Stay tuned later in the week for final stats and the 2007 season wrap-up.

Thanks to everyone for a great season!

3FL Notes: S7: Week 16 (SuperBowl) Preview

The curse wins again.

The #1 seeded, top scoring, record-tying Lightning have gone the way of our last six top seeds. Coach Thad's team scored their lowest total of the year in a loss to the SuperBowl-bound Renegades. Meanwhile, Misfits, Inc. punched their ticket to the big game by outscoring everyone else in the entire league.

Week 14 set the record for most league points in a playoff week. Last week tied the record for least league points in a playoff week. You just never know what is going to happen in the 3FL...

Week 15 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 81 points

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defense - 21 points
New England Patriots Defense - 20 points
Kurt Warner (QB/Ari) - 18 points

Week 16 Information

Thursday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ St. Louis Rams
Saturday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Carolina Panthers
Sunday Night: Washington Redskins @ Minnesota Vikings
Monday Night: Denver Broncos @ San Diego Chargers

It's here! SuperBowl week in the 3FL...

For 7th Place:
#5 Baltimorons vs. #7 Dumbbums
Coach Drew did predict a rematch of last year's SuperBowl - but I'll bet he didn't think the loser of it would end up in eighth place. The Baltimorons put themselves on the wrong end of the records last week, scoring the second fewest points ever in a 3FL playoff week. This should be a great game between the two dim-witted teams, though, with Romo-to-Owens highlighting a battle that will last from Thursday night all the way through Monday night.

For 5th Place:
#3 Marauders vs. #8 ray ray haw
Both of these teams had decisive wins last week after sub-par quarterfinals games. Randy Moss broke their regular season matchup wide open and he may do the same thing again. But the final score may rest upon the sit/start decisions of Coach haw and his corps of six WRs. Or the legs of Adrian Peterson on Sunday night.

For 3rd Place:
#1 Lightning vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
Is it ironic that the (usually) high-flying Lightning can blame much of their semifinal loss on the weather? The curse sent a reminder through the snow showers and now Coach Thad has to settle for playing Coach GooMoo for third place. As for this game, it pits the NFL's two best QBs against each other in what should turn out to be a high scoring affair. Neither team has ever finished higher than fourth place in the 3FL, so one of them will earn a bronze virtual statue on their Yahoo! fantasy sports profile. Does anyone have the weekend forecast?

3FL SuperBowl VII:
#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #4 Renegades
Who would have guessed these two would meet for the championship and the trophy? Nobody. During the entire 2007 playoffs the Renegades received a total of zero pick'em votes from our league managers. Zero. But that didn't stop them from making it to the SuperBowl. The newlyweds of FitzCorp come storming into this game with some momentum and a few favorable matchups. Will they chose the right starters? Or will Coach Val surprise everyone again? Both teams have players in the MNF game on Christmas Eve - but Santa can only bring the trophy to one of them. We may have to wait until we hear reindeer up on the rooftop to see who it is...

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

Thanks to all for another fun season!

Good luck this week!

3FL Notes: S7: Week 15 (Semifinals) Preview

The trophy is headed somewhere completely new this year! There are no former 3FL champions among our final four, so a first-time winner will take home the honor and the hardware for the 2007 season. But who will it be?

Remember that there are games on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday this week. Make sure you have your starting lineups set for players in those games before they start.

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 109 points

Player MVPs:

Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 31 points
Jay Cutler (QB/Den) - 29 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 28 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

League Voting: 1/4 - 25%
Yahoo! Projections: 3/4 - 75%

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: Denver Broncos @ Houston Texans
Saturday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ San Francisco 49ers
Sunday Night: Washington Redskins @ New York Giants
Monday Night: Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl VII, Losers play for 3rd Place)

#1 Lightning vs. #4 Renegades
The Lightning continue their march toward history after a convincing quarterfinal win in which they scored the second highest playoff weekly total in league history. Couple that with a tie for the most points ever scored in the regular season and this team seems unstoppable. But, as we've seen, anything can happen in the 3FL. Jay Cutler's performance on Thursday night might be a good indication of if it will.

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
Decisions, decisions. FitzCorp has a bunch of them to make. The Vipers on the other hand have little to think about - their entire bench is full of players that most likely will not play. But they won last week even after sitting a MNF WR for strategy's sake. I doubt that will happen again, as both of these teams will be focused on the prime-time game to see who ends up in the SuperBowl.

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, Losers play for 7th)

#3 Marauders vs. #7 Dumbbums
This could be the best game of the week and it's in the the consolation bracket. Will Vince Young score negative points again? Whose high-flying WRs will be the difference? Can the Dayne train even leave the station on Thursday night? Will Adrian Peterson attempt to mount a Marauders comeback or just seal the victory on MNF? What a matchup! Someone is going to go storming into the 5th place game...

#5 Baltimorons vs. #8 ray ray haw
OK, so this game just might be as good as the Marauders/Dumbbums battle. Led by their respective QBs, each of these two-time champions has been streaky throughout the year. In fact, Coach haw comes into this week having lost his last five in a row. Only one point separated them in week six, and that just might be the case again.

Good luck this week. The trophy awaits a new home!

3FL Notes: S7: Week 14 (Quarterfinals) Preview

The playoffs are here! Congratulations to the Vipers, Dumbbums and haw for clinching the final three playoff spots.

There are two things to remember for this week.

First, everyone who qualified for the playoffs will play in each of the next three weeks. Make sure you have a lineup set from now through the end of the postseason.

Second, and more importantly, ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 12:55pm THIS SUNDAY, December 9th. You will not be able to add/drop after this time. Make sure your team is ready for the playoffs before then.

And don't forget that all remaining weeks start with a Thursday Night NFL game.

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 96 points

Player MVPs:

Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 28 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 27 points
Carolina Panthers Defense - 26 points

Regular Season Final Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 47/78 - 60.26%
League Voting: 47/78 - 60.26%
Yahoo! Projections: 46/78 - 58.97%

The Dumbbums were 6/6 in week 13 voting.
Vote early! Voting is up and running for the playoffs and the polls close at 8:10pm on Thursday evening.

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: Chicago Bears @ Washington Redskins
Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Baltimore Ravens
Monday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

#1 Lightning vs. #8 ray ray haw
Is this the year for the curse of #1 to be broken? The top seed in the 3FL playoffs has lost in the first round four out of six times and has never won a championship. But this #1 seed has the 2007 version of Tom Brady. Of course, he's going against the Steelers Defense this week, so either victory will be bittersweet. The haw lost their last four games in a row but somehow managed to cling to the eighth seed. It won't be easy to pull an upset, but we all know that anything can happen in the 3FL.

#2 Misfits, Inc. vs. #7 Dumbbums
Donovan McNabb looks like he'll be back as captain of the Corp this week, but will he be all the way back? The 'Bums have a RB playing aginst their own Defense, which will cannabalize some points, but the result of this matchup will hinge on the performances of LT and TO. One thing is for sure - we'll know the winner at around 7:30pm on Sunday.

#3 Marauders vs. #6 Spiked Vipers
In a rematch of last week's game, these two will battle it out for a third time this year. The Vipers won both previous contests and look to continue that trend with a marathon approach; they have at least one player in a game in each time slot. The Marauders spent a good part of the season at the top of the league but finished as the third seed. Maybe that was on purpose...

#4 Renegades vs. #5 Baltimorons
The Baltimorons have an opportunity this year to repeat as champions and keep the trophy right where it is. But don't count out the Renegades. I know they finished the regular season 10th out of 12 in scoring, but there's a reason they went 8-5 to earn the fourth seed. Of course, an injured QB and no backup RB may make a deep playoff run difficult.

Good luck this week. Three wins in a row wins it all!

3FL Notes: S7: Week 13 Preview

It's going to be an exciting final week of the regular season - we'll see six teams competing for the remaining three playoff spots. It all comes down to this!

There is a Thursday Night NFL game every week from now until the end of the 3FL playoffs. Remember to set your players in those games (and remember to vote on the 3FL games) before kickoff (8:10pm).

Week 12 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 92 points

Player MVPs:

Minnesota Vikings Defense - 31 points
Chad Johnson (WR/Cin) - 23 points
Frank Gore (RB/SF) - 21 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 21 points
Carson Palmer (QB/Cin) - 21 points

Week 13 Information

Thursday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Dallas Cowboys
Sunday Night: Cincinnati Bengals @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday Night: New England Patriots @ Baltimore Ravens

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 13:

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
These two are just jockeying for playoff seeding, so there's not too much drama here. Except for the McNabb injury report. And Tony Romo on Thursday night.

Lightning (-1) vs. Predacons
The Preds are not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs yet. They do, however, need a plethora of things to occur in order to claim the 8th spot. First, they must win this week against the top scoring (and most likely record-breaking) Lightning. And the Chair and the Brewers must both lose. And they must score 26 points more than the losing haw or 24 points more than the losing 'Bums. Then they must part the Red Sea and get gasoline prices under $2.50. I doubt they'll even get past the first one.

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
The Vipers have pretty much sured up a playoff spot. A win against Coach Hoss and they're definitely in. But you just never know in the 3FL - a loss this week in conjunction with big wins from three other contenders could drop the bottom out of Peyton and the snakes. I wouldn't count on it, though.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Can you believe it? The surging Chair still has a chance at the postseason. They first need a win against the low-scoring Renegades, and then they need a Brewers loss (or to score 35 more points than the winning Brewers) or a GotW tie. And you thought the addition of Brian St. Pierre was Coach Skrabby waving a white flag...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
While the Saskatchewan Roughriders just won the CFL, our Rough Riders are the only team to already be officially eliminated from playoff contention. But they can force the Brew Crew to join them on the outside with an upset win this week. With a win and a maintained point total, though, Coach Brew has the fast track to another playoff run. Can either of these two stay up to watch the important Sunday Night Football game?

And the game of the week...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
These teams have the same record and only a safety separates their total points scored over the first 12 weeks. But none of that matters now. The team that wins is in. The team that loses needs the Chair and the Brewers (and maybe the Predacons) all to lose. And a tie might just bring down both teams. What a great matchup for a playoff berth. Fantasy football doesn't get any better than this!

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S7: Week 12 Preview

The Lightning struck again, claiming the top score of the week and the second 3FL playoff spot. But the remaining postseason picture is as blurry as ever with only two weeks to go.

Make sure you set your players for the Thanksgiving Day games before those games start. Happy eating and football watching!

Week 11 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 92 points

Player MVPs:

Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 37 points
Terrell Owens (WR/Dal) - 32 points
Randy Moss (WR/NE) - 30 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 40/66 - 60.61%
League Voting: 38/66 - 57.58%
Yahoo! Projections: 40/66 - 60.61%

Vote early! The polls close at 12:25pm on Thanksgiving Day.

Week 12 Information

Thanksgiving Early: Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions
Thanksgiving Late: New York Jets @ Dallas Cowboys
Thanksgiving Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Atlanta Falcons
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ New England Patriots
Monday Night: Miami Dolphins @ Pittsburgh Steelers

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 12:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Tony Romo will most likely be eating Turducken this Thanksgiving, and so will the 'Morons. Metaphorically speaking. Can someone please tell me who Will Heller is and what he is doing on a fantasy football team?

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The haw look to have more favorable matchups than the Renegades this week, but that's what we said last week, too. Of course, Coach Val doesn't have Randy Moss on her squad. But she does have the newly acquired Matt Schaub. Will he start this week? And will that make a difference?

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Rough Riders
After three tough losses in a row, the Vipers could use a game against the last place Rough Riders. Unless the Steelers dynamic duo performs an amazing comeback on MNF. It's happened before...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
It's going to be a battle, but the Marauders have the slightest of edges in this one thanks to Mr. Moss. They also have a capable replacement for the ailing Mr. Holmes, while the Chair must make a decision on Mr. Creighton ASAP.

Lightning (-1) vs. Dumbbums
The Bolts continued their dominance last week, earning the top weekly score for the fourth time this year, and Tom Brady shows no signs of slowing down. But both teams will have fun watching the 'Bums QB against the Lightning DEF on Thanksgiving.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Predacons
This just in - 'FitzCorp does not have a single Philadelphia Eagle in the starting lineup this week. Meanwhile, the Preds are still trying to lock down a RB situation that has seen multiple injuries, weekly fill-ins, a pending suspension and now a retirement from the NFL. It's no wonder they are going to miss the playoffs for the first time in team history.

Good luck this week. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday, November 15, 2007

3FL Notes: S7: Week 11 Preview

The Marauders/Lightning battle ended in a draw, allowing Coach Hoss to be the first to claim a 3FL playoff spot. Who will join him in the post season this week? And who will be left out?

Remember that the trade deadline is quickly approaching. All trades must be completed by next Saturday, November 24th.

Week 10 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Rough Riders - 86 points

Player MVPs:

Donovan McNabb (QB/Phi) - 28 points
Brian Westbrook (RB/Phi) - 27 points
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 26 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 36/60 - 60%
League Voting: 35/60 - 58.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 37/60 - 61.67%

Week 11 Information

Sunday Night: New England Patriots @ Buffalo Bills
Monday Night: Tennessee Titans @ Denver Broncos
Bye weeks are finished for the season

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 11:

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds are the hottest team in the 3FL right now as they bring a two game winning streak into this weekend. They need another win against the 'Morons to have even a reasonable shot at making the playoffs for the seventh straight year. They should probably not get their hopes up.

Misfits (-1) vs. Dumbbums
Coach Jules and the DFO have eight of nine players starting their games at 1pm on Sunday. The 'Bums have five of their players starting after 4pm. It will be wait and see for both teams until late on Monday night.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Renegades
The team from up north is predicted to win the rest of their regular season games and finish the year with the highest point total in the history of the league. We'll see about all that. But I agree with a win against the Renegades, anyway.

ray ray haw (-1) vs. Marauders
This week it's the haw's turn to have a roster full of favorable matchups, and against the number one team in the league, too. But let's not forget that Coach Hoss was a big underdog last week as well. And Randy Moss is back.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
One of these teams will pick up a fourth win, while the other will end up on the fast track to mathmatical elimination from the playoffs. It could go either way, but my vote is for effort.

And the game of the week...

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
These two teams are just about even going into this matchup, and their records (and season point total) could be the same after it is over. Unless LenDale White and/or Steve Smith is/are hurt. Then I'll have to switch my pick...

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S7: Week 10 Preview

The Marauders stormed to the top spot in the league last week, but they have another battle on the horizon. Can you believe we're already two-thirds of the way through the regular season?

Week 9 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 109 points

Player MVPs:

Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit) - 34 points
Adrian Peterson (RB/Min) - 30 points
Jamal Lewis (RB/Cle) - 28 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 33/54 - 61.11%
League Voting: 32/54 - 59.26%
Yahoo! Projections: 33/54 - 61.11%

The Dumbbums and ray ray haw were both 6/6 in week 9.

Week 10 Information

Sunday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ San Diego Chargers
Monday Night: San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks
Bye Week: New England, NY Jets, Tampa Bay, Houston

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 10:

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
These two are tied in the standings and only 14 points apart in total scoring this year. But the Chair have won their last two while the Brewers have lost their last three. The trend continues.

Rough Riders (-1) vs. ray ray haw
What? The Riders are favored this week? I can't believe it either, but the schedule shines upon Coach Bev and her management style this week. No byes and some easy matchups. And just when the haw were getting on track...

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Predacons
This one could go either way, but you have to believe that the Predacons will somehow ruin their chances to get back into contention with a bad coaching decision or two. Matt Hasselbeck will probably need to score 20 on MNF to make it respectable.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
These teams look about even since the NE Defense is on a bye. The slight edge goes to Coach Drew, who is actually starting a kicker this week. Plus, the Vipers are starting the backup RB to the 'Morons starting RB.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Renegades
Don't look now, but these two teams are tied in the standings. Coach Val has six players in games that start after 8pm on Sunday, so you can expect that a comeback will be necessary for a win. But if FitzCorp turns in a performance like last week that might not be necessary.

And the game of the week...

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Here it is. For the second straight week, the two teams at the top of the standings clash for league supremacy. And the Bolts have to do it without Mr. Brady. The Vikings/Packers game will tell the story, but don't be surprised if both coaches have to wait until MNF to be sure of victory.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, November 01, 2007

3FL Notes: S7: Week 9 Preview

Things evened out a bit last week, and only four games now separate first place from last place. Tom Brady and the Lightning continued their dominance and turned in the highest point total for the third time in four weeks. Are they peaking too early or starting a serious SuperBowl run? We'll find out soon enough.

Week 8 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 91 points

Player MVPs:

Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 34 points
San Diego Chargers Defense - 27 points
Joseph Addai (RB/Ind) - 23 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 29/48 - 60.42%
League Voting: 27/48 - 56.25%
Yahoo! Projections: 28/48 - 58.33%

Week 9 Information

Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles
Monday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Bye Week: Chicago, St. Louis, Miami, NY Giants

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 9:

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Although the Preds have scored 40 more points than the Renegades this year, they have acquired four less wins in the process. That should change this week if Coach Sinkerbeam's RB situation gets figured out. But then again, there is a reason one team is 2-6 and the other is 6-2.

Lightning (-1) vs. Rough Riders
It's tough to pick the Riders to win this game - even after the huge upset they pulled last week and the fact that they will only be missing one player due to not paying attention. But the Lightning are looking to keep up their momentum and Tom Brady is showing no signs of slowing down. Even if the score is 45-0.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Baby William has just arrived home from his six week stay in the NICU, so the Brewers will have their hands full this weekend (and for the next 18 years or so). We're all very happy for the entire Brew crew and wish them the best. But unless Rob wanders over to the computer at 4am, his lineup isn't going to change itself. Nor is baby William for that matter.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Honestly - are the Vipers players each scheduled for two bye weeks this year? It seems like they are constantly without three or four players for every game. Even Peyton Manning is having trouble carrying this team on his shoulders.

Baltimorons (-1) vs. Dumbbums
Last year's SuperBowl rematch finds both teams hovering around the .500 mark. But Tony Romo is back for the 'Morons this week and the outcome should be the same as it was last December. Maybe Coach Drew will even hold aloft the trophy after the Sunday night game for old times' sake.

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Our top two teams clash in what should turn out to be a great matchup. This one could honestly go either way, and both coaches will be watching the night games and rooting for their favorite NFL teams to see who ends up the victor. There will be much yelling at the television by all.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, October 25, 2007

3FL Notes: S7: Week 8 Preview

Four teams scored more than 80 points last week, and Tom Brady outscored one of the 3FL teams all by himself. Six weeks remain to sort out the playoff picture.

Week 7 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Renegades - 89 points

Player MVPs:

Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 43 points (sets a new points/week record)
Kenny Watson (RB/Cin) - 25 points
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit) - 24 points
New York Giants Defense - 24 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 25/42 - 59.52%
League Voting: 22/42 - 52.38%
Yahoo! Projections: 23/42 - 54.76%

The Predacons were 6 for 6 in week 7 voting.

Week 8 Information

Sunday Night: No game - MLB World Series
Monday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Denver Broncos
Bye Week: Atlanta, Dallas, KC, Arizona, Seattle, Baltimore

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 8:

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
If things stay the same, this will be Coach Skrabby's easiest game of the year. If the 'Morons hit the waiver wire and fill up their roster, though, I may have to switch my prediction. Everyone has been sitting on the Chair this season.

Lightning (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Bolts just took over as the top scoring team in the league and have averaged almost 100 points per game over the last two weeks. That trend looks to continue. But the Brewers will have a chance to pull an upset if Tom Brady throws all five of his TD passes to Benjamin Watson.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
None of the Vipers are on a bye this week, so they'll need a different excuse for losing. How about not playing Brandon Jacobs? That's a good one. Or sitting out both of the Cleveland WRs against St. Louis?

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Rough Riders
The Riders will again make the list of most losses in a row if they can't get a win against 'FitzCorp this week. The first-place-in-the-league, LaDanian-Tomlinson-back-from-a-bye 'FitzCorp. Should I start updating the records page now?

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds picked up their second win last week, but the Marauders will probably have a full lineup of starters to oppose them. Unless Matt Schaub gets hurt during the first quarter of his game again. Even then, Coach Hoss' team can still score in the seventies.

And the game of the week...

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Last week's high- and low-scoring teams meet in the GoTW. Coach Val looks sneaky good again, but this one will depend on which 'Bums team shows up. And if either coach checks their lineup before game time.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S7: Week 7 Preview

We're halfway through the regular season, and things just keep getting more interesting. Last week was highlighted by another exciting Monday night, two one-point games and another team total above the century mark.

What does this week have in store?

Week 6 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 110 points

Player MVPs:

Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 35 points
LaDanian Tomlinson (RB/SD) - 33 points
Adrian Peterson (RB/Min) - 29 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 20/36 - 55.56%
League Voting: 19/36 - 52.78%
Yahoo! Projections: 19/36 - 52.78%

The Comm-nosticator, Yahoo!, and the Lightning were all 6 for 6 in week 6.

Week 7 Information

Sunday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Denver Broncos
Monday Night: Indianapolis Colts @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Bye Week: Cleveland, Green Bay, San Diego, Carolina

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 7:

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Peyton Manning is back in uniform for the Vipers this week, but the rest of the team is on a bye. Plus, the Lightning have been the top scoring team in the league for the past two weeks.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
The Brew Crew will likely wait until around noon on Sunday to update their lineup, so no one really knows who will be starting for them this week. Whoever ends up in the game will likely watch the 'Fitz roll on.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Marauders
This will be a very exciting and high scoring affair. Of course, last time I said that the two teams combined for the lowest game total of the week. But this one will be different. Seriously.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Bulger is back! So are Wayne and Clark and Bruce! If the Renegades check their linup before the games start, they have a good shot at winning this week. But you just never know...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
This one looks to be a pretty even matchup, with the edge going to the haw since the Chair has been a bit unlucky this year. And there is a chance that none of the Comfy RBs will actually play.

And the game of the week...

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
Even with a plethora of game-time decisions, the Preds have an opportunity to double their win total against the last place Riders. But then again, maybe not. Watching Ben, Hines and the Steelers win big on Sunday night may be enough to officially sink their playoff hopes for the first time in team history.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S7: Week 6 Preview

If you didn't stay up to watch the last 25 seconds of the Monday night game, shame on you until next September. It was an unbelievable ending and the source of two 3FL comebacks (and two near misses). Four of our six games ended up with five or less points separating the winner and loser.

Last week was also the fourth lowest scoring week in the history of the league.

Week 5 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Lightning - 62 points

Player MVPs:

Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 23 points
Kris Brown (K/Hou) - 19 points
New England Patriots Defense - 19 points
San Diego Chargers Defense - 19 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 14/30 - 46.67%
League Voting: 14/30 - 46.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 13/30 - 43.33%

Week 6 Information

Sunday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Seattle Seahawks
Monday Night: New York Giants @ Atlanta Falcons
Bye Week: Bills, Broncos, Lions, Colts, Steelers, 49ers

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 6:

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Brew Crew only has to fill their roster with active players to climb to .500 this week, as the Preds still look like an infirmary ward. Todd Heap may be back this week, though. Woo hoo.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Spiked Vipers
The 'Fitz lucked out a last second win thanks to the Cowboys last week, and now they face the Vipers with Peyton Manning on a bye. Lucky again. But they are also the highest scoring team in the league...

Lightning (-1) vs. The Comfy Chair
This just in: Drew Brees is getting benched this week even though he is not hurt and not on a bye. Can Derek Anderson lead the Chair over Tom Brady and the surging Lightning? Probably not with their RB situation as it is.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
Both of these teams will be led by second string QBs. Or no QB at all. We'll see what happens later in the week, but the 'Bums have the advantage of some favorable matchups and some paying attention.

Marauders (-1) vs. Renegades
The Renegades have 5 starters on a bye and their only available QB is out with broken ribs. And the Marauders can't possibly underperform again like they did last week.

And the game of the week...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Coach Drew enters this game after an amazing Monday night comeback, while Coach haw clawed his way to within two points of one. This week is all about the matchups, though, and hoping that the haw isn't counting on Monday night for too much of anything.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S7: Week 5 Preview

I've updated the 3FL Records page to reflect the top five of each stat category in the history of the league (instead of comparing the best from each season). The league didn't start out keeping records this way, but now everything is conformed for a truer picture of our highlights and lowlights. I've also added the longest win/loss streaks to the list.

As for this season, the upsets just keep on coming. And so do the injuries. Last week saw The Comfy Chair earn their first win and Misfits, Inc. take their first loss, so it looks like the streaks are safe for now.

Week 4 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 71 points

Player MVPs:

Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 29 points
Peyton Manning (QB/Ind) - 27 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 20 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 10/24 - 41.67%
League Voting: 11/24 - 45.83%
Yahoo! Projections: 10/24 - 41.67%

Week 5 Information

Sunday Night: Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
Monday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Buffalo Bills
Bye Week: Cincinnati, Minnesota, Oakland, Philadelphia

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 5:

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
Let me get this straight - the Renegades won last week even though 4 of their starters combined for 1 fantasy point. Can that happen again? We'll have to see if either twin has a full lineup of players who are actually in uniform on Sunday.

Dumbbums (-1) vs. Yuengling Brewers
Actually, this one might go the other way depending on the Brew Crew's bye week replacements. Or lack thereof. But the 'Bums WRs could put them on the other side of a Monday night comeback this week.

Spiked Vipers (-1) vs. Predacons
Here is the Preds' week 5 injury report - 1 WR, 2 RBs, & 1 TE are all game-time decisions. Add that to 3 players on a bye and you've got a run at the futility record. Peyton Manning may be the only player the Vipers need in their lineup.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
The Corp has their dynamic duo on a bye this week, so who knows what type of numbers they'll post. But the Chair is starting Drew Brees again. He has zero fantasy points this season. I'm not kidding. That's what 7 INTs and 2 fumbles will do to you...

Lightning (-1) vs. ray ray haw
Why do I keep picking the team from NY to win? Well, they look good on paper. But you can throw the projected points out the window for this matchup. No one on either team seems to be paying attention to them.

And the game of the week...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
This will be a great battle, but it's looking more and more like the 'Morons will lose a few starters to injuries before the week is through. The way Tony Romo is playing, though, it might not matter. We'll have to wait until Monday night to crown the victor.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 27, 2007

3FL Notes: S7: Week 4 Preview

Only one unbeaten and one winless team remain. But story of the week was the significant toll that injuries took on the league.

Ouch and ouch.

Week 3 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Misfits, Inc. - 110 points

Player MVPs:

Ronnie Brown (RB/Mia) - 29 points
Kevin Curtis (WR/Phi) - 29 points
Donovan McNabb (QB/Phi) - 29 points
Tom Brady (QB/NE) - 28 points
Brian Westbrook (RB/Phi) - 28 points

Week 4 Information

Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants
Monday Night: New England Patriots @ Cincinnati Bengals
Bye Week: Jacksonville, New Orleans, Tennessee, Washington

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 4:

Marauders (-1) vs. Rough Riders
The Marauders have done the opposite of my prediction every week so far this season. Not this week. They actually have players to fill in their bye week holes.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Will Plaxico play? Will Peyton pick up the slack from having two Browns WRs start against the Ravens? All I know is that the Vipers will be within striking distance on Monday night.

Misfits (-1) vs. ray ray haw
The haw lost two RBs to injury last week - one for this week and one for the season. Meanwhile, the 'Fits topped the century mark and are looking as potent as ever. The newlyweds have a good shot at reaching triple digits again this week.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
I'm not projecting a tie, but this game could definitely end up in one. The Bolts have scored one more point than the Balts in 2007, but have earned one less win (and one more loss). A Tom Brady comeback would even things up nicely.

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Renegades
Marc Bulger has broken ribs, Isaac Bruce is old, and Clinton Portis is on a bye; the Renegades seem to be slowing down after a great start to the season. Plus, the Brewers have some new help in the Coaches' box.

And the game of the week...

Predacons (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
With a combined 1-5 record, these two will be in for a great game. Great meaning close, not high scoring or exciting. At least Drew Brees can't score -6 points during his bye week.

Good luck this week.

New Assistant Coach Named

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Office of the Commissioner would like to officially announce the newest addition to the coaching staff of the Yuengling Brewers.

William Albertus was born last last Thursday to Coach and Mrs. Brew. Apparently he needed a little extra time before our trade deadline to get a few deals in the works.

Congratulations!

3FL Notes: S7: Week 3 Preview

Isn't this interesting - after 2 weeks of play last year, The Comfy Chair and the Predacons were unbeaten and leading the league. At the same point this season they are both winless and occupying the bottom two spots. Meanwhile, last year's last place finishers are undefeated and sitting at #1 and #2.

Week 2 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 96 points

Player MVPs:
Carson Palmer (QB/Cin) - 40 points
Steve Smith (WR/Car) - 25 points
Chad Johnson (WR/Cin) - 22 points
Minnesota Vikings Defense - 22 points

Week 3 Information

Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys @ Chicago Bears
Monday Night: Tennessee Titans @ New Orleans Saints
Bye Week: None until week 4

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 3:

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Peyton Manning is ready to personally hand the Renegades their first loss. Unless he has his usual tough time against the Texans.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Marauders
Which Marauders team will show up this week? The one that does the opposite of my prediction, most likely.

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Predacons
The Preds players will be finished at around 7:30pm on Sunday. The haw have more than half of their players starting games after that time. And then the Preds will really be finished. And by finished, I mean 0-3.

Dumbbums (-1/2) vs. The Comfy Chair
Maybe the Chair will be on the other side of a Monday Night comeback this week. But not if the Bums high-flying WR corps has anything to say about it.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
The 'Morons have scored 50% more points than the Riders this season, but both teams are 1-1. Not for long. I just want to know why are they both heads instead of helmets?

And the game of the week...

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Lightning
The Lightning have a chance to keep this one close against the Misfits and their favorable RB matchups. Me picking against them can't hurt, either. You're welcome, Coach Thadtotti.

Good luck this week.

Thursday, September 13, 2007

3FL Notes: S7: Week 2 Preview

I told you the first week was the toughest to predict. Upsets were the rule of week 1, with more than half of the league's underdogs earning their first win. And it's only going to get more exciting from here...

Week 1 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Dumbbums - 91 points

Player MVPs:
Tony Romo (QB/Dal) - 34 points
Minnesota Vikings Defense - 28 points
Ben Roethlisberger (QB/Pit) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 2/6 - 33.33%
League Voting: 2/6 - 33.33%
Yahoo! Projections: 2/6 - 33.33%

You have until Sunday @ 12:55pm to vote this week.

Week 2 Information

Sunday Night: San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots
Monday Night: Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles
Bye Week: None until week 4

The Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 2:

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Well, this one will be close. Especially if the haw's #1 pick scores more than -2 points. Either way, they'll both have a good reason to watch football on Monday night.

The Comfy Chair (-1/2) vs. Renegades
Last year, Coach Skrabby started the season with 11 straight wins. This year, he starts the season in last place with only 27 points. But his matchups look good against the surprising Renegades.

Yuengling Brewers (-1/2) vs. Rough Riders
This one really depends on the Steelers. The Defense will play well, but Big Ben will not throw 4 TDs every week. Not that most of the league would mind...

Predacons (-1/2) vs. Lightning
After a disappointing first week, at least one of these teams will end up 1-1 following this game. The slight edge goes to the Preds, since the Lightning have a track record of bad luck and a high scoring bench.

Misfits, Inc. (-1/2) vs. Baltimorons
Could this be a SuperBowl preview? Maybe - both of these teams appear stacked going into the second week of the season. But Tony Romo can't score that many points again, right?

And the game of the week...

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Spiked Vipers
Is it too early to jump on the Marauders' bandwagon? A lot of points will be scored in this game, but the matchups seem to favor Coach Hoss. Unless the Vipers' waiver wire pickup tips the scales.

Good luck this week.

3FL Notes: S7: Week 1 Preview

Can the Baltimorons defend the title? Will The Comfy Chair lose a game before week 12? Are the Predacons finally going to miss the playoffs? Only the 3FL season will have the answers...

It all starts on Thursday night!
Remember to have your starting lineups set 5 minutes before the games start this week. Any players in the Saints vs. Colts game will be locked in whichever lineup position you have them at 8:25pm EDT on Thursday.

Voting is back!
You can once again vote on who YOU think will win each 3FL game. All votes need to be in before the Thursday night game, so vote soon. It won’t take you long. I'll keep a tally again this year and we can see how the predictions turn out.

Week 1 Information

Thursday Night: New Orleans Saints @ Indianapolis Colts
Sunday Night: New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night Early: Baltimore Ravens @ Cincinnati Bengals
Monday Night Late: Arizona Cardinals @ San Francisco 49ers
Bye Week: None until week 4

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 1:
The first week is always the toughest to predict, but here goes...

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Yuengling Brewers
First, allow me to proudly announce to the league that the Brewers organization is expecting a brand new microbrew this season. Rob's wife is pregnant and due right around the 3FL trade deadline. If you look in the sidebar to the right you'll see a new link to giblet's blog, which is all about their new addition. Unfortunately, this won't help his team against the defending champs this week.

Misfits, Inc. (-1) vs. Predacons
Although this matchup will be closer than the Misfits are anticipating, the #1 pick in the draft will show everyone why he was chosen first. The Preds are holding out a few starters for a Monday night comeback, though. One point victory, anyone?

The Comfy Chair (-1) vs. Marauders
I took a little bit of heat for the draft grade I gave to the Marauders. Don't get me wrong, I do think that they can be a force to be reconed with. Just not in week one.

Spiked Vipers (-2) vs. Rough Riders
The Vipers selected Peyton Manning with their first draft pick. The Riders selected Ben Roethlisberger. That's about all you need to know for this one.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
Willie Parker gets to play against the Browns this week. That's good news for the Lightning and bad news for last year's runner up. Plus, Jon Kitna will be throwing INTs to Coach Thadtotti's Defense.

And the game of the week...

ray ray haw (-1/2) vs. Renegades
These teams look to be evenly matched, but I'll give the nod to the haw and the Chicago Defense. Stay tuned for Thursday night - it could make or break either team.

Good Luck in Week 1 and for the rest of Season 7!

Go vote...

3FL Notes: Draft Analysis

We had another great draft turnout and even more fun on the message boards this year. Here is an analysis of the results (in draft order):

1. Misfits, Inc.: Surprising no one, the newlyweds selected LaDanian Tomlinson with the first overall pick. What is surprising is the quality of the rest of their team. As long as the backups stay firmly on the bench. Grade: A

2. Renegades: Coach Val picked a decent team with no outside consultation (or so she claims). But neither of her starting RBs played a single down this preseason because of injuries. That could actually be good or bad. Grade B+

3. Spiked Vipers: Bringing the experience of a recent live draft for another league, the Vipers ended up with a solid team. There are some question marks in the backfield, but those could easily turn into exclamation points - especially with Peyton Manning running the offense. Grade: A-

4. ray ray haw: The haw excelled once again at the live draft format. Three-quarters of his RBs are sharing the backfield for their NFL team, though, so he'll need some luck when choosing who to start each week. Grade: A

5. Marauders: This team is looking very un-Hosslike to start the season. But you never know. Once LJ gets back into playing shape things could get much better. Grade: B+

6. Baltimorons: The defending champion has put together another strong team, bringing back the QB and top WR from last year's championship squad. It did, however, take every alotted second of time on the draft clock for every pick. Grade: A

7. Dumbbums: Coach Coaldog has selected an interesting mix of players this season. TO and Plaxico will put up some great numbers, but they are bound to cause a headache or two at some point. Grade: A-

8. Lightning: Some may have been a little confused by the Lightning's strategy as their picks were coming off the board. But it looks like they fit together well as a team. The spreadsheet calculations just might have worked! Grade: A-

9. The Comfy Chair: Coach Skrabby has assembled a contender - there's no doubt about it. But Brian St. Pierre's feelings were hurt in the process. Was it worth it? Grade: A

10. Yuengling Brewers: With COPS not running on TV during the draft, it seemed that the Brew Crew was less distracted this year. They actually put together a formitable team - all thanks to the programming folks at FOX. Grade: A-

11. Predacons: Coach Sinkerbeam didn't pick a QB until the 8th round of the draft, and it shows. But one of those four RBs has to step up, right? Grade: A-

12. Rough Riders: For picking Ben Roethlisberger in the first round, the Riders team is actually better than you think. Well, maybe. At least there's a reason to watch the Steelers. Grade: B

It should be noted that everyone seems happy with the team they have chosen. Only one player was picked up when waivers were cleared yesterday morning.

The Comm-nosticator makes his first predictions early next week. Stay tuned.

Draft Tonight!

Don't forget - our live online draft starts tonight at 8:30pm EDT.

You can run a test to make sure that your computer/browser are compatible with Yahoo!'s Java draft applet. Just go to our league homepage and click "test your system" at any point today before the draft.

Make sure that you arrive and sign in a little early - the draft will start right on time.

If you are unable to be online tonight, make sure you set up your pre-rankings prior to 7:45pm. The draft will be just like the old autopick style for you. In fact, even if you will be in virtual attendance it might be a good idea to set your pre-rankings anyway. You know, just in case there is a thunderstorm or something happens to your internet connection right when your turn comes up.

Good luck!

All In

All 12 teams were signed up and ready to go with three weeks left before the draft. Now it's time to start researching players and watching preseason games - although the latter will not really be of any help on draft day.

New for this year is the ability to change the attributes of your Yahoo! ID. Just go to your team page and click on your Yahoo! name (right after "Manager:"). From there you can change your nickname and the image associated with it. They are used to identify you, on both your fantasy sports profile page and whenever you make any transaction or post any message on the Yahoo! 3FL site.

If you choose to change your image to a logo, I'll include it (instead of your team's helmet) on your Records page and in the weekly standings. If you have any questions or need help just let me know.

There is only one name change this year - the Misfits have become Misfits, Inc. to reflect the new co-ownership of the team. Julie remains CEO while Tim has been promoted from External Consultant to Director of Football Operations.

Tim has been waiting for years to be allowed into the league, and thanks to the recent wedding it can be made official. It is the Family Fantasy Football League, you know.

Welcome to the family. And to the 3FL.

Monday, July 23, 2007

Welcome to Season 7!

NFL training camps are open and the 3FL invitations have been sent. It's time to start thinking about football.

The 3FL blog is active again, too. You'll notice that last season's posts are available in archive form under "3FLinks" on the right side of this page.

As a reminder, here is the order for our upcoming draft:

Early Purchase

The ad was simple.

"Already have Fantasy Football on your mind?" it said.

Yes. Yes I do.

So I went to check out Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2007. There are a few new features, among them the ability to co-manage a team and the opportunity to have a custom domain name. And you can keep that name forever if you sign up year after year. I checked "blahblahblah/3fl" and it was taken. But "blahblahblah/the3fl" was not.

So I took it.

We get to keep it forever.

I know that it's an early purchase, but I figured it was worth it. As long as everyone is still interested in playing this year...

2. Renegades
3. Spiked Vipers
4. ray ray haw
5. Marauders

12. Rough Riders

We will tentatively hold the live online draft at 8:30pm on Tuesday, August 28, 2007.

The Misfits are on the clock!
