups will get easier but that's going to be a tough task. SpiVi will be waiting for a primetime comeback, with almost half of their players going on Sunday or Monday night. We'll all have to stay up late to see what happens in what might be our closest game of the week.

#4 Dumbbums vs. #5 Yuengling Brewers
Well, isn't this interesting. The high flying 'Bums are the fourth seed. How did that happen? They have the same record as the Brew Crew but have scored over 220 more points this season, an average of 17 more points per week. Yikes. It may get ugly. But don't think the Brewers are going down without a fight. RGIII still has something to prove, right? Ah, who are we kidding, this one is probably going to get out of hand. A Brewers win would be the upset of the playoffs.

Good luck in the playoffs! The trophy awaits!

3FL Notes: S13: Week 13 Preview

All of our playoff spots are now claimed. But that doesn't mean that the last week of the season will be devoid of drama. We still have two division championships up for grabs and multiple 3FL records that could be broken (both league and individual, both good and bad). Stick around for the thrilling regular season conclusion!

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 94 points

Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 22 points

It's the last week of the regular season. Go vote before the first Thanksgiving game!

Week 13 Information

Thanksgiving Early: Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving Late: Oakland Raiders @ Dallas Cowboys
Thanksgiving Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Baltimore Ravens
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Washington Redskins
Monday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Seattle Seahawks

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The Brewers are in and the Stompers are out of the postseason but don't think that's the end of the story. Regardless of the outcome of this game, Coach Bev needs to score at least 62 points to keep from adding her name to the list of lowest season total scores of all time.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
It's a shame that this game doesn't have any real implications, because it just might be the best matchup of the week. The 'Morons will have a lot to watch on Thanksgiving. So there's that. Who will at least get to add another W to their record?

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Bolts fell out of first place in the 3FL last week but they still have a shot at the #1 seed. They need a win here and they'll be the favorite against the South champion Vipers. It will come down to Brees vs. Newton and which coach makes the correct decision on their starting defense.

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Renegades
Can you believe that Peyton Manning and the 'Bums are out of the running for the West Division title? They seem to have deserved a better fate. But don't cry for Coach Coaldog just yet. He still has a shot to win the season points total and will enter the playoffs with the highest scoring player in the league leading his team.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Marauders
FitzCorp still has a legitimate shot at winning the North and upping their playoff seed in the process. The Marauders have been hard figure out all year but they have secured our last postseason invite and isn't that enough for now? Both QBs play on Thanksgiving Day, so have some turkey and check your iPhones for the scores.

And the game of the week...

THE Haw (-1/2) vs. Predacons
It all comes down to this for the West Division title. Somehow the Preds are atop the league with one game to play, but their stay at the top should be a short one. The CAPS are riding a 7 game winning streak and have some favorable matchups this week. But does anyone want to take a streak like that into the playoffs? Or to be the #1 seed? Perhaps they'll both be wishing for a loss.

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck this week!

Thursday, November 21, 2013

3FL Notes: S13: Week 12 Preview

Only one more playoff spot was claimed last week. We have just two weeks left to earn the last three tickets to the postseason and six teams are still in the running.

Here we go!

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Predacons - 85 points

Player MVPs:
Cincinnati Bengals Defense - 27 points
Calvin Johnson (WR/Det) - 20 points
Marshawn Lynch (RB/Sea) - 20 points
Carson Palmer (QB/Ari) - 20 points

Predictions Tally

Week 12 Information

Thursday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons
Sunday Night: Denver Broncos @ New England Patriots
Monday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ Washington Redskins
Bye Week: Buffalo, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Seattle

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Predacons outscored the league last week and overtook the 'Bums for the lead in the West. Now Coach Coaldog has a chance to leapfrog back into the top spot in the division with a head-to-head victory. It will be easier than you think, as the Preds have Marshawn Lynch and both of their QBs on a bye.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Sadly, the Renegades are the only team at this point to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. But that doesn't mean they can't play spoiler in these last couple of weeks. This game will be close but Coach Val has a few too many red Qs to make a real run at RGIII and the Brew Crew.

THE Haw (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
Coach Haw is riding a six game winning streak and was able to grab a spot in the playoffs last week. A seventh straight victory shouldn't be far off, as the Chair is Quarterbackless this week and the CAPS have some really favorable matchups.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
SpiVi has been in a free fall for the past three weeks. They still have a stranglehold on the division, but they have yet to earn a win in the month of November. It's entirely possible that trend continues against Tom Brady and the 'Morons. On an unrelated note, can someone please change these gold starred helmets with their actual logos?

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The Bolts are alone at the top of the league and have expanded their points lead to 25 with only two weeks left. That's quite a way to defend the trophy. FitzCorp may be able to qualify for the playoffs this week but it won't be because of a win. Not after having to watch the Brees/Graham connection on Thursday night.

And the game of the week...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The Marauders are currently clinging to the eighth and final playoff spot, so they are the team that is most vulnerable to fall out of the postseason picture. Teams like the Stompers can start their final push with a targeted win here but it won't be easy. Alfred Morris will score just enough points on MNF to complete the comeback.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 14, 2013

3FL Notes: S13: Week 11 Preview

Half of our playoff spots were claimed last week and we only have three weeks left to figure out the other half. This week we'll kick off the second round of intra-divisional games with Rivalry Week! It's going to be an exciting end of the season.

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 92 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 31 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Den) - 28 points
Robert Griffin III (QB/Was) - 25 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 38/60 - 63.33%
League Voting: 35/60 - 58.33%

Week 11 Information

Thursday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans
Sunday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night: New England Patriots @ Carolina Panthers
Bye Week: Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Rams

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for rivalry week!:

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The 'Morons have scored 15 more points this season than their opponent, but they somehow need wins and outside help for a shot at the playoffs. Meanwhile the Brew Crew is guaranteed a division title and a playoff spot. Funny how things work out in the 3FL sometimes.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Rivalry week always features this battle of the twins and this year it has huge implications. The loser of this matchup is officially knocked out of the playoffs. So who gets the victory? We'll know more after the Thursday night game, but the Stompers have the RB advantage by the smallest of margins.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
The Preds held on for a victory last week and clinched their 12th postseason berth in our 13 years. FitzCorp would probably clinch with a win this week, but that's going to be difficult with Romo on a bye. Of course, they might clinch with a loss, too.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Chair probably need to win out for a shot at the playoffs but that's not going to be an easy task without their franchise QB. The Vipers can't seem to get out of their own way lately, but a close battle might be just what they need to get warmed up for the postseason. It's going to be a good one.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. THE Haw
Wow, these rivalry week matchups just keep getting better. The CAPS are on a five game winning streak, but they now have to face Peyton Manning and the West leading 'Bums. It will be an uphill battle but we'll need to stay up on MNF to see if Coach Haw's team can complete the comeback.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This battle is big for both of these teams. The Bolts are hanging on to the number one spot in the league by just four points with three weeks to play, while the Marauders are at the bottom of the playoff picture and looking to move closer to securing a spot. These two just might meet again in three weeks in a quarterfinal matchup.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 07, 2013

3FL Notes: S13: Week 10 Preview

The Lightning followed up their amazing week with a blowout loss, but they managed to take over the top spot in the league anyway. Can you believe it's already week 10? Things are going to get sorted out soon, right?

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Baltimorons - 101 points

Player MVPs:
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 32 points
Andre Johnson (WR/Hou) - 29 points
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit) - 26 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 33/54 - 61.11%
League Voting: 29/54 - 53.70%
Yahoo! Projections: 33/54 - 61.11%

Week 10 Information

Thursday Night: Washington Redskins @ Minnesota Vikings
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ New Orleans Saints
Monday Night: Miami Dolphins @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bye Week: Browns, Chiefs, Patriots, Jets

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 10:

THE Haw (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The CAPS have hit their stride as of late, winning their last four in a row and climbing to within 10 points of the league lead. The Stompers broke out last week but only earned a tie and are still the lowest scoring team in the league. It won't be pretty but Coach Haw will grab his 5th straight W thanks to Lamar Miller on MNF.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Baltimorons
FitzCorp finally got back on track with their first win in five games last week. With Tom Brady on a bye it's looking like this one should be relatively void of drama, with AP going on Thursday night and Romo mopping things up late on Sunday for the corporation.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Brew Crew is hanging with the big boys, leading the East Division and tied for the best record in the league. All this while being in the bottom half of the 3FL in scoring. It helps that they have the least points against by a wide margin. That luck continues this week, especially with Jamaal Charles on a bye.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
To add insult to injury (literally), the Chair's unlucky season continued last week with a broken collarbone for first round pick Aaron Rodgers. Nick Foles should fill in admirably, but most likely Coach Skrabby will be able to have the former Super Bowl MVP back just in time to not make the playoffs.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Vipers scored a season low 28 points last week with all of their starters active. If they weren't in the South Division there might be some cause for concern, but it will be really difficult for them not to make the playoffs at this point. Meanwhile, the 'Bums dropped out of first place in the league last week. But don't cry for them. Peyton Manning is back under center.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The Bolts have to be feeling pretty comfortable after rising to the top spot in the league last week. A playoff berth and championship defense are almost assured with a win against the lowly, last place Renegades. So how is the #1 vs #12 matchup the game of the week? Just wait and see. It's going to be a close one all the way until the end of the Sunday Night game. Another 3FL nailbiter.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S13: Week 9 Preview

Three primetime comebacks highlighted another crazy week in the 3FL. Don't look now, but we've got another six NFL teams on a bye this week. It should be interesting as the first game starts just after Trick-or-Treating ends on Halloween night!

As a side note, this is our 300th blog post. Thanks for visiting and I hope you've been entertained over these past 7+ years.

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 104 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 36 points
Cam Newton (QB/Car) - 24 points
Colin Kaepernick (QB/SF) - 23 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Den) - 23 points

Seriously, go vote!

Week 9 Information

Thursday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ Miami Dolphins
Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans
Monday Night: Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
Bye Week: Cardinals, Broncos, Lions, Jaguars, Giants, 49ers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
The Bolts had quite a last week. They scored the most points in the league, had the Toyota Biggest Blowout, picked all 6 3FL games correctly and brought their season total to within 7 points of the leader. Not too bad. They probably can't match that success this week, but I'm sure they'll accept a win against the 10th ranked 'Morons.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
What is going on at the corporate offices? FitzCorp has lost four straight games and slipped from first to seventh in the league during that time. Things are about to get much better, though, as the Chair comes to town with Aaron Rodgers as their only hope for an upset victory. It will most likely be out of reach before he has a chance to play on MNF.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. THE Haw
The CAPS are on a three game winning streak and have raised their record to .500. So of course I'm picking the hapless, second lowest scoring Renegades in this one. What? Well, first of all CJ2K and Kaepernick are on a bye. And the Renegades have some great matchups with their starters if, you know, they start them. If not I'm changing this pick.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
The Preds took a big loss last week and were knocked out of the top spot in the West. A matchup against the Stompers should help them try to reclaim the division lead, especially with four of Coach Bev's starters either on a bye or out indefinitely. They both have players on Sunday night and Monday night so plan to stay up late.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
SpiVi is quietly keeping up with the best in the 3FL, tying the best record in the league and being only 13 points back of our current top scorer. The Marauders came oh so close to a win last week but had to watch a primetime comeback. Unfortunately that's going to happen again this week, as Coach Hoss has a trio going on Halloween night but nothing after 4pm on Sunday. And he has to hope Ben Roethlisberger can score a few points. At least we don't subtract any for a QB getting sacked.

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The 'Bums are the league's top team with the highest point total and are riding a five game winning streak. So how are they an underdog to their East Division counterpart? The one who has scored 125 less points so far this year? Peyton Manning and four other starters are on a bye, that's how. Still, the 'Bums will give the Brew Crew everything they can handle. It should be a good one.

Happy Halloween and good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S13: Week 8 Preview

Our lowest scoring week so far this year gave us a new team atop the 3FL. The Dumbbums have won four straight and have finally matched their ranking with their league leading point total.

Things are about to get even more interesting. Six NFL teams are on a bye this week, so the waiver wire will get quite a workout. Make sure you fill in your lineup before gameday.

Week 7 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: THE Haw - 90 points

Player MVPs:
Andrew Luck (QB/Ind) - 29 points
Matthew Stafford (QB/Det) - 25 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Den) - 23 points
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 23 points

Week 8 Information

Thursday Night: Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Minnesota Vikings
Monday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ St. Louis Rams
Bye Week: Ravens, Bears, Texans, Colts, Chargers, Titans

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 8:

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
If you would have told me that Aaron Rodgers would be part of a team that is on a four game losing streak, I wouldn't have believed you. But after watching the Chair's one point loss last week it is clear that luck is not on their side this season. The Brew Crew on the other hand...

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Take our lowest scoring team, hand them a Q and an O and three players on a bye, and then give them a game against our second highest scoring team. It's not going to be pretty. At least a bunch of Vipers have the week off, too. So that's something.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The 'Morons really need a win to keep a mathematical chance at the postseason. A Renegades team with 6 of 14 players on a bye is just what the playoff doctor ordered. Will Coach Val leave holes in her lineup again this week? Who can she afford to drop??

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Marauders
The 'Bums are back atop the league and rightfully so. They are the only team to score more than 500 points so far this year. Peyton Manning will continue to deliver victories, but don't sleep on the Marauders this week. They are trying to keep pace in the 3FL North.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Predacons
After enduring a loss last week, the Bolts are ready to get back on the winning track. They'll get a test against the Preds but it won't be much now that Brees and Graham are back from their bye. Plus Coach Sinkerbeam is almost guaranteed to leave the highest scoring player on the bench.

And the game of the week...

THE Haw (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
These two are heading in opposite directions. The once mighty FitzCorp has lost three in a row and slipped from first to sixth place in those three weeks. Meanwhile the CAPS have won two straight and outscored the league last week. It looks to be an epic battle and it just might even out their records.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S13: Week 7 Preview

Last week was our lowest scoring week of the year, but it was also our most exciting. Five of our games were decided by a combined total of only 18 points. Things are tightening up as we start the second half of the season.

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 82 points

Player MVPs:
Cam Newton (QB/Car) - 29 points
Matthew Stafford (QB/Det) - 26 points
Kansas City Chiefs Defense - 26 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 23/36 - 63.89%
League Voting: 17/36 - 47.22%
Yahoo! Projections: 23/36 - 63.89%

Week 7 Information

Thursday Night: Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona Cardinals
Sunday Night: Denver Broncos @ Indianapolis Colts
Monday Night: Minnesota Vikings @ New York Giants
Bye Week: New Orleans Saints, Oakland Raiders

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Stiletto Stompers
This one might get ugly. Romo and Peterson just might outscore the Stompers by themselves. At least there will be a reason to watch football on Sunday night.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. THE Haw
If the playoffs started this weekend, these two would go head-to-head in the first round. We're still a little early for that kind of talk, but this one will have the feel of a playoff game. Throw the records out the window. It may end up in a tie.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Preds are clinging to the lead in the West division by the tip of a fingernail. They'll need to come up big against the Chair to keep out in front of the 'Bums. The Chair look to be slight underdogs, but with Aaron Rodgers behind center anything can happen.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Peyton Manning has the 'Bums flying high this year. Half of the time, anyway. Last week Coach Coaldog's team earned a victory, but they would have lost to any of the other 10 teams in the league. I'm guessing that means they're due for another 100+ point week.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Lighting
Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham are on a bye. If there ever was a week to sneak a win against the Bolts, this is it. The Brew Crew will need contributions from the whole roster but they'll have a great opportunity to take down our current league leader.

And the games of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Hey, can you two quick hit the waiver wire and start some players who actually have a game and/or who are not injured? Or is that on purpose to make it more difficult for league voting and prognostication? I've flipped a coin. You should too.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S13: Week 6 Preview

Last week saw both of our undefeated teams take a loss and both of our winless teams earn a victory. Perhaps some new streaks are set to begin. Also, the Lightning jumped up into the top spot in the league with another solid outing while the Dumbbums scored more than 100 points for the third time in our first five weeks.

The next two months should be very interesting.

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 103 points

Player MVPs:
Peyton Manning (QB/Den) - 36 points
San Francisco 49ers Defense - 21 points
T.Y. Hilton (WR/Ind) - 19 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 20/30 - 66.67%
League Voting: 14/30 - 46.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 20/30 - 66.67%

Go vote before the Thursday night game!

Week 6 Information

Thursday Night: New York Giants @ Chicago Bears
Sunday Night: Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ San Diego Chargers
Bye Week: Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

Renegades (-1) vs. Predacons
The Renegades picked up their first win last week and they are looking to double their W total against the Preds. With Coach Sinkerbeam's TE on IR and their Defense on a bye, that is the most likely scenario. Even before Philip Rivers takes the field on MNF.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
This game features our highest scoring team against our lowest scoring team, with the 'Bums posting 164 more points than the Stompers over our first five weeks. That's almost 33 more points per week. But we all know what can happen in the 3FL, even with Peyton Manning at the helm.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. THE Haw
The CAPS have scored more points than the Brew Crew this season, but somehow they are 1-4 while the Brewers are 4-1. There are players in this matchup in each time slot this week, but the most important will be the comeback led by Trent Richardson on MNF.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
We'll be treated to a dream QB matchup in this one. Rodgers vs. Brees is the highlight, but the Chair lacking a backup RB for a bye fill-in will be the decider. Can Chicago's D make up the difference? Probably not.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The 'Morons came alive last week for their highest point total and first win of the year. These two better pick up the pace if they want a shot at the postseason. We havefive teams at 1-4, so at least one of them will make the playoffs. That race starts now.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
This one would have been a better story if both of these teams didn't suffer their first loss last week. But still, it will be a great matchup to watch. Adrian Peterson is back for FitzCorp and with Vick injured they will be forced to start Romo (instead of leaving his 40 points on the bench). Advantage to the Corporation.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S13: Week 5 Preview

Two undefeated and two winless teams remain. But more importantly, you can change the background of your 3FL page to white instead of a blurry football field. Just click on the gear beside the logo on your team's page. Yay for readability!

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 101 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 32 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Den) - 30 points
Indianapolis Colts Defense - 22 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 15/24 - 62.50%
League Voting: 12/24 - 50%
Yahoo! Projections: 15/24 - 62.50%

Week 5 Information

Thursday Night: Buffalo Bills @ Cleveland Browns
Sunday Night: Houston Texans @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday Night Late: San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders
Monday Night: New York Jets @ Atlanta Falcons
Bye Week: Vikings, Steelers, Buccaneers, Redskins

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Without a win here, it might be time for the Renegades to pack it up for the '13 season. I know it's only five losses but we only play thirteen games. They may actually be favored to earn a W this week but Aaron Rodgers stands in the way. Plus a Chair backup RB yet to be named.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. THE Haw
Can Drew Brees be stopped? Probably not. Sunday night will make for an exciting comeback attempt by the CAPS, but they got their win last week. It will be very close so don't bet an eyebrow or anything.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The Preds finally made all the right managerial decisions last week. And they lost for the first time this year. They should have an easier go against the tough luck Marauders this week, but who knows?

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Here we go. The 'Morons look to grab their first win this week and they've got a good chance to do it. Tom Brady will give them just enough of a lead so everyone will have to pay attention to Bilal Powell on MNF.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
The Brewers have a tough bye week to muddle through, but they may just have the best chance of anyone this season to beat the Vipers. Is that great manipulation of the waiver wire? Or just matchup luck?

And the game of the week...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Misfits
Coach Coaldog has a great shot at handing FitzCorp their first loss of the season. That of course depends on which 'Bums show up. And if they start a Defense. If not I'm changing my pick.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S13: Week 4 Preview

After three weeks we still have three undefeated and three winless teams. We're guaranteed to reduce both of those numbers by at least one this week.

Remember that the byes are starting. Who can you afford to keep on your active roster?

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 105 points

Player MVPs:
Drew Brees (QB/NO) - 29 points
Cam Newton (QB/Car) - 28 points
Chicago Bears Defense - 25 points

Note: The Stiletto Stompers scored just 14 points in week 3, making the list of the lowest weekly team scores of all time.

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 11/18 - 61.11%
League Voting: 8/18 - 44.44%
Yahoo! Projections: 10/18 - 55.56%

I know the Thursday deadline every week is silly, but go vote!

Week 4 Information
Thursday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams
Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Atlanta Falcons
Monday Night: Miami Dolphins @ New Orleans Saints
Bye Week: Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Renegades
3-0 vs. 0-3. Easy choice, right? Not so fast. It should be a great matchup, with Thursday and Sunday night weighing heavily on the outcome. It has a better chance than you think of turning zeros to ones than threes to fours in their team records.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
What happened to the 'Bums after breaking the weekly team record in week 1? After scoring our lowest team total in week 2 and being on the wrong side of the Toyota Biggest Blowout last week, they get lucky this week with the Chair's Aaron Rodgers on a bye.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Last week the Bolts led the league with 105 points, while the Stompers scored an unfortunate record 14 points. But we get to hit the reset button every week and start from zero again. The Lightning's bench being completely unavailable might spark Coach Bev's team back on track.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
In our battle of unbeatens, someone has to take their first loss of the season after this one is over. It should be a good early matchup to watch, with a majority of the players going in the Sunday @ 1pm games. Edge to the Preds since SpiVi has Cam Newton on a bye.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Alfred Morris has averaged -1 point per week over our first three weeks of the season. Coach Hoss might be better off not filling a RB spot at all. That should change this week, as long as he replaces his bye week Defense. Right? And the Brewers sub out their bye week TE?

And the game of the week...

The HAW (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Is the Kaepernick era over in HAWville? After scoring a total of -2 points in the past two weeks it might be an option on the table. I think Colin and the 49ers rebound tonight and start this long Thursday to Monday matchup off right for Coach HAW. And there is a bonus - one of these winless teams is assured its first victory!

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 19, 2013

3FL Notes: S13: Week 3 Preview

After our record breaking first week of the season, last week was a little less exciting. Half of the league did score at least 70 points, though. Get ready for the last of our first set of intra-divisional games and the final full-roster games before the bye weeks start!

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Spiked Vipers - 90 points

Player MVPs:
Aaron Rodgers (QB/GB) - 33 points
Michael Vick (QB/Phi) - 27 points
Marshawn Lynch (RB/Sea) - 23 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 6/12 - 50%
League Voting: 3/12 - 25%
Yahoo! Projections: 7/12 - 58.33%

Go vote!

Week 3 Information

Thursday Night: Kansas City Chiefs @ Philadelphia Eagles
Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: Oakland Raiders @ Denver Broncos
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

THE Haw (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Haw, like the Steelers, are winless after our first two weeks. It doesn't help when your QB scores negative points. That trend changes after this game, because the Preds can't play the lowest scoring team in the league every week.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Can Trent Richardson pick up the Colts offense quick enough to score any points this week? LeSean McCoy gets it started for Coach Brew on Thursday night but the Stompers counter with Denver's
Defense on MNF. It will be a close one.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Which 'Bums will show up? In week 1 they scored the most points in the history of the 3FL. Then in week 2 they scored the lowest point total in the entire league. The matchups don't favor the Bolts, but having Eric Decker on MNF might just be enough to hold on to a win.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Can I hold out judgement on this one until after Larry Fitzgerald's status for the game is announced? His availability could make or break this matchup. But so could the Bears Defense against the Steelers on Sunday night, unfortunately.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The battle of the M logos should be an even matchup. Vick and the Eagles against their former coach on Thursday night? That will be fun to watch. So will seeing if Coach Hoss can even up the North Division records.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The Vipers have looked solid so far this season, and that should continue. The Renegades bad luck seems to have carried over from last year. How long will it last? They need a win here, as 0-3 will make it very difficult to qualify for the playoffs. This will be a close one all the way through MNF.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S13: Week 2 Preview

What a way to start the season! Peyton Manning opened things up with a record breaking performance in the first game of the year, and by the end of the week we had broken two more records. What happens next?

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 124 points (new 3FL record)

Player MVPs:
Peyton Manning (QB/Den) - 51 points (new 3FL record)
Colin Kaepernick (QB/SF) - 27 points
Victor Cruz (WR/NYG) - 23 points

The 3FL also scored 889 total points in week 1, breaking the record for league points in a week.

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 4/6 - 66.67%
League Voting: 2/6 - 33.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 4/6 - 66.67%

Week 2 Information

Thursday Night: New York Jets @ New England Patriots
Sunday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks
Monday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

Lightning (-1/2) vs Misfits, Inc.
Our top ranked team in the draft needed some help to eek out a victory last week. Meanwhile, FitzCorp was busy putting up the second highest point total in the league. The difference will be the Bengals D against the Steelers on MNF. Who are you rooting for, Coach ThadTotti?

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Predacons
The 'Bums had a decent week to start the season. They won't break any other records this week, but they're still poised to score a bunch of points. The Preds on the other hand were pretty average. Expect the Steelers D to give Coach Coaldog the win, if things aren't already decided before MNF.

Stiletto Stompers (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Take your pick here. If both of these managers start the right personnel this one could go either way. It will probably come down to Frank Gore's performance on Sunday night, but it's going to be close. You'll have to stay up the whole time.

THE Haw (-1/2) vs. Marauders
After last week's loss, Yahoo's season projection for the Marauders has been lowered from 2-11 to 1-11-1. What? I guarantee they will win more than one game this year. Not this week, however. But sometime.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Baltimorons
The 'Morons scored the lowest total in the league last week - they totaled only 5 points more than Peyton Manning himself. They probably won't get a reprieve from 12th place when they face Cam Newton and the Vipers.

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
If you look at these teams on paper, you have to be surprised that neither earned a win in week 1. One of them will get one here but it won't be easy. It's going to be a close one and it will all be finished before the work week starts.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S13: Week 1 Preview

Can the Lightning defend the trophy? Will half of the league keep the gold helmets with the black star? Can anyone read any of the text on the newly designed website? Season 13 will be lucky for someone, but only the 3FL season will have these answers...

It all starts tonight!
Remember to have your starting lineups set 5 minutes before the games begin this week. Any players in the Ravens vs. Broncos game will be locked in whichever lineup position you have them at 8:25pm EDT tonight.

Coach Thadtotti once again crafted our customized schedule. This year divisional games will be played in weeks 1-3 and 11-13 and week 11 will be our rivalry week. Thanks, SpreadsheetGeek.

Voting is up and running for the season. Make sure you vote on all the 3FL games before the beginning of tonight's NFL game and Yahoo! will keep track for us this year. And all managers can vote individually.

Here we go!

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Denver Broncos
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night Early: Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Redskins
Monday Night Late: Houston Texans @ San Diego Chargers
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The Bolts get to begin their title defense with a top ranked draft. It's almost not fair. But the Marauders will have something to say about week one with a comeback ready to start in prime time.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. THE Haw
This one should be a good matchup between our elder statesmen. We should know much more about the direction of the game tonight, when the 'Bums have nearly half of their lineup playing on the NFL's opening night.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
It's a rivalry matchup preview here in our first week of the season. The twins should end up in a tie (in a perfect world), but it's more likely that neither coach will stay awake for the deciding game on Sunday night.

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Both of these teams already have some decisions to make about starting players. It will come down to who leaves points on the bench and if the Preds can make a comeback with three players in prime time.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
There is already a QB controversy at the corporate office. That's going to be a recurring theme this year. Meanwhile, the Brew Crew is going to start the players chosen earliest by Yahoo!, but that strategy has a decent track record.

And the game of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
This one may be too close to call. The winner gets a jump start in the South Division, but the loser still has either Aaron Rodgers or Cam Newton at the helm. That's not too shabby.

Good luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 13!

3FL Notes: 2013 Draft Analysis

All but one of our teams was represented during the online draft on Thursday night. Here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. Misfits, Inc.: The corporation obviously took Adrian Peterson with the first pick. They also welcomed back an Eagles' QB for the first time in a few years. They seem to be a little weak at TE and K, but who cares about those positions? Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

2. The Comfy Chair: Surprising no one who has ever done a live draft in the 3FL, Coach Skrabby chose Aaron Rodgers with the second pick. He was strong in the middle of the draft but ended up with some guys who are hurt. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: B)

3. Renegades: Internet problems didn't allow the new parents to get on until after the first few rounds were over, but they still managed to draft a quality team. They'd better hope for good health this year, though. Depth is not abundant. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: B)

4. Dumbbums: Coach Coaldog learned a lesson from last year's delegation of power during the draft. This time he wrote out some specific instructions and things turned out significantly better than they did in 2012. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

5. Stiletto Stompers: The Stompers chose a good team with a lot of upside. The backfield looks strong but there seem to be a lot of New York Giants hanging around. We'll see if that is a good thing. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: B)

6. Spiked Vipers: Staying with his long standing 3FL tradition, SpiVi selected the first Defense in the draft (in the sixth round). For some reason that always seems to work out for them, though. And the rest of the team looks pretty strong. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: B)

7. THE Haw: Balanced is probably the best word to describe THE 2013 Haw. The talent is spread across the team, and they have at least one of the best at every position. Kaepernick's performance may be the key. Grade: B+ (Yahoo! Grade: B)

8. Baltimorons: Ray Rice is a Baltimoron? Perfect. The Pats offense and Gronkowski's injury will tell the story for the first half of the 'Moron's season. Grade: B- (Yahoo! Grade: C)

9. Marauders: Coach Hoss' team is projected to win only two games this year according to Yahoo's draft day predictions. There is no way that's right. I see a pretty solid squad and they even have some decent backups. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: C)

10. Lightning: Those spreadsheets culminated in the Bolts winning the "Best Draft" award according to Toyota. And all this while gazing at the championship trophy across the room. Heck, just the Brees to Graham hookup might win a few games by itself. Grade: A- (Yahoo! Grade: A)

11. Yuengling Brewers: Not sure why we all think we can do better than the AutoDraft feature. This is a couple of years in a row that the Brew Crew got some extra sleep and woke up with a great team. Thanks, Yahoo! Grade: A (Yahoo! Grade: A)

12. Predacons: With the last pick in this year's draft, the Preds did an admirable job of reacting to the picks in front of them. Of course, their backup RB broke his leg in a preseason game during the draft. Let's hope that wasn't an omen for the season. Grade: B (Yahoo! Grade: C)

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions soon. Stay tuned.

2013 Draft Order and Divisions

Using the updated double-secret reverse reveal draft pick method and my left over Christmas card envelopes, the draft order for the 2013 season of the 3FL has been chosen. Three-quarters of the teams in the league were present during the selection process.

2013 3FL Draft Order

1. Misfits, Inc.
2. The Comfy Chair
3. Renegades
4. Dumbbums
5. Stiletto Stompers
6. Spiked Vipers
7. THE Haw
8. Baltimorons
9. Marauders
10. Lightning
11. Yuengling Brewers
12. Predacons

We also decided to continue to assign divisions based on the historical performance of their 2013 draft pick number's winning percentage. In our first 12 years those stats are as follows:
Draft Pick - Win Percentage
6  -  .572
10  -  .538
12  -  .519
3  -  .513
2  -  .509
9  -  .506
7  -  .497
5  -  .487
8  -  .469
1  -  .462
4  -  .462
11  -  .452

Giving us the following four divisions:

NORTH
Lightning, Marauders, Misfits, Inc.

EAST
Renegades, Stiletto Stompers, Yuengling Brewers

WEST
Predacons, THE Haw, Dumbbums

SOUTH
Spiked Vipers, The Comfy Chair, Baltimorons

Possible rule changes are being taken into consideration and will be put to a vote during training camp. We will tentatively hold the live online draft at 9:00pm on Thursday, August 29, 2013.

Have a great off-season!
