3FL Notes: S23: Week 17 (SuperBowl) Preview

There was not a whole lot of drama last week in any of the games as we marched toward the SuperBowl. No MNF comebacks were needed and the average margin of victory in our two championship bracket games was 32 points. But I don't expect the same thing this week.

There are games on Thursday night, Saturday night and Sunday night this week, so we'll know our league champion before the ball drops to usher in 2024. Make sure your team is ready!

Week 16 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: the HAW - 115 points

Player MVPs:
George Pickens (WR/Pit/M) - 31 points
Breece Hall (RB/NYJ/tH) - 30 points
Jordan Love (QB/GB/PEP) - 23 points
Puka Nacua (WR/LAR/B) - 23 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

Yahoo! Projections: 6/8 - 75%

Week 16 Information
Thursday Night: New York Jets @ Cleveland Browns
Saturday Night: Detroit Lions @ Dallas Cowboys
Sunday Night: Green Bay Packers @ Minnesota Vikings

It's SuperBowl week in the 3FL!

For 7th Place:
#3 Predacons vs. #5 Renegades
Having Amari Cooper's 40 points on the bench last week added insult to injury for the Preds, but they were already in the consolation bracket. And perhaps the decision made sense before the game started? Either way they'll battle Coach Val to not finish last in the playoffs. It could honestly go either way.

For 5th Place:
#1 Yuengling Brewers vs. #2 the HAW
Hmm. This was supposed to be the week 17 matchup to see who would take home the championship. Instead it's to see who ends up fifth. What a shame that it is probably our best game of the week. Look for a barnburner that starts tonight and lights up the scoreboard.

For 3rd Place:
#7 Spiked Vipers vs. #8 Phys. Ed. Phenoms
After each suffered a disappointing (but not nail-biting) loss in the semis, our bottom two seeds play each other for the bronze digital trophy. It's not the result either was hoping for, but it's a definite jump up from being the last two teams to clinch just a couple weeks ago. PEP's Kicker has been ruled our for tonight. Perhaps SpiVi can loan them one since he kept two Kickers on his playoff roster?

3FL SuperBowl XXIII
#4 Marauders vs. #6 Baltimorons
This is quite an intriguing game. The Marauders come into the championship having scored the most points in this year's playoffs and they posted the biggest blowout in each of the past two weeks. The Baltimorons pulled off an exciting comeback for a single digit win and then eased through the semifinals by playing the lowest scoring team of the week. But we all know that anything can happen in any given week. As of this writing, the 'Morons are the favorites by more than a TD.

These two played each other back week five and the Baltimorons earned a victory to secure the tiebreaker here. Both of these coaches have multiple SuperBowl wins, with Coach Hoss earning two and Coach Drew having his name on the trophy a record-tying four times.

Will SuperBowl scoring records be broken again? Can Coach Drew earn one for the thumb? Maybe it will end up with a SNF FLEX comeback to win it all?? It all comes down to week 17!

Good luck this week!

Happy New Year and thanks to everyone for another great season!!

3FL Notes: S23: Week 16 (Semifinals) Preview

A very dramatic week gave us two Monday night nailbiters and saw our top three seeds lose in the quarterfinals. Anything can happen in the 3FL playoffs!

All individual team pages (see links on the sidebar) and the 3FL Records have been updated and show statistics through the end of the 2023 regular season. This year's additions to the records page are in bold. Through 1,830 regular season games we have scored a combined 252,849 points,.

Don't forget, the four teams still in the championship bracket will have only one player add available this week. There are NINE scheduled game times this week, including matchups on Thursday, Saturday, Christmas Eve and three games on Christmas Day.

Week 15 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Marauders - 122 points

Player MVPs:
Christian McCaffrey (RB/SF/M) - 36 points
James Cook (RB/Buf/PEP) - 33 points
Miami Dolphins Defense (B) - 22 points

Playoff Predictions Tally

Yahoo! Projections: 3/4 - 75%

Week 16 Information

Saturday Late: Cincinnati Bengals @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Christmas Early: Las Vegas Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs
Christmas Late: New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles
Christmas Night: Baltimore Ravens @ San Francisco 49ers

Semifinal Games
(Winners play in 3FL SuperBowl XXIII, losers play for 3rd Place)

#4 Marauders vs. #8 Phys. Ed. Phenoms
The Marauders put on a show last week, outscoring everyone and posting 25 more points than the closest other team. Can they (and the Dolphins) keep it up as the now highest remaining seed? Possibly, but they'll have to get through the Phenoms who just knocked off our #1 seed and ended a W9 streak. Nobody is scheduled to play tonight, but Christmas afternoon and evening are going to be exciting!

#6 Baltimorons vs. #7 Spiked Vipers
For the second time in the past three weeks the 'Morons used an incredible MNF comeback to keep their season alive. This time it was Jalen Hurts who brought them back from a 17 point deficit to win by one. The matchup here is even across the lineups. Could we see another tie? Or can SpiVi put up enough points to counter the tush push? There is a player in every single one of the NFL time slots, so strap in for this one.

Consolation Games
(Winners play for 5th Place, losers play for 7th)

#1 Yuengling Brewers vs. #5 Renegades
The curse is back. After ending the regular season with the best record and most points scored, the Brew Crew was poised for a championship repeat. But instead they got only two points each from Dak, Kelce and their Defense. They are projected to win this one, but the Renegades could have some surprises in store starting tonight.

#2 the HAW vs. #3 Predacons
Wouldn't it be more exciting if the second and third seeded teams were playing for a SuperBowl berth? Unfortunately the CAPS had the lowest score of the quarterfinals and were the only team to never reach triple digits all season. But perhaps they can surpass 100 here? The Preds were snakebit again, seeing a -1 from their FLEX player and losing by a mere point. That makes zero championships in 23 seasons. In case anyone is counting.

Merry Christmas and good luck this week! The SuperBowl awaits!!

3FL Notes: S23: Week 15 (Quarterfinals) Preview

One point. That's how close the Lightning came to holding on to a playoff spot. Near the end of his MNF game, Saquon Barkley lost a fumble for just the third time in 1,400+ career touches. That -2 put the Bolts down by a single point and elevated the Phenoms (who held off the 'Morons in prime time) into the postseason. Now it's time to start the journey to the SuperBowl!

There are six games outside the Sunday afternoon time slots this week, including three on Saturday. Make sure to have your players in position before their games start!

Remember that ROSTERS WILL LOCK AT 1pm THIS SUNDAY, December 17th. Under our playoff rules you will be allowed to make 1 add/drop per week once the postseason starts, but only teams still in the winners bracket will be eligible to make a move (with waivers set in reverse order of seeding).

Three wins in a row wins it all!!

Week 14 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Team: Yuengling Brewers - 109 points

Player MVPs:
Lamar Jackson (QB/Bal/P) - 31 points
Deebo Samuel (WR/SF/YB) - 26 points
Matthew Stafford (QB/LAR/SV) - 23 points

Regular Season Final Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 55/84 - 65.48%
Yahoo! Projections: 53/84 - 63.10%

Week 15 Information

Thursday Night: Los Angeles Chargers @ Las Vegas Raiders
Saturday Early: Minnesota Vikings @ Cincinnati Bengals
Saturday Late: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Indianapolis Colts
Saturday Night: Denver Broncos @ Detroit Lions
Sunday Night: Baltimore Ravens @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Monday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Seattle Seahawks

The Comm-nosticator is finished for the year, but game previews are not...

All four East Division teams qualified for the playoffs this year. And, interestingly enough, all four of our quarterfinal matchups are divisional games. So this will be the third time this year that each of these teams will play one another.

#1 Yuengling Brewers vs. #8 Phys. Ed. Phenoms
The Brew Crew finished the regular season as the top seed and highest scoring team, and they ended up with the fourth highest season team points total of all time – for the second straight year (all of those things). They're also on a nine game winning streak. The Phenoms snuck into the playoffs last week, but we all know you can never rule out the curse.

#2 the HAW vs. #7 Spiked Vipers
This might be our best matchup of the quarterfinals. The CAPS have a better record but SpiVi has scored more points. They're 1-1 against each other in the regular season and they're evenly matched here. The Steelers-Colts game and Tyreek Hill's health will be big for the Vipers, but perhaps some MNF magic will push Coach HAW to the semis?

#3 Predacons vs. #6 Baltimorons
Just two weeks ago, these two teams played to our only tie of the year. That could happen again. The 'Morons have an edge in the projections, but will they need another Monday night comeback to pull things even? The Preds have the tiebreaker because of their week three head-to-head victory. You know, in case we need that information.

#4 Marauders vs. #5 Renegades
Another great matchup highlights our week 15 schedule. These two finished with even records and divisional records, but the Marauders scored more total points so they took the West Division crown. The Renegades did make more than 4x the number of add/drops though. Getting down to the game, it really could go either way. A healthy Raheem Mostert might tip the advantage to Coach Hoss.

Good luck in the playoffs! The trophy awaits!!

3FL Notes: S23: Week 14 Preview

We had our first tie in almost two years and four more teams secured a trip to the playoffs. For our last week of the regular season there are five teams with a shot at the remaining two postseason spots (and none of them play each other).

It should be a another great finale with two scheduled Monday night games to make things even more exciting!

Week 13 Recap

Top Scoring 3FL Teams: Renegades/Yuengling Brewers - 110 points

Player MVPs:
DK Metcalf (WR/Sea/PEP) - 31 points
Deebo Samuel (WR/SF/YB) - 31 points
Tyreek Hill (WR/Mia/SV) - 27 points
Dak Prescott (QB/Dal/YB) - 27 points

Predictions Tally

The Comm-nosticator: 52/78- 66.67%
Yahoo! Projections: 50/78 - 64.10%

Week 14 Information

Thursday Night: New England Patriots @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday Night: Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
Monday Night: Tennessee Titans @ Miami Dolphins
Also Monday Night: Green Bay Packers @ New York Giants
Bye Week: Cardinals, Commanders

And now the Comm-nosticator’s predictions for week 14:

Yuengling Brewers (-1) vs. Predacons
Our second SuperBowl XXII rematch of the season appropriately has our current #1 and #2 team going head-to-head. Is this a preview of a championship game repeat? It's looking like another easy win for our defending champs, which would put the Brew Crew on the records page with a W9 heading into the playoffs. And if they score 84 points or more they'll end up in the top five season point totals of all time.

Baltimorons (-1/2) vs. Phys. Ed. Phenoms
An amazing MNF comeback saw the 'Morons jump into a tie last week on the game winning kick as time expired, and they clinched a postseason spot with that result. PEP can still make it in, but a win and/or a bunch of points here would be a big help. The projections are not in their favor, but no matter what things won't be settled until Monday night.

Marauders (-1/2) vs. Dumbbums
The 'Bums may be 10th in the league at the moment but they still have a shot at playing next week. They're in the same spot as the Phenoms (just with seven fewer points). So really, a win would be extremely helpful. The Marauders have other ideas, though, and they still have a shot at the West Division crown. Players in every NFL time slot will extend the fun all week.

Renegades (-1/2) vs. Misfits, Inc.
So FitzCorp isn't going to get to the playoffs based on points (134 is a lot to make up in one game). But if they win here and the Vipers, Phenoms and Dumbbums lose, they're in. It's not impossible. The toughest part for Coach Tim-A might be rooting for the Dallas Defense against his E-A-G-L-E-S.

And the games of the week...

Spiked Vipers (-1/2) vs. Stiletto Stompers
Despite starting two players on a bye, the Stompers halted their losing streak at seven last week. Perhaps they can continue that momentum and ruin SpiVi's chance at a playoff berth? The Vipers are in the 8th spot now but are less than 25 points ahead of each of the next two teams in the standings (and with identical records). There are many scenarios for them, but the best ones start with a win here.

Lightning (-1/2) vs. the HAW
Win and they're in. That's all the Bolts have to do from the 7th spot. Of course that's easier typed than done when the game is against the team that has already clinched the division and is headed to their 14th postseason in a row. And because of season point totals, a loss against the CAPS might allow the Lightning to be leapfrogged by two (or three) teams and pushed out of the playoffs completely. This is going to be a good one!

Good luck this week!
